  1. This is great, some serious overkill going on here... I think measuring the distance the flying dummy travels, would give some kind of indication of exactly how catastrophic the crash actually was?
  2. begins every good fairy storey... I very much doubt anyone who obtained these would jeopardize thier special agreement, by revealing information would they?
  3. This at first glance might seem to be a rather creative interpretation of a 'Town' setting, and for sure Lego is a medium of creative expression. But I would in fact argue that this is a 'Town' setting. But our scene takes place perhaps 500,000 years before what we might consider the essential characteristics of a 'Town' began to be constructed, by this man's descendents... Sorry for spamming the thread, and I completely understand if you disqualify this, and then proceed to hunt me down.
  4. Happy Birthday. But you realise you have only two years left untill your life starts to ebb away into that dreaded middle age. Trust me enjoy the next two years, they will go so quick. And you will face the nightmare of your 30th, one minute i held my head up as a part of the youth, the clock ticked and then i had to admit i was not twenty something anymore, instead i had to face up to that deadfull admission... Your youth snatched away by the cruel hands of time. So not wanting to put any dampener on your day at all, enjoy yourself! ... (while you can)
  5. This is absolutly gorgeous. I remember hours of fun with the original classic town set, and this is a rightfull remake of such a fun set. I find the 2010 release much to massive, and this is just perfect. It brings the set into a more realistic '6 wide' exisetence, but does not dwarf passing buildings... To be honest I had ignored the new set, it just seemed to big. But now i can see myself buying it, and taking much inspiration from this to relive some happy childhood memories.
  6. Months at least... I have about zero time at the moment, although that will soon change for a short period. So i have to budget my play time, i love to MOC, so given a choice of a free afternoon, i decide to play with my Lego. Admitedly nothing gets finished, and the next week I am bored of last weeks attempt, so i try something new. But it is pure relaxation for me, so i am happy. Although it did not take me long to rip open my Prince of Persia sets and build them, because they seemed very exciting for me. Which brings me onto these, I hold my hands up, and admit I was one of the propherciers of doom when it came to the blind packaging. But when i bought some last week (random choices) i was genuinly excited. And to be fair now i have to admit that exceitement is maybe part of the fun with these. I was very tempted to open them up straight away, but held out into i got home.
  7. I think you are missing the point here, whilst arguably unreasonable, the pricing on different 'markets' can be justified. What i think is a scandal, is that a 'market', ie: the 'Euro Zone', has wide discrepancy. I very much doubt it could be argued that countries within the 'Euro Zone' have particular internal dynamics, which would mean that pricing should be tiered.
  8. I think this is a scandal. Fair enough that different regions have thier own pricing structure (US/ASIA/EUROPE?). But it is outragous that certain countries within Europe are ripped off in this manner. I understand Ireland, and the scandinavian countries pay a premium for thier Lego. I do not know the intricacies of Internal Tax Regulations, and i understand that delivery cost may be slightly higher to ship thier. But realisticly Poland is right next door to the central European warehouse, where as a UK buyer, my Lego is shipped from. I have every sympathy for the Polish Lego Fan, and am more than a bit sceptical that a question asked by the Lego Ambassodor in March, did not get a response 2 months later. At the end of the day as Europeans, we live in a so called 'Euro Zone', one of the key principles of this is the alledged benefit of free trade. Perhaps many Polish Lego Fans, cross the border into Germany and take advanatage of fair prices, perhaps others have thier Lego delivered to them from Germany. But that is not the point here, it is not unreasonable that Lego prices in the Euro area are comparitive, given internal tax and delivery costs.
  9. It is never to late to get into Pirates! I had my first ever Pirates set this time last year, i had Town as a kid, and i ended up giving all my Lego away about ten years ago... Anyway, this probably rests upon if you are a Set Collector, or prefer to MOC. If you like to collect and display sets, then the 2009 line is relativley sparse. You could easily pick up all those sets if you searched for them, then perhaps look into getting hold of the 90's sets. So as a Set Collector you will soon collect the Theme Run, but as you say, expansion will be limited. Or it you prefer to MOC, then you will easily obtain a nice selection of Minifig's and Pirate Specific Pieces from buying a few sets, and heading towards BrickLink. Obviously either way make your choice quickly, possibly you may pick up end of line clearance bargains, but i am sure there are many Pirate Deprived Fans who will clear those shelves as soon as they sense the Final Reduction... I have to say Lego Pirates are great fun, they are so full of character. I dont think you would be dissapointed if you decide to branch out into Pirates, the sets are all excellent, and if you like to try to MOC then you will have great fun messing about with them.
  10. This is a great thread, i dont get to read much fiction anymore, but i used to really enjoy the classic sci-fi authors. I thought this was an interesting and thought provoking tale, although i found the style a little dry. Just the right length for a quick diversion. Im not sure if this was supposed to be analytical thread, but the concept of this was quite intriguing. In that once the 'Gods' are revealed as 'Men', then it was thought possible to rebuild their works. My thought was perhaps that has significance for post-enlightenment industrial society. How important was the realization that no 'God' exists? Did that influence the course of science, and our subsequent manipulation and transformation of the world?
