  1. Hi everyone, I recently got back into Technic and I wanted to look into making a tram system similar to a toy I had as a child: The system ran on a cable very similar to what you load into a gardening edging tool (weed-wacker), and had tracks that allowed it to change angles. My thought is to use the same type of cable, and maybe use one of these: with some sort of connection to a motor and battery box hanging below. Couple concerns: How could I make this go around corners if I try to do this with 100% lego? Am I going to have issues with the wheel slipping on the line? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  2. Everytime I see a build with the buggy motors I get sad that they are ~$50/ea in the USA :( I would love to build a 2 speed rock buggy with 4 of them.
  3. This is INSANE! I can't even imagine trying to build anything of this magnitude.... Do you have a drawing or rendering of the final idea of what you are building?
  4. This makes me want to pick up the lego weapons books again :S
  5. I think my wife is getting me the mobile crane for my birthday gift, if so this will be my very next project!
  6. I've actually never done anything with the mindstorms before, It's one of those things I always wanted to try but couldn't stomach spending $300 for a 600 piece set before. But after spending the last couple years with exclusively Technic it seems like the next logical move. Thank you for the welcome!
  7. I'll try to get a cleaned up picture tonight :p http://i.imgur.com/p8SmOxV.jpg
  8. I can't wait to be able to afford these high end technic sets again... My wishlist right now is the EV3 followed by the mobile crane... soon I suppose!
  9. Indeed, I think I'm going to try a trailing arm independent suspension like that.
  10. No, the ball joints pull right apart :)
  11. Not a "drive through" obstacle like your map, but in the actual 4x4 world they have RTI ramps (Ramp Travel Index) to measure total travel distance of the front and rear suspension combined.
  12. http://www.eurobrick...+motor +release Dang it... just beat me
  13. I got mine from RC4WD, but I don't see them on there anymore... they are really nice!
  14. I think a trophy truck is my next project as well. I think 2wd is fine with a selectable diff locker in the rear.
  15. Very awesome! One of my favorite original themes :) Very well done.
  16. That's a really good use of the large turntable, I had never thought of using the steering controls on the back of the turntable but that would fix a lot of problems I was having with my designs. I'd love to see more pics of your diff lock setup!
  17. Something I've done for 4x4 builds with lego is to use cantilever suspensions similar to what is used in high end real 4x4 vehicles: You can increase the travel length of the shock which also puts more pressure, giving the equivalent of a lighter spring. Also did something similar with a dual spring setup, it worked amazingly well:
  18. Very clever way to use the servo motor for steering, I have never thought to use it directly like that :S
  19. Your models are always an inspiration, thank you for all you add to the community :)
  20. Very smart mounting the link for the 3link lower then the rest of the body. That removes quite a lot of swing from the axle.
  21. I would love to see a Blacktron and M:tron reboot, those were my favorite when I first got into lego
  22. Very interesting design for a 4 link suspension!
