I agree. I think they both have advantages, which is why both should still be in production. And maybe I am being too negative. Next time it will be TLG's best decision. :-D
-
I'm rather surprised we havent done this yet but what do you think TLG's worst or most ridiculous decisions were? One has come to mind recently. Ofcourse the whole Bley grey thing is just a joke but something thats been annoying me lately is how they dicontinued and replaced it with I just hate the rigidity of the click hinges. Rant on! >:-)

no you misunderstood. I have nothing against beta testers. I was just making a joke about how stauder used the >:-) emote for no apparent reason. I think that emote is overused. and on that matter, >:-)

SirNadroj's First Steampunk MOC: The Airship
john cleese replied to SirNadroj's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Sir N ya know, I came across this on Brickshelf and just knew I'd have to congratulate you on your crossover to the steampunk theme. I must say your being too modest for such an original and unique creation. The use of the indy whips for wires is fantastic and the doc ock arms just give it that distinguishable cartoony sirnadroj look. I'm surprised this hasn't recieved more replies. -
too bad X-D Well I agree that violence in the media has little affect on how people actually behave. I think historical violence like swords and cannons is more appropriate simply because it has little relevance in modern times and kids will find it hard to relate to. Sure its debated whether or not violence in the media translates to real violence but I was speaking in terms of how there seems to be this trend toward violence in our society lately. Just look at the movies these days. :-| This isn't helping. I must admit I don't particularly want to get into a debate either.

*wacko* AHHHH! TLG, you're killling me. I dont like this theme. It isn't <insert that tiresome argument> or poorly built, quite the opposite really. But to me this theme and some of these sets just scream megabloks. I'm also dissapointed by the new shark mold. What's wrong with the old one? But most of all I'm dissapointed by the complete disregard of the nonviolence policy. TLG is making guys with chainsaw arms now? This isnt appropriate for kids, is it? I don't want to come home to my borther going ZZZZZZ pretending one lego guy is getting his arm chopped off by this chainsaw armed jerk. I don't even consider myself a conservative but I think we should have standards about this kind of thing. I don't know maybe I'm preaching to the wrong crowd. I hope Lego does something cool like pirates next or I'll have to switch to Stickfas. :-X X-D Edit: Actually I took a second look and decided the designs weren't that great

wow this thing is really shaping up. There's some excellent greeblage in the engine room. The walkways are a neat addition, and I still think the water refreshment plant is a really creative idea. It's a large and impressive work and I cant wait to see it finished. *wub*

this looks really cool. We've never had quite this many traps in a JT set. I like the use of upsidedown dinosaurs to make faces. I dont like the idol too much. It doesn't look like lego. I would've preffered something like a minifig head. But hey that's just a minor complaint. Thanks for the review Big Pete.

Indiana Jones Part 4 - Set Pictures are available
john cleese replied to Navy Trooper Fenson's topic in LEGO Licensed
What is CCCP? Is this what your referring to? *wacko* I honestly dont see a problem with putting either the nazi swastika or the soviet star on these vehicles. I mean in the movie they will obviously be there right? I think society is too touchy about this kind of stuff. -
nothing! :'-( I waited for the 08 sets and TlG royally screwed me, so I got a bunch of rain checks. It's probably for the better since I now plan on going to this concert in Savannah Georgia. Stewart Copeland is doing an orchestral thing and it's all gonna be never before heard stuff. I feel this might be my chance to meet the guy in person. I thought this was ridiculous at first but it turns out my dad always wanted to go there, so things are looking pretty good for me. I just hope there are sill good seats available.

well PAM I knew that but I dont understand it's purpose.

To TPAM, What is the clock crew? And I dont want a link either. I went to the site I couldnt tell what it was all about. Furthermore what is EN? I went to that site and couldn't figure it out either.

I remember when I bought the viking fortress 2 years ago, I said what the hell?! There were two noticable discrepancies. Firstly all my modified 1x2 plates were a shade between red and dark red. Second, all the 2x2x3 sloped bricks had smooth surfaces. I knew something was amiss. Strangely enough, I havent really had any other problems with the quality of pieces. I did notice in my brother's spongbob and plankton adventures set, there were atleast 215 shades of yellow (and that's exactly how many yellow pieces there are in the set.) I just thought I would bring up my encounters with deformed pieces too.

