  1. Nerwen sashays into the hall. Normally an understated presence, her new shimmering light blue dress, fitted to her slim but feminine figue cannot help but draw glances from all. Her face, which previously was stern is sunny and open and her voice now carried a different timbre Hello all! Stars shine on our meeting!
  2. Nerwen enters the training room. Seeing Copper Fox she says I wish to train as a minstrel, to unlock the power of song in battle. Copper Fox replies Your weapons, you will not need them. Now, let's hear what you've got. Nerwen divests herself of armour, shield and sword. Standing in a simple linen shift she begins to sing. Good says the Fox, Open yourself to the world, let the music flow in. As she sings, Nerwen's voice changes, losing the distinct trace of elvish pronunciation and her dress shimmers, lengthens and changes to a fitted, sparkling sheath. Olegia! Olegia! I am one with the wind and sky Olegia! Olegia! Here I stand in the light of day. Let the storm rage on! The old never bothered me anyway! You need only an instrument now and you are ready. Nerwen pulls a battered flute from her satchel. This was a gift long ago, I'm certain Anywl can sharpen it up. Nerwen Calmcacil (played by Chromeknight) 264 year old female Elven Paladin Level 32 *double experience**counterstriking* Power bonus: +8 (quest #102) Defense: 0 Health: 46 (Base Cleric 9 +Level bonus 31 -Quest #102 5 +Minstrel Bonus 11) Ether: 37 (Base Cleric 5 +Level bonus 31 +Minstrel Bonus 4) Gold: 54 Equipment:Medal of Valor (Double experience from battles; accessory), Counterstrike Gloves.
  3. Nerwen slips into the foyer if the hall and looks over the questboard. She signs up for quests #119 and #120 She writes minstrel next to her name and level although she has not yet trained. She then goes to do just that.
  4. The silence is not that I (or, I suspect others) don't want to comment, for me I've just been reading over the quest to remind myself of all we did and said. That and trying to work out what's next for Nerwen, it feels like she's done the paladin thing now and is ready to move on. Firstly, thanks zeph. I think we could see the effort you put in, especially in the midst of life and other quests and so on. For myself, I wasn't as into this quest as previous ones, partly life stuff and partly the party dynamic felt odd. I have all sorts of ways I can critique my own play here, so I don't feel too bad adding a word or two about others. Purpearl and Nerwen were always going to clash, two opionated elves played by talkative players. Thanks PPJB for someone to bounce off and for being cool with character conflict not being a personal thing. That said, there were a couple of times (fighting the snake, assaulting Lieutenant Andrew, leaving the chaomancer alive) where you seemed to run against the other three in your party just for the hel of it. Keep an eye on that, that it's a character thing not a player thing, check in with your group that they're ok. I know not everyone plays the same way, but often Purpearl will think something as a reaction rather than say something. This leaves others with a choice, become mind readers and use what you've written, or ignore it and carry on regardless. Talk as well as think. Alexis and Nerwen have had some good moments before, I remember in the hall with Nyx chatting about love, but even after a week of subjective time (and seven months objectively) I don't feel like I know her any better. You, masked, posted less than everyone else (which in itself is not bad) but a lot of your battle posts were simply Alexis repeats with no banter and little contribution to strategy. Even in the last battle you were giving orders for zelphie after she'd been KO'd and raised by Avertine. Sometimes it felt like you were just phoning it in. But then, the fall out between them after the last battle was great from a character point of view, so there is something there. My suggestion is almost the opposite to Purpearl's above. Alexis is a harlot, we rarely see how that plays out in how she approaches others, more than that we (as player/readers) don't get to see how she feels about it, being a 19 year old girl who does all sorts of explicit things to enemies, should be a character comedy goldmine, but it rarely is. Matthias and Nerwen got along great. Originally I was going to ditch the cowl since Matthias could carry the RuffPig interaction, but I kept it on and I'm glad I did, it gave them some great asides and chances to snark at Purpearl. Nerwen really likes the gnome, and beyond that Stick, you were a great player. Full of strategy, questions and staying on top of battle corrections and details. You posted more than Zeph even, which is above and beyond. You were always going to be odd man out tagging along with three elves, but it never fazed you, which was great. I know you acknowledged this in the quest, but keep working on being able to post the strategy stuff in character as Matthias gains confidence. (I'd really love to see him as PL someday, even host you!). That said, a lot of your posts were solely OOC, if you'd been less talkative in other posts that'd be a problem. As it is, it ain't, but keep an eye on it. Nerwen and XX started coldly. After all, it was one of his bombs Atramor used