Prune Face Grey Squadron Y-Wing Pilot with new helmet shape Nien Nunb Yavin rebel officers and dark tan rebel uniform from Yavin Cantina and Jabbas palace aliens

I think if you view the ship head on from the front or back the plate fins will look better, but from the side the brick version looks better. Since most of the time people will see it from a side angle the brick version probably wins out. I'm starting to understand that accuracy of shape doesn't always lead to a more pleasing end result in a Lego model, at least with the minifigure scale models. After all, the minifigures themselves don't have realistic proportions so why should the ships they inhabit? This was something I didn't get at first and looking back through old discussions on this forum I see that other people have made the same mistake.

Taking into consideration that this has around 3 times the parts of the 2010 lego version it is not cheap if you have to buy the whole thing. Out of interest I found a store in the EU with 85% of the parts in it and the total came to 144 euros, so I think your estimate of 165 euros is pretty much spot on. But I think it can be done for quite a bit cheaper if you are careful. I found 400 of the parts in my supplies and then sourced another 560 parts for only 30 euros. There is also the possibility to save money by buying the internal parts in cheaper colours, for example at least 26 of the headlights are internal. You can also swap out some of the more expensive plates like the 6x10 and 4x12 for much cheaper combinations of smaller parts. I happen to have a 20L copper hose. Is it considered bad form to cut 2x 8L out of it? If not, that is a cheaper and easier way of getting those.

Coming back to the Y-Wing I have been building up a wanted list in Bricklink. Most of it is easy to source with only a couple of bits being rare, namely: 75c08 Copper Hose, Rigid 3mm D. 8L / 6.4cm 30083 White Windscreen 6 x 6 x 3 Canopy Half Sphere with Hinge This is the first time I've bought something on Bricklink where I don't actually care if it is faded or discoloured, in fact it would be a bonus.

Thanks for the insight Krispy, it's very interesting. I realise that it is easy to just look at something and comment on the accuracy without understanding all the tradeoffs that go into it. Ultimately I'd trade a bit of accuracy so that the model doesn't fall apart every time it's touched.

Hi Krispy, thanks very much for making this available. One of the nice things about the A-Wing is the way it looks oval when viewed from the front. Although it is not possible to get it completely right with the available parts in lego, Jerac's version (and subsequently this one) at least have that oval look while the official Lego set doesn't even try to do it. For this reason alone it is far more accurate than the official set. I would be interested to know why you have deviated from Jerac in several places (for example the fins, engines, the gap in the front of the ship and the back part of the cockpit) because to my eye it looks like Jerac's version in all those places is the more accurate. You've ended up using a lot of different parts to the official set anyway so it wouldn't cost a whole lot more to buy the extra parts needed. I hope you don't think me pedantic, but the whole point of making something other than the official set is to improve the accuracy so it seems to me you might as well make it as accurate as possible.

That is great stuff, would it be possible to get the LDD file? I prefer the thinner back fins of Jerac's model but it is a real shame that he has to use those 2x2 rounded bottom studs (part 2654)

I would love to see how your A-Wing is done once it is complete.

Hi Brickwright, thanks again for taking the time to make the instructions, I will definitely post a picture of my build once it is complete. I've had my eye on Jerac's A-Wing but there are no instructions and it looks like a fairly complicated build. The only thing I've found of the interior is this shot which seems to be from a prototype. The TIE looks great and very accurate but it's a shame that there is no room for a pilot, but with Lego it seems you can never have everything!

I want ships that my son can play with (and me if I'm honest), but I like the accuracy and detail on these MOCs a lot more than the official sets. It takes much more effort to source all the parts but having only come back to Lego recently I am learning a lot from building these. The downside is that they are quite a bit more fragile than the official playsets which are obviously designed to be sturdy, but they look so cool that I hope my son will forgive me.

Yes, if you are using a computer there is a download button where you can get a PDF version.

I've been looking for a Y-Wing model to go with my Psiaki X-Wing and RenegadeClone B-Wing. I looked at several versions but when I came across this one by Brickwright I knew it was the one I wanted to build. So I asked him for a few breakaway shots of the model and instead he went and made full instructions and a parts list! They are available to download here. I will be ordering the parts I need soon and will see how it goes. Update: Brightwright has released a new version of his instructions as of September 2015, which can be downloaded here

[MOC] Minifig-scale B-Wing (with instructions and LDD)
TheBear replied to krispy's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Hi guys, here is my build 95% complete: I built to Krispy's specification and then as I mentioned above I modified the engine block to Renegade Clone's design so that I could attach the engines to the covers to make them more sturdy. I doubt I'll ever get 7 6x1 curved slopes in sand blue so I have had to settle for dark bluish grey on the back of the cockpit. The whole thing would be much easier to source in dark bluish grey (like the UCS model), but it does look better in sand blue. Thanks again for all your hard work to help us build this.- 125 replies

[MOC] Minifig-scale B-Wing (with instructions and LDD)
TheBear replied to krispy's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Here is a bit of feedback for Krispy. I found that the engines were falling off a lot. I noticed that in Regenade Clone's pictures at www.flickr.com/photos/29748559@N02/sets/72157632459315840/with/8355603699/ he connects the engines to the engine covers. I tried this with mine and the engines are much more sturdy and are not falling off at all. Unfortunately it requires a bit of reworking of the interior as the engine covers need to be connected to the body differently but that also makes the engine covers more sturdy and easier to put on. I'll post some pictures of mine once I get some more parts in the right colours.- 125 replies

[MOC] Minifig-scale B-Wing (with instructions and LDD)
TheBear replied to krispy's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I've also been slowly collecting the parts for this over the past few weeks. Those sand blue parts really are hard to find for someone in the UK! I would like to thank Regenade Clone + brother for the initial design and Krispy for all the hard work on making the instructions, it must have taken ages. This really is the best mini-figure scale b-wing out there and is worth all the effort.- 125 replies
