I think much of this sentiment stems from the tone of many of the comics which, in comparison to the cartoons, usually maintained a more mature storyline. This mainly applies to G1, but it was also apparent in Armada/Energon. As for probably the best of the cartoon shows, (Beast Wars/Machines, Animated) I won't deny they've had their goofball moments, but all were able to maintain a serious enough overarching plot with character development that didn't confuse the kids, and kept the older fans interested. As for ROTF, I went in keeping my expectations fairly low, because I knew what to expect. While it was fun, (I actually enjoyed it more than the first.) more often than not, I felt it used explosions poor humor, and annoying as hell characters to overshadow some of the more interesting aspects of the movie continuity. This also seemed to affect a problem I had with the first movie, which was that I didn't even get a feel for many of the Transformers individually. I thought this would be less of a problem seeing as they narrowed down the human-based sub-plots, but again, at least more than half of the Autobots and Decepticons had next to no speaking lines, or even had their name mentioned at all. (I'm looking at you Jolt. You giant plot-device with no screen time... ) I think it's just that after Comic/Toy based action movies such as Iron Man and the Dark Knight, the hardcore set's standards for these types of movies has been raised, and many TF fans (including me) want some amount of respectability toward their franchise of choice. (Soulless cash cow doesn't count.) Even I'll agree Transformers doesn't need a deep, artsy storyline, but I'd like to think it's capable of producing a film with a fair balance of action and development at least on par with Iron Man. ...just my two cents.

Despite me not really being a town guy, this just looks like a really stellar build. I was really surprised at how they did the snot numbers in such a complex way. Might look nice next to my Green Grocer some day... Nice review by the way.

Because the world needs more combining mecha. Enjoy.

So I found my brick separator recently. After giggling about how I never use it, I saw a passing resemblance to a beaver tail, and thus this quick little MOC. Enjoy!

I just had to do something with that racer I found in my mourning box-o Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Enjoy!

Thanks all! Yeah, it's a challenge to get everything looking right in both modes. Never really thought about a roof though... it'd probably work too. I agree it was a pretty great movie. All action, and intensity with fairly little redeeming value. It was just... fun. Totally worth going at midnight. As for the car, I agree it isn't stellar. I'm just glad everything covers up alright. I suppose it's just a bit thin. Perhaps the tallness of the helmet throws it off just a bit. I was trying to stray away from that "overly blocky", or featureless style I've seen in many a Transformoc. I dunno. I would like to give Hound a Decepticon to play with, and Soundwave is one of my favorites. But I've had my eyes on Bludgeon for whatever reason... Probably because I've never seen it done properly before. Only time will tell...

First MOC I've actually completed in awhile. As the description implies, it's a fully functional Transformer loosely base on the G1 character "Hound". Text is cheap, how bout some pics? Plenty more pics on flickr. (photostream order is messed up for whatever reason, try set order) Enjoy

Aaaand we're back... again. Probably just more maintenance I guess. I'm grateful for them keeping it up and all, but I seem to end up on flickr more and more lately...

If you could revive any one dead theme...
optimus-convoy replied to Darth Legolas's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Definitely Ninja. That was a fun little theme. Exo-Force comes a close second for me, but only if the mecha were a bit more elegantly designed. Or perhaps Ninja, with Exo-Force styled minifigs? Boy would that piss some people off. -
That's quite the reproduction. I actually still have one of those. Seems like you could fit the zoo sign with some clever SNOT. As for the trailer hitch, you could replace the technic bricks with these to get rid of the grey pins. Other than that, I can't really think of a more elegant solution.

TUTORIAL: Decal application
optimus-convoy replied to Hinckley's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thanks much for the tutorial. I've been experimenting with decals recently (to less than stellar results). This should help me greatly. -
Heh, looks pretty good for being stupid and lame. The first few are quite impressive in that they look just like the real thing especially Malum and Vorox. Though I really do like the more stylized ones like Nhidiki, Mata Nui, and that Karzahni in the other thread. Those two at the end intrigued me quite a bit, even if I didn't exactly now what was going on. I couldn't seem to get my eyes off that butt in the second one... it's quite distracting.

