Nerwen nodded at Sarick's stragegic decision, though she was lightly amused that he'd said Knifk, the name of the Orc from their previous quest rather than Cronk. Perhaps to the Naga, all orcs looked the same. She spoke up. Would anyone else like to be healed before battle? -

Nerwen's distracted thoughts mean her swing goes wide again. Thankfully the flash of angelic protection again saves her from harm. But now the glitter that accompanied the presence of the guardian spirit was gone. Nerwen focused on the vampire bat once again, attacking from the back row. -

Seeing the shimmering field of angelic protection deflect the bat as it swooped in for a bite, Nerwen shifted her grip on Celebryon's Peace and quickly looked around. Though some of the does had fallen, there were still plenty to go around. She swung again at the vampire bat from the back row, imagining as she did so, standing beside a tall blonde nord who would effortlessly dispatch the bat and then turn his smoldering gaze back to her. -

Day Three Although simply throwing Aladdin under the lymch bus might have been the smarter play, the fwar was ut would give town a new centre after the death of Cinderella as it would reveal Hood and Snow's trustworthyness. So,the plan was to have Al come out first and claim cop or that he knew the cop. Trying to make hoods claim seem scummy. The thread shows the information fed to Jack, that he was seen as scum, in part because of the axe. There was also a message to rabbit telling him that he was 'Mushu'. By telling them these pieces of imformation (which were true but lacked context) the aim was to foster distrust of Hood/snow and trust of Aladdin. In Jacks case it worked somewhat, in rabbit's there was no discernible reaction. It was likely too much to hope for a lynch of hood once she claimed and I still didn't want to give myself away as scum. I had meant to supply Al with more inside info fror him to fake up some PMs with Cindy supporting his claims, but in between timezones and failing to find good material Al was left hanging. Once voting started I stepped in aiming at Snow, which was likely the moment that experienced watchers saw my true colours. Snow defended herself and said she still trusted me... Her reverence for Flipz' trust in me carried me through. I made some excuse about my accusation being meant to draw out the scum and Snow created the 'alliance' a group pm with me, her, hood and mermaid. Now I was in three seperate pm groups, the scum; the circle (puss, witch and I) and the alliance. The only two not covered? Jack and rabbit who I was happy to foster distrust of. Although the plan was to force a non-lynch, I was still surprised when it happened. And more surprised it didn't compromise my position as a trusted townie. As others have said, the non lynch here is probably where the town lost the game. Jack You were my first PM contact, and your blind spot was your relief at not being scum. When I said I was feeling the same you never questioned it. Aside from that you played well. It was a function of timezones that meant I was slow at responding to your questions and a matter of circumstance rather than scumminess that meant you were smeared as untrustworthy on day three among the groups I was in. And your death at night was for strategic reasons, you innocence was meant to reflect well upon Aladdin, who'd been openly supporting you. Red Riding Hood Man, you had a sucky job, walking into a situation where you had a result to communicate while the scum knew your role and result and were working against you. You played well, always calm and to the point. If I had to be careful in the circle, it was doubly so in the alliance. I felt if I said one wrong word, you might have been onto me. I look forward to seeing you in a whole game, preferably on the same side! Snow WhiteEarly on I thought you were the doctor, and I also wondered if you didn't trust me, you came across as cold and distant in PMs. You said that was just because you were a bit distracted and naturally taciturn. This mean you were, for me, the hardest player to work out. I was never sure his much of the game you had a grip on and what you were thinking. Your trust in me seemed to be second hand, you trusted me because Cindy did. My attack on you was blatant and I was very surprised you didn't call me on it. I think you got better as the game went on and your staunch support of Hood could have seen the scum come undone. Well played! -

Nerwen nods at Xander's words, the barbarian was thinking clearly about the battle. I believe I am also less likely to be addled by the bat if my strike misses, so I will target Vampire Bat from the back row Nerwen raises her hammer to swing at the flying vermin. -
Mafia School: A Bedtime Story - Conclusion