for a party wipe in Dastan. But Nerwen likes Nyx and was able to put enough together to give him a chance. So that by the end she respected him as a party member and wasn't going to leave him hanging. However, it felt like Nerwen's increased rapport came at the expense of RuffPig, not interacting with them as much as I could've. As I said, I'm glad I kept the cowl on, and not just for Matthias interaction. Seeing Purpearl send the dead to murder Russel was something Nerwen had to act on, even if it took three days to untangle, party allied Zepher NPCs are great and should be preserved where possible. (NPCs that are just self indulgent Mary-sues however need to be brutally murdered and have their corpses violated by black magic....) Samuel was great too, and I wish Nerwen had learnt that song from Malty, despite him being a treacherous two-faced (many-faced) no-goodnik. The only comment on battles I'll make are I'm disappointed the Hissvetia battle was there, especially with the camaraderie effect in play. And Kinto's assassin battle, though it tied to a concurrent quest and was good RP moments, felt like filler as well. Anyway, XP and loot, WOOT! I'm not going to comment on the last battle, I think my quote above says what needs to be said there, plus you already expressed your complex emotions regarding it. Storyline-wise. It was frustrating that the quest was protect Avertine and then spend the next five months with him offscreen. I don't mind railroading, passing the party from one encounter to another but it was a slow train, so that by the time it came to save Avertine's megablocks, it was hard to care, except for a 'quest successful' tag and XP. That said, I come back to the comment I started with, clearly you put heaps of effort into, what in the end, is a game, art, escape and entertainment. That my character doesn't have some stuff or has other baggage now, that's just grist for the mill and not cause for complaint, I, as a player, have been variously thrilled, frustrated, confused, smug and amused by the quest, what more can you ask?
  5. Apologies if this has been addressed. I have looked at the help section too. The information there is outdated perhaps? There are two linked questions, The first is, clicking the print topic button only shows the page of posts rather than the whole topic? Equally downloading the topic only generates a file which does not have the whole topic in it. I am looking at long topics from Heroica. Perhaps that's the limitation? If so, is there a way around it?
  6. Thats an impressive weapon you have there Master Ruffers. Ok. Let us clean up. Do not get too close. We will contain first then finish. Battle order > Nerwen - Scroll of Sealing vs. Toxic Spill Beast > Ruffers and Pigely - Crabspirator vs. Toxic Spill Beast > Guard Bert - Halberd vs. Toxic Spill Beast I assume that sealing/blinding does not negate the passive special poisoning? You should also have on the Sylvania Cowl in the place of your helmet, I apologize for the mistake! It does not affect anything this round. I've also buffed Russel a very little bit, I think he is more appropriate this way! "Thank you! The frog paladins made it up for me. I have no idea where I got the idea!" says Russel cheerily. Andrew insists that you're all bad, and yet I have yet to have a bad experience with any of you!" "You fought with grace!" exclaims the crab. "Thank you for the assistance, as well." "If the watch can do anything for you, Madam, just say the word!" says Bert earnestly. "Though I will have to come back here to help mop up a little, I suspect. The Apothecary is never quite as thankful as you'd think. He always claims we made a mess of the place, when honestly it's almost always a mess to begin with." Well, it was an experience if nothing else. We should be on our way. Though, perhaps I am diplomatic about it, Russel might have an opportunity to purchase a pheonix essence to replace the one I used? I often find that parties overlook such a useful consumable and end up not being able to revive fallen members, especially if there is a concern some may miss out on the experience of doing battle. for not being able to swap for double XP... Bert leads Nerwen out of the Apothecary, and gives her instructions to mention his name to the guards at the gate to the Hovels if they hassle her. He then waves farewell and Nerwen, Russel, and Pigley trudge along. "I don't believe we'll have time to go shopping, m'lady, as we're already late. I can promise, however, that the first chance I get I will absolutely return that Phoenix Essence to you, and get another one as a thank you." The guards at the gate let them through without much trouble, and they don't even have to mention Bert's name. Apparently they've been through the motions a few times today. It takes a good fifteen minutes of wandering around aimlessly before they are able to find Everyman, standing with three recognizable figures. OoC: Allow me to post in the thread before you do, but everyone is together now!
  7. Nerwen nods I can make that trade with you. Amethyst imbued weapons are very useful, so many of those we must fight are humanoid. Alexis, what can I offer you for Magnar's smaller axe? It would be a fitting compainion to the minotaur's axe I already have.
