I was suspecting something like that Holodoc, especially since the 5stud snot bricks are also perfect for the sideview mirrors. Except, on the new truck if you look inside you can see a grille piece on one side, and the steering wheel on the other along the front of the compartment. And I figure the extra studs would get in the way of mounting those unless they did something wierd...

Classic Pippin, interesting hair, good lipstick. Now, if you don't mind, whats the peeron part number# on her head print? I'll be wanting to ebay that one now...

I'm looking at the blue freight truck and I'm having a really hard time figuring out how its made. The steering wheel at the front window really makes it hard to fit a snot brick in there to hold the front grille on. I'm really wondering how many studs hold it on, I'm thinking four at most, one in each corner and two at the middle. How close am I? Also, the grey tiles making up the ladder steps in front of each wheel, are those 6*1 tiles, or just 2*1s? -currently working on duplicating the truck in LDD Factory...

What would you pay extra for the box
xenologer replied to Bonaparte's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I wouldn't pay more for the box. But I would pay less without it. ...does that *kinda* make sense? -
Wait what?!? I thought the toyfair pics on MarsMission and other sets said August release date? Did I read that wrong or did it change or is this a country thing? Nice review btw. I wonder if thats a new windscreen on the bridge (the downsloping windows), they look useful... and now I'm feeling like making a few of those mini speedboats, or that office building, so simple but nice to have around...

Wanted: candidates for a new contest for a fighter
xenologer replied to snefroe's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
X-D eheheh.... Ohwell, my current project uses a fair amount of SNOT... hopefully I don't fall into the same generic pattern(any thoughts on exactly what makes them all the same btw? useful to know design cliche's). It all started with the cockpit.. The only way to get the angles I wanted was to SNOT two giant slopes... which meant it was fairly smooth...thus now the rest of it also needs to be relatively stud-hidden... ...at least I'm not hiding every last one, and I'm not planning on going greeb-crazy like a SW ucs. We'll see. -
Wanted: candidates for a new contest for a fighter
xenologer replied to snefroe's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Well, you already know I'm in. Hmmmh, so busy at work... and I need a new camera... but yeah sure, fun's fun. From the previous contest that I ran low on time in, I have a leftover that needs development... I'd say in 1 week I could have an entry that impresses. and in 2 weeks I could have one that has a chance of winning. But I wouldnt want anything that runs longer than that, for risk of stagnation or boredom.... P.S. related note on starship development: How do you guys go about doing it? I started with lots of sketches, then I made a cockpit, and engines, and now I have a temporary scaffolding of bricks holding the cockpit and engines and some simple wings in a shape that matches the drawing. so now i'm trying to fill in the holes inbetween the features with bricks, and replace the scaffolding with more a permanent skeleton as I go... Feeling kinda stuck in this stage now. -
Looks like new wheels. Look closely, they're thinner than the normal ones, I wonder what tyre will be fitting on them. Should be very useful...

Yup, new scales are interesting. especially when you compare say, the old 4-wide ferrari racecars with the new huge ones. I just imagine that the small versions are go-karts. Similarly, an old 4-wide car makes great golf kart when you put it next to the new 6-wide cars. About the only thing I'd really like changed is for TLG to design more of the new 6-wide cars to take advantage of the width and put two minifigs side by side, rather than just one driver.

Brick Testament: Education or Exploitation?
xenologer replied to Norrington's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I wouldn't call it 'sadistic' exactly, a more accurate term might be 'hilarious'. :-D Now, one problem here is that there is no 'broadcast' per-se anyplace on the internet. The Client computer issues a GET command to the server, who then responds. No data is transmitted unless the client first requests it. It is not the same as a man on a street corner shouting obscene things; you only view what you first request yourself. Do not enter websites that you don't like; its a simple choice. Good parents should take an active part in education and use internet filters to keep their kids out of websites they do not find appropriate. Thus these funny funny websites are no longer a problem for them and more entertainment for me. I'm not convinced he's trying to relate to children, much of the humour on the website was adult in nature or subtle and would not make a kid laugh the same way it did for me. :-D 'family huddle!' I'm fairly sure its an AFOL audience here. I'm not sure from this last part if you are for or against his work. It can be interpreted either way. But I'll stress that its important for parents to actually read/view things before blindly assuming anything about how appropriate it is for kids. Even Legos, even the Bible, and *gasp* even Harry Potter books. -
Related note. Just me or... The tan color coded version of this piece, seems to be made of a softer plastic than the old grey version; and it doesnt stay on as well, especially when rotating (like on a wheel). Not sure if thats a color coding issue, or a general cheaper plastic nowadays issue... maybe a bit of both. Lately whenever I buy an Old set off ebay I always set aside the technic pins; theyre like gold... reserve them for critical points on my builds...

I don't know *what* he was thinking when he said 5 weeks to vote... 5 weeks to build, sure, but to vote? Anyhow, given there isn't any such a thing as a prize; other than the viewing of some new MOCs... The better part of a contest like this is the motivation to build; so it's done that well enough... Anyone want to reboot it? I know I'm not the only one who started having an idea but didn't make the deadline... There's a half finished heavy fighter on my desk, wouldn't mind another push.

Brick Testament: Education or Exploitation?
xenologer replied to Norrington's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Consider this: Suppose someone made lego vignettes that made fun of say, Scientology or Mormons. Would you still be complaining? -
the Electric Bullet in blue or red I was envisioning a futuristic sports car. Lightweight and environmentally friendly. With electronic motors and probably some advanced fuel cell technology. The best part is, for such a cool little car, I've managed to beat the official Tiny Turbo's price *sweet* only 4.00$USD each. Factory Link, red paintjob Factory Link, blue paintjob

Whats the second picture? Maybe edit the first post to fix it later...?

