Star Wars: The Clone Wars: season 3 discussion
Clone OPatra replied to Corvus's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Um… what? I see what the magic part means (Mortis Trilogy, Nightsisters), but 'six?' Is that a euphemism there for another word with a very similar spelling? -
Well, that's downright pessimistic, and it sounds from that second comment that you're trying to start some sort of gang war, which to me doesn't seem very healthy either. I really don't know why you think this topic is useless; it seemed like a nice, healthy discussion to me so far. Perhaps it's going nowhere in your mind, but I enjoy reading about what people feel is the right level of accuracy in a SW MOC. I didn't mean it to be biased; that's why I didn't answer my own question. I'm not sure myself, although based upon m own feelings about accuracy I would say that getting too nit-picky on the minute (or in some cases, not as minute) details just gets tedious. But sometimes I find myself having a sudden change of mind. There have been times where I think 'this is a great MOC,' and then see a picture of the source material and think 'oh, that is way off.' I think what it really comes down to is being nit-picky in a positive way if you are going to at all, which can be quite a difficult task.

Fellows are not staff (except in the Community and Culture & Multimedia forums), and saying what you feel in this discussion cannot possibly be out of line. Although there have been many members (myself included, at times) who have not been happy with the way fallenangel has criticized at times, and even if def felt that way when he created the topic, this topic has spurred some good, healthy, bash-free discussion about the topic at hand, which is I'm sure what def really wanted. Don't take it as a bash on anybody; we're discussing this in here so that it doesn't end up cluttering other people's MOC topics. I do not agree with you that def meant that people do not actually want criticism. For some that may very well be true, but I am sure it is a very small number. I believe he simply meant that criticism should only be taken to a certain point, which is what this topic is all about. Should anybody really care that all precise angles from the source material be met in the MOC, and even if someone does, should they say so? That's what we've been discussing, in a sense.

I'll use a comparison to adequately explain how I feel about accuracy, inspired by something MetroiD said. Just like most LSW MOCs, many LEGO city vehicle MOCs are also based upon real things. However, given the general smoothness and roundness of real-world vehicles, it's impossible to get even near perfect in a City MOC that fits minifigures. In the case of City, a minifigure-size vehicle is a close enough approximation to a real vehicle that you can say 'Hey, I know what that is' but of course if you went and found a picture of the real vehicle the MOC wouldn't really look all that similar. The exact same should be true for SW MOCs of minifigure-size. The MOC should be an approximation of the 'real' vehicle that looks good, and that everybody can tell what it is. It should be good-looking however you define good looking, but it by no means should be able to hold up to a comparison picture of the 'real' vehicle. It's made out of pre-formed LEGO bricks; at the minifigure-scale, there's just no way it can be accurate. The larger scale is a different matter. If your going to go UCS, you might as well get as close to those angles as you possibly can.

I always wondered what the Ewoks really wanted Leia for… Ewok Action

Don't worry KimT, that's the most explicit I will get, although that was pretty graphic as LEGO goes.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: season 3 discussion
Clone OPatra replied to Corvus's topic in Culture & Multimedia
No, I think you were supposed to assume that he was chatting with them. I actually found their little tilt down to him a clever thing to do. It made you think "Oh, why isn't Yoda talking to the Wookiees?" and then "Oh, he was actually." What I didn't understand about the ending was why all of the Wookiees would go back to Coruscant with the Padawans. Surely the Wookiees (including what might have been Tarful) have better things to do then ride on back to Coruscant? That didn't make much sense to me. -
I think I already started leaning in that direction over a month ago. But these new ones certainly take it to the next level.

Viking horn in yellow (from Smash 'N' Grab). The banana is way too huge… even to use as a banana!

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: season 3 discussion
Clone OPatra replied to Corvus's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Well, besides for EU sources (perhaps?) we have never seen Wookiee space ships, just Wookiee planetary flying machines. It doesn't make any sense for them to bring in the Halo, but it wasn't too bad seeing it. And how do both Ahsoka and Sugi happen to speak Wookiee? Sugi maybe since it would make sense that she's been all around the galaxy, but Ahsoka understanding the language was a bit strange. -
Things have certainly been getting… steamy, in here lately. So I've finally made some new ones, and they're all a bit… explicit. Exercise caution, if that's how you roll. Biggs

This is a very fun discussion! Battlepacks are about the only SW sets that I actually buy anymore, and it's great fun to compare them all. Coming out with a new set of opposing battlepacks each January is one of the best thing LEGO ever did with the SW line. Anyway, my picks: Minifigs - 7655 Clone Troopers Battle Pack. Maybe it's just because it was the original Clone BP, but the Phase II helmets are lovely and the Shocktrooper is probably my favorite Clone of all. Compared to the newer Clones, the printing on the Shocktrooper is quite simplistic, but I loved it at the time and still do. Pieces - I'm not so sure. I'm not much of a builder at all, so it's hard for me to judge. Based on just parts that I like, I would go with 7913 due to the long white tiles, white skis, plates, etc. Design - 7667 Imperial Dropship. Though I love the BARC in the latest Clone BP, the dropship will always be my favorite, I think. It's not based on any source material I don't believe, but TLG did a wonderful job at inventing a ship that fits into the universe anyway. It's a nice little flier in and of itself, even outside of the SW theme, but it fits in nicely and has a fun function. The little wheels used as engines are a nice choice, and I like the effect of the bubble cockpit on the front even though it displaces any space there would've been for controls. All in all, I love that dropship (and the fact that it came with better-designed stormies and a blackhole stomrie!).

