  1. Ok, I finally found where I'd seen the September 1st deadline (or at least one such place, anyway). It's on the LEGO CUUSOO blog: That's from a post on June 3 of this year. It seems to rule the Wizard of Oz project out of this batch and into the next one - but wait! A subsequent post (June 14) says this: Since this date comes from the more recent post, I presume it's more accurate. It appears the fall batch will include The Wizard of Oz, for a total of at least seven projects (that I know of): Female Minifigure Set ATLAS Mini Model FTL: Faster Than Light Ghostbusters Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Poptropica: Dr. Hare's Lair The Road to Oz Even combining the two Ghostbusters projects, that's still the largest group for a single review period yet... and they've yet to announce the results of the preceding three review periods, already featuring a combined total of nine projects.
  2. Very cool! Though I do have to wonder about TLG sanctioning a contest that was going to use "Pimp" in its name (did they know about that in advance?).
  3. Certainly. I think any limits they put on the number of CUUSOO sets introduced at the same time have more to do with the factory production schedules - allocation of resources, what parts need to be molded in what colors, etc.
  4. The more I think about it the less likely I think it is that they'll approve a maximum of only one project per review period on principle, regardless of how many worthy projects make the 10k mark that would otherwise get approved if they didn't have competition - after all, if they allowed themselves only one approved project per period no matter what, they wouldn't be still mulling the possibility of doing that Portal project that came in the same period as the Back to the Future one. That should mean there's at least a chance for more than one of these latest projects to get approved...
  5. It doesn't appear that there's a set point for that, Faefrost, judging from the numbers of votes at which some such projects were closed. ____________________ Say, does the September 1st cutoff for the review period mean only projects that have 10k votes by the beginning of Sept. 1 (and in what time zone?) get into that review batch, or by the end of the day? At the rate the Wizard of Oz project is getting votes (9694 at this writing, with at least the last few having appeared within the last several minutes), it appears that will make the difference for which batch of proposals it'll be in...
  6. I just posted this in Johan the Yellowhead's recent thread on custom movie poster stickers for this set, but this really should go here, too: I just today received the Fall 2013 Catalog (with the 10236 Ewok Village on the cover), and on page 23 it has the Palace Cinema, with a new little blurb that wasn't there in previous listings of the set - "Includes exclusive The LEGO Movie sticker, for a limited time only!"
  7. As it happens, I just today received the Fall 2013 Catalog (with the 10236 Ewok Village on the cover), and on page 23 it has the Palace Cinema, with a new little blurb that wasn't there in previous listings of the set - "Includes exclusive The LEGO Movie sticker, for a limited time only!" I hope there's a way those of us who already have the set can get this. My girlfriend, bless her, gave me 10232 for my birthday back in June, and I'm absolutely thrilled to have it (and to have such a wonderful and generous girlfriend) but I'd hate to miss out on the sticker...
  8. I wonder whether this thread shouldn't use "Acquisition" rather than "Purchase," so as to include stuff we get in trades, as gifts, etc.
  9. Probably not - that is, I'm sure there are others who think the same - but I don't know about that myself. I'd imagine he's aware of the vote-getting power of the IP (or any IP), and probably doesn't harbor illusions a non-Jurassic Park dinosaur project will garner votes as quickly as one tied to the movies... but that Tyrannosaurus rex is really too nicely done to just abandon if it can be submitted on its own. I don't see any reason not to give it a shot on its own, just in case, and I'd guess the builder is thinking the same. Why not, right?
  10. So do I, and I'd actually noticed that one myself and really liked it, though I hadn't gotten around to supporting it yet. I've just rectified that. I'm a bit annoyed with myself in that most of the projects I'd personally like to put up on CUUSOO are for IPs that would need licenses. I really do have broader interests than just stuff from movies and TV shows, I really do, but most of the things I'd really like to see released as official LEGO sets - things that would specifically benefit from that treatment, as opposed to just being MOCed out of random bricks or whatever - do seem to come from such sources. I do have a couple ideas beyond those, though; I'll have to submit them...
