1. jipay a "giga" :-D sounds fitting... i never met the guy in person, but i bet he's a lady's man ;-) - BrickMiner
2. when i went i was hoping for some rare finds... like some batman/spongebob minifigs at the PaB. its really just bricks and plates... nothing you can't find at bricklink. the cost is calculated by the weight of your PaB bag, and the price seemed high. i went with my girlfriend, and the park was fun... but the PaB was nothing special, i spent under 10 USD on loose pieces. rather a disappointment |-/ - BrickMiner
3. ya, i remember seeing that one too (as i have been in the market for a lando or two, for a while now).PPP had about 12 landos for around 25 USD each about a month ago... now they only have 1 for 3000.00 USD 8-
4. likewise, i like that LEGO never called the calvary in the WW theme, Union. it places the theme more into a fictional world... like a highly over-romantasized version of US history.but i admit, im more of a fantasy than historical accuracy kind of guy - BrickMiner
5. agree completely *y* but why do you suspect LEGO will never release another WW legends ???it would be strange to see LEGO do a 10176 (king's castle) kind of thing. where they proclaim it is an enhanced "legend" version of an old set... when in fact it barely resembles its predecessor. its would be strange to see fort LEGOredo "improved" for 2008 or 2009 :-D <== i laugh cause its nearly prefect now ;-) - BrickMiner
6. these city sets are so awesome (love the garbage truch and sea port)... makes me wish i was a city fan (or at least had some city sets, that would justify my buying the sea port) !!! the cargo train (RC) and sea port are nice components that have recently turned the town/city theme around for me. i never thought i would say this about town/city, but this IS a great theme *wub* id like to see an impressive airport, then transportation in LEGOland will be complete... and we can move on to office towers ;-) (or at least some kind of impressive architecture.) - BrickMiner
7. wow this is really nice... love the skelleton army. those horses will make a nice addition to the GHOST TOWN wild west sub-theme ;-) - BrickMiner
8. not really a tutorial, but a similar thread exists here. it may be helpful, if you scroll down the page, the process i use is described. - BrickMiner
9. this is a really strange thread 8-
10. yes, i remember us discussing the future of the 9V system... and i swear i read an official statement from a LEGO rep saying it would surely continue along side of the RC system. 9V would continue on as "hobby trains". i hope this isn't what they had in mind :-X however, AquaRaiders has proven that LEGO will use the same name for different themes and products... maybe this factory extension IS "hobby trains" and so is the yet-to-be-released 9V line continuation. hmmmm - BrickMiner
11. hey grayner... i have always left a hefty response to your other MOCs in the JTitLotC sub-theme, so i should follow through here. it's just that this one doesn't do much for me. the other responses in this thread pretty much sum up my thoughts... 1) too many time periods (however, i have said this about the whole theme ;-) ) 2) color scheme, i agree with phes here... i would go ahead and make the castle taller to balance out the colors better. 3) the jeep is great, probably my favorite vehicle in the theme. overall, i love concept building, and LEGO SYSTEM-ish building styles. you have captured both successfully in your MOC line. i love the presentation, and character building you have done. though i was hoping for a little more with this last one !!! -------------------------------------------------- my only suggestion to you is to build how and what you like... this last comment gives me the impression that you are building to satisfy us 8-
12. hmmm... i kind of agree and i kind of don't.i think one of the things i like about the WW theme is the character building that is done with each figure. each seems to have a really strong personality (take the three bandits for example). however, with character building also comes conflict. in the WW theme we have definite "good-guy" and "bad-guy" groups. i think the indian line of 97 was an attempt to loose this conflict and character in the minifigs, and it was (IMO) a failure. i think "conflict" and "dark-and-gloomy" are two different things... think road-runner and wiley-coyote from looney tunes. very much a conflict driven entertainment, but is still kid appropriate... which in turn, taps into the adult hobby. afterall, i think the reason we like LEGO is that it lets us explore our childhood and innocent memories. - BrickMiner
13. just wanted to pass this information along to everyone here... as i am a close friend to the Nodell family. you can read about Martin's creation here... Green Lantern bio life successes here... Martin Nodell bio he was 91 and passed in his sleep. he worked on some notable work during his career, that in his death, i think should be recognized. i figured i should share this with my online community here, as my little part in addressing that. i'll be away the rest of the week (not that i have been here much the past couple weeks anyway) attending the funeral... - BrickMiner
14. i've been wanting to start a thread on this movie ever since i saw it the other week... the fountain i have to say, it is a masterpiece. any fan of arnofsky's work will love it. and any one not familiar with him will fall in love... if they have any love for mind bending stories, that is. it has a very similar feel to 2001: space oddessy, but its much more grounded. similar symbolism, but developes a much greater emotional attachement to the characters. strangely, the musical score doesn't involve itself in the story telling as much as arnofsky's other films. my only complaint is that the story is "revealed" to early in the movie... and about halfway through, you pretty much know what is going to happen through the second half. no real surprises. it is enjoyable watching the story playout though, the movie was very visual stimulating. im not sure if this is, or will be, released in europe... but if you get a chance to see it, definitely do so... one of my new favorites... any one care to discuss ??? - BrickMiner
15. wow this is a great review !!! i even got a review on my posting/typing skills :-D i think between the two of us phes, we could come up with a complete official-like LEGO set. you seem to have brought essential points to your critique/review, that i feel just one man can't possibly address by himself. this makes me wonder how many individuals are on a designing team (set or theme) for official LEGO releases ??? in any case, this review brings me to a realization that a lot of my decisions aren't for the official-LEGO look (that i've been striving for), but for personal preference after all !!!
