Avalonia Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
Rogue Angel replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in Guilds of Historica
You Captain, are another who just pumps out great MOCs at an alarmingly quick rate. It is alarming to me, as I've only had 4 so far myself. I've got to start upping my game. -
Avalonia Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
Rogue Angel replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in Guilds of Historica
Wow. we will have 10 comments in 2 hours, and then nothing for 15-20 hours. So sad. I have edited the basic history of Avalonia in the form of our timeline. I would love to add more info about your characters, so please let me know. I may do region specific histories later on, so please feel free to post them, but I'm trying to focus on main bullets in Avalonian history right now - especially the ancestors of your characters, so please let me know. Also, feedback on the timeline would be appreciated. Long Live Avalonia! -
I have rewritten the Avalonian history to match the Historica history, and the Guild will indeed be only 2 years old. Please let me know if there are any conflicts, and PLEASE let me know what to add for your characters. I would like to only add 3 or 4 timeline points per person, and I may end up editing so everything flows together, but I would like input please. I have created a few names and references highlighted in purple, so please let me know if you don't like this, or would like to change a name, etc. Long Live Avalonia! DaMaximus - thanks for posting the Historica history here, it made it much easier to edit.

The Blood Chamber of Immortality
Rogue Angel replied to Captain BeerBeard's topic in Guilds of Historica
I love how your MOCs follow your own storyline, and this is a great chapter that you have been leading up to. The 3 different dimensions of bricking is very nice, as is the lava (I assume) lake in which he is lying. The necromancers and the components are great too. Quality MOC! -
This is Great! It is very original. It indeed looks like it is carved out of the rock. The roof is completely different than the norm, and looks quite dwarvish. I really like the landscape too, with the small fissure of 1x1 rounds. The "attic" looks great too. Great job! Edit: I love the smoke coming out of the chimney too.

Marmot, You could try horizontal bars or spears etc w 1x1 plates w clips to hold them along the bottom of the 2nd floor. You could also take 1X2 technic bricks (1 hole) with technic 1 1/3 connector pins in the existing wall, and then use 2 1x3 curved slope pieces with a 1X2 plate holding them for each vertical pillar. The technic brick/pin combo does tend to swivel freely though, so you'd have to use 2 per pillar or something similar. Just some thoughts. -

