I'm planning a Hoth MOC..... someday. I've got a design for Atgar Laser Cannons and Golan Batteries which I've been picking up parts for via Bricklink. I only have one AT-AT so far though, and I was planning on designing a larger, minfig scale version (even though the 3 releases so far have been minifig scale, they are still too small IMO. Those are going to take a while yet. I might throw together an Echo Base perimiter MOC though, we'll see. -
Thanks for the comments guys! Gabe - I was trying to somehow visualize the winds flying about. I couldn't get the chains posed circularly in mid-air, so the tress were the only way I could show it. I realize that the wind gusts do look a bit too opaque and angular, but it was the best I could come up with.

This is just beautiful! It looks exactly like Lando would decorate it. You've done an amazing job with this - I can't believe there aren't more comments! This is yet another creation to add to my folder of great SW builds (image collection). This is a spot-on build, and I love it!

Astromech Workplace Contest: Bespin Streets
Rogue Angel replied to Ninja Nin's topic in Watto's Junkyard
This is an awesome build! It is a great SW representation and it looks great. I love the fact that you have the street and buildings on both size. You've created a large scene, and you've completely filled it, and filled it well. Great job! -
Most wanted CMF for army builder
Rogue Angel replied to AAA Brick Master's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks! I think that army building does not only apply to military figures. It all depends on what you want to build. If you want to build a squad of cheerleaders, a graduating class, a squadron of air force pilots, these can all be considered army building. The big factor is how common it is to army build a particular figure. Obviously the military figures are generally going to be the most common, but I would say anything with a uniform would fall into that category. I would say that cheerleaders and graduates are much less in demand than Elves and Spartans, but they could still fall in to that category. I also think that the aftermarket is a blessing and a curse. While it is expensive to pick up a lot of those prime figures, I have definitely picked up figures through bricklink for an extra couple of dollars each instead of spending the time and money to drive to a whole bunch of stores to see if they have them and then feel for the right figures. It has been less of an issue with the later series, which have been more heavily produced and have had multiple figures I've wanted multiples of, that were easy to find (Galaxy Patrol, Aztec, Evil Knight, Highlander, Minotaur) -
Thanks guys! Angeli: the Challenge 4 entry should give you a hint on the tree frame. I had originally tried this frame with the small 3 leaf clusters, but it didn't look that great. It worked better with the sword leaves, and really gave a good wind-blown look for the challenge entry. Soccerkid: The tavern was originally going to be a separate island, but I ran out of pieces, so I had to put it on top of the building - which worked out pretty well. Rob: I prefer the predestruction version as well. I was just creating this as a free build, but I couldn't pass up the chance to use the microscale for the land far below, so I destroyed it for the challenge. The Duke would be more than welcome if it hadn't been destroyed by those darn elementals! Ecclesiastes: The whole I reason I came up with these was because I bricklinked a couple of bat-monsters, and I just LOVE the figures. I wanted to use them in a build, and was trying to come up with some aerial hang out for them. It was originally going to be on a cliff face, but I think the floating island worked out better. Mikel: I started just with chains for the roof, but that seemed a little boring Then I realized I could intertwine the tiles, and actually give some protection to the tavern-goers. I had to put the support in the middle, otherwise the whole thing sagged, but it worked well with the rest of the frame, so I'm happy with it!

I buy multiples as well ( to a slightly lesser degree than Mutley though.) It all depends on what you are looking for. If you're collecting one of every minifig, for example, it would not behoove you to pick up duplicates. I think there are a number of good reasons to pick uo duplicates ( depending on your cash flow): 1.) army building - at $10-$12 for 4 figs and sometimes even a speeder bike, this can be a real bargain. 2.) Parts - there are some sets that are a good value for great pieces (Medieval Marketplace & Diagon Alley) or if you're looking for specific parts (I picked up 10 blacksmiths shops since it would have cost me $4 for the weapons alone plus 2 figs and a chicken and bucket!!!) 3.) Clearance - There are sets I have purchased duplicates of just because they were dirt cheap. 4.) Dioramas - this is my biggest reason for picking up duplicates. I want to build a Rebel base someday, so I need 6 X-Wings, 6 B-wings (6 is the arbitrary number I've decided on since 12 is just ridiculous) and I need the troopers and personnel to man the base, along with Imperial walkers and troops to invade. My main thought when purchasing now is "How will this help my ability to build scenes" so, while the new TOR sets are really cool, I'm never going to use them in my builds, so I'd rather pick up Jabba's Palace or another skiff or 6 more Endor battlepacks. It all depends on what YOU want to do with them.

What a great mini-build! It reminds me that I need to get on a few more of those. I do like the vulture - I had seen it before, and it is the best brick-built bird you can make right now IMO (or at least that I've seen). I always like the story that goes with it, and that the skeleton has been stripped clean. You do a good job of vagueing up your edges, so that your builds never look that small, even if they are.

I really like your presentation Sealslip! I agree that you are making great use of the magnets. I present my Imperial Cold Weather Force consisting of three companies of snowtroopers, 1 company of snowtrooper rifleman, 3 snowtrooper scout squads, four AT-ST crews and one AT-AT crew. I will be eventually posting all of the vehicles as well, but that's going to take me a lot longer. -
I was just trying to give you guys a hard time. I know you are all busy, and I know DC is gone for a month.

