  1. I don't get full credit for the substitute thruster. I'm pretty sure I've seen it done before; think it was on one of Soren's mocs. My contribution is the cluster on the wingtip, with 4 directions instead of just 3.
  2. Thanks! Lately, my MOCS have been having a similar color scheme of black, yellow, and white, with bits of grays mixed in for small areas(generally mechanics) I guess we can think of it as a mix of Blacktron1 and 2 colors, which I think is kinda cool. Pieces also always seem to be plentiful in these colors as well (both in LDD and my parts bins) You're right though, those gray wedges are a little too much gray at one spot. I'll probably trade them with black ones from one of my ExoForce sets. Anyway, I just love these 3 main colors in combination, compare this one to my other Celestial Forager vehicle, here black is dominating making it seem more military, while in the Forager white is dominating, making it feel more civilian. Havent tried it yet but I'd assume that if I let yellow dominate it'll be more utiliarian....like for freighters and construction vehicles
  3. It's based loosely on the classic space ships. Most notably the attitude jets behind the cockpit; nice arent they? It's probably closest to 918 Space Transport, seating 1 pilot and having no cargo space. Looks more like fighter to me tho. Landing gear down. They're similar to the ones in the upcoming LDD Space theme, but I beefed up the rear ones to hold the weight. I'm actually starting to think the car windscreen canopy looks pretty good, but in theory, it and a few plates can be rearranged to replace with 2507 or 30372 windscreens. No controls in the cockpit yet either for similar reasoning. Brickshelf Sort of high price, but I might buy it anyway. Factory Link
  4. As far as classic space scooters go, there are others that looked more interesting; better bases for rebuild. But I think you can expand on this concept a bit to get something good. The basic shape is a delta wing, but there is a deal of odd flat space on the nose, perhaps you could add a large slope to that area on your version, LDD has a 2*4*1 slope in blue which would fit your color scheme. Another issue is, the windscreen in combination with those engine pieces makes it at first glance look like a microscale space fighter. Since the pilot is exposed anyway, I'd do away with that windscreen and instead develop the nose area (above suggestion) into a wedge/delta sloped shape. Possibly even sweeping back into some kind of tail structure. While the cool positioning rockets cluster on the original is no longer available... here is a close approximation for you:
  5. Have you tried jamming a putty knife into the seam between top/bottom and prying them apart? Hopefully its not glue holding it together...
  6. Since I havent bought much Town till after dark ages, I mainly own new 6+wide cars/trucks. And I do think they look good, its nice to mod them to seat 2 minifigs. But there are 1 or two old 4wide cars I have, and they are pretty fun looking. So rather than do away with them, my solution is to argue that the 4wide ones are GoKarts or GolfCarts/electric vehicles, which explains the size and seating only 1 minifig. This works great on all those little 4wide racecars when we place them next to the new 1/24scale Ferrari racers...
  7. Yep, I made another one, after looking at all the Classic small vehicles that we haven't had replacements for in recent themes. Tho it doesnt particularly look like any specific one... At least the trunk flips open, and there's an apple inside. How do you eat apples thru a space helmet? *wacko* must be a space-apple, designed for space-eating. I just wish the price could've been a little lower... What you think? worth it?
  8. I have never owned a micromotor (sure wish i had one tho) so I'm not qualified to give good advice on it... But i have had a larger technic motor die on me once. Upon opening it up i found that apparantly, one of the brushes had become misaligned and had been gradually wearing on the motor coils. Thus over time the conductivity thru them went down till finally the coil had been cut and it was dead. Irreperably so since those coils are made of fine wire that I cant replace or resolder. Now that really sucks, so lets hope thats not your problem too. Maybe you've got something simpler, like the coils are fine, but a brush has lost contact or something? I'd probably just open it up, and look for anything obviously out of place, bent brush, scrape on a coil, worn out contact, etc.
  9. From what little I can see here... the wheel on the technic beam, and talk of suspension. Perhaps this vehicle is going to be something like this 6950? The names are pretty similar too, just replace 'rocket' with 'cargo'. Also, question for Admiral Giddens, you mentioned that the control panels are stickers. I do notice what I *think* is an already existing printed control panel in some of the outpost pics tho... so while your custom panels are def stickers, will those older looking ones at least be still printed and available in LDD? Which brings up a thought, for those who don't like stickers, perhaps Under your custom stickers, could be provided an existing printed brick?(just not a pretty custom) Then for people who choose to never use stickers, things don't look quite so plain? Or would this kind of redundancy be too costly... just a suggestion...
  10. Ah thanks found those reviews.... a pull back motor with a trigger on it, interesting. I wonder if it still freewheels forwards once its 'out of spring' (like the traditional pull back motors) or if the trigger mechanism makes it lock up when it returns to the resting position? If the button stays down and triggers a full reel-in, or if it springs back when released so you can release the spring in increments. The traditional minifig scale forklift uses a simple spring on the forks, you push down, load the crate, then let the spring lift it. Depending on the exact function of this pull back motor.... you could potentially do the same, but have the forks stay down indefinetly, which might be fun to have.
  11. http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=4995&cn=348 So this new creator set looks rather nice, and seems to have some kinda motor for reeling in the winch on the helicoptor. Possibly quite a deal for 20$. But does anyone know more about that motor? Like, just how strong it is, what size battery it takes. Is the direction reversible? or does it only spin 1 way when you press that button (or is it a control switch?). -hows the cargo box lower once you reel it in? Based on the box pictures, its rather small and self contained, so IF it has a built-in reverse function, it might be really awesome for making a minifig scale forklift with powered forks (just do some pullys off that winch). So, anyone who have this set know the details? Thanks.