Derfel, would you like the guild to be 2 years old or 102 years old? This sounds like a pretty big change to me. We could edit the submitted history to fit the 2 year old guild as originally planned, or we can edit the original history to fit a 102 year old guild. Please let me know. -
Ilgadren of Gel Cidra has taken it upon herself to create a Grand History of Avalonia. This history will encompass the past and present times. Please feel free to post pieces of history here, and I will add them to the first page. Please be sure to make sure your history fits with the timeline that is already in place. The Grand History of Avalonia Avalonia has always been a sacred place. From its very beginnings it was home to a powerful race of Druids who settled there. Attracted by its beauty and mystique they lived in harmony with the land for many centuries and used their skills to protect the land, which flourished under their rule. As time moved on, their numbers started to decline and the last few remaining took it upon themselves to create one final enchantment. They gave all their power and their lives in one final spell, a treasure, that if found, would bring peace and protection to the land for all eternity. They hid the treasure in their sacred shine, and with their final task now complete, they vanished into dust, although many of their shrines and temples can be seen throughout the land. Days turned to months, months turned to years and years turned to centuries. During that time the land became inhabited by all sorts of mysterious life and became a very dangerous place. One group who settled there were a tribe of Elves who made their home in the forest. The Elves were drawn to the land's sacred power and vowed to watch over the land until the day came when a suitable ruler could be found. One who's people could bring peace and prosperity back to the land. And so they waited... Avalonian Timeline More than 6000 years ago: The powerful race of the Druids inhabits the regions of modern day Avalonia. They are the first signs of life on the continent. The only remnants of their existence are their temples and shrines which are often covered in cryptic runes hinting at ancient rituals and rites. 4000 years ago: The last of the Druids have disappeared. The Spell Of Peace And Protection is cast and buried in a mysterious shrine, which has never been found. 3400 years ago: A fleet of Elven corsairs arrive off the coast of Avalonia They are pursuing Drow trireme attempting to escape to this new land. A great storm lays waste to Elven fleet, and the Elves are forced to winter in the Enchanted Forest. Dallaenus, leader of the corsairs, decides to found an elvish outpost, and calls it “Sevlani Dru” – Drow’s bane. 3300 years ago: The Elves discover that a small tribe of Drow living within the Enchanted Forest and wipe them out. The Elves believe the Drow to now be all but extinct. Enamored with the Verdant forest of Avalonia, the Elves send word back to their homeland and a great exodus to Avalonia begins. 3200 years ago: The golden age of the Elves has begun. The Elves of Avalonia prosper in the abundance of the Enchanted Forest. Eslina the Wise travels to the Mystic Isles with her clan and founds Gel Cidra. The ancenstors of Fantu and Andonii arrive in Avalonia. Eldorna ancestor of Andonii, founds the city of Celadorne, which will grow to become the pinnacle of Elvish civilization in Avalonia. 2800 years ago: Unbeknownst to the Elves, Great tribes of Drow wander the middling of Historica. The Great Drow city of Lith Ruy-Athar is founded near the present day border of Avalonia and Nocturnus. 2700 years ago: Elven and Drow clash on the plains of Avalonia. The Avalonian Elves mobilize for war. The Elvish-Drow wars have begun. 2300 years ago: Fanota, ancestor of Fantu, leads the great Elvish hosts against the Drow city of Lith Ruy-Athar. The city falls, but at great cost to the Elves. The Drow are unaware of the severity of the Elven casualties and retreat back into present day Nocturnus. 2200 years ago: The Great Elven council meets for the last time. Three of the Lords decide to flee back to their homeland, while the remaining three decide to remain in Avalonia. Their numbers are greatly dwindled, and they attempt to fortify for what they expect to be an imminent Drow assault. 2000 years ago: Having bent Nocturnus to their will, the Drown turn again to conquest. Bolstered by warriors from the great Cavern cities, and their Dragon allies, the Drow quickly begin to draw Historica into their dark grasp. 1900 years ago: The great Elven citadel Celadorne falls, and the Drow conquer the last Elvish city in Historica. The remnants of the Elven tribes flee to the Enchanted Forest and the Mystic Isles. The Elves are driven deep into the forests, and some even cross Avalonia to Kaliphin and Mitgardia. 1450 years ago: Avalonia is a land of primitive tribes and isolated villages of farmers. Kaliphin is able to conquer the mainland with little resistance. The Enchanted Forest and Mystic Isles are of little concern, for the mainland is prize - the agricultural bread basket of Historica 1300 years ago: Kaliphin’s dominion over Avalonia wanes, and with it the interim peace that accompanied it. Without Kaliphin’s protection, the mainland farmers become an easy target for marauders, brigands and warlords. So begins the darkest period in Avalonia’s history. 41 years ago: Orthus become the leader of the group and they begin to protect and support adventures journeying into the Enchanted Forest. Hamlet of Circardia is founded. 36 years ago: Orthus of Circardia creates the Phoenix Guard and defeats the roving outlaws that have plagued his lands 15 years ago: Orthus passes his title, rule of Circardia and the Phoenix Guard to Arlindus. Lord Arlindus is known as fair and just leader, Orthus maintains role as ambassador with local Elvish Clans. 2 years ago: Avalonia is at its darkest hour, when a group of men mounted on huge war horses, thunders into Avalonia. They are led by Artorious Rex, a great warrior despite his mere 25 years. As they ride into battle, the sound of their charging horses echo's that of the beating wings of a mighty dragon. Hence they call themselves 'The Flight Of Dragons'. Within a year, Artorious will have secured peace and stability in this once chaotic land. The Guild of Avalonia has been founded. 1 year ago: Artorious Rex has secured peace with Kaliphin, Mitgardia and even Nocturnus. Trade flourishes and Avalonia prospers. Regional Histories Circardia Key dates 42 years ago- Orthus flees his homeland with several companions and settles along the Isca River in the eastern part of the Enchanted Forrest. 41 years ago - Orthus become the leader of the group and they begin to protect and support adventures journeying into the Enchanted Forest. Ilgadren, Matriarch of Gel Cidra, would like to offer herself up to be the Grand Historian of Avalonia. She is a sorceress who has dwelt in the Mystic Isles for her entire life. Through her knowledge of Elven and Druidic Lore, she has divined the insight to prolong her life to nearly 400 years. She has witnessed the events of the realm, and would be willing to document it's history as a service to Avalonia. (Gel Cidra is located here, but there will be more to come on that later.) -

??? Too Woodsey? Too Talkative? Too Historical? Too goody two shoes? -
Again, this scene looks like it's just cut out the of the Enchanted Forest. Very nice ground cover and foliage. The trellis, or whatever you would call it with the tile floor is cool too. Very nice little MOC. I gotta start working on those myself.
-
I love brick built creatures that are well done. The use of the capes is very creative, as is the underbelly. Definitely Nocturnus-ish with the nice stone crags and the lava. Very nice MOC.
-
WOW! This is awesome! I love the color scheme, the roofing, the tiling in the dining hall.. This is a beautiful MOC. I really like the dressers and the cutaway of the wall. The interior is packed with stuff too. I love it! BTW, where are those torsos from on the Phoenix Guard?
-
The Elves of the Rustling Leaves clan have recently commissioned an army of war golems from the Dwarves of the Algaduhr Caverns. What better place to test their prototype golem then in a gladiatorial arena!

