Wow, didn't expect it to be totally gone so fast! I picked mine up from the Bellevue, WA LEGO store about 2 weeks ago and it was the last one on the shelves.

Well, I see two of those stroller ladies from Green Grocer on the street, so I'd imagine he's already gotten started on that!
-
I'd love another vehicle because it'd probably be from the 30's, and I'm quite into that sort of thing.

Wow, I actually had a dream about modular buildings last night. These things are getting to me! Problem is, I don't have room to store more than 3 the way I'm doing it now. Gonna have to get creative.

Though Green Grocer does run the risk of being discontinued sooner, it should still be a ways off and it is truly the crown jewel of the modular line in my eyes. I like the idea of going CC -> Fire -> GG.

As soon as I heard it was drying up overseas, I picked one up. It was a bit of a bummer spending that much money so close to my purchase of Fire Brigade, but I didn't want to risk not getting it!

I think this is really a great set. The colors are perfect, the shape is great, and the requisite details are all there. I only have two complaints: - The storage for the handtruck on top of the truck is clever, but odd, as he would have to climb on top of the truck to reach it. It's still better than not giving us anywhere at all to put it, though. - The click hinge at the back makes dumping a 2-step process, as Macoco showed, and also tends to nudge open now and then, spilling a bit of trash out. I still think it's a great vehicle and a great design. It's also a great source of 1x1 cheese slopes, of which it has 14 (plus 3 extras).

Google cached Mel's page but not the furniture page. The Internet Archive has it, though: http://web.archive.org/web/20080605175807/...sFurniture.aspx The images don't come up, but I have them, so here they are:

Fantastic! Just a great street scape all around. I particularly love your use of color - nothing looks brand new, yet nothing looks particularly dilapidated. It's just a regular old city showing its age. The dark blue building is a particularly nice touch. Also, that Mustang looks strangely familiar.

The proportions are off, but it's intentional. Upper floor windows in Disneyland are deliberately underscaled. I forget why.

Yellow and gray sounds like a smart combo. An aggressively bright color like yellow doesn't really match the dark/sand shades the CC buildings have been using so far, but gray will hopefully defuse it nicely.

Thank you all very much for the feedback! As promised, here are a few more photos. My camera's macro function is a little too focused, so parts of the model are a smidge out of focus no matter what I do. I think the lighting is overall better, though it doesn't capture the detail in the black parts quite as well. Here's a breakaway to show how some of it was built: Again, thanks for your feedback!

I just put mine together a couple days ago and it took almost exactly 4 hours. This was powering through, no breaks. 2 hours for the first floor, 1 each for the second and third.

Lego house built of bricks? Need help please
Carbohydrates replied to Dennimator's topic in LEGO Town
This is a good way to go: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=145764 It's much more easily accomplished with piece 47905, brick 1x1 with studs on two opposite sides, a part that wasn't available when that technique was developed. -
A member of another forum I frequent posted WIP pictures of his 1930s police precinct, and it inspired me so much, I've converted my small street display (based around the modular houses) to a 30s-era scene as well! I picked up the Shanghai Chase set to get my hands on some appropriate vehicles, but I wasn't a huge fan of the blockiness of the villainous Chinese car, so I made my own sedan to cart my mafioso around in! Since it was meant to be mob transport, it was important to allow it to fit at least 3 figs while still being in scale with other vehicles. I apologize for the blurriness of some of these photos. I work all day and never have natural light available when I want to photograph things! I'll hopefully get some better shots come weekend. Without further ado! Gallery: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=404587 This one, like everything else I make, was designed digitally and ordered through Bricklink. 147 pieces, cost about $20 (it uses some rather expensive pieces, unfortunately). I'm overall very happy with how it turned out, I just wish they made those rear wheel well pieces in light gray. As long as I've got you all here, allow me to show you a few more 1930s brick-a-brack! Here's a convertible that I'll also likely order. It uses a very similar front wheel well design as the Sedan, but a bit cleaner. Kind of a version 2.0 of the design. It also features the colors dark green and dark tan, which will make it significantly more expensive to order via Bricklink. It also also features a 5-stud width body on a 6-stud width base to give it a 1/2 stud running rail on either side and a sleeker overall shape than the 6-wide sedan above. I made this vehicle mostly because I want a dark green car. Not much more to it than that! Here's a bit of furniture. I'll most likely use a lot of these in decorating the inside of Cafe Corner. And finally, here's what I have thus far for vehicles. 3 by LEGO, 2 by me. Once I get that dark green convertible, I think I'll be set! Thanks for looking!

