  1. Oh, my goodness. I must have them. I simply must. I am half-inclined to pronounce The LEGO Movie the Greatest. Theme. Ever. I see a lot of posts here about people not wanting to have to pay for a Stubs membership. Am I the only EBer who already has one? My fiancée and I have shared one for years, and it's been great. Of course, we go to the movies at our local AMC often enough to make it worth it, but it absolutely has been. I do expect that my fiancée and I will each be able to get a DJ from buying our tickets, but I'll be sure to post here once we've gone that weekend... Man... These reports of sets on clearances, and now this? Jeez, the whole theme's been out a month. I can't believe it's going away already (especially with the actual movie still not even out yet). I would certainly think (and hope!) most or all of the retail sets will be around a while, but what do I know?
  2. I might have to see if I can pick up a TLM shirt tomorrow to wear to the screening this weekend.
  3. Amazing. I've seen individual sets clearanced at Walmart in just a couple months or so before, but never an entire theme just weeks after it comes out. Wow.
  4. That's insane! Where are you?
  5. I don't know, but since it says "while supplies last" without an end date, my guess is that Regal theaters will hand theme out until they run out, whatever date that happens.
  6. Thanks! I'm lucky to have her. We actually live in Tallahassee, so an Orlando screening (the closest she could get) is a bit of an undertaking, but we don't exactly mind taking weekend trips there (we both have season passes to Walt Disney World and annual passes to LEGOLAND Florida ;) . We also have both AMC and Regal theaters here in town, so at the moment I think I may see it first this weekend in Orlando, a second time here on opening day, and a third the day after that, so as to get both / all the bonuses (assuming I like the movie, of course, but that seems a given now). An excellent question. Inquiring minds want to know!
  7. And in other other news... This appears to be the same one as the Walmart promo for the game, so thank goodness for that, at least. Perhaps in order to get every polybag and whatnot we won't have to buy multiple copies of the game from different vendors and for different platforms; maybe we'll need to get just one, and see the movie multiple times in multiple theaters. :p Actually, I don't think I'll mind that too much, if so. According to IMDB it's 100 minutes.
  8. My girlfriend - no, my fiancée, I have to remind myself; I proposed two days ago and she accepted - just won two tickets to an advance screening in Orlando on the 1st. We'll get to see it this Saturday! Woohoo! I wonder whether there'll be any sort of bricktacular swag?
  9. There is a new LEGO MMO game coming out soon, called LEGO Minifigures Online. It will feature minifigure characters from the various existing series of Minifigures, as well as other LEGO themes. It may also feature a bunch of new minifigures accompanied by their own line of so-called CMFs (a la The LEGO Movie Minifigures, The Simpsons Minifigures, etc.), but I don't think it's known yet for sure.
  10. Possibly. He's been rumored to be in talks with Marvel / Disney about playing Doctor Strange, although more recent reports say that's not the case.
  11. Man, I cannot wait for this movie! The clips are killing me - I don't want to watch all these little clips and everything before seeing the movie, since I don't want to spoil that, but at the same time each little bit and clip and even each still image just tantalizes more and more, and it's harder and harder to resist the temptation to gorge myself on all of them (to say nothing of checking out all the physical sets!). February 7th can't get here too soon. That said... Argh! Having different preorder bonuses from different vendors for the same videogame is terribly frustrating. There are going to be any number of us who'll want to get most or all of the sets, and even duplicates of them, but probably very few people who'll want multiple copies of the game (though I do imagine there'll be a few who will, mainly to have it on multiple platforms). As someone who doesn't even yet have any of the current systems, it's going to be tough to justify buying even one copy of the game now, let alone two. I wonder whether there'll be an alternate way to get any of these bonuses...
  12. I tried to do the B&N thing, but I needed to be or have a child. Oh, well.
  13. Indeed! What's that from? Man, just the promos and polybags and whatnot from this theme are going to kill me, never mind the boxed sets and the Minifigures...