A. I agree with Marmot - lots of incest, but that was common practice back then. B. agree with Andonii that this kind of clashes with our timeline. I would like to see this moved back about 300-400 years and say these were Artorious ancestors. C. I thought we weren't using cannon and gunpowder, only archaic guns and alternative gunpowder uses. D. I would rather have Kevean be a drow or a renegade Lord or a orc/ogre/bandit/pirate king, that sort of thing, and maybe this was when the Dragonflight got wiped out? E. I'm not sure on the Assassin's guild timeline - my guess is that Beerbeard would know. F. I like the story - lots of twists and turns and intrigue. I would like to see some expansion on these events, such as why the war, a little more about the characters, etc. -
I like the way your MOCs are never symmetrical, and have more of a "realistic" look to them, in this case the dock looks nice and rickety. Very nice scene, I like the plant use and the little home. Great job!
-
You keep your grubby Nocturnal mitts off our BeerBeard! This wood certainly does have an unwelcome aura to it. This is a great MOC! I love how you build things independent of the contests and the mini-challenges. I would like to do this but I always get stuck spending all my time on the contest builds. These dwarven miners must be making you rich BeerBeard!
-
I like the sand red with the grey - it's a very nice combination. I also like the tent, may consider a version of that myself....
-
I like the infusion of Kaliphlin and Mitgardia. The rounded tower is great, and I really like the blue building and it's roof. It really looks like The Embassy was built according to Mitgardian architecture, but the Kaliphlin natives have added their own accents to it. The snake charmer is my favorite BTW. Great MOC!
-
There is so much going on here, I love it! I really like these scenes with multiple buildings, and all the people going about their activities. The boardwalk is great, and I might borrow it in my next Moruth build. I also like the sand green water and the plants. Quality MOC!

Can't wait! -
- At Avalonia: I think we need a new map of your Guild, the previous one I had is a broken link nowadays... I'm not sure how up to date this map is, but here is the copy I have saved. (I hope Brickshelf returns soon...)

Thanks for all the comments! Stu: The underwater scene was the whole selling point for me on building in Nocturnus. I figured that I could get some pretty cool architecture for the compound wall in Kaliphlin, and I could utilize snow in a Mitgardian embassy, but I really wanted to do the water scene. Gabe: I was really unsure of what to do with my swamp flora until I happened upon those lime green exo-force pieces in my collection, and viola! Also, those mushrooms pieces were pretty much created for Nocturnus. I pick-a-bricked the lime green 1x1s a year ago without any clue as to what I would use them for, and it turns out I have a use for them..You better get going on your embassy! You've only got 15 days left. Not much time for Bricklink orders, if you need them, which I always seem to I really want to see your Moruth build! DaMaximus: The reptilian was modeled after I Scream Clone's reptilians on the Nocturnus pages - the head is Bossk from the Slave I (version 3). I had to shoot the tree about 40 times to get a picture that didn't look too angular, and kept putting foliage over "seams" in the branches. Derfel: I feel like the exterior and the interior are too different animals all together, as the interior is a completely different building style. I had to remodel the exterior to fit a substantial interior inside, but I like the exterior better because of it. With MOCs, I think there are situations where an interior "clutters" the MOC. It is nice to see maybe 2 or 3 pictures of a beautiful exterior, and that is it. I felt like by the time I was to my last picture, everyone would forget what my tree looked like, so I added another full picture at the end. Kabel: I hope to pursue this storyline, if Nocturnus is OK with it. There have to got to be some inhabitants chafing under the tyrannical rule of this land. We'll see what's coming in the future for Historica (could be a good mustering point to invade Nocturnus, just saying.... ) Abu Dun: I really would have preferred to avoid the symmetry with the branches and foliage, I couldn't think of a better way to accomplish that. My foliage was limited by the 48x48 guideline, which had me worried with 40x40 branches, but it turned out better than I thought. If I built separate buildings instead of one encompassing the trunk, I might be able to get that arboreal asymmetry. Definitely might be a future build. deGothia: I really wanted to build a tree-fortress, and I figured that if I didn't build it for one of the challenges, it wouldn't get built, or I wouldn't put the effort in that I should. I've been embracing the whole Elven thing, but I'll have to switch it up soon. I am really looking forward to my Albion build, but it got pushed to the side due to this challenge. Maybe I'll start working towards that and my title builds now.

SO many great things here! I love the mini builds of the Embassy and the roof. The house looks like it will be pretty sweet and pretty nocturnal. How much will the size be increasing from the red roof to the black? It looks like the red roof is about 10x10? What will the dimension be of the full size version? The mosaic looks great! I've only built one myself, but I just tried to minimize the gaps and make it looks symmetrical, and you've done a great job of that here. -
