  1. "That barbarian's quite the social butterfly," Skrall thought to himself as Alf went and introduced himself to half a dozen other people, by the time the ogre had finished his introduction. Haldor had returned and so had Nur, but both had gone their separate ways. "No matter," he thought to himself. Skrall waltzed down the stairs {if an ogre could waltz} and decided to sign his name under Quest 9: Trespassers. He wasn't good around children, heck that was part of the reason he had left home in the first place. Constantly nagging and getting into messes, it amazed the ogre how these humans were so enraptured with one another, could they be so blind to the long term nature of their emotions. True Skrall sometimes missed his mate, but she and the children were better off without him for the moment, and probably more well off thanks to his new employment here at the hall. Skrall returned to and sat back down at his table, closed his eyes, and reflected on the first time he had set eyes on Hamair Redlocks.
  2. OOC: The sign-up sheet is penned in alchemical telepathic ink, so stop confusing it. Sorry about that
  3. No more than Sylph's bat, Owen's hawk, Daggerfall's hound, or Atramor's McCafferey do, though none of them have been known to carry on a conversation. It may present some difficulty for quests like Zepher's where the heroes have been stripped of all their items and such but I'll let Sandy have the final word on it. I will admit that it's a good solution to the "magical shrinking purse" cop-out. I can't wait for closer pictures, is the figure transparent or is it a brick-built body?
  4. Those signed up for Quest 11 currently include: Quest 11: A Matter of Principle 1. Ellaria Arbour, Level 6 Cleric (Sandy) 2. Dyric Rone, Level 1 Rogue (The Legonater) 3. Elgar Gligen, Level 1 Ranger (Jedi Master Brick) 4. Sir Glorfindel, Level 1 Knight (Soccerkid6) 5. Atramor Gibbin, Level 7 Rogue (CallMePieORDie) 6. Alf Gregory, Level 1 Barbarian (Bricksandparts) 7. Hoke Ablesword, Level 6 Knight (UsernameMDM) 8. En Sabeh Nur, Level 4 Mage (Jebediahs) 9. Alexis Fenral, Level 11.5 Ranger (Masked Builder) 10. Tarn Valco, Level 6 Barbarian (Rumble Strike) OOC: Let me know if I've missed anyone.
  5. Don't forget about his two shady friends Skrall and Nur, we wolfpack supporters got to stick together
  6. Skrall lifted the edge of his downward tilted hat, inspecting the newcomer. "Ah you're the barbarian who fell over the banister earlier and who was so concerned about the reward money from the newest quest, aye? The name's Skrall" the ogre stretched attempting to no knock over any nearby chairs or set off his loaded crossbow. "I'm from the far South, I was in the highway-ogre business but heroing pays better for the moment. As to the quest, it turned out to be quite a sham. That town watch is more corrupt then the wolfpack themselves, it was like workin' for Zoot to catch ol' Tarok. But I can't complain, I got a fair share of the loot and its enough to send back home for a little bit."
  7. Skrall sighed over at his table. Things were getting louder in the Hall and he'd soon have to retreat to the library if he wanted some peace and quiet.
  8. After conversing with the barbarian, Skrall ascended the stairs to the bar, the bar maid had apparently missed his question, but it didn't matter to him, sooner or later he would find out where he had seen her before. Going over to a quieter end of the hall, Skrall seated himself and proceeded to smoke some of his sour-smelling weed. He half closed his eyes and listened to the drone of the conversations going on around him. As he relaxed the ogre fingered the trigger of his newly acquired crossbow, it was an ingenious piece of mechanization and would serve him well in a tight spot.
  9. Skrall approached the Barbarian inspecting the quest Board. "The gold's to be split between the party members is my understandin'. I was the one who brought the notice in. I saw it hangin' up in the fish market durin' my last quest and I thought it might have better chance of bein' taken notice of here."
