  1. This certainly is great news! The Dino 2010 theme, despite its shortcomings, gave us a large variety of very useful parts and colors both for vehicles and for minifigures. Seeing as how modern Lego designs are way smoother and tend to be more classically oriented (as opposed to having "junior-sized" parts) These sets could be a treasure trove of useful bits. As far as the dinosaurs themselves, we will have to wait and see, but for the last 2 years I have not been disappointed in a single action theme when it comes to new molds, so I say let them at us! I would be curious to see what time period this happens in; it is quite plausible that this is a sequel to "Pharaoh's Quest", with a new name to reflect the new location. That would be great (however unlikely)
  2. Great work ISC, As I noted on Flickr it really looks very original with the colors; it's like a more-serious Futurama art style. Would love to see a crew even if there is no dedicated interior.
  3. I second that wish with a slight modification; I wish to see it in dark red. Space suits in dark colors seem way truer to sci-fi movies games etc. and a dark red on would go quite a long way in sci-fi moc'ing.
  4. If these are the real thing and part of the same series this may surpass series 4 in number of great desirable mini's! A lot to look at here in terms of accessories and parts as well as unique cultural figures! I have just 3 major impressions: 1) The genie is absolutely gorgeous but looks oddly familiar, I hope Disney don't file a lawsuit... 2) The statue of Liberty's skirt is flipped so there is probably printing on the other side. (assembled backwards in other words) 3) Minotaur: (Finally! ) Hopefully this is not the last instance of mythological monsters being built into mini-figures! Can't wait for the other 6! If even 3 are as good as these I will declare this the best series yet!
  5. Yes indeed! Let's face it, the only kind of western theme that can be officially released is not a historic one but one based on the Hollywood version of the wild west. (Which was filmed mostly in California and parts of Arizona/New Mexico and isn't really that accurate to true pioneer life) Then again, I think that a good Wild West Theme is to real pioneers as a good castle theme is to the middle ages; rooted in history, embellished by fantasy and edited for the little ones.
  6. Thanks a lot for the compliments everyone, I am truly happy that you like it! To answer the question Gregorovich posed: No there isn't a full interior, these are mostly facades. There are items behind the windows to give the appearance of an interior thought. It's all smoke and mirrors.
  7. Thank you all for the overwhelmingly nice comments and thank you ISC for front-paging this! To answer a few questions about techniques used: The hairpieces: My way of doing straw; this way it has more texture than if it were brick-built. (And to distinguish it from the stucco) The glass window: I piled a whole bunch of 1X1 plates on top of one another aligned horizontally and simply tilted that about 45 degrees. (That's the big idea, it's a bit more elaborate with the anchoring, and with other things getting in the way but if you can get that concept everything else is just on a case to case basis) The road: It's actually a 6X6 plate that has been turned so that it fits in a space 8 studs wide. The plate is then overlapped with another 6X6 plate diagonally, on and on for the full length of the road, and then the sidewalks are put a stud in to cover up the jagged edges and give the appearance of a smooth 6 stud-wide road. The roofs: Believe it or not these were the most elaborate technique used here; The roof is done in the usual way I've been building cheese-slope roofs, but the house actually has a side made almost entirely of tan cheese slopes that help to anchor the roof in place. It can actually come of without a problem as the only thing keeping it in place is gravity. I may post a a few pictures as visuals to highlight these but that really is all there is to it. Once again thank you, i'm happy that people like these, and will keep building more adventures for the characters.
  8. Hello all, I'm happy to present my latest castle/fantasy MOC: The Market District: I figured you can't be a true castle MOC'er if you haven't built a town, and so here is my take on a classic tradition : Story While traveling the “Via Tasher” that spans the Kingdom of Leon, travelers pass through many bustling towns and villages. One of the most beautiful and wealthy is His Majesty’s town of Lev; a market town built on a major crossroad, drawing in traffic and trade from all across the Kingdom. Even the most noble and fierce heroes have to shop for provisions. Asparuh the warrior and his party of companions have stopped in Lev to resupply and rest as they pursue the minions of Count Vlad the Vampire. Inns, food, entertainment and supplies are a plenty in Lev if the price is right.[/i] Overview: Asparuh the warrior and Vanek the dwarf. Whoever said that a good adventure is limited to fighting dragons, killing orcs and saving damsels? The tax collector Regent always blushed when he saw the nice ladies from the "Gentle Maiden" tavern... Jim the Butcher and Son. Ah the dynamics of the family business. Guarding the Tax Collection Bureau Some of Omurtag's best smiths come to the surface to make a little coin; humans are suckers when they hear "Dwarven-made" The Minotaur's Head Tavern; a less-than-reputable place for less-than-reputable business. Of course there are a lot more photos on MOCPages! I hope you like it, please feel free to comment and let me know if you like the idea of the traveling adventurers.