  11. This is great, i hope you find the time to continue a little. The whole concept of a 'reasonable' amount of Lego is so relative, at first i was shocked when i realised that I had more Lego at the age of 30, when i did at the age of 12. But i justified that to myself in the sense that every kid now, has more Lego than I did at their age. But now I have more Lego than my niece and nephews, possibly their collections combined. Not quite sure how I justify that to myself yet, but am deffinetly working on it. This site helps in that respect, there are far more crazier people than me, my collection is insignificant when compared to other AFOL. Surely that gives justification to not stop yet...
  12. this looks great, and you have filled it full of life. the artist upstairs is a great touch. but just one question, why did you choose to use a flesh face for the waitress serving at the counter?
  13. but i thought that the brown hair and a grey beard dont really go that well togethor. not so visible in the pic due to my photographic inabilities, but unless the guy is dying his hair and not his beard, then might look a little strange? there is no way to hide the double sided head with any of the headgear i could think of. tried with the conquistador helmet, but it does not hide anything. i think the daston hair might work better with other heads though, its certainly an excellent new option with uses from castle through pirates and into town. and on the right is an indy hair piece, i thought that might be suitable, as a unkempt pirate. but on the other hand almost looks beatle esque!
  14. a great article, and certainly food for thought. for sure there is a certain excitement about buying the new releases as soon as possible, i could not resist the lure of Prince of Persia. as soon as i could order i did, and was not dissapointed in the least. some of the best money i spent on Lego. but i also like the search, or wait, for the discount. nothing is more satisfieing than to get 33% off especially if the store sell at MSRP, of course a bigger discount equals more satisfaction. if i see a really good discount then i sometimes buy sets that im not particulary interested in, but usually i can find at least one set that i want. Like CP5670, i tend to have a few unopened sets around through lack of time, to build or sort them. they are good to avoid the impulse buy of a full priced set, i say to myself i do not need to buy that yet, i have enough sets at home to build. so my that crave to build something from instructions can be satisfied through them.
  15. that looks great, by the look of your to do list you might need another table soon. i bet you have loads of fun play time. obviously i mean im sure your kid has loads of fun play time!
  16. and that didnt do any lasting harm... seriously, i dont think i choked on a piece as a child, and as an adult i am very carefull to follow the warnings that the Lego company helpfully provide on the instructions.
  17. There is a Classic Castle Tutorial, which will provide good inspiration. Obviously you need a good amount of slope bricks. I personally like a mix of dark and light bleys, but maybe it is best to go for one colour? I think you just need to keep attempting it, and make sure you are building a strong framework behind the slopes. The last think you want is a nice formation to work, but then it collapses as you put the finishing touches to it! This type of technique is pure trial and error, as you attempt to create a 'random' natural effect. I think as long as what you build does not look to uniform (all slopes going the same way), then you are heading towards the right way. Maybe it is best to attempt to set limits on certain pieces (i have used slope 1 x 2, so now I have to use inverted)? Landscape is something i really like to attempt, maybe because as a child I could not even imagine building landscape, we did not have the natural colours avaiable.
  18. Not really a Sale, but Argos are starting to stock Prince of Persia. You need to search LEGO PRINCE OF PERSIA, but they have all the sets, at the right price.
  19. Welcome to Eurobricks. I am sure it will be worth the trip to find out if they do (i'm hoping they do), and to see what kind of selection the shop has. Realisticly if you are building a Technic project the PAB wall will not supply much usefull for you, as Milan says. But any information about what they are selling there will be welcomed by the Lego Retail Deprived of the North West! Im in north wales so is very feasable for me to get there. Anyway good luck with your project.
  20. Thanks for the reminder to check Amazon in the UK sales thread, I had been checking everday but began to loose hope. They work out cheaper than Shop @ Home with Super Saver Delivery. But finally Lego Prince of Persia will soon be in my hands: The Ostrich Race Fight For The Dagger Hassans Hide Out
  21. What exactly are you suggesting here? On a more serious note these are available in UK at Argos, and Tesco. But im quite happy hugging ABS MiniFigs for now.
  22. Some kind of highly intensive computer, that is so intense that it appears to be translucent to the human eye? Maybe the way it is constructed from dreaded Click Hinges means that it was never to be opened? Seriously now I am still loving this set, my first Star Wars Space Ship (i have helped nephews with countless, but this is my own!). But even better it has ignited an intrest in attempting to build a MOC sci-fi craft (unsuccessfull so far, but i luv the passion that I have when I try my hand at it). So it is for that reason, very subjective i agree but I am in awe of this set, i feel 20 years younger as I try to build something of my own, but inspired by this set.
  23. Sainsbury's have 25% off all toys in store, it can be hit and miss on what stock they have (mine do not match up to Tesco selection), but if you have a decent one nearby it might be worth having a look.
  24. You might get some inspiration from this topic. A clear tile would really improve the copier.
  25. This is the set I am least interested in, although it does look a bit better in the review than how I had thought about it. I will buy this just for parts, lots of Dark Tan, and some Medium Nougat in usable 1x2's.
