  1. That's for the kind comments everyone! I was going for a very runny kind of mud, but you might be right--a little more texturing might not have been a bad idea. Thanks for the suggestion! Fair enough! I tried doing a door with plates like I usually do, but I wanted it to look finished on both sides. Although I have done a brick built door from both sides in the past, it was when the wall was two studs thick. I haven't figured out a good way to do it with a one stud wall. That's why I settled for the prefab door, but you're right--it doesn't quite fit. Glad you liked it. Well my dark brown supply was getting pretty low, but I still had a few reddish brown tiles left!
  2. Typically 800x600 is preferred. As others have stated, welcome! I'm also looking forward to what you've got!
  3. Choosing land in Avalonia is a little more formal than the other guilds. You get to outline your land from the map on the first page of the avalonian sign up thread. In the other guilds some members have chosen settlements and their rough placement on the guild maps, but those maps get updated less often. You can call your region and its ruler what you want, but even if you're king of your smaller kingdom, you're still considered to be ruled by your guild, as well as the king of historica.
  4. Just noticed the deadline is up for this quarter. Should we still include current builds here? Or should we wait for the new quarter post?
  5. Having the most fertile lands in all of Historica, Avalonia provides all the guilds, at least to some extent, with food. As such, farms like this one in Osgard are common all over Avalonia, and of course Oros. It's good to have another build up! This should be the last build I need for my settlement of Osgard to be categorized as a Port Town. I think I'll continue building in Osgard, to flesh it out a bit more, but even if I meet the requirements for a city, I don't want it to reach that classification, as I don't picture Osgard as being big enough to be a city. Anyway, I hope you enjoy. Comments and criticism is more than welcome!
  6. Wow, I really like this little ship! I'd love to do this myself now, except I don't think I'd be able to manage the sails or rigging. Great work!
  7. I just finished a farm build that fits avalonian style pretty well. It still needs to be photographed, but if you want to use it for a fourth build, I'd be ok with that!
  8. It definitely looks great so far. However, if you're looking for inspiration, the best Jurassic Park MOC I've seen (I was lucky enough to see it in person) can be seen here: http://www.1000steine.de/de/gemeinschaft/forum/?entry=1&id=351053#id351053 The builders went a little different direction with it, but maybe it'll give you some more ideas!
  9. Thanks for all the comments, I'm glad you all enjoyed this one. I actually had originally built a finished house to go next to this one, but decided not to include it because it was pretty...bleh. If I were able to make the framework a little more complex, I probably would have included a finished house, but unfortunately I ran out of tan 1x1 pieces.
  10. I really don't understand the need for this challenge whatsoever. As its been said, the one ship can be sister shipped (at any time) and the faction ship gets replaced assuming Eslandola now had less than three faction ships. If the owner of the first ship sister ships it now, he had his free license filled. Then if Esl wins this challenge, he gets the first one back, and now has two ships. The same goes for the faction ship. It gets replaced automatically, unless Esl got a fourth faction ship. Can anyone make a challenge just because they lose a ship on an MRCA run? Whats the point of the outcome then? I just don't understand this whatsoever. If the owner of the one ship wants the first one back, he can MOC a scene of him getting it back from Mardier--something several Sea Rats did after the first month. As for the faction ship, if Esl had less than three ships they get a replacement anyway. If they had more, that's just the way the cookie crumbles--I don't get why we need to make up ways to reverse the MRCA outcomes.
  11. I'm pretty sure today is the last day to enter.
  12. I know how you feel, and sometimes I post a small basic MOC and get 4 times as many comments as when I post a larger MOC I'm really proud of. I also build for myself, but also find it frustrating when I don't receive feedback (I would rather hear negative feedback that's constructive rather than hear no feedback). All that being said, I really like this MOC. I've actually taken quite a bit of inspiration from this and am thinking about trying a similar lighthouse kind of build for my next big project. The many little details including the interiors are especially impressive. I'll be waiting for castle number 3!
  13. This sounds great, and I'm very excited that the Guilds might get that kind of attention. Let us know when this runs!
  14. New freebuild for anyone interested!
  15. Craftsmen-Master Carpenter Brandon (here in green) Is Oros' best known carpenter, and has pariticipated in the construction of nearly all buildings constructed in Osgard since his apprenticeship. He now has over a dozen men in his employ that can take care of every aspect of constructing all sizes of buildings. Because of his team of skilled workers, he is able to very quickly complete a building project, and is therefore in very high demand throughout Oros, and is occasionally commisioned elsewhere. I had the idea to try a building under construction after seeing a picture of the process. While the build is pretty bare-bones (ran out 1x1s in tan), I'm fairly pleased with the result. Comments and Criticism are more than welcome!
