  1. brickster, i can't tell you how pleased i am that your finding time to post on EB again... and that i might be seeing some WW MOCs, topics, polls, and well whatever you bring !!!i know we've seen the shady motel, church, hanging tree, and cemetary from you in your Ghost Town sub-theme. is this Dark Chasm you speak of an MOC too ??? >:-) 8-
  2. hey brickster... ya, without you phes and norro, not much happens around these parts. well, with me busy designing the Town & Train and Theater forum skins that is ;-) great to hear your back X-D *y* and its funny you should bring up the ghost rider... as i have plans to release my second MOC (first in the ghost town series) next month. however, now if you beat me to it, it might seem like im just copying you |-/ - BrickMiner
  3. well, so much for "only listing once". he's got it at his BL store now !!! :-D :-D :-D http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=waltz...&itemID=6746328 oh, and at the reduced price of 210 USD !!! oh, and sk8... i can imagine enchanted island with red plants. interesting visual you painted for me *pirate* *wacko* - BrickMiner
  4. TOO much like WW, there is no such thing ;-) sk8 says bring back the pirates, i say bring em both back X-D - BrickMiner
  5. so my question is, if so many of us think this theme is great, then why do none of us have any ??? for me, its cause 1998 was the end of my second "wave" of collecting LEGO. so i missed the release of these sets as they were new. and to catch up seems expensive !!! those figs on BL get really high !!! red samuri young red samuri old blue samuri old green ninja princess white ninja princess shogun warlord i've never seen a theme with so many 20 dollar figs !!! army building would be ridiculous !!! oh wait SW ;-)
  6. perfect way to put it !!! that's the kind of wordage i was looking for when i was making my fantasy vs. histrical accuaracy spiel !!!
  7. sounds kinda boring to me. im a fantasy buff though, and like the classic hero/villain clich
  8. 8-
  9. i found this thread the other day... http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...wtopic=2414&st= it tells a slightly different story of who likes what 8-
  10. i think the ninja theme must be highly underrated... as it was a supurbly designed theme. overall set design, colors, minifigs, new moldes, just prefect. i think whoever the design team was on the western series must have been put on ninja after the wild west was cancelled !!! :-D unfortunately, like others, i have no ninja sets :-( - BrickMiner
  11. well, i don't know if i agree with all this SNOT talk... but i would suggest making the structures taller. usually churches have higher ceilings than a home dwelling. and i think it would give the buildings a much more impressive stature !!! - BrickMiner
  12. i think the top of his head should be pointy... that would give the illusion that we are looking at the top of his helmet and not his balaclava. so, are you a smiley maker ??? i think its be great to have a collection of smiley specifically for the H&A Forum !!! i never got around to learning how to do it when i was designing the skin. here is the thing though, the collection would have to show a wide range of emotions. having two angry knights, and three enraged vikings would be very useful beyond the first :-D good job so far *y* - BrickMiner
  13. this is actually the first discussion i have seen about the topic, so im glad i found it. it good to hear others prespectives on the situation. *y* my view point is of blueandwhile, so i'll just quote him for my opinion. he put it prefectly... actually, we have seen another color dropped and replaced just this year. so that makes four now.Glow-In-The-Dark because of this, id say ther is a good chance other colors might change in the near future 8-
  14. well, the seller has a 0 feedback rating 8-
  15. thanks for the mention phes *y* im always happy to inspire you to do your best !!! ;-) if you can remember (way back when) your imperial ground forces MOC is what got me posting on EB... so i guess we are returning the favors to each other :-D you sure are giving me a lot of :-X for that "nearly" :-D :-P you might be interested to know that our friend here, mr phes, doesn't use the adobe products !!! i dont' see how he does without :-P Phenomenal?! That
  16. :-D i wouldn't worry about that. anyway, on to the "set" <== :-P you seem to be the king of mixing themes, grayner !!! i was seeing pirates and JT first, in "key of the castle dock". now, i see a prefect blend of CC and JT !!! i think your hitting it on the mark now, as the title of your adventurers sub-theme suggests. i think that is really the strong point of this MOC... it has the look of CC with the figs and surprises of the adventurers. interesting :-) the overall frame of this MOC is great, and outweighs the traps and features (typical trap doors and levers). however, the multip-use trap on the reverse side of the castle is quite unique *y* i love this MOC as a stand-alone... but i think your sub-theme as a whole lacks consistancy with minifigs. especially within the standard good-guy / bad-guy / natural-villian template of the official LEGO adventurers. and the croc seems out of place, as it doesn't appear anywhere else in the sub-theme. i do love your work here grayner, how many more can we expect ??? - BM