Night Two I feel like I'm hogging the airwaves here and certainly don't want to be seen as gloating. This process lets me get out a lot of stuff I had to hide. Often a town win is read as a badly played game by the scum. In this case I don't want a scum win to suggest (too much) that the good guys played badly. Anyway, after day two we knew two power roles were dead and we not only knew the other two but had someone close to them. The rest of the town wasn't fully organized. But there was a looming scum result on Aladdin. The plan was to kill Hood, silencing the cop and the result on Al, then use the mislynches of Goldie and Pino and the direction of Bear at Wolf to lynch Cindy. But then the wheels fell off.Sandy replaced Lord of the Fries with Kadabra. Happily Kadabra didn't have LotF's PMs which would have exposed my scumminess, but he did have the result on Aladdin. Since I couldn't approach Kadabra in the same way we needed to sow confusion and dissention. I asked Aladdin to PM Kadabra, being chummy and letting him know that his role was known. This was meant to panic Kadabra and cause him to mistrust his result. By then Cindy had contacted Kadabra and been passed the both the result and that Aladdin knew the role. One of them had to go tonight, and I chose Cindy, as I indicated in the post before. Aladdin you were in some ways, the opposite of RPGer, very chatty in the bad guys thread. And bouncing around all over the day threads too. The role-playing at the start messed with people's heads some and gave you a scummy feel which you could never quite shake. You listened to stuff I said in thread and mostly went along with it, especially when it came to keeping you alive. It would have been cool to be a little more on the front foot on day 3, and some of that is because I didn't come through with a fully worked strategy, but you were always positive and didn't give up when the lynch was running hot against you. -

Day Two Day two was explosive. Such a fun ride. Sure, Cindy had pointed me in the right direction, but as she well knew, she hadn't told me anything specific. I'd made guesses from her hints. Clearly I wasnt the traitor. Moreover I seemed like a sensible, interested and smart townie she could bounce ideas off. So straight up she gave out that she was the doc. Knock me down with a feather... Ballsy play from a role that can't protect itself. Then Cindy asks for help thinking about the traitor. The irony was delicious. To be honest, I really didn't need to add much spin at all. At the time I believed that Goldilocks really was guilty of blocking Cinderella, since I had two assurances from Rapunzel that she'd targeted Snow. Perhaps it was this belief that made me credible, who knows. Flipz plays were tremendously enjoyable. I did tell him I laughed out loud at one of them, I didn't say which one or why though. At one point, an audience member asks Cindy "what if the scum thought Bear was the doc" and she dismisses it out of hand. But that's exactly what I thought. I got some strange looks from others on the train when I burst out laughing at that. At some point during the 'day' I exchanged PMs with Lord of the Fries. Because I don't seem scummy he just straight out tells me Aladdin is scum. I ask him if he's the cop and he says yeah. So, I dive straight in and ask him not to tell Cindy or anyone this, I want to pump Aladdin for info, besides the lynch is set on Goldilocks. If it'd been nearly anyone else I would not have got