Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Chromeknight replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
It's not every song, I think. Just the lullaby. -
Nerwen sees Hoke signing up for the fields of glory. I have never been there. Is it worthwhile? Would you like some company?

Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Chromeknight replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
Minstrel is (somewhat) broken. I loved the feeling of power controlling the battlefield, especially in the last battle, but Nanny's Lullaby? Battle winner right there. It turns a horde battle into a curbstomp. And all for a measly Ether. It removes free hits, which are the only thing that would scare a minstrel, since they go at the top of order to get maximum effect from songs. What if it had a per enemy cost instead of a flat rate? -
Yah. Not my best performance. I've been trying to quantify why the quest felt slow. It only ran for 38 days (which for recent quests is very short). In that time I posted 54 times, Emjajoas 44 and Capt.JP 31, so the average is above once a day. There were periods where there was a gap of more than a day, and christmas/New Years was in there too. I think the other point was there wasn't a large about of interaction between heroes. Is that a QM thing or a player thing? I think both, the QM needs to give players something to talk about and the players need to pick it up and run with it. So, yep I dropped the ball there. The quest pitch was to find the mummifying murderer, so it seemed like it'd be a mystery quest, with exploring locations, unearthing clues and finally confronting the nefarious monster in their lair. Instead it turned political, 'save the Kingdom' which, for various past quest reasons several characters were not going to buy into, not without personal connection or a game-breakingly large incentive. We just got handed the solution to the murders, which took some of the fun out of it. As for characters, what was up with Garett? Was he a Mary Sue? Or a more important character who got edited down? His not coming on the final battle was all me, I'll take some responsibility for the tearing down characters comment above. But if he was important why wasn't there push back from him (or Slate) saying "Hey, wait, you need me". But if he didn't need to be there for story reasons, why make the offer? It wasn't like you'd worked out battles were too hard and were throwing in an NPC to help balance the team or fill a role that was lacking. His picture was in your avatar, was it just that you liked the LDD work you'd done? Or was it that he was going to be the Ironwill prince and when Guts confronted him you were scared he'd just be murderlized right there and then? Anyway, I've just come from two Zeph quests, every one of his NPCs that joins the party has their own agenda and will betray the party if needed. I expected the same (especially as it was clear he wasn't a helper NPC) and didn't want to deal with that among a party that wasn't working together well in the first place. And we weren't working together. Sure battles were fine, but we weren't being threatened or pushed, everyone was just doing their own thing and there wasn't a need to prioritise targets. I think you did get the brown end of the stick with minstrel, it is in some ways overpowered (I'll post re that in the class discussion thread). But contra what was said above, I don't think it was Artificer and Alchemist that were the problem (though Guts dispensing 1000+ damage a round is a factor), but Assassinate and Mystic Knight's spellspin both of which chewed through enemies. I will come back to the battles, not to comment on what you should have done differently but to talk of the effect they had on the characters. Difficult battles that need strategy build teams. Easy battles just build contempt. Both for the enemies and for the 'good guys'. The first is obvious, the second is because if the enemies are easy beats, but the group the heroes are helping has trouble with them then clearly that good group can't be all that skilled since they can't beat easy beats and need the heroes to do it. That may explain some of the 'attitude' Slate (and Garett) copped after the second battle and why the third battle was treated with disdain, seeing the same enemies again. After all that, I probably owe you an apology Em, I wasn't up to my usual standard and let some metagame stuff influence how Nerwen reacted. You put in hard work and we could see you were knocked around by the first battle walkover and then the smith thing. It was a tough audience (four of six players have QMd) with some abrasive characters. Shake it off and work on the next one. I, for one, would happily quest under you again, if you'd have me.

Nerwen shakes Charlestons hand Happy to help Thanks for the quest.
-
Nerwen does not try to change the party's mind about Barus, despite her misgivings about letting such a creature free. Yes, lets go.
-
Master Hoke. I'm not sure diplomacy works if they're asleep. Nerwen plays Rapid March first, then finishes the battle order with Nanny's Lullaby again.
-
Didn't mean to step in anyone's toes by posting a battle order and suggested actions! Seeing Dyric draw his bow, Nerwen nods. Now you might have asked what a caniomancer who has some skill with evocation and a demon as a pet is scared of, What sends him running for the protection of these walls. But whatever it was, I doubt it was as scary as Master Holla here.

Pretzel/Guts *Reinforced* Dyric *Lucky* Guts/Pretzel *Encouraged* Guts/Pretzel *Lucky* Nerwen *Hastened* Battle order Nerwen v. Lucky Chant - Party *Lucky* Guts v. Guts - Smelling salts (free action for alchemist) Guts v. Marcellus - Mythril Edge (Dual strike from Magnar's smaller Axe, Marcellus) Guts v. Marcellus - Mythril Edge (Dual strike from Magnar's smaller Axe, Marcellus) > Hoke v. Archer A - Hollow Flagpole (+1 to Shield on Enchant, Amethyst on Spellspin Blade) > Dyric v. Archer C - Mockthril Longbow Alexander v. Archer B - Sword of the Elven Blademaster (ignores SP) > Monk v. Archer D - Flying Cross Nerwen v. Nanny's Lullaby - All enemies *Asleep* Free Hits None
-
Nerwen draws out her flute. She first plays Lucky Chant at the top of the battle before anyone else can act. She then plays Nanny's Lullaby at the end of the heroes' actions. I'll put them to sleep so they can't attack back.

