  1. So glad GG was my first modular, and I only had to make my CC with BL/Lego orders! (Not counting MS, which I dislike intensely). It's also quite scary to think of the monetary value sitting on my shelves - CC, GG, FB, GE, TH, PS, PC & PR! I also have, in my parts bins, another copy of TH, two GEs and two PSs.
  2. It's red on the 1x1s to provide some contrast. I tried dark red and didn't like it as much. The upper floor is the difficult one - I'm not sold on the medium blue flooring either, but I need a lot more tiles to come up with something else! Ideally I'd love to link two CCs together to create a decent sized hotel, but the cost would be prohibitive.
  3. So I finally took pictures of my CC build. It has all the original parts, except minifigs as I'm not overly interested in those. I then added an interior. I finally decided to swap the windows on the first floor for those with glass in them.
  4. Love your use of the tiles (1x2) decorated with the tapes for the hob, looks really good. Impressed you could get such a good look out of all the old pieces, just a shame how Lego fades/yellows with time :(
  5. Mine is all done (CC), including 99% of the interior. I'll put pictures up tomorrow :)
  6. My turntables arrived! This means my CC is entirely complete, with all original bricks, of which 99% are new - the only used items are the two doors and the four bley on bley turntables. It's all built, but I'm awaiting an order of tiles to finish my ground floor cafe. I'll take some pictures as soon as that is done - but here's a sneak preview. Lego City Council also received many complaints from hotel visitors about the draughts, so they mandated the installation of glass in the windows. Yes, I replaced the 1st floor with modern windows, and to be honest, it looks far far better!
  7. My red roof bricks arrived from Lego! Looks a lot better - now it's just turntables :( Also started on an interior for the ground floor. Will post when done :)
  8. Ah Market Street, the one "modular" I will never own. To me it isn't a proper modular, as it pre-dated the series, and acted more as a test set for what was to come. Its design is pretty poor and I find it never fits well in to a modular street due to the badly under-designed alleyway and several other aspects (such as side balconies). Arguably it should have been released as a 16x32.
  9. Yeah, actual windows look nice - plus I've never been a fan of Lego using holes to imply a window. Time to switch them out - I've got stacks of spares! Should be finished by the weekend, as long as the turntables and roof pieces turn up that is.
  10. I've had a bunch of orders arrive, which allowed me to start building CC. I reached the third floor before hitting the sticking point of yet not having the red roof bricks from Lego (despite 3 other PaB orders being here!). I'm still waiting on turntables and the grey side door (I have a red as temp) as well, but you can build without and slot in later. Things about the build? - Lego's PDF instructions are terrible for brown. Second floor was guesswork mainly. - My second floor doesn't sit right on the third. The 1x6 brown tile above the corner window sub-build seems to be one plate too high. I'll review when the turntables arrive as I'll have to rip that part out. - Really tempted to replace the first floor 'windows' with actual windows. The newer windows used in other modulars would be much much nicer.
  11. So glad that GG was my first modular and I only have to build my own CC. My orders have started arriving - I've got a bunch of smaller ones that fitted through my letterbox, and two packets waiting at the local delivery office. However I don't expect to see my Lego orders for another week at least, though I have had shipping notifications. I'm a bit happier as it looks like one of my backordered bits came back in - I've got 3x 6039349 (Brick with bow 1x8x2) that claim to be on the way.
  12. The 80mm cables have been removed entirely, and they're sending me a 160mm instead. The two arch bricks have been backordered - the 1x8x2 is saying March, and no date for the other. It's annoying because they said on the phone everything was available, and then have to send me three separate emails over the last 2 days that basically say their system doesn't know what is going on. Luckily I do have the 1x8x2 arches coming from Bricklink, but I really don't want to have to spend yet more money on the 1x6x1. Luckily it is in tan, so isn't too rare.
  13. Somewhat cross with BnP at the moment. When I placed my order, I was told everything I had ordered was in stock (and I asked!). Since then I've had three emails, saying they don't have: 2x 80mm (10L) cables 1x 1x6x1 brick with bow 3x 1x8x2 brick with bow
  14. Just as a heads up, Lego no longer make 4116941 (Outer cable, 80mm). My PaB order has had it deleted, but the customer services rep is sending a single longer version - looks like I may have to cut it down. They're also out of stock until March of the dark blue arch.
  15. Interesting. There's 4460 and 4460b. I was looking for 4460, of which there is only one available. Good spot! What pieces aren't available through them?
  16. I'm all done! The most expensive parts turn out to be original window frames for the top floor. Five of them are costing a small fortune, but I want it to match the instructions. No minifigs at this stage, but that'll do. Ordered 60 of the dark red roof parts from Lego, along with various bits and pieces. Should get everything within a week or so.
  17. Does anybody know where the dark red slopes can be obtained at the moment? There's literally ONE on Bricklink, and Lego's site is saying they're out of stock. I'm at my wits end trying to get those pieces for my CC :( EDIT: Found the dark red slopes on P&B by searching for the part number, rather than set. Silly Lego. I'm just left to get a few odds and ends now - like a lampost and solving the door issue.
  18. The magnet holders are somewhat of a nightmare to get hold of - just get them in any colour possible. Mine ended up being black, but at one point it was almost going to be a mix of four different colours. You'll never see them though.
  19. The deck floor on this model actually goes right at the wing level, so converting the entire thing to cargo use is pretty easy, without any changes made to the wing location. The problem is trying to retain the opening door aspects whilst being able to access the middle section via the roof easily.
  20. Picked up a new RGS the other day, plus a bunch of City sets. Was floored by the price increase though - £110, compared to what I remember being £70?
  21. I really don't like Lego's distribution of the recent waves - only having 2 of several figures is highly irritating, and just serves to push up prices on Bricklink later. As for the figures themselves, some of them are fantastic - particularly the scientist and bobby. I won't collect the entire set this time round, but probably about 50%.
  22. Hah, nothing! Just a very different build style for that area - indeed looks like changes for the entire frame.
  23. Lots of places in Paris look like this. Lots of outdoor seating under awnings, and absolutely packed at feeding times! Building is typical Parisian, with the light stone, small balconies and the blue road name plate. Waiters dressed for the occasion, which lends a more formal element.
  24. Wow, those two dark grey bits sticking out the back are quite a change from the old model. What are they part of? Engines?
  25. Can you highlight a few of the differences from the older version? Externally it looks very similar (changes to the dark red stripes on the 'wings' at rear, greebling?)