away with such a scummy ploy. It's about the that he drops out, I'm happy that he doesn't spill the beans. In fact he doesn't post at all, life I guess. I hope it wasn't that he over-read my request not to say anything to anyone. Meanwhile I'm chatting with Puss and Witch and they're wanting to aim for Rapunzel, and fair enough. Playing Cindy's ally, I encourage them to go for Goldilocks instead. Although Hood had penalty votes, I warned the scum not to vote there, since hammering a penalized player is just too obivous(see day 4!). The day ends reasonable promptly. We've just lynched another town, we know who the power roles are and both are listening to me, life is good at this point. It can't last. Goldilocks I've talked a bit about luck so far, you just got the brown end of the stick here. Once Flipz had decided you were it, rightly or wrongly he was going to have you. In previous games of mafia it seems you've gotten flustered and offended when accused. Perhaps it's a guilty conscience from Circus mafia. In any case, you didn't do yourself any favors with your reaction to Flipz' calling you out and it was easy for me to twist some of what you said to look much worse than it was. You attempted frame of Rabbit was odd, especially with the heat on you. Your pointing the finger at Chatming was equally weak(despite his actually being a scum) and whilst I had Flipz' ear it was never going to fly. If you'd pointed to Rapunzel you might have squeaked out, but really you were just buried by Flipz' walls of text. White Rabbit I'm going to talk about you here, not because you did anything particular on day two, or even because you were lined up as Goldie's partner in scumminess under the code name Mushu. Really I'm talking about you here because you didn't seem to much all game. You made occasional good contributions in thread, but you were one of the few that I didn't have a sustained conversation with. I'm sure that you had other good conversations I don't know about, I'd love to hear your account, but all in all, there's a reason why you could be framed as scum right up to day four. And that shows you weren't one of the town stand outs. You weren't blatantly scummy though, so from where I sat you did ok. Cinderella Don't beat yourself up too much. I'm sure by now you've had a master class from Def and Hinkley taking your game apart. I wouldn't presume to give feedback that could compare with theirs. I want to focus on how much fun you were to play with. You were a commited, vocal and enthusiastic townie. And there's a reason players like that are the scourge of scum's everywhere. You railed about upon hearing the scum result night one was luck. You dismissed that possibility in the game and that blinded you to Goldie's innocence (and my possible guilt). Luck really does play a big part in these games and can destroy the best laid plans. I'll talk about the night you were killed next and not here, but playing as you were, you were going to die early, especially as one of the only noisy townies. One of the best moments we had was when you (prompted by Jack) asked me if I was a schemer. Finally I felt like I could come clean, well as clean as I could get anyway. I'll post that snippet of our pms in a bit. In the end, you died at night rather than being lynched (and you were soooo lynchable) simply because you asked me to just kill you if I were scum. Take the fact that I did (and did it personally) as a mark of respect for an honored opponent. -