  12. That looks really awesome. I'd love to take a look at how its made. I probably dont have the real bricks to try it, but I'm a fairly good judge of strength. At first glance as mentioned, the front wheels cant take the weight with those halfpin connectors -single stud will just pop off. You could at first thought... double up that plate with hole in it, then use a fullpin. This requires some reorganization tho... Upload the LDD file and post a link? I wouldnt mind editing that and sending you a copy back to see the suggested changes...
  13. 6896 Well, since you asked... but I'm not so sure if its a great idea to have everyone's MOCs in this single thread... might get picture intensive. So Im putting the big ver Here. Maybe what you could do is create an index for Revamped classic space sets?
  14. With all the recent talk of bringing back Space in LDD Factory, I just had to jump in. Actually if you remember a long while back, I did this model before. But since then LDD has been upgraded and so I may as well redo it. Now taking advantage of the nicer brick selection: Check out those Spacey wheels! I dont know why I didn't think of this sooner, turns out those new hubs are great for space after all. Also, redid the color of certain parts, redid the loading ramp at the back(6896 had a magnetic arm). (yeah, the flatbed is non-studded, might be good/bad depending on how you do your space-crates) If you recall Celestial Forager, it has steering via a hinge in the middle of the body. This part is not available in LDD(or anywhere really), but here's my solution. Works great when I tried it out in real life; made of rel common parts too. It's also cheaper than my other attempt. 15. Nice one PaulC I really like the yellow, makes me think of a Meyers Manx beach buggy. Where?? did you get all those nice yellow panels? And I think you hit the nail right on the head with those axles, brings the wheels up closer to the body (problem mine had). Wouldn't be surprised if yours is Exactly the same as the real model.
  16. Well, I did what I could in LDD: Limited parts and whatnot. Seems the parts cost about 8$USD or so. Expensive little set. I thought the tyres look strangely tiny, so I experimentally made a second version using more standard big tyres. I don't think you'll want to be buying either from LDD tho, since the nice corner panel pieces are not available... as you can see i just used the little 1*1 slopes at the wheel wells instead. Plus the colors are fairly boring. Fun to build at least, Might have to resuse the mudguard technique in other Town sized cars...
  17. This is interesting, so LDD will be getting an upgrade to support stickers? I wonder how usable that will be? perhaps the sticker is just another color variation on certain bricks? or will you actully be able to apply them anyplace? I do see a few new slopes in those pics, it'd be nice to be a larger brick selection in LDD, can you comment on the availability of some nice Spacey windscreens? (so far the car ones arent that nice for space mocs).
  18. The wheels can be found in LDD Factory/pick a brick theyre in the Technic section. The tyres are a little more difficult... theyre in the larger tiny turbo sets
  19. Nice pics. I really like the Star Justice designs. Though they don't appear to be using *that* many new parts for LDD. Mainly I see a few slopes and some more colors. Well, if the torsos are printed then sure, it'd be good to have. And that new control panel will be great for my own LDD models... Just couldnt resist making a copy using the bricks currently available, its not that far off.. Picture http://shop.lego.com/Product/Factory/Produ...ee-ee4f75c28eae
  20. Astro Scout Its a small scout ship, with a large sensor array in the nose. Intended for prospecting asteroids before mining, tho it's rumored that the equiptment might also be able to inspect other ships... Actually, I wasn't old enough for classic space, but all the little 'scooter' type spacecrafts looked like fun. So I made this after seeing Astro Dasher. You can kinda see the reference, pilot seated on an engine, with a radar dish in front. The main improvement is while its still an 'open air' cockpit, the pilot is strapped down and marginally protected. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=303940
  21. http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=8492&cn=33&d=261 Just looking at the website pics, those look like some nice new tyres on the Mud Hopper racer. However, when I was at my local Lego Shop, the one on display had the old style wheels and tyres (6580 6579). The store employees told me their displays were assembled right out of box... so I held off on buying this set, since the new tyres are my main interest. Then again, someone on brickshelf has pics which are clearly new tyres. So, has anyone actually bought this and can comment on exactly what tyres/wheels it comes with? Might be a regional variation thing... Im in USA, how about you?
  22. Im not old enought to have seen Classic Space / Futuron firsthand. Mainly started with M-Tron BlackTron2 and I kinda considered them to be two rival syndicates, with SpacePolice2 being the govt end of it. Exploriens were the actual explorers, digging up alien aftifacts and whatnot, Spyrius beign some corporation aiming to steal their research. Ice Planet didnt really seem to fit with the other themes though, mainly because they seemed limited to a single planet. Missed Insectoids, UFO, and Robotforce stuff, so I can't really comment, but I figure they're all in the distant future compared to the previous themes, with all the non-human races. I guess the two Mars Mission themes are kinda standalone like Ice Planet was.
  23. 8294 Excavator Anyone know what those cylinders on the arm are? Not pneumatics since there are no hoses, so what are they and how do they work? I see an axle hooked up to the back of it, does rotation turn into a sliding motion via an internal worm gear or something? ...if thats what it is... it might be interesting to have ... but sounds like it'd have a lot of friction...
  24. New ponytail hairpiece?? CUUUUTE! I'll have to buy at least one of these sets now. Tho im not too wild about the ... cartoony feel to some of the designs... Maybe if they got rid of all the transneon colored pieces in favor of something more subdued it'd help the feel.
  25. I have no idea but thanks for posting it, its really pretty. I really like that little space scooter on the lower right, good shape just needs a modern windscreen. Maybe the out of scale ship is an automated cargo drone?