  10. So, similar to using an item in battle, could someone choose simply to not attack at all during a fight?
  11. Skrall squeezed his way into the crowding hall that was again alive with the return of victorious heroes. He smelled of rotten fish and had several tears in his tunic as he approached the quest board and tacked up a notice. He smiled contentedly knowing that he had done his part. Skrall wearily walked up the stairs noticing the new likeness of the hall's inhabitants that hung framed among the host of other interesting items that littered the walls of the Heroica Hall. "Hmmph... darn magic users, can't expect 'em to tell the difference betwixt a green feather and a blue one," he muttered to himself. Skrall saddled up to the bar and ordered a drink from the orc bar maid. "Excuse me miss, I'll take a tankard of strong ale and some warm stew if you got it. By the way, I don't think I've ever caught yer name. Ya wouldn't have ever worked in a tavern down by Draida Bay by any chance, would ya ?" Skrall then lowered his voice to a whisper, "Oh and if ya get a chance, do ya think ya could mention to whomever does the official announcin' round here, that I've got news of a new quest on the board downstairs?"
  12. I think the question was whether or not clerics can heal themselves outside of battle, not to whether clerics can heal at all outside of battle. Personally I sort of agree with Scorpiox in that each class has it's unique ability for example the barbarians. Comparatively mages could expend an ether utilizing their magic upon themselves so I don't see why clerics could not do the same. At least from a contextual viewpoint, unless the cleric is knocked out, his deity/faith/mystical power should be able to heal him from any wounds he sustained in battle. I agree that potions do not seem to be used that often, especially when you have more than one cleric in a party and they have ether to spare, however this may be varying from quest to quest. In my most recent quest we used both clerical healing and potions, due to our cleric having a limited amount of ether with no hopes of restoring it at any point.
  13. I agree with the continuity of only beasts and monsters being reserved for the Beastiary and more character roles being reserved for this almanac that you speak of, even though the inclusion of humanoid enemies somewhat straddles both sides of the fence I believe they belong for contextual sake in the beastiary. Leaving out exact stats should be fine, though I think you should include special abilities (possibly integrate into the flavor text) just to give a better idea of the monster. Speaking of quests sinking into the far pages of the board, would it be beneficial to have Heroica be added as a subfolder to the Wargames and Mafia Games folder, similar to the Pirate Moc's Subfolder? We already have 14-15 topics and there are more to come. I know that the library links to the individual quests, but at least for me I would find it more convenient to have 3 quests and discussion topics that I am keeping track of all in one subfolder instead of sprinkled between all the rest of the topics. Not that I don't enjoy reading the mafia games either though
  14. Skrall sat up from the bench where he had fallen asleep, he slowly stretched and took note of his surroundings. "Seems like a new quest has been posted," he thought to himself as he trod down the stairs for a closer inspection. After reading the description a smile of remembrance appeared on the ogre's face. He quickly gathered his belongings and strode out the door, he would leave his fellow more inexperienced rangers with the opportunity of Hinckwell employment for the moment. He had remembered something he had noticed during his recent chase of the thief Donny Dozenhands and he hoped his investigation would also herald the arrival of a new quest as well.
  15. Not a bit, as has already been defined, heroes do not derive the same special abilities/effects/weaknesses/strengths as their enemy counterparts and vice versa, so the skeleton warrior takes damage the exact same way as any of the rest of us, though Dragon Warrior, you should have +1 potion in your inventory, and it helps the QM's if you include the weapon and shielding power of your items in your signature. Welcome aboard.
  16. "That homely cottage in Waldruck!" Skrall suddenly exlaimed, "No, hmmm... that wasn't it either. Sod, why is it always the memory's the first to go?" he muttered to himself. Peering over the bar to the floor below, Skrall noticed the commotion being stirred up by a new comer to the hall, an undead one at that. Skrall ordered a leg of mutton and sat back down at his table. "Things are startin' to get interestin'," he thought to himself, "I wonder what that Boomin'ham fella would have to say about this."
  17. True he could not have a light elemental burst, but he could have one with one of his other random gems, though I am not sure of the exact damage.