  9. Nice find, although it will be taken down because of the Confidential seal. I'd say if this is a real thing it's quite bland. The ship does not have very much grandeur at all, the black color seems to be the one thing it has going for it. Minifigures look neat, I'm not sure who the pirate with the blue hat is, but he looks quite good. I suppose it was expected that it could be smaller than the QAR, but this is nowhere near the size and scale of the movie version. (Yes even in minifigure terms. ) useful parts all around thought, so I suppose it's not too bad for the price.
  10. I find it incredible that anyone can take the pure chaos that is a quarter of a million bricks and organize them along such clean lines as to create this. To say that it is original would be an understatement, and to say it is well built, and masterfully motorized would be close to a heresy. My impression is that this is the culmination of the work of two of the best builders in the world. Your cumulative imagination, artistic sense, and technical skills are a marvel to behold and I hope you will continue to wow us for years and years to come!
  11. That incredibly close to what I imagined! Great work on that one! As far as the architecture of the temple I say go for it and create the baddest reddest Gothic spire you can muster. Looking forward to seeing it!
  12. Ricecracker you have done an amazing job so far! The truck is a work of beauty, not to mention your amazing graffiti and the loading bay doors. (Also loving the barrel!) Time to pull it together and finish this beauty so that we can all drool over it!
  13. Angeli, I am reading up on Drow culture and it's very interesting. If I were to pick a part of the castle I'd say that a "Temple of Llolth" would certainly fit my taste. You can either use that as a name, or you can call it (And I derive this from the web so please check for accuracy) "Rilynneld" of "House of the Arcane". I hope it makes sense. As far as a sig-fig goes, i have seen a lot of really neat armored characters, but i would love to see you make something that looks more organic. I'm thinking something corrupted/mutated, made out entirely of fleshy parts and looking rather distorted. That's my challenge to you, I know you're a capable builder and can do it!
  14. Dan, this is wonderful! I love the layout and the asteroid surface! Very believable, almost feels like a video game map, that would be fun to explore!
  15. This looks very plausible as a real set in the future! I love the giant rifle!
  16. Angeli I am always impressed by the sheer scale of your MOC's not to mention the great variety of unique minifigures and your photography techniques! The cheese slope floor looks wonderfully! Something occurred to me while I was looking at your architecture; have you ever thought about putting some dark red in the buildings? It's probably not practical on a large scale as you have a plethora of black/red, but I think it might look very unique if you were to do a smaller scale MOC with some dark red thrown into the mix to contrast the red. Nonetheless, if you were building a new city, I would like to see some sort of throne room. (if this is applicable, I'm not very up-to-date on the Drow mythology) can't wait to see what you come up with!
  17. Hey I'm glad you like the story aspect of the build and the characters. The idea is that Asparuh is the permanent party leader and his companions are interchangeable between adventures. In this way I can play around with new core minifigures instead of putting the exact same 3 in every single one of the MOC's. No doubt some of the older characters will see the light of day in the future.
  18. Beautiful Church Gilles Gaer! While the outside is really well done and full of neat detail and ideas, it is the interior that really makes it a great MOC for me. That has to be one of the best altars and internal decorations I have seen in a while! Your windows are wonderfully made, the Eilonwy77 inspiration is definitely present, but I feel like you've made it your own design and a few of them are small works of art!
