I did not say that CAD is less creative than real bricks, if you read my original comment it is clear that I say CAD gives unlimited creativity, as no one is limited to what physical bricks they can afford to buy. I was just stating that I do not see any actual building going on here, as you seem to agree by the rest of your post.

At no point did I say that a MOC needs 'advanced' building techniques. Although I did infer that some degree of building with Lego might be associated with a MOC. For sure, every member has a right to post, but equally every member is entitled to respond. In this case as a member, I responded. Does it really matter what the subject of this so called MOC is? My comment was not a value judgment upon 'advanced' or 'simple' building techniques, more that no building techniques are actually visible in this post.

Firstly I want to say that I am not being difficult here. But this looks like you have spent half an hour (at the most?), posing minifigs in a CAD program. Lego CAD gives unlimited creativity, no one is constrained by a physical collection, as I see it this 'creation' is essentially spam.

I think that if you are already creating your own graphics then you don't need to consider the whole 'purism' debate. Printing them onto material sounds like it would look good.

I just tried the program and it worked for me. Maybe your PC is not configured correct? Java or RAM problems? If no one here can help you get it installed and working properly, I could generate the image, instructions and parts list for you. Message me if you don't have any luck, and we can arrange how you want it. It could be your source file is .svg (which is vector?), and that program needs bitmap or .jpg to work?

You could try PicToBrick. Good Luck.

You have his address, you have an arsenal of BB pellet guns, he has your Lego. This is serious business. -
Welcome, pour yourself a nice cold glass, and enjoy the forums!

A disturbing trend has developed in my White Cheese Slopes..

Those parts look in really bad shape, and you should definitely be getting in contact with Lego Customer Service, so they can resolve the problem for you. -
OpenStreetMap Lego city?

I think this would be a really good idea, but I really don't know how feasible it would be? Would you not have serious technical problems rendering such huge files? If it was based up 32x32 plates (for the roads?), then people select either a 32x32, or 32x16, on which to build a property, then surely the file to render would be massive? I assume the file would be updated say every day or week and then rendered? Also once rendered is the image just one view, or is it like a 3D model that the visitor can navigate (within reason)? But if these technical problems are solvable, then it does sound great, the only problems would be that it would create a 'flatland', which doesn't retract that much from the project, given its benefits. If you were going to use 32x32 roadplates, maybe have community votes to decide future directions, and then votes to decide zones of development (a bit like simcity). Instead of building on baseplates, maybe people build on plates and this would allow tiled pavements, and better use of space in the more developed central areas. -
I think you both need to seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Making those boxes available for sale would be achievable, as they are obviously packaging these for supply to the retail walls, and the S@H PAB distribution centre will be supplied (although this maybe in larger shipments than the k box?). Presumably dispatching bulk boxes would require little labour, which would reduce the element price for S@H PAB. But being cynical, I don't really think that the AFOL market (which k boxes would be for - i doubt many kids would be that excited by 2000 tan cheese slope) operates within a capitalist model. They have a monopoly over the adults. So knowing that we will buy the product anyway (directly or through a third party BrickLink shop which is parting out sets), they might not want to give all the good bricks away to easily.
-
That seems very expensive (exaggeration?) for postage from one shop unless you are buying a very heavy package? Lego selling all available elements in all colours is probably the holy grail of the AFOL. But having watched that documentary about Lego factories the infrastructure and investment to make that happen would be insane. More realistically would be that they started to sell bulk brick packs again, but I can also see that by selling them they potentially undermine more lucrative sales.

First you need to make a 'Wanted List' in BrickLink that contains all the parts (in the correct quantities) that you will need. I have always done this manually by using superkalles LDD Manager Program, but perhaps the wantedbricks program will do this automatically for you (although I have never used it). Once you have all the bricks in your 'Wanted List' you need to select 'By Shop' in the BrickLink 'Wanted' tab, this will put the shop that has the most lots at the top of the list (although of course they may not be the cheapest). It is worth browsing the first five or so shops to get the best value. Your main aim now is to get the majority of your 'Wanted List' crossed off. It is very unlikely you will manage to get all your items in one shop (especially if you need specialty/ rare elements), and you have to balance postage charges also (sometimes it is worth paying more per element for a specific item if it saves you having to place another order in a different shop). BrickLink does not automatically delete items from your list once you have bought them, so you need to edit the list after your purchases. It will definitely consume both your Time and your Money though!

What's your favourite feature of 2011 from TLG?

Another vote for the return of the pitchfork from me, plus I am generally looking forward to the new civilian torsos from the summer Kingdoms sets. Another highlight will be the reddish brown 1x4x3 windows from the Creator Lighthouse. The collectible minifig I am most looking forward to is probably the Cave Woman, although Cleopatra comes very close. Although I won't buy a lot from the Alien Invasion theme, it looks fun. All in all I am very content with what Lego have planned for the year. -
Those lights you are using, do they need to be a special type of bulb? Or does any bright (and unnatural) light work as long as it gets filtered through the white paper?

The roof looks very smooth A lot of plate roofs end up with gaps, the plate with rails totally smooths them and looks perfect . Maybe instead of using bricks on the gable ends, use more plates to suggest the steel structure? Also on the bottom you have two round 2x2 stacked, above these the inverse slope looks great, but instead of ending it with a 1x2 brick, bridge the gap with more reddish brown bricks to suggest large timber beams which support the floor?

I think LuxorV's Banner 1 is particularly well designed, mainly how the 'Eurobricks Forum Blog' text is contained within the yellow rectangle graphic which of course relates to the original films. Maybe the text could have been slanted to mimic the way the text scrolls in the films? Also the two ships in this one seem to me to represent the most iconic images from the films.