16. definitely, i decided to take this opportunity to evaluate the change in my shopping since a half year ago ;-)maybe a topic like this should be pinned ??? it seems to be a pretty common discussion. - BrickMiner
17. here is a thread which explored a similar idea... http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...?showtopic=5186 like i said there, i run a BL store too... so i keep track of this stuff vary carfully. it looks like in june (date on last thread) i had spent 944.66 USD in the past 12 months. here it is december and im up to 1631.55 in the past 12 months !!! however, i just spent a lot of money (approimately 750 USD) on my first train system, all within the past 3 months... i have to say, those tracks are expensive, but im glad i found them on lego.com PaB for only 1.50 each !!! - BrickMiner
18. just to follow up here... i received the lego.com PaB order... and yes, the tracks were old dark gray. so im pretty much convinced LEGO uses this "stone" adjective to describe "new" gray from the "old". - BM
19. :-D i only got 15 right :-D i have to say the time ticker was not good for my blood pressure. in my defense, comprehension is not my strongest suit. for example, i had to read the first question several times, then check to see how much time was left in the question after each time i read it... i was getting "soldiers" confused with the more general "calvary figures"... i was sure the answer was 6. -------------------------------------------------- i was going to make a similar quiz once... i had several questions on new molds made specifically for (and introduced in) the wild west theme (cowboys and indian lines). like, "which of the following pieces was created for the 1996 line"" or "which of these piece was not created specifically for the 1997 line?" both lines had some tricky answers for these questions. - cowboys hats could throw some - the introduction of the snake mold could be tricky - the very common dynamic may be overlooked - etc... in contrast, easily identified items are large barrel, revolver, shotguns, tree stump, and kepi. some other questions in my quiz involved UK and US figure names. - BrickMiner
20. i think they look fine... you used them just as LEGO intended. that is a fun idea, especially if the entries were a little more abstract... i have always thought this piece looked funny cockpit 7x4x3. and as a kid, i always felt the shape of this piece was strange windscreen 4x4x4 1/3. but these entries are odd shaped pieces (kind of a better discussion) and quite a different story from unuseful, or unLEGOlike. for that category i would have to go with the dino with light up eyes - BrickMiner
21. really cool jacob... man you have a lot of pieces !!! so how long do you keep these MOCs together (i would never want to destroy that, if it were mine)... and do you wreck one MOC to build another ??? or do you have enough pieces to keep them all built at once ??? your creations would make one helluva display if they could all be placed together 8-
22. i have to agree with this... if somebody types a single word, and someone else reads that word, and understands what the author was referring to, then that single word has a meaning...in our community, when someone says "<insert that tiresome argument>" we know what he is referring to... it doesn't mean we have to agree with his description. <insert that tiresome argument> is just that... a description. example... what kind of brick is is ??? its a junorized brick. what kind of set is it ??? its an ugly set. what kind of MOC is it ??? its a beautiful MOC. just an opinion, like ugly or beautiful. but it does have meaning. -------------------------------------------------- as for the arch (possibly BUAP), i think its a decent piece, because it has an over-all LEGO look. and that is my main complaint with most of the new "<insert that tiresome argument>" (for lack of better word ;-) ) pieces... the airplane panels (already mentioned) and new rock panels don't blend well with the traditional brick-and-plate look. on a similar note, i don't know why everyone dislikes the BURPs or LURPs so much... i think they are great (they definitely blend with the brick-and-plate look). only when they are used in abundance like in 6766, do they become a problem. however, they are super abundant in 6761, and that set is very well designed *wacko* - BrickMiner
23. yes, i will follow up here, no problem... i came to this conclusion (that they are the ONLY old gray left) because there is an option to "show all available pieces of this color" on the PaB. when i placed the tracks into my basket, and clicked the "show all available pieces of this color" only tracks came up... straight, curved, etc... and had a description of "dark gray" for their color.while, lego.com has lots of bricks, plates, and slopes in what is called this "dark stone gray". i figured stone gray had to be BL's blurish gray. likewise, stone or not-stone must refer to old or new light gray. while, light, medium, and dark refers to the color of the new grays (and does not distinguish old from new grays, in regards to SW4J's original question). but that is just my intrepretation ;-) order should show up next week... - BrickMiner
24. so, now im faced with a life altering decision... when the system is finished, which forum does the discussion thread go, History or Trains 8-