Honestly I've been more psyched for the new season of Animated lately, but that trailer is looking... pretty hot. (ZOMG, Ravage. ) If nothing else, hopefully it'll be an enjoyable movie like the last one. All I hope for is more bot action. (especially if it's going to be as long as the first one.) I know they were getting the whole thing set up, but it just took way too long to get to the whole Transformers thing. I also wanna see more personality from the bots. I mean in the last one all I really saw anything out of was Prime, Bumblebee and Frenzy (lol). Jazz was just a walking stereotype, Ironhide and Ratchet just kinda hung out in the background, and all the other Decepitcons were just... "Grr, I is Evil". Hopefully with The Fallen coming into play there'll be more insight on the faction in general. But since it's a Bay flick, I'll just settle for some giant robots, and explosions.

I felt I was overdue for a Bionicle MOC, so this came to fruition. Null really doesn't have much of a personality, which makes him pretty bad at parties. He tries to hide any and all weakness with excessive amounts of guns, swords, and incredibly fashionable clothing. Great figs all around. I particularly like what you did with The Warriors of Light, Rydia, Squall, and freelancer Bartz. Edge seemed to turn out pretty well, but those eyelashes still creep me out. With many of the figs (mainly the post-Amano ones) I can't help but feel their hair isn't "spikey" enough, but I suppose that's Lego's fault for producing so few gravity-defying hair molds. Ever see these? They would make for a spot-on Cloud. Can't wait to see what else you come up with.

That's some wild and crazy stuff... Baranus is definitely something different, the design doesn't look too bad. The colors do seem a bit off though. I thought The Biker duo Kaxium was awfully random when I first saw it, but as a set alone it seems to hold up pretty well. Skoplo, I like. It must be the resemblance to some quadruped mecha, or something. And Thornatus... is just kinda there. Looks more like leftovers from last years jet-fest than anything else. All in all, they're definitely getting more creative this year. I can't really decide whether that's a good thing or not, but seeing as they're all extremely highly priced I'll probably just turn my attention to the canisters, Space Police, or Indy anyway.

I actually took pics of these guys long ago, forgot about them, then just recently remembered. Anyway, these are just a few bots I've had sitting around my desk for awhile. They were mostly just weird experiments with parts. 01 Skinny 02 Punching-Bot 03 Otto-Bot 04 Piggy Enjoy

The only one who could vanquish Chuck Norris would be his creator! Captain Falcon! Not even Chuck Norris himself could take a Falcon Punch to the gut.

Transformers G1 Starscream (Abandoned MOC)
optimus-convoy replied to WetWired's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
That's quite a well done likeness, even if it is just a glorified action master. I kid, though I'd have to agree with Jinzo on the elbows and knees. Moreso the knees since they're more noticeable. Nonetheless, it's still a great crack at good ol' Screamer. I feel your pain with the whole face problem. I too had pipedreams of making a Transformer out of Lego. Optimus believe it or not. The best idea I got for heads was this. It kinda works with maskless TFs if you replace the mask with a few plates, and tilt one at a 45 degree angle for a nose, but still it's pretty slim pickings. -
Oh wow. I'm liking what I see so far. The space police vehicle design seems to be headed in the right direction. The inclusion of a space hot rod is pretty wack, makes me wonder what other vehicles the squidmen might use. It's also nice to see the switch back to minifig-based aliens, they seem pretty reminiscent of the UFO figs. I recall hearing somewhere that Lego designed lines over a year or so in advance. I'd assume with a (summer was it?) release, they'd almost have this line in production by now.

Just a little something I did for fun to break my streak of not Mocing. For those not in the know, the Roflcopter was a simple animation created by some uncredited person on the internet. It has since become extremely overused classic among 1337-speaking kids savvy internet-goers. Flickr BS Chao,

That's a nice bit of nostalgia there. Incidentally, Tahu was my first Bionicle as well, he's also one of the only canister sets I've kept together. They were such a big step above Throwbots/Roboriders back in the day. They actually had nicely shaped heads, and faces even. Looking back, I think what the Mata lack in articulation, they make up for in aesthetics. It may just be the nostalgia talking, but the Mata still look a lot more appealing to me than anything released since the Metru.

I gotta say, all these human/beast hybrids have been quite interesting, even if they are a bit disturbing... It really takes a unique mind to come up with stuff like this. Can't wait to see what else you have in store. I concur! I'm quite curious as to what arrangement you have going on back there. Unless you don't want to give away any of your secrets.

Those all just look really well made. It's nice to see something visually interesting in a theme of MOC that can get a bit uninspiring after awhile. I really love all the angles on them, especially on the Stargazer, makes em look mighty swooshable.
