  1. knight: jedi monsters: pick any alien, jarjar, jabbaDhutt, the sarloc thing wizards: Yoda, palapatine, jedi in general castles: yeah plenty of em ruins: yep, lots of those too SW is fantasy. Uhh, just have everyone yell 'I cast magic missile!' before firing a laser blaster. :-D
  2. Those comparisons are... pretty bad themselves tho :-X Go watch Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle or Revolutionary Girl Utena... Why I didn't buy any Airbender sets? ugly colors that I never use. And the main character minifig's manaical grin 8-
  3. Wasn't StarWars already fantasy enough? :-|
  4. What? 'treated badly'? was there a flamewar or something that I missed? Whats the story behind that? I personally don't see all that much point in keeping this contest open any longer. It looks like everyone pretty much loves the Homba. BTW: How do you deal with an obvious age/experience gap in a contest? As I'm sure happened here. This might also work into, whats the purpose/motivation/philosphy of a 'contest'? P.S. I know a few people (snefroe comes to mind) had an interest but not the time to participate... any of you still working on your projects anyway? I know I am... Always nice to see more space fighters...
  5. Its a nice concept, the modularity part so different people can add sections. The only flaw with this for me though; is that I only build in LDD as a way of organizing bricks for purchase. And something like a submarine is most definetly going to be too expensive for me to afford. Just look at some of the skyscrapers people make in LDD... very pretty but realistically will they ever be purchased and built?
  6. The landing module looks... OK Just add a little space flying scooter type vehicle without bringing the price over 15$ and it would be a winner.
  7. Its very nice. I'm kinda curious about how the sloping sides were attached and how the geometry works (if there is any) About the only change is a form vs functionality preference... I would have made a working steering mechanism underneath all of that; its big enough that there ought to be room for it.
  8. Even if being smooth is a choice. I think its a rather dumb mistake where on a set that needs 2 of them, one of each side of a symetrical vehicle; one is Smooth and the other is Rough. Leading to a missmatched apearance when you build it. I mean, if its Really their choice to make a new brick; WHY are they not treating it as a new Different brick when they pack the sets? They're just tossing the old and new ones together randomly. This is where quality fails.
  9. The Bridge module makes me wonder, just for fun if you were to sneak a passenger train car into a moonbase... how long would it take for someone to notice? :-D
  10. Your building instructions seem to have been corrupted, LDD 2.0 refuses to open them. I've had the same thing happen myself, with a model that was definetly made using 2.0 and should have worked fine. So I suspect its some kinda bug that TLG needs to fix. Going on what I can see from the pictures I'll say that it looks a bit too expensive for what it is. Being a modular corridor, most of the parts are relatively standard bricks, which means they can be purchased in either Tubs or at PaB for lower cost. Maybe its just a psychological effect, since the actual part count is high... If there were more special design features or unique parts I'd be more inclined to purchase something like this.
  11. Apparently the site his image is from doesn't allow remote linking. But if you Cut+Paste this address in a new window it seems to work: http://www.tfu.info/1985/Decepticon/Shrapnel/vehiclemode.jpg
  12. Thanks! 'cute' is no big surprise, because I was thinking of AlphaTeam DeepSea's TeeVee when I made this. :-D also partly inspired by the ROV minisub from Ocean Odyssey; in fact I made a yellow underwater variation (in real bricks) as an assistant for my AquaRaiders before this Spacey one.
  13. Because every Space Dock needs maintenance bots to do the dirty work. Factory Link Edit: Larger pics when moderated, thumbnails:
  14. Pretty isnt it? At 5.15$USD the price is comparable to official cars. The rear axle is on a technic pin to give a simple pendular suspension. (why cant the real ones have cool action features?) Factory Link ...for some wierd reason LDD won't let me import the instructions...must be a new bug...
  15. Neat, the dump truck has a bunk in the driver's cabin. Most realisitc interior for a vehicle I've seen yet; he just needs a pin-up poster on the wall. :-D I'm kinda wondering... how did these guys get ahold of the sets so early? I thought the release date is August?
