Heroica RPG - Decamon Tournament: Cerulean Cup
Chromeknight replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Nerwen plays her thunderbird electric 4 in response to the second carrion squirrel. Then she plays her Tygurah electric 7. You seem to be in the dark Mister Bones. Let me spark things up. -
Wow. Do not remember her...

Heroica RPG - Decamon Tournament: Cerulean Cup
Chromeknight replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Nerwen leads with her Electriphant Electric 6. I always start the battle with a charge! -
Not missing anything. Just that Sandy has a life and doesn't update the first page of the topic the instant you post in thread.

Much like tic tac toe, decamon (once the hands are chosen) is a very circumscribed game and it's possible to say with exactness the likelihood one hand will win over another. The ability to choose which of your cards to play doesn't matter if you don't have a card in your hand that can beat the played card. Two questions that are raised are Are all five cards played? Does the match continue beyond one player winning? And in a draw, are players allowed to re choose thier hand? And incorporate cards that were just won?

Hello insertnamehere, Professor Joak here, your resident decamonster dealer. So, you've been given a hand of Decamon cards and you want to know how good they are? I can help. A level one card of some non-etherial type will beat 20 other cards by trumping them. It will tie with the other 6 level one cards. Hence it will lose to the other 74 cards. Of course, in the earlier rounds, you won't be facing level nine or ten cards, so your odds of a tie are slightly better. Win=16, tie=6, lose=58. A level five non-etherial card has the following odds no considering level nines and ten Win=16+((5-1)*6)=40 or 50% tie=6 or 7.5% lose=16+((8-5)*6)=34 or 42.5% A level eight elemental card is corresponding stronger. Again ignoring nines and tens Win=16+((8-1)*6)=58 or 72.5% tie=6 or 7.5% lose=16+((8-8)*6)=16 or 20% For a hand of 5 cards, working out its odds of winning requires a couple of steps. First work out the average level of your cards. Add the levels together and divide by 5. For example, if I have cards from level four to level 8 then (4+5+6+7+8)/5=30/5=6 Then, working out the odds of losing use the same formula above Lose=16+((8-average level)*6)=16+((8-6)*6)=28 or 35% therefore winning (or tying the match)=65% Of course, this analysis isn't complete. If you've got an Etherial card in your hand, things change some.

Nerwen walks by the questboard again, humming a complex tune she recalled from when she was young. A backhand swipe with her crowbar prods the questboard to remember she was a minstrel not a paladin.
-
Nerwen smiles a bright smile. Who am I? I'm just one reminding you of your debt to the elves of R'kilf.
-
Nerwen sees the Ambassador fiddling with a single gold coin. Here you are master naugrim, you will need four more to play. Nerwen hands Throlar 4 gold.
-
Nerwen leans over to the hero prodding the automaton Psst! You can only buy one hand.
-
Two mis-posts, then when you do post in what seems to be the target topic, you don't actually buy cards
-
Nerwen buys an electric magician's hand I'm sure this will spark many opportunities! she says with a grin.
-
Nerwen would have kicked the questboard. If she was there, or perhaps she wasn't. Bit since the questboard was kicked she must've been going to have been there. Anyway, reality was warped and her sign up for the quest had clearly been going to have been eaten by the snafu, meaning that she was signed up because she must've been going to. Nerwen v. #121 Questboard - bent crowbar(3x v. Mechanic enemies)

Ah yes, I hadnt considered the case at that end.

Rules modification:(proposed) A player can only play each monster card once per match. (Ie. No duplicates in a hand). Eg. If a well stocked player has five etherial-8 cards, the can only play one and must make other choices for other plays. They can have multiples in thier deck so if they lose a favoured card but win the match they can use it next time, but it adds strategy which, (I think!) may even the playing field a little. Of course Sandy may have already built NPC hands which would fall foul of this rule... As for Decamon drafter class, the simple change would be to distinguish between deck and hand. The shield roll puts a chosen hand of five cards into play rather than all the cards the Drafter has.
-
You said that the tournament would be played in seperate cups. Perhaps you might ask some committed contributors to run each of those. I know if have free time over the next couple of weeks and several keen QM's are not currently running quests (let alone 3, no matter how small or well planned!). This would free you up to run the NPCs and to act as final arbiter. This isn't about doubiting your integrity, but about sparing you from stupid amounts of work over the Christmas period (unless that's what you were actually after!) and saving you from burning out. It also lifts PvP above reproach and forestalls any bitter feelings in the community that could possibly arise. As for the deck cap, don't bother. A player can still be eliminated with mny cards in his deck and part of the point of this exercise was to put some decamon cards into circulation. Big purchases achieve that. Plus he can act as a resource for trading and onselling the cards. (Unless you want to do what games shops here in Aus do and ban person to person sales, asking players to sell to and buy from the shop, which would be yet more work for you!)

Nerwen smiles a wide grin. Sereg'wethrin, it has been a while, hi! How goes your light-killing? And your lady friend?
-
Nerwn looks at the staff thoughtfully. I would sell it but I'd like the amethyst. But you can have the gem removed cheaper than I can if you're good terms with the marketplace. So three hundred gold then and you remove the amethyst for me?
-
Nerwen curtsied and said Master Matthias, you do me honour. I do not think I said it on the trip home from Ve'er, but it was a pleasure standing beside you on our last quest. You were a true and faithful companion.
-
Thank you says Nerwen before raising the flute and playing a gentle, sleepy melody. Nerwen hands Erik further 100 gold. She then slides the silver instrument into her satchel which dislodges her magical staff, sending it clattering to the floor.
-
That is a well crafted instrument. What price would you like for it? Nerwen hands 50gold to Erik and accepts the Hundren Hero Hymn.
-
We have not quested together but we have spoken long of the gods here in this hall. That was whilst I was a shaman, I have moved along the path since then.
-
Nerwen accepts the paper that Erik is holding out, reading through it she says, This is fine work. It has rhythm and balance, it would be very inspiring. Can I buy this from you? Perhaps fifty gold? Do you know anyone selling an instrument?
-
Munky! Gods smile upon you! I was just about to introduce these two young heroes. turning to Kiray and Erik she said Kiray, this is Erik Tyvarr, he and I quested together quite a while ago to help a little girl. Erik, this is Kiray Nastayo, we haven't quested togther. She was about to tell me how she became a knight here at Heroica.
-
When is Erik's birthday? He's not 20 yet?