Nice! I tend to work the same way when building cars: designing based on an era, not a specific model. I love the hood! That 2x4 curved slope element is great.

Bumping an old thread with my first PAB cup! I think I did okay. This was at the store in Bellevue, WA. - 25 picket fence, white - 48 plate 1x2, lime green - 30 plate 1x2, brown - 9 plate 1x3, brown - 34 brick 1x2, brown - 54 brick 1x2, light blue - 64 brick 1x2 hollow, trans black - 18 brick 1x2 w/ grill, brown - 34 brick 1x2 w/ grill, white - 60 brick 1x4, light blue - 99 plant flower stem, green - 38 plant flower sprue, pink - 38 plant flower sprue, red - 8 car wheel well 2x2, white - 8 car wheel well 2x2, black - 200 1x1 slope, trans-clear Total: 767 pieces @ $15 = $0.0196 per piece I used the trans cheese slopes to fill all the little cracks at the end, and I have no idea how I ended up with exactly 200. I also have no idea what to do with them. I love that they had basic light blue pieces, because now I don't feel like I missed out not getting Market Street! I also love that they had 2 colors of flower sprue. I was kind of disappointed by the lack of tiles, though, and no 'dark' colors except dark gray 1x1 bricks. That said, I had a good time and I'm pretty happy with my haul. They also had the bottom half of the treasure chest, but not the top. When asked about it, one guy said they were out of stock, and a second guy chipped in that, actually, they never had them in the first place!

The only time I have a problem with it is when it's visually distracting, like Technic beam infrastructure showing through panels or blue half pins in exposed places. Otherwise, I'm fine with it. I like it when it adds function or strength, and pieces like the 1x1 with axle hole and 1x2 with 2 axle holes are very useful for SNOT, especially when used with half pins.

I know how you feel! I got Fire Brigade this month and was hoping to wait until December or so to grab CC, but I think I'll just make a run to the LEGO store ASAP at this point... might walk out with a Winter Toy Shop while I'm at it. ;)

What is Your Favorite Modular Building?
Carbohydrates replied to Legoliner Pilot's topic in LEGO Town
Green Grocer gets my vote. For me, it's all about the details, which is where I feel Market Street falls shortest. I understand PaB elements were limited at the time, but the detail work kinda fell flat for me - the generic gargoyle/lion head statue thing at the top and ugly/mismatched gate in particular. The awnings are nice, though. Green Grocer has the most interesting details to me, like the ground floor interior, cat and mouse, skeleton leg decor, drapes, lamps... Also, I personally don't include Market Street in the modular house line, but it does fit and could probably have been in the poll. It's not a huge deal that it isn't, though, because it really does go either way. It's all good! -
Ha, I thought I was the only one still using the rather outdated LeoCAD interface!
-
Hello! What a great topic! I build using Ldraw interfaces such as MLCAD. I very rarely start without knowing what I'm trying to build, but sometimes I'll start in on something that will naturally evolve into something else entirely. If that happens, I just go with it. My building style involves looking at some source images or running through the idea in my head and figuring out what the trickiest parts of the build are going to be and how I can accomplish them with bricks. These are always the first parts I build. Then, I usually build from that point. It's a lot different than building with real bricks, where it's usually important to establish a strong foundation early on and detail work comes later (for me).

Best way to make an accordian connector?
Carbohydrates replied to Luke McAwesome's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Perhaps you could have a center section attached by turntables? Here's a quick mockup: Range of motion: Pros: + Solid and stable + Able to bend either direction Cons: - Large / bulky, - Can see into the inside of the MOC (could probably be worked around; this is a pretty rough mockup) -
Seeing as they tracked an individual named Dr. Lava to a world full of lava, they really should have been better prepared for this sort of thing!
