this sounds like a discussion all its own... http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...?showtopic=7644-------------------------------------------------- hmmmm... interesting ghoulrealm. i've always believed the folklore that lobsters are only red after you cook 'em.thanks for the enlightenment !!! - BrickMiner

this thread was inspired by a conversation that me, 007, and ghoulrealm were having... http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...?showtopic=7562 but i thought the topic deserved its own thread,... and i would like to discuss... Which AquaRaiders monster/creature is in the most need of moding and/or has the most moding potential ??? -------------------------------------------------- i chose the giant squid from 7775... it has a nice design, and feature (victom), but looks too robotic. im looking for something a little more natural, and with more naturally flowing colors. the lobster comes in second, as i think the red and black don't blend seamlessly enough. oddly enough, the lobster is also my favorite !!! third for me is the angler fish. it has three really quick replacements... 1) the teeth need to be non-glow-in-the-dark. 2) the bacteria ball needs to be glow-in-the-dark. 3) the appendage holding the bacteria lamp needs to match the skin color of the fish. other than that its nearly perfect !!! open discussion encouraged about one of my new favorite themes !!! - BrickMiner

ya, i thought about that. there is usually a little green in them too (at least the live ones i see in the grocery store do).however, when has LEGO been realistic... we have identified that lobsters are usually black, brown, and green... no red. the company rightfully goes for sterotypes and fantasy. so if they are going for the easily identifiable red (which they did), why only make the thing half red ??? all that aside, i guess my biggest point is that the black and red don't mix in perfect visual harmony. - BrickMiner

Has anyone ever seen this before ???

:-D no problem... its kinda funny that BL lists them in "gear" *wacko* -------------------------------------------------- hmmm... interesting. more evidence that these displays were used in europe.im still wondering about the states. - BrickMiner -
The Which Lego Minifg Are You Test
Brick Miner replied to Mister Phes's topic in General LEGO Discussion
when i took the test, i was considering this... i figured there were two ways to do the test.1) decide what character you would want to be (and answer as if you were that character, kinda like roleplaying) or 2) answer questions from your own point of view (no role playing). i first tried to get a WW bad guy character... i got the vampire |-/ then i figured the true question of the survey was to figure out which minifig would be you (or best represent you), and not which minifig would you like to be.... so i answered from my own point of view... and got redbeard. strange, as he is one of my favorite themes !!! - BrickMiner -
yes, your shark is good and your opee is great !!! seems you are on a kick with underwater creatures lately... as i saw your horseshoe crab also (that one is really nice). i am hoping to seem some mods on the squid from 7775... its really nice with the victom in the stomach, but its almost too robotic looking... id like to see someone mod it so the squid look more natural. keep us posted on lobster updates (as this is my favorite AR animal/monster) - BrickMiner

Brick Miner replied to Brick Miner's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
thanks for the info guys... i wonder, did these ever exists in the states in the 90's ??? as i said, i don't recall seeing them until the past couple years... however, this WW display is definitely US, as it says "wild west", and not "western" in its logo. its possible these items are only from hobby shops. -------------------------------------------------- looks like this one got a bid of 75 USD, but the reserve wasn't met. i'd pay a couple hundred for a mint one, but not 4000 !!!- BrickMiner -
sorry, i was tring to be funny.making a joke about you using the pirate skin everywhere ;-) - BrickMiner

help me find a good Adventurers action shot
Brick Miner replied to gylman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
your going to have a hard time finding an image over the internet... because most images are going to be set to a screen resolution of 72 dpi, not really suitable for printing (recomended 225 or higher). that flag is nice, and i would suggest scanning that !!! oh, brickster uses a nice image in this H&A pinned thread: http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...?showtopic=2937 it seems suitable for your cake... i wonder where it came from, and if you could get the hi-rez version ??? - BrickMiner -
i saw this on ebay earlier this week, but didn't mention it here as i was considering buying it... ebay auction listing but now that i've decided against it (condition is too poor), i have some questions... has anyone ever seen this before ??? i thought LEGO only recently started making store displays, and the seller lists a date of 1993 ??? how strange. where would these displays have appeared. i don't ever remember seeing one when i was a kid... and i shopped at TRU, target, kmart, KBtoys, etc... bricklink can't confirm this displays existance either. bricklink retail displays. what value do these type of things usually realize ??? any insight into the mystery of retail store displays is appriciated X-D - BrickMiner

