The vig is optional. But they are not Expanded Universe as they are in the opening of the Star Wars license. Other authors wrote the stories in the Expanded Universe. The books you reference are written by JK Rowling and are therefore considered canon. It's hard to pretend the vig isn't there, isn't it?

Are you building an original Hogwarts Express? If not, don't put the official set in the pictures. If so, is the whole thing under 1000 pieces? It is best to post your Hogsmeade MOC and then add pictures of it with the Hogwarts Express after the close of the contest or in your flickr photostream, but not posted in your entry thread. Cool? (Of course, once the contest concludes, you can add the pics of the station with the train to the thread you've already posted as opposed to starting a new one.)

That is the worst possible result we could've gotten from a night. I don't even know where to begin to sort everything back out or what bearing my list has on anything. One thing I do know for sure, the turn on The King of Delalaware and Chief Washing Bear was initiated by one person. I vote: Mr. Nowhere/Scouts. Either. You can easily make a studio out of poster board or a white sheet you have laying around the house. If not, take it outside and do natural lighting in a natural setting. The iPod touch has a pretty good camera, so just as long as the picture is good quality it should be fine.

It should be only one building. But if a location is two buildings, I may let it pass on a case by case basis. If you are doing Tom Riddle's house, you may put the house and an outlying shed in the same creation. Or if there are two stores in Hogsmeade that are attached, but you can't build the entire town of Hogsmeade for your entry.

Harry Potter Original Wizard Contest! Create an original character for the Harry Potter universe. This means an original custom character created by you, not appearing in the books or movies. Rules Must be built with LEGO bricks & mini-fig parts, no clone brands or custom parts. No custom decals. Entry can only contain one LEGO minifigure. No digital entries are allowed - only actual brick-built entries. Contestants may submit a maximum number of 5 pictures per entry. Entries should have a link to a picture folder (non-resized pics, close-ups and stuff like that for the rest of us to enjoy). Max picture size for deeplinked pictures is 800 x 600 pixels. Posts with larger pics will be deleted. The first picture you post should be the one you want used in the voting thread. Figure can be presented in an 8x8 vignette. No overlapping and no more than 100 pieces. No webcam or phone pictures - The pictures must be undisturbed - make a studio, anything but a table with a cat in the background. No Photoshop enhancements outside of sharpening, brightening, color correction or other image adjustment. No added text or effects. Entries must be new. No. If you're not trying to offend, why are you calling people whose work gets frontpaged "big shots?" Or insinutaing that their work is not as good as their relationship with the staff. If you want to challenge us, that's fine, but don't pretend it's not what it is. As far as our frontpaging habits go, WhiteFang has already put it best. We don't have a thread in our staff forum where we say "Whose a popular member right now? Let's frontpage whatever they built." Frontpaging of MOCs is a tertiary priority. Primary is News, secondary is contests and reviews and everything else falls behind that. We started frontpaging MOCs as something to fill the void between news updates or contests. We would like to keep the frontpage active. So, occassionally, you may see a great MOC not make the front page because there is a lot of new LEGO product news out there. We like to keep our main focus, news, on the frontpage longer, so we hold off on our secondary and tertiary priorities until our members have more of a chance to see the LEGO news. Furthermore, our member base is so talented and we see so many amazing MOCs, it'd be impossible to frontpage them all. Thanks for you concern. I hope our answers are sufficient for you.
