  1. Maybe this thread was introduced to intentionally make us stop reading threads.... Wait... Uh. Never mind.
  2. I plan to budget for the CC and GG later in the year myself. I personally am going to try to get them with the instructions and box. Not new. Yeah I know I can save doing the BL thing, but that being said I don't consider it a real set that way. (I know this can turn into a giant argument ) Plus I always have it in the back of my head it is "unlikely" those two sets will ever lose a ton of value if I had some kind of real life emergency.
  3. Ah, I guess I see where you are coming from. I think I like the display factor, and I'm fairly sure the LG knows ships tend to sell well. So it was a way to sneak one in. For a display factor ill likely eventually get several. I saw somewhere else that the dead had a bunch of glow In the dark parts (helms arms faces etc) and if true will be too cool. I can't imagine picking up extra dead folks will be cheap :( .
  4. I got an email awhile back that my wife's VIP points were about to expire. (She signed up at Disney when I wasn't there to use mine) It said that two years were about to pass. So yes, two years. However if your balance keeps changing I'm not sure if points continue to "age". Personally I end up with about $100 worth of points and the I can't help using them.
  5. I don't understand why everyone is down on the corsair. Is a cool looking ship IMO.
  6. We don't have much in the Lego shop area, besides Walmart and Kmart. I think I'll put up some flyer and maybe try to advertise at the library when they do some Lego things. I don't think we have the size of town for an expo, but might be able to put something together at the mentioned library.
  7. Maybe keep your theory to a single thread and it will be better received, at least so far as people listening.
  8. I may end up buying Lone Ranger just because it seems like it might be a source of the browns and red pieces. And there is another reason even the less popular stuff sells.
  9. The financials in the last few years of the lego group suggest they know what they are doing. They are expanding quite well.
  10. This should end up an interesting read of the thread with a first post like that. You would need to add actually reasons for what you suggest.... Counterpoints... I'm not sure the Statue of Liberty would be that popular as a second release besides just for the speculators to sell later... Same with an another carousel. Elko village would be a decent collectors series set... Would need to be BIG though. City Zoo. Also a good choice, also needs to be big....OR a modular series of smaller sets. New historic set. As posted elsewhere using any non-generic theme based on the real world would offend some group somewhere. Hobbit and LOTR. You may as well give it up. It's popular, it sells, and there are movies coming. And it's decent design. If you don't care for the material, don't buy it. Lone Ranger I also personally didn't understand, but there are western fans out there. I wouldn't expect a second set run. Super heros, I think they are stretching for material and it takes up a ton of floor space in stores... BUT kids love super heros and parent but for the kids... You are also out of luck here. Galaxy squad, I have never cared much for the space themes, but I'm guessing they sell. Star Wars, I have noticed a whole lot of ships with just minor changes. Seems lazy to just swap some colors and rerelease. Also 3 or 4 issues of the same ship... Meh. Castle this year does seem juvenile. I'm hoping for a few lego shop only sets later this year more like the joust or village.
  11. I picked this up today pretty much for the horses and the coach. As mostly a castle theme person I wanted the coach as ill sub out the red pieces with black or brown and it will look great. As for the mini figs, while they are well designed (and you get 5 with a 30 buck set), they don't fit with the rest of my stuff and they should be finding a new home fairly soon. Just can't decide if I need another coach.
  12. Someone with the stagecoach... How many unique pieces are there? I'm thinking of grabbing the set and then building a few of them in more neutral colors, so I'm curious what I'm looking at as far and new pieces.
  13. Hey, was considering starting a local lego club and was looking for info on how others may have gone about it. If there is another place here it's discussed drop a link and I can end up in the right place. How do people usually go about it? Is there a larger organization in the US and then you become a chapter? What kinds of things do the clubs do at meetings? What kind of age rage do you shoot for if you want to keep adults? We are in a community of about 60 thousand. Would this be big enough to draw from?
  14. It does suck for sure. However very few products are priced based on the wage of the country. I does however have to do with currency exchange, transportation costs, duties charged by the receiving country, etc PLUS the markup the end seller charges. If you shop at TRU in the US they charge 20-30 % extra. And then most places have sales tax on top of it. On these larger sets... Can money be saved by having someone in the US buy it and ship it too you? I'm honestly curious because I don't know what you end up paying customs/VAT etc.
  15. It used to be due to currency fluctuation. There have been times in the recent past that the us/Canada conversion was 70%ish so you would see (especially in books CDs etc) the dual pricing. Currently the conversion is 1us dollar to 1.02 Canadian dollars. This isn't always the case and I think somehow it is due to this. It could change again making the MSRP make more sense.
  16. When I originally saw the set I thought it looked too small to be the gate.. Putting two together makes sense, but is a cheap way to increase sales by TLG. (And I don't mean cheap for the consumer)
  17. With TRU marking stuff up the way they do you would be getting it for normal retail.
  18. Has the Oregon Lego store changed the selection? I have some family in the general area id like to send over to get me some cups (i live in Nevada) but Id kinda need to tell them what to get me. Also... do members here who live near the stores ever help others get them? Would it be cost effective to have someone get say.... 4 or 5 cups and then mail them out? I visit family in Oregon a couple times a year... my my addiction calls for pieces calls for more!
  19. I don't think i personally have ever seen a $200 set in a wal-mart store. They might have them online but I don't shop wal-mart online. I really only buy clearance Lego at wal-mart. If im paying full retail for a set im going to get VIP points for doing it (and getting my S&H totals high enough to qualify for the occasional cool stuff they will mail you). I spend a ton on lego now and i dont like to add to the cost with shipping or tax if I can help it. That said... Im looking at Orthanc, several (if not 3 or 4) of the corsairs, and one of each other set... PLUS some of the castle sets, plus the modular fire brigade before they retire it, plus whatever modular is new for this year, plus whatever surprises they have in store for us makes for one expensive year. Better start on that overtime at work now.
  20. 'I think the new sets aren't too bad. Not up to par with the Joust or Market but passable for what i call "general consumption". id really like to see a Collectors series castle set. Something in the 2000-2500 piece range. Preferably a castle.
  21. Managed to pick up a local buy... Out someone's garage 7946 Kings Castle with box 6090 Royal Kings Castle with box 7894 Airport with box 4748 Alpha Team 6270 Pirates Forbidden Island with box 7133 Bounty Hunter Pursuit 7257 Ultimate Lightsabre Duel For about 200. I doubt I'll keep anything besides the castle sets but didn't feel like leaving it in a garage. Also picked up a Goblin King Battle off eBay for 47.00 shipped.
  22. I removed the steps requiring I share or get rid of lego.
  23. Greetings, my ten step lego program has me on lego forums now. My primary interest is in "castle" type sets and loose minifigs, but I have quite nicely managed to rationalize monster fighters, and the creator modular buildings into the castle theme. Not sure how the Star Wars ones got in my house, but I blame the kids... Must have been them. My favorite past time is to find lego at garage sales or private in town sales. It buy a fair amount of mostly complete sets online or in town and then finish them off from my parts library. It's becoming a family addiction with the girls into Friends and Star Wars (because the boys like it) and the wife being indoctrinated with the creator houses and modular sets. It works... If the wife wants a 150.00 set then I should get one too.... Right? Anyhow.. Nice to find a decent place to chat. Hope to use the forums for parts trades down the road. Tom... And co.