  17. when its obviously not a LEGO piece... then its bad. if they are done well (and you have to double check your knowledge of LEGO) then customs are great. yes, a minifig should look like a minifig... even if its a custom ;-) this guy's decals are great, especially davy jones and jack (much better than redbeans 8-
  18. wow, this is phenomenal !!! great job. you should win some kind of award 8-
  19. im acutally really surprised they asked you this... if i was TLG, i would be way more concerned about NOT-modding. i mean, you were interviewing for a techinic set designer, not a piece sculpter. i could understand the sculpter... having plastic manipulation exprience would be preferred.but if you were designing sets, i would think they would want you to find creative ways of using existing bricks, not mod out of despiration :-X -------------------------------------------------- as to the topic, i would NEVER mod... and have never considered it. i do love making stickers, but i don't see that in the same light as defacing bricks. however, i do wish i could make all original elements as prefectly as redbean !!! alas, graphic design and illustration is my strong point, not sculpting :-( - BM
  20. interesting topic, that i don't think has been discussed yet... as for the "clicky" bricks and the "smooth" brick... i mix thoughs. however, here is one example of "new" and "old" bricks that i DO keep separated... the holes in the support bars... i don't like them. although it has no playability reason. its completely nostalgic for me... i remember the bricks and plates without the holes... so that is what i am used to seeing. i actually sell the ones with holes in the supports bars on BL :-D ya, im weird *wacko* - Brick Miner
  21. i dont' think this is true... LEGO always makes sure there is some conflict in each and every set, at least in the SYSTEM releases of the 90's.most of the pirate sets have at least one "good guy" and one "bad guy." you see the same in wild west sets and all of the adventurer sets. LEGO knows conflict is what pre-teen kids want, and that is what they get. now, it is true that LEGO refuses to handel historical war... no confederate soldiers in the wild west, and no miliarty themes. but that has nothing to do with that fantasy space war invloving stormtroopers. - BM
  22. like i said, i think they are appealing to two different age groups here...the nature of the minifig scale (or SYSTEM line) is greared toward a pre-teen age group (the blocks and pieces are too complex for any one younger)... that same group is a large part of the computer gaming demographic. - BM
  23. actually, TLG does do stuff like this. in regards to historical toys targeted for this age group. they are doing the duplo pirates line. what i am seeing is that toy companies are focusing their historic lines on a younger age group than what the minifig scale line of toys is suited for. they do plenty of test groups on these toys... so the older kids (minifig scale customers) must not like historically based lines... where as younger kids like it, or should i say, their parents do :-D what i am assuming (from this perception) is that the older kids are at a point where their parents let them make their own decisions... so they decide for fantasy, catapults, and action toy-like lines. where as the younger kids are at a point where their parents still decide which toys they get... and thus, we see history. - Brick Miner
  24. :-D i was going to post the exact same thing as i was reading this thread !!! a "dark ages" as we AFOL refer to it, is a personal thing. has much more to do with how much enjoyment we get out of the hobby... if we are no longer getting enjoyment, then we lose interest.it also has nothing to do with how much we spend on LEGOs in a week, month or even a year... as our economic status actually has nothing to do with how much we LOVE LEGOs !!! actually, sometimes with a limited budget we love our hobby more, as it gives us things like "wish lists" and "holy grail" MISB sets to aquire *y* X-D ;-) -------------------------------------------------- as to the topic, i personally am not in a dark age, and am producing some of my most appriciated MOCs in my life... very satisfied. and the newest set i own is from 1999 !!! so it has nothing to do with TLG's "dark age." even if TLG was out of business i would still enjoy the pieces i have. - Brick Miner