  16. Very nice build. Your action posing, as always, looks fantastic. Looking forward to more from captain Morgan!
  17. That certainly applies to me as well. As much as I'd like it to be different, I just don't have the time I used to. I can't even comment on half of the MOCs I'd like to that I see on here. I'm just glad when I can get something built, photographed, and posted. Writing a nice story to go with is even getting hard to do currently. As for the wiki, anyone who likes using the wiki can certainly update it, and feel free to use any of my builds if you like. I personally have never used the wiki, and don't feel it necessary. I also think the majority of the members feel the same way, or the wiki wouldn't have become what it has now. I don't mean to discourage you in your attempt. If it's something you feel passionate about, by all means, continue working on it. It could potentially help recruit new members, which we would all appreciate. However, Many of us are unable to help.
  18. Hi all, I had planned on doing this build as well as my Nativity Scene for a long time. I had it done long before Easter and wanted to have it posted by then, but as is the case with most holidays, I was too busy. I'm finally having some photography friendly days again, so I was glad for that, but I'm still having problems getting the photos on a computer for GIMP, so the backgrounds aren't necessarily perfect. Anyway, I hope you enjoy. In case you couldn't tell, the build is double-sided. I made the rock face and ground work on both sides identical, which was quite a painstaking task, but it seemed necessary. Feedback is always appreciated. Thanks for looking!
  19. Thank you. Ground work (which in this case includes the border) is something I've been planning on working on. However, to do so, I need to buy a lot more pieces to make it work, especially for a bigger build like this, so the process has been slow. It is useful criticism, and I really do appreciate it. While I generally avoid studs on manmade objects (with a few exceptions) within builds, I can see where you're coming from. Improving landscaping in my builds is definitely my main focus for future builds, but the process has been slow. I probably should have thrown in some dark brown in a few places, but one thing I've been trying to do with my builds is to avoid the decrepit feel that everyone else seems to be into, so I tried keeping all the wood work clean looking. The result is, unfortunately, a lot of brown. I do build (unintentionally I must add) a lot of generally darker builds without much color. It is something I'm aware of, and have been trying to change slowly, but that didn't come out very much at all here. I think that if I had included more colors in different places, the brown might not look so dull. I will consider adding rafters on my next interior! Thank you. Indeed, the terrain needs some more love. As I've mentioned, I'm working on it, but unless I somehow fall into a bunch of money and/or Lego, the process of increasing my landscaping pieces will continue to be slow. Thanks LV! Thank you, I appreciate it! Thanks! There are a few on my flickr, but I don't think there are many at better angles. The well is basically the same as I made it in this build. I'll see if I can't get another shot or two of the wagon for you. Thank you. As mentioned, I'm also not a big fan of the terrain, and am working to improve it in future MOCs. Unfortunately I'm nowhere near as good at making trees as you are, but I appreciate the feedback! The color theme was an issue. Call me strange, but I have a hard time using the bright green plant pieces in a lot of my builds, unless I also have bright green ground plates. It just doesn't give me quite the right look I want, so I usually go with dark or olive green. It's still something I play with from time to time, because I'm not yet pleased with my solution. Thank you! Color can be a big challenge for me, as I tend to build more in neutrals, but it's something I've been working on to improve.
  20. Freebuild from the teaser earlier is now up.
  21. Great Oak Goods is a general store and trade center within Osgard. Built quite literally over one of the main roads in town, a very high concentration of travellers travel right through on their way by, making it the first stop travellers go to trade in junk or treasure for needed supplies on their journey. I'm back! As I said earlier, my Computer that I usually edit my photos with no longer works, and I'm still unable to get it to work on my other Computer. I decided that since there were several Pictures here that didn't need too much editing, I'd just go ahead and post them anyway. I hope you it! Criticism and comments are always appreciated!
  22. Great to have you among us!
  23. It was built by the Ambassador over at 1000steine. It can be seen here if you're interested. http://www.1000steine.de/de/gemeinschaft/forum/?entry=1&id=355935#id355935
  24. Wow, great setup, guys. Wish I could be there!