Great review, this set looks awesome. I'm a bit ticked that TLG ultimately removed those rust coloured flexable hoses and replaced them with stickers. :-X I would've appreciated a door myself but I can't think of how they would put one in without redoing the entire design, so I won't complain too much. I had never noticed an elevator before so I wondered how bobby boy was suppposed to reach up to the platform to get on the ship. It's good to see lego thought of that, but there is still the matter of the door....(oh right I was going to shut up about that) I have to ask though, what is that piece used for the nose, I've never seen it before.

TPAM's sigfig has a cool helmet

I'm complaining because were just north of the border, we have the money for it and getting new sets to Toys'R'Us before christmas should be top priority for TLG. Toys'R'Us more like Toys'R'US!.... that was a joke. as in America gets all the toys. Ahh screw it....... this is probably what will happen. I guess I shouldnt feel bad for Canadians, while countries like Greece and NewZealand have to wait longer. :-D
-
they havent sent me anything yet, maybe I'll have to subscribe again.
-
Well nothing at my stores yet. Man this is really grinding my gears, how the hell long does it take for them to ship some crates to Canada? C'mon TLG, you obviously have a market here, I'm sure megabloks will have their latest stuff on Canadian shelves before christmas. :-| Anyway have any of you fellow canadians spotted an 08 set in any store? I have a feeling if I dont tell my mom quick, I'll end up with one of those overpriced lego city harbor sets. :-X Yes, the high price makes me sick.
-
but I wonder what TPAM has to say for himself. 8-|

90's but I'm probably just being nostalgic. I think the 90's, especially the early and mid 90's was when Lego was really on top of things. It was a good balance between New fangled pieces and strange, adventurous new themes, while it stuck to it's roots and encouraged creative play. And there were no giant technic shooting pieces. :-P I'm sure the 80's might have been that period for some, but I think the early 80's was still pretty basic. The 90's was definately Lego's golden age.

The Your Own Creations Forum
john cleese replied to Starwars4J's topic in Forum Information and Help
I was actually going to make a topic about this but didnt get around to it. I myself wondered if these MOC's are going into their respective theme forums, what's the point of a YOC forum? *wacko* So I guess this is a good idea. I see many of the new topics in these forums are for creations anyway, this will just make it easier for us to find a particular MOC. But I do think that an MOC forum is an essential part of any Afol Message Boards. If anything I would've thought the MOC's posted in space, pirates etc, would be moved to the MOC forum. I wasnt finding that the amount of MOC's was unbearable and I've seen most of them. I dont think it's a big deal though. I'm also worried that topics for new sets and whatnot, which generate a lot of replies might drown out MOC topics. Have you guys considered having an MOC subforum in each of the theme forums or would that take up too much bandwidth? 8-| -
Hardship of Destroying Old Mocs for New?
john cleese replied to Brickmaster's topic in General LEGO Discussion
it was my eventual decision to remove that comment as it is sort of an insult, whether it's intended as such or not. I'm not a time bomb! I removed that particular remark, even before you made your post, just barely. I'm sorry but I really thought long and hard about whether or not to post it in the first place, I started writing it some 30 minutes ago. What annoys me to no end now is I didn't manage to get away with any of it. And I'm sure you'll leave it up there for everyone to see regardless, heck you might even alert Sir.N (although if you removed it nobody would have to know) and I can live with that. So SirNaroj, I'm Very Very sorry, I have no buisness talking about your MOC's like that and I am actually very fond of your work. As for calling some Afols greedy perhaps I stand by it. If they never take apart anything and just keep building and building new moc's not recycling their parts ever, isnt that greed? I just knew this would spark off something I couldnt control as usual. Oh the humanity. -
Hardship of Destroying Old Mocs for New?
john cleese replied to Brickmaster's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I disagree, don't go BL'ing everytime you run out of pieces, I know it's hard to dismantle old MOCs but I have brought myself to do it every now and then. Infact, the three items I currently have posted on my BS account are all dismantled. I can pull apart old MOC's because I know that my MOCing can only improve and I'll eventually make something bigger and better. Call me a hippy, commy, whatever but I think the fact that everytime an afol uses up all his/her parts on models, they buy a bunch of new parts from Bricklink, reflects our mentality as privileged citizens. But think about it, if this continued the market would be purged of perfectly good parts because of greedy Afol's with more buying power. While you have 4 old-skool technic motors, some other kid has 0, where's the justice in that? Anyway, it's your choice, that's just my 2 cents. -
TPAM is an acronym for The Person Above Me :-P

wait a minute this oughtta be moved to games...... right?
