Good call! Dunno about the first one, but the other three look great! Thanks! I'm not sure exactly what you mean about the Indy legs, though. Also, you've got a nice layout there! What torso is that on this gentleman? I guess I'm too traditional in that sense - I really don't care for flesh figs at all. I appreciate the help, though!

Trading Collectable Minifigs Series 1, 2 and 3
Carbohydrates replied to danim's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
My figs are opened to verify contents, but include everything (stand, leaflet, and any spare pieces like revolvers and cap feathers). Available: 1 Caveman 1 Diver 1 Magician 2 Robot 1 Skater 1 Wrestler Want: Cowboys, any number Zombies, any number 2 Tribal Hunters If you have a large number of zombies, I could be convinced to part with a full set of 16 figs for a lesser number of zombies (trade in your favor). I'll do this worldwide, but I'd prefer to keep 1-for-1 trades in the US, please! I don't feel like paying a ton in shipping for a $2 minifig. :) -
Hello! I've been getting into Western stuff a bit more lately (I'll have a MOC up soon) due to playing a lot of Red Dead Redemption, and I started looking into the old official Western sets. They're fantastic, but... there are only a few unique figures and many of them repeat often throughout sets, so I started looking for suitable alternatives! So, what minifigs, torsos, and related accessories do you like for Western MOCing? Here's a little list I've put together (mostly of torsos) to look out for. I'm working on building an American town so this is mostly for cowboys and citizens rather than Mexicans, soldiers, or native Americans, but feel free to contribute ideas for those as well! First, the obvious: Bandit 1 Bandit 2 Bandit 3 Bandit 4 Banker Cowboy Blue Shirt Cowboy Red Shirt Sheriff Cowboy Torsos: Adventurers Desert Suspenders and Red Bow Tie Pattern Adventurers Jungle Suit, Brown Vest, Black Tie Pattern Adventurers Orient White Shirt, Green Vest, and Red Bow Tie Pattern Batman Suit Jacket with Gray Vest, Dk Blue Bow Tie Pattern Harry Potter Dark Red Stripe Suit Front, Gray Vest and Tie, Gold Fob Pattern Harry Potter Gilderoy Green Vest Pattern Harry Potter Goblin 1 Pattern Harry Potter Goblin 2 Pattern Harry Potter Pinstriped Suit Jacket, Vest Light Bluish Gray, Blue Tie Pattern Harry Potter Pinstriped Suit Jacket, Vest Silver, Blue Tie Pattern Harry Potter Torn Suit with Buttons, Shirt and Tie Pattern Indiana Jones Waistcoat, Jacket, Green Bow Tie & Diary Pattern Speed Racer Dark Bluish Gray Pinstriped Vest and Red Tie Pattern Speed Racer Dark Orange Vest and Bow Tie Pattern Speed Racer Tweed Vest with Rep Striped Tie Pattern Studios Suit Jacket with Vest and Red Tie Pattern (Gent) I also considered the Toy Story torsos, but they look pretty fake (obviously). Legs: Hips and Legs with Indiana Jones Belts and Holster Pattern Hips and Legs with SW Gunbelt Pattern Hips and Tan Legs with SW Gunbelt Pattern Accessories: Cowboy Hat Cowboy Hat with Silver Star Pattern Top Hat Hat, Wide Brim Flat Hat, Wide Brim Outback Style (Fedora) Bandana Unofficial: gunbelt and bandolier from Brickforge Revolver Rifle Unofficial: Brickarms sawed-off shotgun, M1917 revolver, M1851 Navy revolver, and magnum revolver. Late 1800s-early 1900s only: C96, SMLE, P08, and M1911.

I won't pretend to be a historian, but from the pics you posted, it looks like the Greek except for the armor, which indeed looks more Roman. The helmet (with its carve and noseguard), sandals instead of boots, and circular shield scream Greek. The cape and pleated kilty thing could go either way. -

All I've heard on the subject is that series 2 should have a larger production run and that series 3 and beyond won't have barcodes to use, but series 2 will. -

Yeah. Something about the aviators and what appears to be a ticket book reminds me of Super Troopers and highway troopers in general who take themselves too seriously. I love it! No need for more than one, though - it's definitely not an army-building fig. -

That's not what short selling means, but I'm not gonna argue semantics. In fact, I forget why we were even arguing! So about the figs! I really am looking forward to the cop in wave 2, though I imagine a lot of people are going to be going after the centurion. Oh, I also want a mariachi, but that's mainly so I can throw his poncho on the cowboy and have a Clint Eastwood! -

Cheerleaders, zombies, and ilk have already hit this and then some. The average price for a cheerleader is over seven dollars, and the average price they're actually selling for is $4.38. -

Someone hasn't been checking Bricklink prices! That is actually my favorite of Wave 2. Love the aviators. Keep in mind, they wanted these to be a fairly exclusive rarity from the start. Sure, they found that demand was higher than they expected, but wave 1 was the test case for these, so they'll learn from that. -

Sure. I just don't think I would have been able to walk out with the entire TRU's stock of a particular sought-after toy without feeling like a jerk, though. Perhaps I got good karma from that anyway, since I was able to get in on the LEGO site's no purchase limits thing. -

When I bought my first ten, I got to TRU right about when it opened so I had first crack at 'em. I used barcodes to grab a couple zombies and left the other 8 to chance. I didn't want to take all 60 (though I was tempted) because I figured there were some kids who had been waiting as long as I had. I later found out that someone walked in and cleared them out shortly after I left. I bet an awful lot of kids are going to have almost NO chance of getting a full set of these. -
Thank you for the fast response!

