I don't think they can use characters from Tolkien's books if they don't appear in the movies.

REVIEW: 76052 Batman™ Classic TV Series – Batcave
Blondie-Wan replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Licensed
Huh. I, on the other hand, am not a particularly big fan of the '60s show and movie, but I do think this set is pretty sweet. I guess I'm not as harsh a judge as the reviewer. Oh, well. Sadly, I'm sure I won't be able to afford several other D2Cs that are higher on my priority list, let alone this one, but I would certainly like to have it. -
Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion

To me, not particularly. They're consistent with the general LEGO aesthetic. It's actually one of the defining features of this series - all the human (or human-featured) characters' visual designs have been "translated" into more of a "general" LEGO minifigure aesthetic, as opposed to most other LEGO minifigures based on animated characters, which usually have more stylization in accord with the source material (such as the specially-molded heads for all The Simpsons characters or the "human" Toy Story characters in the main Toy Story line, or the stylized face prints on the Star Wars: The Clone Wars characters).- 4,155 replies

I don't think so, actually, based on what I've seen of Axl. You mean using these figures (or parts thereof) with fleshtone figures from other licensed lines? I think they'd work fabulously, if the outfits and such fit what you're doing.- 4,155 replies

In a D2C? Death Star had 24 minifigures. Other than that, there's always Chess sets and stuff. They've had Community Workers sets with as many as 31 minifigures, as well.

Not Hulk-sized, no, but a little bulkier than a regular minifigure - like Axl in Nexo Knights. The two series for The Simpsons have a couple characters in regular fleshtones as well, of course.- 4,155 replies

Oh, unquestionably, but this is a wishlist thread, not a "guess what's actually coming" thread. Anything goes. If one wanted 50+ different characters from the Dexter Riley movies, or an entire wave devoted to John Carter, that'd be a legitimate option, even though there's no way it would ever happen. Borex included a bunch of Star Wars characters. They wouldn't be included in a blind-bagged series at all and even if they were, wouldn't be included in a Disney series, but they are Disney-owned characters now, so they fit the parameters of the thread. It's all about what we'd like, with nothing to do with what's possible. :)

I imagine if they ever do sets for The Incredibles (which is quite possible - there's a sequel coming, after all), they might revisit him as a bigfig.- 4,155 replies

I don't think that would work. For one, this head is too specifically, clearly recognizable as Donald; Howard's appearance has varied extensively over the years, but it's never been entirely Donald-like. For another, it's just too large. For this series, the figures are at different scales, which is fine for a Minifigures series, but if they were going to do Howard, they'd surely design him for use with other, existing Marvel figures.- 4,155 replies

Not at all; I hope to get them all myself. The only reason I might not is that my funds for LEGO in general have diminished lately, but I hope to change that.- 4,155 replies

Not from the looks of it. All the front row characters with accessories should have them clearly visible. For that matter, we should also be able to at least glimpse all the back row accessories as well - the second lamp, the "Drink Me" bottle, etc. If Pluto were here, there's no way we'd miss him.- 4,155 replies

Probably; I definitely wouldn't expect to see as many of the same characters shared between series as The Simpsons had. But I would expect to see one version or another of Mickey in every series.- 4,155 replies

It is though...he has boot printing and also a new torso Not to mention some of us would rather have it match the 2010 ones, anyway. I'm considering using this one with the ones I already have, as long as the torsos don't look too different (I'll have to wait until I see them together before I decide), but if I do, I'll want to at least make the legs match. That means I'll have to get either replacement short legs in plain blue to replace the ones that come with these, or get extras of these legs for all the ones I already have (which would be awesome, but probably difficult and/or expensive).- 4,155 replies

Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion

I will say I'm disappointed they don't have a higher number of female characters. I would have thought that if any Minifigures series was likely to have more than six or so, it would be the Disney series, but no, still only six ladies out of eighteen. Hopefully Series 2 will have more (just as The Simpsons Series 2 had twice as many as Series 1).- 4,155 replies