Night One Night one was rough. I hadn't read the part of the rules that said night would be 48 hours. Plus, although it was a school game and we shouldn't expect anything super weird, there was still a great many unknowns. As I said before the targets that I suggested for the scum team were guesses. Informed guesses, but guesses nonetheless. Plus I had Cindy buzzing away in PMs asking about vig targets. Because of the day's play, all three of my scum team mates names had come up as suspicious, I wondered if I'd been a little too blatant in PMing some people or massaging Cindy for info. As it was the town did score night one, with a scum result on Aladdin. And we got lucky, as I laid out previously, when the block target was shifted from Snow to Cindy meaning we could take out the vig and seething up Flipz's implosion on day two... RPGer ah mate. You were truly the scummy scum. Originally Sandy set up a group PM for the scum. Accidentally or deliberately, Rapunzel dropped out of it. Getting information out of you was a hassle (granted I sometimes came across as a right Megablock) and you flat out lied to me about who you blocked night one. On at least a couple of other occasions you didn't do what I asked. I could have handled that if you'd said in the chain, No I don't think we should, this is why, let's do this. But as it was sometimes it just felt like you were trying to get lynched and screw our game over. I probably took that a little too personal. If things had been otherwise I'd have thrown you under the lynch-bus without a second thought. I'm glad Sandy posted the actions, you do deserve credit for switching to Cindy, I just wish you'd told me. It would have made days 2 and 3 so much easier for us. -
Mafia School: A Bedtime Story - Conclusion
Chromeknight replied to Sandy's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
I signed up for the game because in my previous game is was scum and wanted a crack at being good. Since I trust that Sandy allocated the roles randomly, it's just one of fate's jokes that I was scum again. Day One It's all there in the thread, which makes interesting reading once you know who is which role, and the fact that everyone was told in their role PMs how many good/bad guys there were, some people clearly didn't read carefully. Most of the first day (2 and a half real days) was spent PMing people to begin networks. It's hard work, saying I want to trust you, trust me. Without coming across as scummy. Although how that's perceived really depends more on how paranoid the other person is. Threadwise there was not a lot to do, Cindy was bent on lynching Pinocchio. I threw around some other suspicions, which could have been seen either as avoiding the scummy bandwagon, or splitting the vote. Those accusations did draw out puss, who ended up being useful later in the game. By the end of the first day I'd PMd just about everyone, with mixed responses. Pinnochio I didn't have much to do with you and it seems you just drew the short straw. It's a fact of the game that someone has to be lynched day one and it's almost always town unless the scum are really stupid. Mind you, there were some valid scum targets that could easily have been lynched day one instead. You date was sealed by needing to be away with family for Easter. Big Bad Wolf a mix of luck and playing style saw your game end early. As bear said above, Aladdin was almost the target. I can't remember if I had much effect steering Cinderella away from him to you, but Cinderella's impression of you was the same as mine. You are not very trusting. Whilst that's somewhat a good thing in Mafia, Mafia is a team game and you do need to play well with others. If you don't trust people, then some who don't understand your playing style will read that as you can't be trusted. And if they are or know the vig, you become a target. Vig-killed twice on the first day is not a good habit! Your warning to Cindy about Jack, Goldie and I was based purely on metagame and Flipz was right to dismiss it. Your unluckiness was that, it confirmed me somewhat, but in my case was actually true. Puss in Boots My accusation of you was mostly to lay the foundation for possible later play, Your response had me on the back foot, quoting your PM from Sandy. You could have modified bits just to see if I reflected it unthinkingly... But you didn't. And so you swallowed my 'proof' without thought. This demonstrates why quoting the host is outlawed in threads and frowned upon in PMs. It just wrecks the gameplay if it's as easy as that for town to get together. Strangely, later in the game you were questioning Aladdin, who did the same thing. And yes, I provided your post for him to copy and suggested it. As you can guess I was also the one who complained to Sandy about your use of it. Hypocritical I know, since I'd benefited from it. Other than that you were a solid player who was involved, I always had to scrutinize what I said in the circle with you and Witch and Cindy. -

