New Lego 10223 Kingdoms Joust Exclusive
Sirens-of-Titan replied to I Scream Clone's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
My thoughts on this set: 1) A few very cool new figures and a lot of useful parts in the general color palette of castle MOC'ers make this a great and cost-efficient parts pack. 2) In terms of the design I see a lot of techniques that have been pioneered by AFOL's in the decor of the main building, which in a way is how they pay homage to the community. Also the tiles underneath the walkway indicate that the whole floor can be taken off to allow play inside, I assume adding to the credibility of "combine 2 sets". 3) the black falcons knight is quite original and if i am not mistaking has a black helm? That would be a first I'm not a fan of the torso underneath the armor though; it has the bronze that made the dragon knights unique, but clashes with the silver on his shield and the general look of the horse armor. The good news here is a that there are 3 shields per set so even if there is only 1 knight, one could still outfit a small unit of dragon knights as "falcon" knights. 4) Compared to MMV, this set does not deliver all that much innovation: sure the figures of the maiden, noble and knight have great prints, I see no new molds or animals. MMV introduced us to the first and only brown cows and is still the only source of these. Outside of the new figures, this whole set can be built from preexisting parts, which while it is perfectly acceptable, diminishes my desire to buy the whole set vs. bricklink the figures. Overall, I am happy with how it turned out, any development in the area of history themes is exciting and if indeed Kingdoms has a future or is followed up by a different castle theme, this set would give it a worthy conclusion. Keeping my fingers crossed for more castle news in Summer wave 2012!! -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 6 Discussion
Sirens-of-Titan replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm having a hard time seeing the grainy details of the picture, if anyone has a decent quality picture and can PM me, it would be very much appreciated. From what I can tell this will be the best-selling series yet; not one of these is a throw-away, and I think that Lego really did a good thing in diminishing the amount of sports figures in the series. The history forum will be buzzing for many months to come with Roman and Greek themed creations thanks to this series! -
Very nice balance of classic colors! The whole build has a very serene and beautiful nature; the waterfall is wonderful and of course the stone work and mine entrance! Well done indeed!
-
Very good idea Fives! I for one would absolutely love a new ork design that is a bit scarier and less cartoonish than the Fantasy "Trolls". I'm not one to army-build but I would certainly acquire a mother-load of such minifigures if they were released in either a new fantasy theme or as a part of the Collectible Minifigures' future series. As far as Heroica being made into a theme; it certainly seems doable and it may be a worthwhile substitute for a LOTR theme made cheaper due to the lack of need for a license. My only concern with that idea is that it would then create 2 different categories of Heroica sets; one of buildable playsets, the other games. (Yes i know that ninjago and Pharoah's quests have already done this but Heroica has so many expansions I consider it somewhat a more serious game )

WW Category 2: The Town of Brick Rush
Sirens-of-Titan replied to Cara's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Great scene Cara! I love the angle work in the road and surrounding houses! It really sets the whole scene up nicely with each house not obscured by its neighboring buildings! The Gungan shield used as a window in the house is really ingenious! The pot with the flowering plants (The Mohawk and dino man tail) is an absolute gem of an idea, I hope you get credited with it when it becomes massively used in the future! Good luck in the contest! -
Don't mean to be dominating this thread but i just noticed something I think is quite important; there appears to be a new 1X1 round tile. (At least I haven't seen it before) It appears to be on the staff of the snake people (trans colors), and also on quite a few of the vehicles (i.e. take a look at the missiles being fired by the snake chopper, and also all along the engine of the black car (light bley) and the middle of the blue jet (in yellow) This is a very cool piece and offers a great template for round hand-held items to be printed on.
-
You are 100% right but remember we used to like things like this! I say it's all in good fun.
-
Awesome stuff thank you Vertea!! Let's see; this is about as close to Jurassic Part as you can get without breaching the copyright law. I love the dinosaurs, very neat printing and detail on them and bright colors really give them a new and exotic feel! The triceratops in particular is very appealing, and so is the raptor! The vehicles aren't very impressive but do offer a bit of useful parts. (Although yellow is a hard sell for AFOL's) It seems they are taking the tranquilizer dart approach so that this isn't actually hurting dinosaurs, just putting them to sleep; I don't mind, easy on the kids and a great source of chap syringe pieces! Apart from the dinos and guns no real variety of new molds, but these are still preliminary so possible later on we will see some new gems. Here's to another great new theme!
-
I love the new stone-work brick they include in the small set!! My this will be a wall-building revolution! As far as the theme goes, some excellent new molds (weapons, headgear, and unique body parts!) I love the new snake molds! Finally a menacing looking snake piece, and I can only imagine that it will later on be produced in colors other than lime green. I am very happy with this new lineup! We know that the story/setting are completely nuts but that's irrelevant as they provide a very unique set of parts we would never see otherwise!