I was wondering where all of the Guild Leaders had gone! You give us the most frustrating challenge and none of you guys submitted anything, too difficult for you? (even though I know you guys don't normally submit challenge entries) I have to admit, I was tearing my hair out with this challenge. It is was so frustrating because all of my action parts and destruction scenes could not be built solidly, so every time I'd get one section set up, another would fall down. It's definitely much harder to portray actions in a build, although I think there are some real gems in these entries.

Avalonia Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
Rogue Angel replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in Guilds of Historica
Agreed! It's like a great weight has been lifted, and I always think to myself "I can probably submit 3 or 4 free builds before the next challenge" When in reality, it will probably be 1, if I'm lucky. -
I am totally blown away by this build. You have done an amazing job with the trees and the spiral staircases and the plants, and the ships' hulls are a stroke of genius. This looks so beautifully Elven - This is exactly the type of thing I had wanted to create, but I couldn't think of how to do it, and my build would have been maybe 1/4 the scale. I love this build, and I would love to see it in person if you guys ever decide to come to Brickworld Chicago.... 2013 maybe,

Nice microbuild! I like the horizontal cheese slopes especially but the entire build is well done. I was very sad to see that you would not be entering this challenge as I always look forward to seeing your builds.

Raex Kilfana was a great adventurer who traveled to many lands and discovered wonders and a wealth of treasure. Deep in the deserts of Kaliphlin, Raex found a magic carpet that could perform many wonders, not the least of which was flight. Raex had always marveled at the magical islands that float above the Mystic Isles. With his carpet, he was able to travel up to them, and he claimed one of the islands as his own. He build a small stone outpost to keep his valuable treasures safe from thieves and rogues. Eventually he retired from adventuring, and took up residence on his island in the sky. He built it up over the years, and installed a windmill to harness the great winds that soar through the Avalonian skies, as well as a a common area on the roof so that he could run a small tavern to while away his twilight years. He was able to capture rainwater, and sustain a couple gardens of sturdier plants. The island was modest in size, and inevitably Raex ran out of room. He harnessed another small isle and secured it with great chains and used it as a landing for patrons of his small tavern. Raex lived many years ago, and he named his island Kilfana's Roost. It was passed down through the generations, to his current descendant, Laress Kilfana. With the help of her husband Dorain, the tavern has flourished, with many airborne patrons. Kilfana's Roost floats high in the skies of Avalonia, and is accessible only by those with means to harness the winds. The two islands are tethered together by great chains to weather the great flurries that pummel the island. A wooden bridge provides access for those who arrive on flying mounts (such as the dragon pictured here) When dusk falls, the island is lit by two great braziers which serve as beacons for travelers that seek out the tavern at night. Supplies and cargo are secured with a large cargo net. Dorain has just picked a carrot from one of the island's two gardens to help flavor his stew for the evening meal. Rainwater is captured and stored in a large barrel in case of dry spells. The windmill provides power for grinding meal, sharpening tools, and various other small chores. The tavern is the main attraction of Kilfana's Roost, and the slatted boards provide a little protection from the sun, but the winds and the altitude ensure that the Roost is usually cool enough. Laress brings food and ale to the recent arrival - Lord Mirsk the Sand Dervish - who is conversing with his new friend ZZrrt. Zzrrt is providing some valuable information on the recent behavior of the Nocturnus Minotaurs. A trio of bat folk are sharing the tavern, and are squeaking hysterically at their comrade. Bat folk are notoriously bad drunks, as their slight frames cannot absorb much alcohol. The rowdiest of the Bat folk (Musty Wings, as Zzrrt has taken to calling him due to his stench) looks like he's going to try to fly, which should be amusing for everyone else. And last, but certainly not least, we see the prize possession of any tavern - the ale keg! located securely beneath the tavern stairs, the keg is the boon and bane to many a patron, given the altitude.

So, by my (unofficial) count, these are the entry totals: Avalonia: 10 entries Kaliphlin: 7 entries Mitgardia: 5 entries Nocturnus: 2 entries It looks like the Drow are scaring away all their neighbors! There were some pretty awesome entries this round IMO and it's nice to see some newcomers in the mix. As Kabel said, there are some pretty talented builders developing here!

Gorgeous Angeli! The city is beautiful, I love the water fall and the water elemental is great! The clouds give it an ethereal feel which definitely adds to the fantasy feel. The tree though, is my favorite part of this build. Wonderful entry1

This is a fabulous entry, just like your last one! The phoenix is beautiful, and the city is fantastic as well. I love the scale of both of them, and they both look gorgeous! I also really like the way you built that bridge. Great techniques here - Amazing entry!
-
Great job on this! I love how you built the flames to flow together in separate streams (I totally know what you mean about falling apart, I got so angry when I was assembling mine to photograph ). I also love a lot of the little details - the corpse is great, the running villager and the flame spurting onto the cart. The panicing guy throwing water out the window is great. Wonderful build!
-
Your elemental is enormous! I love the way the bottom half is spinning and blurred in your picture. The flying animals are a nice touch too. Great job!
-
Good job with this! I really like the microbuild, and I like the fangs on your elemental. Nice entry!

Fantastic job with the microbuild here! I love the tornado - it looks so realistic and enormous. I also like the trees and the water crashing against the shore. Beautiful MOC!