Hands are not a weapon type. Hence cannot have effects applied to them.
-
Nerwen shrugs. What reason to shift the balance of power is there other than thinking one will end up with more power? The answer to your question is contained in the question. As for what they will do with the power, that is even less interesting. They will use their new power to indulge their desires, and do you really want to poke around in what some other man desires? As for stopping them, a man that has decided to use violence to get more power has two points where he can be dealt with. The first is you can convince him he can get what he wants, that is, more power, without violence. Are you willing to concede rule of Ovalen to these Ironwill? I thought not. The second is to convince him that he can fulfil his desires without gaining more power, which may work for those of baser desires, sating their appetites. But how does one deal with the man whose desire is to rule, to have power, and is prepared to use violence to get it? No, a man that has picked up a weapon to assault another is beyond answering questions.

Nerwen tsks. Now Dyirc, that's no way for an assassin to behave. Shoot first, questions later.

Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion

"As well as throwing weapons and slaves" Slaves is not a weapon type. "They can also utilise scrolls and gems" Detective is not a spell casting class now. Photographic Memory job trait. Does this mean a Detective can use a scroll in another player's inventory if they have 'seen' it? Or seen a scroll in a shop? Autopsy (and little grey cells) why afraid rather than weakened? Aside from 'flavour'? Afraid also means the whole party (except ranged weapon users) will deal half damage to the enemy for the rest of the battle. Autopsy. Why confused and stunned? aside from flavour? Confused means next hit (damage, special damage, free hit) is directed at an ally, stunned means next hit is lost. Confused makes stunned redundant. Red herring. Does *observant* apply to scroll use? Close inspection job trait. Might seem fun on paper, but in real play it will go like this. Detective enters room. Checks for hiders QM says no hiders. Move on. Detective enters another room. Checks for hiders QM says no hiders. Move on. Detective enters outside. Checks for hiders QM says no hiders. Move on. Detective enters field. Checks for hiders QM says no hiders. Move on. ... Repeat several iteratons. Detective enters another room. No longer bothers to check for hiders. ... Detective enters barracks room. No longer bothers to check for hiders. Enemy leaps out of hiding. Detective kicks self for missing chance to use job trait that had been useless until then. Job traits. Expert , Veteran and Advanced classes have three job traits, not four. -
Nerwen's voice was firm. Nah, the betraying and dying'd be fine, it's the betraying and then running away so we have to chase him, or worse, when we can't chase him that would be bad. Worse still would be having to come back to this place six months later for a whole 'nother quest to put an end to his megablocking betrayals. So no, he can't come, we've got no reason to trust him and he can offer no surety.

You were paid to keep the sewers safe? They should get their money back, doesn't look like you did a good job. If you're as good at hunting as you are at keeping sewers safe, I don't think we'll need your help. Besides, we have had enough of random strangers joining us for their own purposes then scampering.

By the data MojoLego supplied from brickset, There was a gap between 10219 Maersk Train and 10233 Horizon Express where no creator train was available. Given 10194 Emerald Night's long run, it's likely there was another production run since the set had sold well, meaning it was still available when 10219 debuted. Otherwise we might have expected a gap in availablity there also. So. It is not unreasonable to expect a period of time where the 10233 is no longer available but the next creator train is not yet for sale (or leaked/announced).

Nerwen blinks, another fast battle. If that's the standard of Ironwill soldiers, the Overwatch shouldn't have too much of a problem. Yes, we were with the cloaked man. Why do you ask about him?
-
Nerwen hears Guts muttering Speak up so everyone can hear you, rogue. She then begins to play a sprightly tune before anyone acts. Party Order: Nerwen v. Lucky Chant - Party Lucky until Nerwen acts again. Ambrose v. Elite - Ambrose v. Swordsman - Guts v. Archer A - Mythril Edge Guts v. Archer B - Mythril Edge > Hoke v. Cavalier A - Amethyst (Hollow Flagpole) > Hoke v. Cavalier B - Amethyst (Hollow Flagpole) > Dyric v. Shieldbearer A - Mockthril Longbow > Dyric v. Shieldbearer B - Mockthril Longbow Alexander Alexander > Pretzel v. Archer C - Flying Cross > Pretzel v. Ironwill Elite - Flying Cross > Nerwen v. Swordsman - Nocturne Flute
-
No need to put me first Dyric, Guts' Bravado Brew has done what my songs would, plus there will be no free hits anyway. Party Order: Ambrose v. Elite - Ambrose v. Swordsman - Guts v. Archer A - Mythril Edge Guts v. Archer B - Mythril Edge > Hoke v. Cavalier A - Amethyst (Hollow Flagpole) > Hoke v. Cavalier B - Amethyst (Hollow Flagpole) > Dyric v. Shieldbearer A - Mockthril Longbow > Dyric v. Shieldbearer B - Mockthril Longbow Alexander Alexander > Pretzel v. Archer C - Flying Cross > Pretzel v. Ironwill Elite - Flying Cross > Nerwen v. Swordsman - Nocturne Flute > Nerwen v. Swordsman - Nocturne Flute
-
Captain, it is possible those men are acting with the Ironwill. We will stop them and the Ironwill also. Ambrose, if you would be so good as to come with us, we will finish your master's task that you may be at peace.
-
'Course you could survive, you're a tank. Ditto for Hoke or Monk in #121. Meanwhile, Dyric would fall even easier than Nerwen. Meh. Maybe that says it's fine then. Tanks stay up, DoTs and Controllers fall.
-
The in game reasoning is that the magic macguffin that stops the heroes dying on the job makes them all the same 'type'. So, if I take the opposite side to Guts in a battle, I'm going to get knocked around, but should survive more than a single round, depending on the PvP rules in play. But if I'm on the same side, he gets confused and hits me, it'd be a one hit KO?
-
Nerwen turns to the spirit, who had clearly been listening. What say you to all this?
-
Venom is applied to weapons, it isn't drunk. Venomed weapons cause the poisoned effect. The poisoned effect can affect heroes.