  8. I have neither an Amethyst or Ruby gem, nor immunity to fire or darkness, so any would be fine also.
  9. depends on if it's SP before or after division. #102 had it before division, so an opponent dealing 33 damage does 1 to you (regardless of row. 80 damage would do 4 damage to you in the back row or 7 in the front. If XX had died, Matthias would have stuck a shiv into me had he not got the loot. But yes, I could 'persuade' him to lend me something until my next QM drops something better. Equally #102 isn't over yet  Meh, arguably I'm equally unprepared for Minstral (I knew I should have pestered Malty into actually teaching me that song!) and I don't qualify for any class that uses an axe except shaman.
  10. Where to next for Nerwen? Minstrel, Cannoneer or a different cleric class (Witch/Sage/Druid)? Got a instrument sitting in your inventory you want to sell? PM me now!
  11. Not to nitpick, but I assume the tricorn and helmet are headwear, the cape is backwear and zelphie's staff is a staff. Also congrats for tomorrow, which is probably today here. perhaps this might also be a good time to return items that have been lent out? Alexis, my white cloak and Purpearl my gems and scrolls please.
  12. Expect 8 to 10 man/hours to set it up. So if it's just you, allow a whole day. If you've got four others to help it'll still take a couple of hours. Tear down will be quicker depending on how well sorted you want to keep stuff. As for a barrier, it is needed, and what sort is just a matter of what you've got. People will bump the layout, knocking stuff off if there is no barrier, and sad to say, some small items may go missing. PF trains. Are you talking AAA cell battery boxes or Li-Po rechargeable ones? Both do ok, but if you can have extra boxes so you're swapping the boxes then fixing the charge rather than fixing the charge without the train running. PF will auto cutout but you'll probably be switching trains more often than that. Control of PF in an open space is fiddily, you'll need to get close, so multiple train running should be avoided. You will definitely need more than one person. Every other visitor will have questions (starting with "I didnt know lego made trains!") and you'll need regular food/toilet/headspace breaks. Besides, if it's viewable from four sides, unless you have eyes in the back of your head, you may need a third person. (Two to mind the layout, the third to give the others breaks). Hope this helps, good luck and take pictures!
  13. Heroes hit hard but can't take much damage. Any fight between heroes with modifying the rules is brutally short, one or at best two rounds. The systems we're discussing are different (but very similar) ways to resolve that. Now that I'm thinling of it, there is a huge difference between PvP and PvE that hasn't been mentioned yet. Chance of damage. In PvE, players take damage one or two rolls out of six, ie. rarely. Healing is a secondary action or a response to a series of bad rolls. And stopping to heal may allow an extra free hit, but usually nothing more than that. In PvP, players take damage usually every round. And if like Zeph did, the order of attackers alternates, the damage is taken consecutively with no response opportunity. This makes healing more crucial but with an crippling opportunity cost. Healing means giving up damaging the opponent. So unless you can heal faster than he can damage, stopping to heal is essentially conceding the fight. As detailed above, healing faster than damage is much harder in an multiply HP system. Unless healing actions are also multiplied, which negates that system's simplicity.
  14. That's an assumption. And its equivalent to saying if Chauncey had less health, Avertine would have won. Yes, and no. And this highlights the difference between the two methods. Any thing that happens to health after multiplication or before division is attenuated. In the case of the *10 system, that's everything. So the four things that affect health all move in the same way. In the case of the /7 system, that's only damage (and SP since it got moved) leaving effects and health proportionally more powerful. Damage - need to take 10 times as much damage as you'd normally have dealt to you, which gives a feeling of power. also, still dealing large numbers of damage out, further feeling powerful. OR -take damage 7 times slower than in a PvE fight, OHKOs are off the table and there feels less threat. But equally dealing seemingly less damage (though here, rounding can alternately help or hinder you). However as has been previously noted, tick damage from effects is much more powerful in a division system with unmultiplied health. a badly poisoned 10 damage to 50 health is much nastier than that same 10 damage to 500 health. conversely, blessing of +3H can restore a hit of 21damage in a /7 system, it does proportionally much less in a *10 system. Equally, if someone drinks a potion (+5H) in a /7 system, they've undone a round or two of damage. As you've pointed out, flipz, that's not the case in a *10 system. Upshot, neither system is objectively 'better'. The *10 system is (much!) simpler, but at the cost of attenuating healing and effects. This just means different tactics are needed. To win against Chauncey under a /7, Nerwen should have been spam healing Avertine and XX, boring but effective.
  15. Nerwen replies just as quietly to Matthias. She means me. Perhaps I ought lend her the cowl and she might see Russel and Pigley as people rather than pets? Having mentioned them, she looks around for them. <What will you do next brave crab?>
  16. This fits with how the battle felt, we simply couldn't deal Chauncey enough damage. And adding inspired on that put it out of the park entirely. I do note Flipz, you assume under an *10 system Chauncey would have 700-800 health. Why woudn't Zeph, having written his stats multiply the 205 health he had by 10, giving us 2050 we needed to whittle. As to SP being borked, at one point I was going to take an ambrosia, but 16 vs 32 SP translated into 2 or maybe 3 (depending on rounding) more points of damage reduced. {16/7=2.28 32/7=5.56} which wasn't going to be a significant advantage. In a non PvP battle Ambrosia means stopping OHKOs from high level enemies and bouncing damage from low ones.
