Oh, it has sales potential, just not enough to warrant new molds or anything like that. It could still get a set, though, just not one that uses minifigures with custom heads - say, a set of the Planet Express building and/or delivery ship.

Not as a "regular" licensed theme now that the show's run is over, but I could see it happening as one or more CUUSOO sets. A while back I might have thought the show's content to skew just a wee bit too "adult" for TLG to find it palatable, but if they can do The Simpsons (which they're doing, of course), I don't see them having any problems with Futurama, at least not from a content perspective. The business case is a different matter - they're not about to launch a regular, full-blown, available-in-retail-stores-everywhere theme around a series that has now ended presumably for good, but a CUUSOO set? I think it's actually a strong possibility.

Unique Canadian Minifig Sets...
Blondie-Wan replied to LEGO Historian's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thanks so much for sharing that poster image, Historian. I'd dearly love to have that, myself (I've actually wanted more than once for TLG to produce posters of some of the box art for some of its classic sets, particularly those old Space ones, and I'd even considered submitting one as a CUUSOO project before the recent submission guidelines were amended, eliminating non-set projects like that). Do you know how much it originally cost? What odd packaging for a poster, though - a flat box? I'd have thought it'd be in some sort of large envelope if it had to be folded like that, though of course it'd be better if the poster were rolled in a tube, rather than being folded at all. -
LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality

I want all the Doctors as well, although it's still very very early to talk about how they "should" do it - there's still nothing approaching a guarantee it'll even happen at all yet; this news merely establishes it as now being within the realm of possibility. For it to actually happen - at least, for it to actually happen through CUUSOO as opposed to being just another regular licensed theme (which is what would make it appropriate as a subject of discussion for this thread), there first needs to be one or more new Doctor Who projects that make it to 10,000 votes (I'm sure this much will eventually happen, at least, but still), and then get approved. Even then, it wouldn't apply to a whole Doctor Who theme, just to the individual set(s), unless and until either more projects make it through CUUSOO and/or what does make it through proves so popular that TLG launches a whole new theme around it, a la Minecraft. In other words, even if LEGO Doctor Who does happen (through the CUUSOO channel, anyway), it'll almost certainly be just one Doctor or another to start with (though of course it depends upon the set - someone could always get a project done of one of the numerous multi-Doctor stories, after all). But still. Yeah, this could be awesome, and I do hope it eventually gives us all the Doctors, from Hartnell to Capaldi, and beyond... -
LEGO Doctor Who now a possibility?!
Blondie-Wan replied to TheDoctor's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I was just coming here to post this myself, after seeing it this only this morning; you beat me to it! I find it very interesting that the LEGO CUUSOO team made a point of specifically posting to say Doctor Who projects will now be accepted. I would have thought that when a previously-unavailable license became available, it'd be up to us, the fans, to discover that, but somebody at LEGO wanted to make sure we knew Doctor Who is now a possibility. Mind you, that's still far from a guarantee that it'll happen, of course, and Doctor Who projects can still be declined for all sorts of reasons, and it's still entirely possible official LEGO Doctor Who will never happen. But this latest development is very encouraging. In other words: Fantastic! -
I totally agree, and didn't say that it was a cinch to win; my point was just that it's been sufficiently well-received for there to be even the bare minimum of a possibility. I certainly don't think it's likely to be nominated, much less win, but I do think it has at least a slight chance at the former. Best Animated Feature, though? I think that's more than a mere strong possibility; I daresay it's already the likeliest contender. The reviews have been excellent, and there's a common theme of "this is so much better than we ever expected or had any reason to." It's obviously possible something will come out between now and the end of the year that will blow everyone away, but right now The LEGO Movie is already sitting pretty with stronger reviews than the overwhelming majority of movies get, including most of the previous winners in this category.

I throw away most boxes since I have too little space already, but I do try to hang on to certain items: - particularly attractive packaging, and/or boxes designed with reusability in mind, such as ones that can be opened with little or no damage and then reclosed (the Architecture-style boxes, for example, though I don't yet have any actual Architecture sets; the CUUSOO Back to the Future set's box is one such box, though); this also includes things like plastic bulk buckets and tubs, screw-top plastic canisters, etc. - packaging that goes with other packaging I'm keeping (so for example, since I'm keeping the CUUSOO Back to the Future Time Machine box, I'll probably keep the CUUSOO Hayabusa box to go with it, and any other CUUSOO sets I get; most of them seem to be among the nicer boxes anyway, so I'd just be throwing away one or two if I threw away any, and if that's the case I think I'd like to just have all of them together) - packaging that can be considered a building element (this one is pretty obvious; I'm sure most of us don't throw away hard plastic containers with usable studs on top, say, but there are also borderline cases like the vacuum-formed blister packages for the earlier Star Wars minis, which included a molded relief of a 2x4 brick on the front; it was probably meant more for decoration than anything, but as it's sized to LEGO bricks it does actually attach to them) - packaging that doesn't take up that much space, so why not (for example, I like to keep polybags, Minifigure packets, etc. - not necessarily every single one I open, but at least one of each set or Minifigure series) - packaging from Star Wars sets pertaining to the original movie (Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope), and any / all Indiana Jones sets - Advent Calendar boxes

From a purely pragmatic standpoint, I can't even keep up with "just" all the OT releases, never mind everything else. I've enjoyed getting certain prequel-era stuff, since I can always use nice Star Warsy elements in OT (and "personal EU") creations regardless of what sets they come from (it's notable that a good decade and a half after the theme began, Tusken Raiders have still appeared in just one single set, and that's from the PT). I will note I'll be glad to see the LEGO Star Wars shelves in stores filled entirely with sets from the OT and the OT-era-ish Star Wars: Rebels. I do kind of wish I'd gotten more stuff from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but my area of primary focus will always be the OT (and certain older EU material that was never likely to be represented in official sets anyway).

Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary CUUSOO set Discussion
Blondie-Wan replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in LEGO Licensed
A good thing they're not back-to-back, then (since the MSL Curiosity Rover and the Exo-suit come between the two). $49.99 (US). -
I see you're weighing its prospects only against other animated movies. As well-received as it is, I think it actually has a shot - a very slim shot, to be sure, but still a chance - of actually being nominated for the top prize of Best Picture. Animated movies are very rarely considered for this, and none have actually won, but three have been nominated (all of them from Disney, which of course this one isn't - 1991's Beauty and the Beast, 2009's Up, and 2010's Toy Story 3). I think it's extremely likely to win Best Animated Feature. It's eligible in several other categories, of course, and I think there are a few areas in which it has a good chance of being nominated: Best Original Screenplay Best Original Song ("Everything is Awesome!") Best Production Design Possibly also Best Original Score and Best Director(s), depending upon what the field is like by the end of the year. It's getting better reviews than the overwhelming majority of movies ever do, but of course the Academy may figuratively raise an eyebrow or turn up its nose at the prospect of offering top award consideration for an animated family feature that's not only not "important" but is also so overtly tied to "crass commercialism" as to use a specific brand-name toy in its narrative at a fundamental level, all throughout the entirety of the movie and even in the very title. But if it remains the best-reviewed major studio release of the year or close to it, as seems fairly likely given its current ratings, anything's possible...

Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary CUUSOO set Discussion
Blondie-Wan replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in LEGO Licensed
Congrats, WetWired. You must be so (justifiably!) proud. The set looks great, and I can't wait to add it to my own collection. Jurassic Park is a no-go - Hasbro has the rights, and will be making KRE-O Jurassic Park sets to accompany the next movie (though LEGO did make some JP sets back in the early 2000s, as a subtheme of LEGO Studios). -
If LEGO didn't exist at all? I think I'd just have a lot more money and space and time for things other than construction toys. Oooh, thanks so much for that link.

Sacrilegious! Blasphemy! Walmart rant
Blondie-Wan replied to Lego Otaku's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
On a related note, I had to endure a KRE-O promo spot before two of my viewings of The LEGO Movie (!). -
Based on what we've seen so far, I love it, even if the model in the set is significantly scaled down from its screen counterpart (as it has to be in order to be remotely feasible). I don't know whether I'll be able to get it - almost invariably, I miss out on at least the largest sets in themes I'm interested in, simply because I can't afford everything - but I'd love to get it if I can.
-
I'm sur I'm sure it will be. I just request that it include Indy, please!

Yeah, I've noticed this before. Back when the regular Minifigures line was up to Series 7 or 8, I found out my local Target still had a whole unopened case of Series 6 left in the back that they didn't put out on because they just no longer had room for it in the current planogram. When I asked about them they would bring out the box and let me feel the packets (cherry-picking all the Roman Soldiers), and when I was done they just took it back to the stockroom or warehouse or whatever they call it.
-
I thought there were more licensed themes than ever before, since all the older ones continue to exist even after they're discontinued. I take it you mean ones that are currently in production, though. Even so, there are still a few others - Cars / Planes (still in production, at least in DUPLO Planes), Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Mickey Mouse & Friends, and Minecraft, plus the one-off CUUSOO sets based on Back to the Future and Ghostbusters. I have that problem a lot, and not just with this forum, though it would be diminished or eliminated if the initial posts in threads covering overall themes got updated more frequently and comprehensively (so that they'd include all the sets in a given theme in a given year, including polybags and whatnot; all too often I don't find out about those until it's too late).
-
Did it? Awesome! I do know the estimates and projections for it in the weeks before it opened were around the $40 million mark; it's beating projections by a significant margin. And I'm sure everyone here knows by now, but it's also getting terrific reviews (and deservedly so!). I for one am so happy with the movie. It's currently at 96% "Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes, and with 132 reviews counted, it appears to have settled comfortably in that mid-90s zone. RT works out the average rating to 8.2. It may be just February, but it's safe to say it'll easily be at least one of the best-reviewed movies of the year, and quite possibly the best. Not only does it look like a shoe-in for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars this time next year, but I actually find myself daring to dream of it getting nominated for Best PIcture. It'd be only the fourth animated movie to do so (and the first non-Disney one), but I think it has a genuine chance.

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Blondie-Wan replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Could the initial post be updated to include the remaining sets (polybags, promo minifigures, and perhaps the Minifigures)? I get that there's a separate topic for the blind-bagged Minifigures (why is another question, but there it is), but just adding the basic info about them to the single initial post surely wouldn't hurt anything, and the other sets (Piece of Resistance, et al.) really ought to be there, or at least in some thread's initial post. As it is now, someone wanting the entire theme could look at the initial post (and a huge chunk of the rest of the thread) without ever learning of their existence until only after they're long gone, or even never at all.- 2,626 replies

How so?

Ah. Well, The Simpsons Minifigures are just part of the larger theme that also includes the house, and aren't part of the "regular" Minifigures theme (the numbered series) at any rate, and thus don't need to be grouped with them. Note also that the house accounts for 50% of the theme right now (actually 100% since the Minifigures aren't out yet, but never mind) if one goes purely by sets (different numbered sets / SKUs, as opposed to actual contents), and way way more than that if going by price and / or piece count.
-
Bringing all discussion of this theme together makes sense, but why in Special and not here? Whatever the size of the theme, it's still obviously Licensed. (Incidentally, even if it is a relatively small theme, with either two sets or seventeen depending upon how you count them it's still larger than some of the others we discuss in here such as Avatar: The Last Airbender, and that's just the first dip into what has a reasonable chance of becoming a much larger theme.)