  18. It's not necessarily in the rules that you must have a diverse party, it's up to the individual QM if they want to craft a quest that is class specific. So theoretically a quest involving only knights and clerics is allowable. I believe the Paladin is actually an advanced class that will be available once a knight or cleric reaches level 15, we shall have to wait and see though:moar:
  19. I'm planning on the first service only enabling 1 item to be stored, otherwise it would be overkill, and way to complicated for QM's to keep track of. Good point about the price I may jack it up a little, it's the balance of weighing the benefits with the costs. There haven't been that many battles that last a ton of rounds (until now cralegoboy) where the party members would have wanted to use an item mid-battle, so maybe this service will be superfluous, but we'll give it a shot. The point of the first two mechanics would allow for people holding onto specific weapons for a while and upgrading it should they so chose, instead of this constant acquiring a new weapon every quest mentality. I may take your suggestion Jebediahs and increase the cost, currently there is an average of 6 battles per quest, this would amount to 6 venoms per quest and thus 30 gold per quest spent on venom (excluding drops) so at this rate an individual with a poisoned blade would pay for itself after 1.33 quests. Since the average player is likely to only heavily participate in 3 quests, they will spend the majority of their time with (basically) an unlimited supply of venom. I could go into the graphing and limit behavior but I'll save us the fun of it:tongue: Therefore I think I'll increase the cost to two thirds of the average players playing experience, thus 60 gold worth of venom plus the initial venom and a service charge equals 75 Gold. We still have yet to see the full consequences of effect-weapons, the only one in existence I believe is the lullaby wand that Quarryman's character uses, so time will tell. Since most people splurge on items and upgrades before quests begin, the third service will give my upcoming party a chance to buy some pretty interesting items/services mid-quest, though they will have to pay for that luxury
  20. It's good to see great minds thinking alike. You'll be seeing them sooner than you think
  21. So a few game mechanics I've pondering upon for a future quest, but I wanted to get some feedback on them first. All of these would be service that may be purchased at local businesses during a quest, just like in the marketplace. • Hollow Blade: A glass tube is inserted within a weapon allowing an item such as a potion/grand potion, mead, tonic/grand tonic, remedy, elixir, phoenix essence, etc. to be stored in the hilt, allowing for use at anytime during the battle without costing a turn, i.e. the player may use a potion if it has been stored in the weapon without sacrificing his turn. Costs 35 Gold. • Upgrade to Poison Blade: A seedy individual will permanently instill a poison effect onto an individual’s weapon. Costs 35 Gold and 1 Venom. • Loan-Shark: A seedy individual will loan an amount of money at 25% interest, up to -- gold for the entirety of the quest. The individuals must repay him by the end of the quest or be forced to sacrifice their inventory to make up the difference at the end. If the party fails, they will only have to give up any items they bought during the quest with the loaner's money.
  22. "Werewolves ya say? I've heard of a group that's been going round lately in town collectin' insurance money from local businesses. Perhaps you'll get to have another go at some of 'em soon."
  23. Skrall laughe aloud at the bar maids out burst, "Hmmm... maybe it was the tavern at Driada Bay, the wench there packed a pretty fair punch herself. Maybe one day I'll firgure it out," Skrall thought to himself. Turning to the redenned Ranger Skrall comforted the poor chap. "Don't dwell on it to much, my good sir, take a seat. Now a ranger ya call me, well I guess that's true to the point of my carrying a bow, but that's 'bout where the similarities stop I'm afraid. I'm a highway-ogre by trade, robbin' the rich and givin' to the poor. You've no idea how much one's siblin's can rack up in university costs and pollitical campaign bills these days, it almost bankrupts my Ram and Dam back home. But enough about me, where do you hail from and what brings you to this hall?"
  24. "Yes sir, the town watch was havin' trouble with a pick pocket so they sent us after him."
  25. "Ah so yer in the "it takes a rogue to catch a rogue" business is that it? I used to be a rogue of sorts myself, me and my merry orcs would rob those snobish races who put on airs and the like and then send their valuable that they had kindly donated to our poor oppressed families back home."