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: season 3 discussion

Huh, I wondered why there hadn't been immediate buzz about it immediately after last Friday night. I always watch it online, so I had no idea. In any case, I'm interested to see what they'll bring next season, but the show is always disjointed. It's just a collection of small stories, and the way they are arranged in the seasons doesn't make much difference. Hopefully, next season will open with Savage being off on his 'journey;' that at least might be interesting. -
You people are so uncultured http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD2LRROpph0 Enjoy!

That's so wonderful! Yes, I get it and love it. Commenting on up-to-the-minute pop culture is the best!

Actually, Johnny Thunder Orient Expedition was also a "card theme," with cards coming in all but the $4 sets. What would be the problem if there were cards in all the sets? More action fun for the kiddies when they play their spinner game.

Lego Spongebob Squarepants 2011 Discussion Thread
Clone OPatra replied to buddy's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'm sorry to say that at this point I feel these sets are a total afterthought to the figures. I may have held out a long time saying that the superhero-boat-car wasn't so bad, but I can't deny what a piece of junk it is any long. That vehicle hurts my eyes. There are no seats built into the craft; it seems the figures will literally just sit on top of it, at the same height as the windshield. The huge <insert that tiresome argument> piece on there doesn't bother me in and of itself, but it makes the entire things extremely stupid. And Glove World basically consists of a bad turnstile and a thing that spins around in a circle. Not much playability there even. I thought the last wave was stupid because it was basically reissues of older sets with a few different things, but this is much worse. -
No, I feel that Fallen posted a legitimate question for discussion, and people have been giving it their reasoned answers. There's nothing wrong with that; people are allowed to share their opinions about why the PT disappoints them. Star Wars is Star Wars. Some of the acting in the PT and many whole episodes of the CW sow make me stick in the stomach, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't watch it. I watch because I like the universe and I'm interested to see what Lucas is doing with his own creations, even though there are many EU writers who are far more inventive and contribute far better additions to the SW universe as a whole. Bashing any part without reason is not to be tolerated, but I haven't seen that going on lately. You may not agree, but people are allowed to think that many aspects of the PT are downright stupid.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: season 3 discussion
Clone OPatra replied to Corvus's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Uh, so what happened to something actually exciting happening, Dave? Nobody died, there were no big revelations, nothing unexpected… that arc ended just as I would've predicted it to end, which isn't necessarily a good thing. I would've liked something a bit 'new' to cap off the season, but I guess that's not what a finale is for. In retrospect, this was a very good season, and probably the best yet. Besides for getting muddled with Senate episodes and the terrible Mortis arc, the rest was very well done and even showed a little character development. Honestly that's all you could ask for from the CW. As for the tagline of 'Secrets Revealed,' well… we already knew from season two that the season tagline doesn't mean much. It seems like the only secrets they thought they were revealing were in the Mortis arc, and that in my mind was the worst part of this season. Season two wasn't so heavily focused on Bounty Hunters anyway. Hopefully season four will bring even more little changes. -
Action Theme Funnies

Let's get this rolling! There's just so much material here; and I love JT. 2nd Doc -
If you don't mind, I'd like to turn this into a 'Flickr Community' thread, which is basically what I think you had in mind anyway. Do you mind if I rename your topic to better reflect a discussion about how to participate in the Flickr community?

Although these look very cute from the pictures, I'd like to see what they look like in "actual form." I'm not attempting to bash it at all, but plenty of companies (including TLG) use CG pictures to make things look better than they really are. I'd just like to see what these figures will turn out looking like in real life.

If you could pick one Star Wars Set to own
Clone OPatra replied to thegurumb's topic in LEGO Star Wars
He is obviously employing hyperbole. No one thinks you literally said 'half a degree.' It's exaggerated for emphasis. As for which Star Wars set I would like to own, the Death Star (not DSII mass of gray plates) is my clear choice. This set is the epitome of awesomeness in a SW set; not some rehashed vehicle but a massive playset like no other with a ton of awesome minifigs to boot. I love the playsets that I can afford such as the 7666 and Battle of Endor despite their flaws, but the DS is a playset on steroids! Alas, it was and is way out of my price range, but this topic is for dreams! -
I certainly understand that opinion, though I just thought classic-style SW was being left out. Although it's all fleshie these days and has been since 2004, this Star Wars forum and so the blog as well include all facets of LEGO SW including the classic stuff, even though it's become a 'relic of the past.' I thought the old-style sets and figs should get a little time in the spotlight, although it certainly isn't a banner that represents the entire blog. All of these banners are great for different purposes, but I feel Rufus' banner makes the best 'default,' so to speak. Rufus' banner nicely balances all of the areas of LEGO SW, as well as just looking awesome as a design piece. Judging based on best representation of this forum and the blog as a whole, Rufus' banner clearly wins in my book.