Poor Flipz. You've had to be very patient. I will post a full rundown later but the answer (as unsatifying as it is, is luck) As you can see from Sandy's list of night actions it was RPGer who blocked you, not Darth Nihilus. Near the end of the first day you said that if you died, trust Bear and Goldie. At that point I took a running jump to some conclusions. I'd decided that you must be vanilla, or at least no the doctor. But since you'd been noisy enough to attract the attention of power role players, they were the ones I was being told to trust. Well, actually I thought Snow was the cop and bear was the doc. The plan was to block the cop and kill the doc, figuring if the vig was out there he'd likely kill a townie first night. Then two things... My analysis was wrong and would have bounced on your protection of bear But RPGer decides to block you instead... Dumb luck. The following day he said twice he blocked Snow, I was convinced Darth Nihilus had gone of reservation and didn't trust you. Perhaps that made my whispered analysis more convincing. More later, I promise. -

IIRC, Charming took the kill night four. Not that it makes a huge difference. Thanks everyone. It was an interesting game, with some hairy twists for us, which I'll comment on later. For now, to Snow, who saw through the mask at the end, well done! And to many others, especially Lord of the Fries, whom I ruthlessly used, causing Flipz to think some very bad thoughts about, I'm sorry! Big thanks to Sandy for a very fun and beautifully presented game, my only quibble is needing to wake up at 3am to vote on day four, but that's the way things go, and noone's fault. I'll write a detailed breakdown of the game from my(our) point of view in a while. Thanks again everyone! -
Suddenly the boy is back from the arena. Appearing as if by magic. Before Nerwen can speak, a ranger sitting at a nearby table yells incoherently and raises his weapons. Nerwen decides that the situation is no good for marshalling the ether required for her upcoming quest and, while the Brobric is distracted, slips quietly out of the hall. Does anyone play brickwars?
Chromeknight replied to Durins Bane's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
I've played quite a lot of brikwars (see the STUDS stuff on the brikwars site). But not anytime recently. The rules are fun, but overly complex in places. And they quicky degenerate into a mass of in-jokes and house rules that are impenetrable for newcomers. Plus, they've been promising an update for more than two years... There are plenty of other good rulesets out there, our gaming group is currently using "Song of Blades and Heroes". It is, in my opinon, much better for medieval/fantasy wargaming. You can see some AAR pictures at http://www.flickr.com/photos/80685200@N00/ I too am hanging out for LotR minifigs! -
Nerwen was speaking quietly with an intriguing elvish aeromancer at the bar and in the long, companionable pauses that are part of elvish speech patterns, mentally tallying her requirements for the coming quest, as well as reflecting on the most recent chapter of her current trashy novella, involving a motley collection of characters living in a magic castle. Her meditations were interrupted by a grating voice speaking common with a village accent. Turning to see who would address her in such a way, she sees a young boy. After momentarily processing the sword, shield and gems that mark him as a swordmage her gaze travels to his armor. She stiffens in affront, her hand clasping around a table knife that was sitting on the bar nearby, now held at readiness by her side. She hisses her words in obvious tension. Brobric! Traitorous arrogant scum! And such a boy? You are the one who wrote? Thinking to lure me to my death? Bah. You could never have planned something like that, you are but a weanling. Surely you are but the tool of another. Perhaps even that snake Belril... Nerwen lapses into a stream of elvish, clearly by the tone, insulting. Arasmyth, nearby, although not understanding all the referents, catches enough to start in surprise at the language coming from the previously placid cleric. She pauses, sucking breath to curse further when a decrepit old man in brown rags catches the young elf's arm and begins babbling at him. The rebuffed supplicant turns away and heads to the arena. Clearly whatever suit he would persue or defense he would make to Nerwen's accusations was not nearly as important as playing with the capering fool who had drawn his attention. With his leaving, Nerwen's tension drains slowly. Returning to the conversation with Arasmyth, she apologizes for her rudeness. And orders a stiffer drink to numb her mind from the memories now cascading across it.

I come from the just above the northern borders of Barresh. And yes, I am a cleric of Galadrya and Celeborn. As noisy and violent as the city is, within it are places of order and civilization. The library here at Heroica Hall being a notable example. I have, though, spent some months in the monestery of Sem beyond the walls of the city. I went for the feast of Sem and the turning of year and ended up staying for a while meditating. My last quest left me with some very personal questions. I was on an aborted quest with the Naga and the fat paladin, and now I'm preparing to quest with the Naga and the Orc paladin to Dastaan. It seems Celebryon's will that I learn patience and humility from travelling with them. And yourself? Where are you from and what path lead you to be an Aeromancer? It is a pleasure meeting you. I hope we have a little more time to talk before I must leave. OOC: http://www.grey-comp...uage/phrase.htm

It's Rapunzel's hair! In various shots I'd seen a string of tan 1x1 cones. I couldn't work out what it was and figured it was just part of the castle. Then in the shot of Rapunzel and Rabbit getting sloshed it clicked. It's Rapunzel's hair! -
knowing today is a big day with three quest parties being announced, Nerwen slips quietly into the hall. Her path is broken briefly as she pauses to let a small dark robed hero scuttle by on hand s and knees, squeaking, it seemed, about a mouse he'd seen. It certainly wasn't the strangest thing she'd seen in the hall. Perching on a bar stool with water cup in hand she surveyed the room...

Sort of, yes. A little way into my first (only! ) quest it became clear that Nerwen is quite bossy, especially around those younger or with less experience in a situation. But then a friend pointed out that might not be simply Nerwen's problem. Oh, she's good with languages too. I hadn't originally planned for that.