  11. Well, that's assuming they do approve only one set per review period. Don't they say they could approve more than one in a period, and simply put them into a production queue? Or am I misremembering something?
  12. I suspect kids who may have no pirates at all are a bigger consideration than we are when TLG is coming up with packs like this.
  13. Moreover, the Ewok Village is just now coming out, and large, expensive Direct-to-Consumer sets like it tend to stay around at least a couple years, as long as they're at least reasonably popular. I don't think you need to worry about not being able to get the Ewok Village at all if you don't get it this year; I fully expect it to stay around until at least 2015.
  14. Yes, it did, so maybe indeed. There's no guarantee, though, as with any CUUSOO project.
  15. Meanwhile, back to the stuff that's already been approved... When is the Curiosity rover supposed to come out? November 1st would be one quarter after the official release date of the Time Machine, but I don't remember seeing anything that indicates Curiosity will be here that soon.
  16. You're asking that here? A site specifically for adult fans of LEGO?? No, LEGO is for all ages - well, mainly for kids, sure, but not exclusively. If you enjoy it, build away, and don't pay any attention to what others say.
  17. So, if I want a "purist" build, can I still use this and an iPhone in a MOC since it's an official LEGO-branded item that's specifically designed for use with the iPhone? I mean, it's not fundamentally different from using non-LEGO batteries in a LEGO battery box, or non-LEGO water to float a LEGO boat hull...
  18. Say, if one gets a CUUSOO project approved and turned into a set, does one get one or more free copies of the set, or "just" the royalty (and the fame and glory )?
  19. Not to mention that there's a slew of other Ghostbusters projects on CUUSOO. I'd guess these two proposals only took as long as they did to get to 10,000 because they were competing against each other as well as against all those other GB proposals. I'm sure there are plenty of people who've chosen to support more than one of them, or even all of them, but undoubtedly there are also plenty who've voted for just one. I suspect the total number of CUUSOO voters who've voted for at least one Ghostbusters project is quite a bit higher than 10,000, though only TLG's CUUSOO team can really know for sure.
  20. That second project (actually the first submitted) has now garnered the 10000 votes. Whatever the outcome, TLG's CUUSOO team is at least getting an unambiguous message that people want official LEGO Ghostbusters.
  21. And now it's hit the mark! TLG's CUUSOO team will get a double dose of Ghostbusters next review.
  22. And now, at just 48 votes short as of this posting (it garnered three more votes just while I was writing this!), it appears very likely two Ghostbusters proposals will be up against one another in the same review period. I'm keen to see how it gets resolved (assuming TLG decides to approve a Ghostbusters set at all, of course - still no guarantee it'll happen, of course, but I do think the odds are good).
  23. 1. MOC the more-or-less complete adventures of Indiana Jones 2. MOC a City layout 3. MOC a Space layout 4. MOC a Castle layout 5. MOC a Wild West layout 6. MOC various Star Wars layouts 7. Visit LEGOLAND parks on other continents 8. Submit projects to LEGO CUUSOO 9. Attend a FOL convention 10. Do lots of cool stuff with Mindstorms 11. Make some brickfilms 12. Get my bricks sorted and organized, and a proper building / display area set up
  24. Well, each of the three is its own thing. The beach one has three minifigures exactly as they appear in the Minifigures ("CMF") line, the rock band one has three variations on them (using the prints / designs from the CMFs, but with different colors and a head swap or two), and the monsters one uses one of the "CMF" minifigures exactly as it had appeared there and another with different colors, alongside a third minifigure completely different from anything in the CMF line. TLG probably doesn't think of these packs as specifically representing the Minifigures ("CMF") line anyway; they're all just LEGO.
  25. I'm guessing it'll have a variety of sets touching upon all sorts of things LEGO has done at various times - many of which fall into some of the various theme categories EB uses (historical, sci-fi, pirates, etc.), and that most of the forums here will therefore get some sets they're excited about (while probably the entire line will qualify for "Action Themes"). I'm looking forward to seeing the movie itself and the sets it brings us. I think this will be a rare theme that offers something for nearly everyone here.