  17. Do you think she has Dockens Disease that she'd be able to make an observation like that? But seriously would it have made that much of a difference? I was going to run it myself for my own interest, but if you've got the numbers already I'd be keen to see them.
  18. Nerwen replies mildly. I chose. The choice was mine. I was clear about that while speaking to Chauncey. And I accept there are consequences of the choice I made. However, if we are discussing whether my choice was wrong or bad, I am pointing out that the flaw in the choice lies not in my process of choosing but in the information given about the options I was asked to chose from. And some of the consequences we suffer here are the product of others' choices. As for the side I was on losing, that can certainly be laid at your feet. Chauncey must thank you for his very life, he would not have survived if he did not have you next to him drugging him into invincibility. To XX she speaks softly, Rest. The danger is past. I will speak to Nyx for you, when next I see her. Is there anything else you wish to say? I shall be discrete with any message you choose to send through me. But you will have all my skill at words. And I will make sure Matthias completes your bargin with him, rest now.
  19. Seeing Purpearl look away, Nerwen asks quietly Do you have something to add?
  20. But by keeping relevant information from us, that Chauncey was trustworthy and reasonable, you impared our ability to make an informed choice.
  21. It is not so much the failed quest, but that even though you thought it right you did not try to persuade us to join you. You did not think it right for us also.
  22. Having finished and hearing Matthias speak for himself, Nerwen steps to the side, checking on XX. Sorry if you feel drowned out Stick! that's not my intention. I can get a bit carried away with the walls of text. Nerwen's done now, the floor is yours, he wants to know why you stood by Avertine.
  23. Nerwen, having begun speaking, lecturing Chauncey really, cannot stop. When you say you do not believe in them, what are you saying? Surely you cannot be saying they do not exist, since you admit you feel love and fear, you do good and evil. Equally you likely do not mean that you do not trust love and fear, as if they were persons who make promises that they keep or break. But if you mean that you do not believe that love and fear exist in an elemental abstract state, as if there were a fear brick out there, perhaps coloured yellow, that every example of fear must refer back to, then you have denied nothing meaningful about fear or love or any other concept. If this is the conclusion you draw when you say words are only so much, that they have power, yet not plastic existence, then we agree on the nature of things. As for mortals being merely forces, this is a diminishment for what it means to be person. A person is not simply what they do, but what they intend as well. And intent never stays hidden. It is revealed in a person's satisfaction with the results of their actions. You killed Avertine. Are you satisfied with that result? Are you regretful? or are your reactions mixed, unclear? Are you motives mixed, acting as you say from both love of your own life yet also love of him who was once like a brother. Is not your individual action sufficiently distinct to see it's effect here? A man lies dead at your hand. One person can change the world, you certainly changed the world for Avertine. But yes, we are more than just ourselves, as we discussed earlier, our actions have manifold consequences beyond ourselves, not least in revealing our motives which may be judged for good or ill. I have no quibble with you judging me, I own my actions and will explain my intent to any who ask, as you have wanted to know. Nerwen continues gently but firmly, You are not my enemy. You never were. I did not take the field in fear of you or for love of the one pitted against you by your shadowy benefactor. But equally I will not accept a gift with strings or conditions. If you would benefit me because you recognise the truth of the words I have spoken or see me as a servant of the Gods, of the Quessir and all those who consider themselves people, then go ahead. Like you I do not know where the world will take me, but I will continue to defend those who cannot defend themselves. If you would bless me, do so. But unlike Alexis I cannot consider you a friend or fellow worker until your regret is expunged and your buisness with that shadowy entity is completely concluded. I will not be beholden to you or him as to the use of anything you give me. And if you value my word, extend such care as you would bestow on me to my companion Matthias also, if he accepts. I have seen his intent as we have travelled together, I judge it to be good.
  24. JimB, I can't see the first link.Changed devices. As for XX, Nerwen burned 5 ether to heal him, though we haven't seen his stats yet, so who knows what effects near-death has had on him. Dannie Darko is my wife's favourite movie. I'd forgotten about this scene! Ta for the reminder. @Zeph, not seen Donnie Darko? Aren't you a film student?!? Everyone will understand if you go afk for a couple of hours and rectify this shocking lapse in your education!