Seems they staggered the stock a bit while they were available to keep people from ordering silly numbers of them, at least. I don't think you'd have been able to add more than 100 to a cart at a time. Here's someone's post on a different forum while they were available with no limit this morning: -

I'm surprised they even lasted the 4 hours or so with no limits. -

Well I suppose we'll find out! I ordered 60 and I'll let you know in what fashion they arrive (if it's still relevant). Thanks for the heads-up, by the way! -
One suggestion, if I may - clicking an external link from a thread makes that new page open in the same window. Most forums make that new page open in a new tab or window, to keep you from accidentally navigating away from the thread you're reading. Something to consider, anyway!

It's a portmanteau - 'pollo' is Spanish for 'chicken'. If we're going for a truly generic fast food joint, consider red and yellow for the color scheme. Marketing research in that field has shown that those two colors are the most appetizing, which is why they're prominently featured by McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, and others. Plus, the red and yellow plays off the coloring on the brick-built chicken!

He comes with a giant wrench? Ahahaha, that's absolutely perfect. Somebody at TLG is a fan of terrible survival horror games. edit to explain: There's a really, really bad survival horror game called Illbleed for the Sega Dreamcast. Its 'mascot' is a crash test dummy wielding an oversized wrench.

I added up everyone in this thread who posted a list of all five sets by order of preference and assigned 5 points for first place and one point for last. By this system, the breakdown in this thread is as follows: 1. Green Grocer with 42 pts (28.2% of total) 2. Cafe Corner with 35 pts (23.5% of total) 3. Grand Emporium with 32 pts (21.5% of total) 4. Fire Brigade with 27 pts (18.1% of total) 5. Market Street with 13 pts (8.7% of total) Interestingly, CC actually overtakes GE if you rank them this way!

1. Green Grocer. It has a lot going for it - the asymmetrical build is brilliant and the layout makes a ton of sense. The archway area with stairs leading the the apartments and mailboxes for the residents makes this the most 'believable' building to me. The detailing is fantastic, especially the fully tiled floor of the store and the room furniture. The second story curtains look fantastic. Every time I started questioning "now why are they doing this..." while I was building it, it always turned into an "oh, I get it, that's amazing" moment. Also, the colors are amazing. 2. Fire Brigade. I loved this one from the moment I saw it. The large banks of windows on the second floor are lovely and the garage door is a very welcome and appropriate addition. I also like the brick texture on the second floor. On the other hand, the first floor is simply too tall and the band of gray it leaves around the gold helmet decor is visually uninteresting, so it's not perfect. I do like the truck everyone else seems to hate so much, though I think the set would have been better without it because it 'dates' the building too much. 3. Grand Emporium. The first floor is spectacular and I feel like they did everything right. The columns are interesting, the windows are great, and I love the mannequins. I also like how they did the escalators. Aside from that, I don't care for it all that much. The second and third floors are practically identical, which is appropriate for a building of this type, but boring both in build and in final form to me. I also don't like the billboard. I love how it's made, but I don't like that it's there for the same reason I don't like FB's fire truck's presence: it dates the building. Without the truck or the billboard, any of these buildings could be used to represent almost any decade in the 1900s. It also completely lacks detail in the rear, while both FB and GG did a great job there. 4. Cafe Corner. Yeah, it was revolutionary. Yeah, it gave way for all the other great sets. The fact remains that it was still an experiment when it dropped and they couldn't afford to be too risky with it, so it really lacks in detailing. No interiors, no rear decor. The middle floor looks odd and slightly out of place. On the bright side, the roof is very nicely done and the hotel sign is absolutely phenomenal - one of my favorite details in any of the modulars. The layout, like GG's, is nice and logical, too. I feel that it just really doesn't stand up to the others once you stop looking at it as "great for its time". Its innovation is still profound and I could easily see it reissued 10 or 20 years down the road, and I expect it'll be very valuable (read: expensive as hell if you missed out on it) very quickly. 5. Market Street. Sucks. A lot. Boring construction except for exactly two parts (front stairs and third floor windows). I like the idea of the paint wear, but in practice, it looks silly. The attached alley/market thing is just terrible. It's completely barren and the arched gate detail looks out of place and hokey. No interiors, of course. I understand it's not really in the same league as the others, but as long as it's gonna be put in a poll with them, I'm going to compare them directly and say that it pales by a severely wide margin. As a Creator/Factory set, it's great. As a modular, it's best ignored and we can all pretend it didn't happen.
-
Same here. When I first started buying the modulars, Market Street was still available, it just never really interested me. I recently made a .dat of the building in case I want to order the pieces for it through Brickshelf, but it really is weaker than the official non-factory ones. I'm not too torn up about missing it. On the other hand, I'd have been SERIOUSLY bummed if I missed out on CC or GG, so I think I made the right choice!

Eh, they're all pinned together and the overhanging part is just the sidewalk, which doesn't weigh anything. I don't lose sleep over it.
-
They look so good together, I gotta leave 'em! I just don't know what I'm gonna do in 2011.
-
Diggin' it in yellow. The smaller the car, the brighter the color you can get away with, ya know.

Little outdoor stage with a couple small stage monitors (though you probably wouldn't want to leave those outside)?