maybe in the world of pirates... outside of that world (in "community") it only means "X" :-D :-P - BrickMiner
-
wow, a family member sees a bunch of useless used toys... i look at and see dollars adding up *sweet* open a bricklink store and sell the stuff you don't want... keep the red coats for yourself ;-) great story, gives me hope that happens to me some year. -------------------------------------------------- BTW, mr. tiber, what does the "X" smiley mean ??? :-P - BrickMiner

i've been considering doing some moding to my lobster aswell !!! i personally think there is too much black in LEGOs version. though, your mod looks too bionicle for me :'-( i know it would help if i distanced myself from the idea that those are bionicle parts, but i just can do it in this situation, especially the head. i like the fact that the aquaraiders monsters are brick built... and not action figures (like bionicle). personally, i would like to see that present in any modification. i do admit, the claws look better, its just not my thing... cause like i said, too reminicance of LEGO action figures. are you planning on moding any other AR monsters ??? id like to see them !!! - BrickMiner

are you suggesting pirate stuff is far more valuable than WW stuff ?!?!?lets not turn this into a battle between two of the best themes ever produced... :-P :-D i saw a lot of old brown logs destroyed in the movie :-| that really hurt my eyes >:-( :-D - BrickMiner

1) i love the sound when the mayors hair pops out of this hat... really really funny. 2) the saloon scene is hilarious... "put it in a dirty glass", "go fish", and "when you find yourself in a hole, quit diggin" are some classic lines :-D :-D :-D 3) oh, the jail break scene makes the movie worth watching, in and of itself. definitely my favorite sequence. 4) i love the play on communism. 5) and the blowing up of fort LEGOredo was a visually stunning scene... i only hope not too much old-brown was destroyed ;-) -------------------------------------------------- this movie shines when comical, but the drama parts are a little harder to grasp (like the opening scene, it was my least favorite). overall its pretty good... i love how the official LEGO sets are worked into the story, and are seamlessly mixed with the customized elements. very similar to my own MOCing :-D one story element i had a hard time believing was the "draw" proposition the general made to flatfoot. seemed too "set up". i also thought the characters wrists turned too often. i didn't get what the director was trying to interpret there. i do like how each official LEGO western character is given a personality... dewy cheatum's name is proper, but his character is a little weak. personally, he is my favorite western fig... he just doesn't live up to my perception in this film :-( naming each western LEGO fig is something i've been wanting to do for awhile. i once wanted to produce a common name that everyone in the AFOL community could agree on and use (view the thread here)... maybe using the names in this brickfilm would be appropriate :-D if this film doesn't make you want to breakout your WW LEGOS than nothing will. definitely worth watching for any LEGO fan (western or not ;-) ) - BrickMiner

MOC INSTRUCTIONS like you've never seen before !!!
Brick Miner replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
thanks for resurrecting my thread EA :-D no really, im glad that people are still appreciating the hard work that went into them. so now that you are in LEGO heaven, will you be constructing a saloon of your own :-P -------------------------------------------------- thanks ellerb... your suggestions have been absorbed ;-)... and nice instructions of your own, by the way *y* part of my endeavors in the LEGO hobby, is to create MOCs which mirror official LEGO releases, so the same will go for the instructions. that said, i probably wont apply the suggestion about adding which parts are used for each step. even though i agree, this would help the ease of reading them. i suppose LEGO never did this so that the build was more challenging ??? the black elements are hard to distinguish... thought, i like the flat (kind of drawn) look that mine have... it looks much more like the drawn look of LEGO 90's instructions. the megaPOV rendering style looks more like LEGO instructions of today, not really the look im going for. so, i'll probably just adjust the contrast in photoshop properly on my next batch. thanks for bring that to my attention. -------------------------------------------------- NOTE: im currently redesigning the GUNSLINGERS SALOON, incorporating suggestions that were noted by members in the official Gunsligners Saloon #6758 thread. thanks to norro and others for their perceptions about my model *y* hopefully, updated instructions will follow. - BrickMiner -
Greetings X-D Steel City sounds like an interesting place (i've always been a fan of industrial giants) the chicago, cleveland and the detroit areas of the US have always facinated me... so what grand city bears the nick-name ??? - BrickMiner