I try to get at least one of each figure from any given Minifigures series, and this will be no exception. As with The Simpsons, though, I doubt I'll get more than that, given that all but one are specific, unique, individual characters (though I might get multiples of a few exceptions for parts). The only one here I'd normally want a bunch of as-is is the Pizza Planet Alien (well, maybe that and Buzz, if I wanted to recreate the toy store scenes in Toy Story 2, but I already have almost two dozen PPAs (plus several copies of Buzz) from the 2010 line. I like these, I must say.- 4,155 replies

I imagine they will. They probably went with the traditional minifigure head for Buzz here because they wanted to distinguish it from the one(s) in the full-blown Toy Story theme, and it adhered to the logic they're using for this series (traditional heads for human or human-appearing characters, special molds for those with overtly non-human ones). I suspect the future Toy Story sets we'll (hopefully) get with the next movie will use the same molds for any / all characters returning from the 2010 sets, albeit probably with "updated" printing. The more I think about it, the less disappointed I am with the new Pizza Planet alien, since a) I really have plenty anyway, and b) it actually doesn't look as different as I thought at first. I think the biggest difference might be the dual molding / printing for the boots, which one might be able to fix by replacing legs. If so, I might be able to satisfactorily expand my PPA army with this, though again I don't need that many more anyway. I do think I understand why the PPA and Buzz are included, though. Toy Story is of course the iconic Pixar franchise, and while there have been sets, they were released six years ago (!) - not that long ago to you and me, but long enough for the entire generation of kids in TLG's core audience that got those sets to have entered their dark ages, while a fresh set of kids moves in to take their place. Buzz is perhaps the most popular character from the series. And while Woody would be the obvious natural pairing, the PPA might be seen as a good alternative choice, partly because it goes well with Buzz because of the space theming, and partly because it's the one character in this entire series that's an "army builder" as opposed to a specific, unique character, and it seems every Minifigures series tries to have at least one of those. And perhaps they're saving Woody for Series 2 along with Goofy. The PPA here can be great for those Toy Story fans who, unlike us, weren't able to get a bunch of PPAs in sets (which seems to be a fair number of people, judging from some of the responses in this thread). But that said, yeah, they're probably wastes of two slots for me personally, like they are for you... and yet I know I'll go ahead and get one of each anyway, just for completeness. Ah, the collector mentality...- 4,155 replies

I imagine it's the usual limitation on new molds for a single series. It seems higher for "CMFs" than for any other line or theme, but it's still there, and nearly every figure here has at least one new mold. They probably couldn't do Flounder, Abu, etc. without going over budget for the series. Multiples of a given accessory (whether existing or new) is hardly unusual for a Minifigures series, too; we've had them since the beginning, when the Forestman and the Tribal Hunter each carried the same bow and the same quiver, way back in Minifigures Series 1. That said, the dual lamps here do seem a bit odd, given that they're both apparently meant to be the same lamp...- 4,155 replies

So, this series does indeed have Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy, but no Goofy (and no Pluto, apparently). I'm guessing each series will have some but not all of the core "Mickey & friends" characters, probably always including a version of Mickey himself, and the other such characters will vary from series to series. I know we don't even have Series 1 yet and Series 2 will probably come out a full year later (if at all), but I'd bet there will indeed be a Series 2, and that it'll have Goofy along with "Sorceror's Apprentice" Mickey.- 4,155 replies

I've seen Minifigures being sold above MSRP at any number of places. And Disney does sell Disney-based LEGO sets, when available, at appropriate locales within the parks. I'm sure these will be there (at least for a brief period), and yeah, they'll probably be more expensive there, but perhaps not.- 4,155 replies

I think it's because a) the character seen on film has a somewhat heart-shaped face, much narrower at the chin than at the cheeks, quite unlike the uniform thickness of the typical propane-tank-shaped LEGO minifigure head, and b) movie Alice also has notably bright blue eyes, as opposed to the quintessentially LEGO black dots seen here. That said, I still like what I see of her, and i plan to get her along with everyone else.- 4,155 replies

Agreed, but assuming they do a Series 2 and use the same rules they're clearly using for this series, that's apparently what they'll do. Now I wonder also whether they'd still use the longer arms and legs, or go to normal-length ones...- 4,155 replies