  14. Well, it's a little late for this now, but you might want to add that there was also a free Wyldstyle poster from the LEGO Store the week before the Emmet one (if just for the sake of completeness).
  15. Well, all that plus the fact no minifigure face from the 1980s had a printed facial expression so exuberant as Benny's. I didn't remember it when I wrote my previous post, since it's not on this page of the thread. Here, let's rectify that: Looking at that now, it certainly appears to be a recently-produced simulation of an aged figure, rather than an actual aged figure, but also not one used as a stop-motion puppet (if there is indeed any actual stop-motion in the movie at all; presumably we'll find out for sure from the movie's credits). I'm therefore going to assume this is a production Benny the Spaceman minifigure, as he'll appear in the lovely neo-Classic spaceship set (and that TLG gave him to Chris Miller the same way they gave the major cast members of The Hobbit copies of their characters' minifigures). The bit of dust that's on him and the way the light is hitting him in the picture probably makes this Benny figure look older than it actually is.
  16. I did see that (and loved it!), but of course most of that isn't part of the actual movie, so it wouldn't necessarily reflect the actual production. Note that while that video contains fairly extensive flexing of minifigure elements (in ways that aren't possible with real minifigures, but that are pretty common with animated ones in the various videogames and CG animated shorts), the actual movie footage that we've seen so far contains much less of that sort of thing, and what little is there is more subtle. That said, the quote just2good provides above seems to settle it (although I'm curious about the mention of the trailer, as opposed to the movie overall). I actually had read early on that there would be a little live-action in the movie, but it had been so long since I'd seen anything more said about that that I was beginning to think that plan might have been abandoned. But there was never much question that at least the great majority of the movie would be CG animation, if not all or nearly all. Back to that Benny pic... could it be one of the filmmakers' childhood figures, inspiring the movie character?
  17. Reportedly, the movie is mostly computer-animated, but with a certain amount of actual stop-motion, apparently done using real LEGO bricks. The filmmakers have been quoted as saying they want people to have a hard time distinguishing between the CGI and the stop-motion. ________________________________ I am so jazzed for both this hilarious-looking movie and the theme it's supporting; both look wonderful. I've been torn over frequenting this thread, though, since on the one hand I don't want a bunch of spoilers for the movie, but on the other I want to be sure I catch as much news as possible about the actual sets, for all the promotions and whatnot that might be tied to specific dates and times before the movie is actually released. I doubt I'll be able to get all the polybags and whatnot, but I'd certainly like to try. If I may ask, could we get those added to the initial post along with all the boxed retail sets, and perhaps include a little bit of text for each one summarizing what we know about where and when it will be available?
  18. It's profoundly unlikely indeed, but not completely out of the question. LEGO has done at least one licensed theme before that incorporated a minifigure based on a real-world, historical / legendary figure used as a character in the licensed property (Blackbeard, in Pirates of the Caribbean), while other Simpsons products have included figures or other merchandise based on the likenesses of real-world people used as characters in the show (I remember a Simpsons action figure of Stephen Hawking, for one), so there is in fact already a precedent for it on both sides of the equation. However, I think for it to happen, this theme would have to go on a while and "use up" a bunch of the original Simpsons characters before they got around to doing people who've guest-starred on the show as themselves (also, minifigures of real-world people who are still alive would probably require their approval), so I wouldn't expect it anytime soon - perhaps in LEGO The Simpsons 2016 or 2017 or so, if the theme goes on that long.
  19. That's unfortunate, and I do think TLG could and should do more to work with small sellers. That said, I know of a couple small stores in town here (Tallahassee, FL) that sell LEGO products. One of them mostly has only sets from a few years ago, though; I'm not sure if the owner has actually had any recent dealings with LEGO at all. The other stocks a lot of recent / current sets, though, so presumably it's still possible - at least for stores that were already selling LEGO products a few years ago.
  20. This discussion is a subset of that one - that's for everything people would like to see TLG do (including remakes), while this one is only for things people would like to see TLG do that they haven't done at all before.