Awh, thanks :-D you guys are too kind! I'm not sure I'd really want to make anything overly large in LDD, for two reasons: First of all from a purely creative standpoint... its very hard to imagine something in LDD vs in your hands, and this limits the size of what I can do comfortably. (tho occasionally in real life i'll wish i had an undo or clone button) Secondly, LDD is a bit expensive when it comes to bulk standard bricks(many would be needed for a large model); but its OK for special bricks and small models where perhaps a clever design might make the price easier to swallow. And cost matters since I tend to LDD when theres nothing great on the shelves to purchase... So rather than make a whole MoonBase in LDD, I'd probably have a tendancy to build only the accessories and support vehicles. To be assembled in real life when the mail arrives.

Brick Testament: Education or Exploitation?

I think you need to redo the Poll with a 3rd Option: -It's teaching the bible to a new generation in it's own way. -It's horrible. It's just some man illustrating the violent or "Inapropriate" parts of the bible. -It's hilarious. It's just some man illustrating the violent or "Inapropriate" parts of the bible. I vote option3. This thing is great entertainment and fun. clearly its not a serious attempt at option1 and clearly its not 'exploitation' because he not exactly making $$$ or 'converting' people (and it certainly isn't 'horrible', just look at those awesome builds :-D ). Hence, like I said, option3, its just entertainment. Both for him in the building process, and us in the laughing process. Time to lighten up? I may not be a christian but I don't mind when my own religion gets poked fun at, so I don't think any different standard ought to apply to this one. Its natural to focus on the bad or extreme parts when doing satire. -
Well, I havent bought much in the line of technic this year. But one of the Racers i bought had the new piece, and a (different set) Racer had the old one. So maybe its not totally replaced yet... Not really complaining tho, since they're functionally the same... Except the new one has the grooves cutout that lets you stick it between 4 studs and lock, while the old one doesnt. So ... thats a nice feature, right?

Scout MoonRover Just a simple rover for personal transport or exploration(probably surveying for space-mining sites). It has two clips on the back to hold minifig accessories. If you prefer your spacemen to have scubatanks, then just remove the seat back. Factory Link Light Transport Truck A flatbed spacetruck used for transporting light cargo. The best part is the working steering, twist the floodlight on top to control. vroom vroom :-D Do you Recognize this one? Its based on one of my favorite old sets; the construction and colors and whatnot have been redone to account for brick availability, but the basic concept is the same. The largest change being that since the big hinge used on the original is not in LDD (and kinda rare nowadays) I had to make a replacement with hole-plates and a technic pin; tried it in real life and it works just as well. Factory Link They're both fairly well priced for what they are (a little higher than a production set, but the details make up a little); so have a look, might be cool to have some standard vehicles for your moonbases. P.S. are there any numbers on how many people buy Other people's LDD creations? I buy plenty of my own, and think it'd be cool if others enjoyed them as well. But addmiteddly I've never purchased someone else's...

Neat set, not a SW fan but it looks like a heathly source of yellow and grey bricks. I'm really hating the stickers, especially the ones used to portray the guns on the nose. Stickers for emblems and such are... tolerable, but I really don't think they should be used to substitute actual 'hardware'.

I always did think, with the Robots being robots, and mecha basically being big robots. That it didn't make much sense for a Separate pilot. So having the pilot permanently attached is a good direction. Tho I'd probably want to take it farther and have the mech be self piloting (no cockpit at all); should open up possibilities for some interesting new mecha shapes...

Well... Ive just recieved a Sealed AlphaTeam Navigator ROV set today from ebay. Looks like there was a misprint on TeeVee's control panel brick. Not that its that vital, you just can't make out the corney 'mission deep sea' text. What you guys think, would Customer Service send a replacement for a Printed piece this old? I mean, even if they were willing, prints are Hard to get and this ones ancient...

Well, whichever way it turns out to be. I think the conflict based concept sucks; and it sounds like they're setting things up for 'good' humans vs 'evil' aliens. Where the alien side is going to be overly simplistic and undeveloped -as indicated by the terrible minifigs designed purely for being 'captured' in those orange pods. ExoForce at least had different colors for various robots(and arms that work), so you could imagine they have *some* sort of characterization... if only for their rank/military purpose...

...Not entirely sure what you're saying what I mean is, that given a rubber tyre that grips the road, if the wheel is rolling (not skidding) then there isn't any drag between the tyre and the road; the main drag would be from the axle against the car chassis EDIT: I just had a GREAT IDEA, sure to win the race :-D its a "balloon powered" car, right? meaning the stretchiness of the rubber balloon is used to store energy and released to power the car. Well, who says the energy transfer mechanism has to be air pressure? slice the balloon into strips of rubber, tie them to make a nice rubber band then make a pullback-motor racer *y* advantages: car can be Much lower profile compared to one with a fat air bag on his back; less drag plus looks much cooler well designed pull-back motor will translate the rubber's tension directly to your wheels; while the air pressure approach has losses due to air dispursal in uncontrolled directions, plus air doesnt have much momentum you can focus more energy into the rubber when it is rubber-band form compared to balloon form, (the balloon form has size limits and whatnot...) *n* disadvantages: you Must be good at Debating, and must set fourth a good argument regarding the potential energy storage of the balloon vs kinetic energy of the car motion; and explain how the concepts of using the balloon as a rubber band are analagous to using it as an air bladder X-D If you don't present the argument well, you might very well be disqualified If yo Do present it well, you might get bonus points for cleverness and demonstrating understanding of the physical concepts...

Interesting discussion. I forgot to mention it, but I probably would have added the tyres for those skinny wheels. I figure, once the wheels actually get rolling they're fairly frictionless anyway.