  16. Yeah I hear you. Precision that varies with batch size, which in turn varies with the brick type. Might be true, but thats the kinda thing that only one of the guys working on those plastic factory floors would really be able to confirm. And its a looooong way between them and the ambassadors who won't give us 2way communication anyways. |-/ If TLG is subcontracting the plastic manufacture process to some other company, confirming this might be near impossible... Regarding the slopes... *maybe* theres new part variations that are intentionally smooth... but then you see a slope thats half smooth and half rough :-X and now I'm pretty sure the moulds are just worn out. Ugh, why don't they replace those broken moulds?
  17. That sounds about right. By 'region' they seem to refer to the general continent. For a special UCS factory you'd want somthing much smaller of course. Or did you mean the boxes list All those locations on the same box? Might just be a catch-all to save on having to make a different box for each place.
  18. I dunno just how knowlegable Lego Shop employees are... so this might not be accurate but I did ask one once about distribution and he said that there are separate brick manufacturing centers for different regions -ie europe and usa. Where the factories and even the plastic suppliers are local; no overseas shipping involved for the most part. It does make me think though, that brick quality might be variable based on location. So what if, TLG dedicated a single manufacuring center to using the older plastic with the more stringent standards; and used this area to produce all the UCS and AFOL oriented sets in limited quantities? I don't think It'll ever happen... but it does seem like a more realisitic dream than wishing that ALL the bricks could go back in time...
  19. Yeesh scary stuff Yeah, I noticed the variable texture of some slopes as well. I'm not sure if some of the molds are being worn smooth with age? Or if they created an intentional part variation and have been lax when sorting them out for packaging? Almost makes me think that maybe, rather than buy myself a new set off the shelf, I should save up my money and use my Time Machine instead.
  20. Wow, that Chocolate Factory set looks great. And it has an awesome price too. .11$ per brick while your Station has .14$ per brick. I wonder what's causing the big difference...
  21. Nice, looks like its using the Mega Core Giant Wheels; I couldn't tell size from all the distorted perspective on older pics. Also looks like the wheels are mounted on from both sides, not just the bionicle leg on the outer side of each. Which is great because I was expecting it to be flimsy; migth even have some kind of suspension. But obviously no steering mechanism still... |-/ Single technic beam drill arm looks really flimsy. They need to bulk that up; I want to see something like a pile driver on this thing! and from what I can see of the chassis... its all technic-ed up with plates on the outside; along similar lines to the Mobile Devastator EF set :-X They're trying to cut down on bricks it seems...
  22. http://www.knex.com/bricks/index.php :-D Looks like K'nex finally realized that their fancy 'tinkertoys' just weren't fun to play with. They're giving up and adding lego-style bricks. I'm amused by how in the past Lego did this the other direction, with Z'nap and found that same lesson...
  23. Pink Purple Basically all the Belville and Paradisa colors, at Un-inflated prices, and in a wider variety of bricks. Pink starfighter!
  24. This is actually a fairly tough call for me. The mocs are at a wide spread of experience levels... While the Homba(current vote leader) is the 'shinyiest' and is clearly the most technically accomplished in terms of building methods; I actually don't find the overall shape/concept to be my liking, makes me think of podracers or naboo starfighter, or something from wwII. The Cetus and Spacerake are actually a bit closer to what I like to see in fighter design, long dagger-like shapes. Between those, I thought the Cetus's triple wing/fins with the 'pontoons' on the lower ones reminded me very much of buckrogers/battlestar galactica era design. Which is ok... but I'm not that much into anymore. The Spacerake, has very simplistic contruction with seemingly missing hull armour in many locations; but the overall concept I do like. Reminds me of a few WingCommander4 era ships. -Noseguns, cockpit, sweeping wings, engine. In that order from front to back. So I voted Spacerake. -just fix the engine, its too high. and put a few plates on the wings, then the sides P.S. how longs this poll running? ??did you say 5 weeks?? that seems a little excessive. I'd say 1 week At Most.