  21. I'll second this, and add the various background vehicles seen on Tatooine that haven't been made into sets yet (Mos Eisley speeders other than Luke's, and so on). I also would honestly, seriously like a set or two based on The Star Wars Holiday Special, ideally Chewie's family's home on Kashyyyk (with minifigures of the family, of course), and perhaps also a set based on the animated segment. That's not to say I seriously expect them to ever do it, of course; I'm just saying it's what I'd like. But I actually could imagine them doing the Lars homestead and moisture farm as a D2C set.
  22. Holy smokes, that's fantastic. All those Creator eagles, plus the Clone Trooper lieutenants for $24?! _____________________________________ My own acquisition rate is painfully lagging as always, alas. I'm still playing catch-up with sets from years ago. Hence, I just finally got a 9492 TIE Fighter (along with a second copy of 5001709 Clone Lieutenant), and I'm currently awaiting delivery of a 9493 X-Wing Starfighter in my latest Shop at Home order. EDIT: The order arrived today, so now I have that. :) These are the current (still available, more or less) sets that I want most, and still don't have at all; I'm going to try to get them all within the next few months, while they're still around: 10225 R2-D2 10188 Death Star 7965 Millennium Falcon 75014 Battle of Hoth 9516 Jabba's Palace 75005 Rancor Pit 75020 Jabba's Sail Barge 75011 Tantive IV & Alderaan 75009 Snowspeeder & Hoth 3866 Star Wars: Battle of Hoth 75010 B-Wing Starfighter & Endor ... plus additional copies of the TIE Fighter and the 75003 A-Wing Starfighter, if I can manage it. We'll see. The three Planets sets and the board game will obviously be tough for me, since I live in the US where they weren't released, and of course they're all starting to go away now anyway. 75014 is also sold out from the US Shop at Home; I'll have to get it from a brick and mortar LEGO store or TRU or something. I hope I can make it.
  23. Wow, that's a fantastic gift, indeed! Like gazumpty I'd be pretty jazzed to get all those bricks... except that I don't think I'd want to disassemble a MOC created as a gift for me from my dad. I think this is one I'd keep together permanently. It sounds like you have a really cool dad, Defaultsound. Congrats on your beautiful Christmas present. :)
  24. What new polybags? Are you talking about the Minifigures, or something else?
  25. I actually think a mix of opaque and translucent colors would be great for a Force ghost, if they did one - perhaps opaque for the torso and hips, and translucent for the arms and legs (or perhaps opaque torso, hips and legs, with just the arms translucent), so that there'd be substantial translucency without actually having trans-on-trans assemblies. It would also mean the most substantial, core part of the body would be the most "solid," with the extremities being more ephemeral-looking. And perhaps the opaque parts could be glow-in-the-dark? But since this book is an updated version of an already-released "set," another neat thing might be to just have an updated version of the figure that came with the original. Normally I'm not a fan of "updates" for minifigures, particularly for rank-and-file army-builder types like stormtroopers, but for specific, unique, named characters it's not so bad, and there are now new parts available that could allow for two major improvements upon the original award ceremony Luke. First, there's the new-ish hair element, which finally captures Luke's locks from ANH, and secondly there's now the medal. The shape is different from the Alliance medal in the movie, but that could be overcome with clever printing on the strap at the points where its ends connect to the medal, and it would allow us to accurately show Luke both right before and right after getting it. All that said, here are some of my personal picks for what minifigure should come with the book (not that it matters, since it was undoubtedly decided upon months ago, but anyway...): Luke Skywalker (award ceremony) (updated as described above) C-3PO (polished - chromed) (updated print design, as per the last couple years and the new TC-4) Beru Lars (ANH - and no, a skeleton won't do ) Jaxxon Zuckuss 4-LOM Biggs Darklighter (Tatooine, from the famous deleted scenes from ANH) ... or anyone from (specific to) The Star Wars Holiday Special, the made-for-TV Ewok movies, or the Droids & Ewoks animated series.