  19. Here's a pic showing the figures clearly. (Don't know how I missed to closeup on these guys before) Thank you all for the nice comments
  20. Thank you all for the great comments! I'm happy to hear that you like it. To answer some questions about the MOC: Those are actually the SW EV-9D9 Droid heads from SW Jabba's palace. I found they look like face masks and quite menacing under a hood! gabe, thank you I'm glad you like the story. There is an over-arching type of narrative that has the warrior Asparuh and his party of heroes exploring different parts of a fantasy Kingdom, but that is very loosely lodged in for flavor. Each MOC can be viewed in it's merit, although there is a more-elaborate long-term story that i am going to complete before I finish the fantasy mocs series. Truth be told I don't plan anything past the overall dimensions of the building. Since this one was based on an actual architectural piece, I simplified a lot of the features and drew an overall rough sketch of what I wanted it to look like. Since everything is minifigure-scale it was pretty straight forward to see what dimensions looked realistic for the domes and windows, and from there I matched the rest of the building in scale. The techniques I use are usually thought of on the spot. I must have rebuilt the big windows on the front 4 times before I was satisfied with how they looked. My advice is to just try unconventional uses for parts and see what looks good and what doesn't.
  21. Hello everyone, I'm pleased to say that after nearly a month of slow building I'm finally finished with my latest creation. Story: The Mausoleum of Vasily the Great is the Kingdom's most sacred burial ground. Only the most honored warriors and noblemen are buried here, and their monuments are maintained and curated over by the Kingdom's major religious sect; "The Order Of the Crown of Thorns". Key to the order's central dogma is the idea of universal suffering and the honor of overcoming the self. The Order has long sought relics of the old Tasher Empire to be brought back to it's temples and Mausoleums. Today, a party of heroes entered the Mausoleum with a sacred Tasher Relic; "The Conduit". This mystical object was attained by Asparuh the warrior and his loyal group of followers. What started out as a simple delivery has gone terribly wrong; upon delivering the relic to the temple the group is ambushed by the Lord of the Darkness himself; Count Vlad, and his army of Kavala slaver minions. As the party prepares to fight the incoming horde to the bitter end, a shadowy figure scales the Mausoleum and eyes up Count Vlad from the shadows. This mysterious stranger may be the only hope for our doomed heroes... Tombs of the Honored In retrospect Brother Yarek should not have gone into the religious life. For one thing he enjoyed it too much; his nutty hobbies and constant excitement annoyed the rest of the brothers to no end. Relaxing with the forbidden arts Asparuh the Warrior, Edrin the wizard, and Liarah the Elf. Edrin hates leaving his tower and visiting populated places. For reasons that were lost to him, every time he showed up in a town small children would tug at his cape and ask him for presents. Count Vlad is back for more! This is done in the "Neo-Byzantine style". The inspiration was the Alexander Nevski Cathedral in Sofia, BG. As always a lot more photos on MOCPages! This is the latest development in my series of fantasy/castle MOC's. Let me know if you like them so far. Please feel free to comment!
  22. Excellent Vault! I am a big fan of the game and I sure hope you keep building MOCs in this line! Post Apocalyptic MOCs are always fascinating to look at and nothing is better for inspiration than the Capital wastelands! Those are the best Vault Tech security guards I have ever seen and the fact they are official figs makes me love it even more. Perhaps adding a few printed flags and a bit of 50's propaganda will make the scene feel right at home with the game's universe! Can't wait to see more!
  23. This may be a bit of an odd question but have there been any news about battle packs, or exclusive sets yet? I know there is an Alien Conquest battle pack and I would love to see one for the new kingdoms hopefully something more civilian/farmer oriented.
  24. Wow that is amazing! I don't know how you do it, to me it seems a Herculean effort but upon completion this may be the poster child of castle MOC's! I like being able to imagine where you are going to build what and indeed I have a pretty good idea about where you will lay out the buildings already; just by virtue of your beautiful base. I didn't think you would have enough bricks to build a full castle and town but after seeing how dedicated you are to building this far, i can only imagine how much more involved and detailed this will get. You have thoroughly impressed me sir!
  25. Excellent! I haven't seen actual sand used before but I daresay it looks excellent! I like the design of the machine; very steampunk-inspired, and the pilot caps on the ostriches are so funny but wonderful! The layout of the palm trees is perfect; decor positioning is a critical skill often overlooked in MOCs but you've nailed the exact placement for the optimum visual effect! My hat's off to you for that!