WW Category 2: 1908 Wild West Town
Sirens-of-Titan replied to marshal_banana's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Wow what an incredible build! From your innovative building designs, to your mind-blowing interior decor and vehicles I'd say this is not only one of the best entrees I've seen so far; it's one of the best WW themed MOC's in recent memory! Love the cheese slope detailing everywhere and the unique minifigure combos! Best of luck and congrats on a job well done! -
WIP: Bates House MOC need advice/suggestions
Sirens-of-Titan replied to Badsneaker's topic in LEGO Town
If I may offer my humble advise; I think if you extend the windows downward until they almost meet the roof line it will solve your esthetic issue. Also there appears to be a decorative strip in the picture just below the second story roof line that you can add for balance, but other than that a fantastic job so far! -
What a fascinating discussion! I was wondering where all the castle fans were! It's a pity there are no official confirmations of this theme yet. It's sad the company is privately held because if Lego does make the choice to acquire the LOTR as a license, I am sure the revenue will more than double and it would be a good time to invest! I mean who doesn't want a LOTR theme? I wanted one when I was a kid, wanted one even more when I saw the movies, and have been wishing for it even more ever since the Fantasy Era sets came out! It is the ultimate modern fantasy; the inspiration behind countless franchises in the videogame and war gaming worlds and one of the most sought-after and adrently followed franchises of all time. If Lego tap into that well there is no telling how far they can go with it! Think to the original release of starwars but bigger given the advanced level of online communities and number of involved AFOL's! All I have to say is: Give me an army of orcs or Uruk-Hai+/- a trool or two and I will be the happiest AFOL in the world! Picture this in Lego form:

@ Aanchir: Very well stated my friend, you are the voice of reason and level-headedness. The thing about violence in sets is that despite our best efforts to present children with an idealized view of the world in which everyone gets along, it is very difficult to sell the idea. Conflict is what makes any movie/play/novel and other story-based medium exciting. Just imagine any classic movie without a central conflict to move events and challenge the protagonists. If Indiana Jones was not set in the years prior to World War 2, and if there was no war in star wars would those movies have been successful? Conflict does not necessarily translate to gritty violence, and most Lego themes are open-ended enough so that they can be enjoyed at the level of harmless fun by kids as well as the level of seriousness by AFOL's and MOC'ers. I feel that is the best part of Lego's stories; you take them and interpret them at any level you wish to.

Big medieval landscape: BIG UPDATE on page 26
Sirens-of-Titan replied to maydayartist's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Once again a very creative and original building! I am very curious to see this whole build once it's done. I can only imagine how much you have to sink into it as resources! This will be the MOC to top all MOC"s! -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 6 Discussion
Sirens-of-Titan replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
If indeed the rumors are true then Lego would have struck at the heart of the AFOL nerve; a Roman soldier will warrant incredible sales and along with the rest of the already great series, should skyrocket series 6 to the top of the chart. -
Wow gearcs! I love the size and architecture in this! The variety of angles, mini areas of detail and varrying textures give the gray walls quite a bit of life. The characters look great and of course your minifigures are wonderfully picked out. The variety of orcs is especially cool. EDIT: Damn spelling errors

Tower of the Arcane (MOC)
Sirens-of-Titan replied to Sirens-of-Titan's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thank you all for the comments so far, I'm happy you like the new story. I don't really have a lot of time to build between work/school/etc. but when I do I organize well. This particular build only took 4 days, but it's not as large as my previous MOC's. I figured this is a good start to the series, and I can go up from here. I have a very interesting tale in mind, so stay tuned for more! -
Hello all! I'm happy to introduce my new lineup of fantasy creations (with this being the first) Like my previous story it is centered around a small group of characters, and still set in the same world. Unlike the previous series, this one has a slightly more-elaborate story that carries from creation to creation, and the characters are a bit more complex. (Prologue) Tower of the Arcane Story: 30 years after the fall of Count Vlad and his minions, the Kingdom of Leon has become a prospering Empire, covering the lands of men from sea to sea and filling in the borders of the ancient Empire of Tasher. In the West lands the tower of Edrin the Wise rises like a monolith to the arcane arts and marks the Western-most border of Leon. Edrin has held dominion over this land for nearly 200 years; protecting and caring for its people, hailed as the savior and guardian of the West, renowned for his wisdom and considered one of the most powerful Elemental Mages in the World. Alas, even the greatest Mage in Leon is mortal and can only ward off his demise for so long… Old age and a the byproducts of countless spells cast over his lifetime have drained Edrin of his strength and power. Even his beloved people have abandoned him in this state of weakness. Edrin the Wise now lies in his deathbed in the Tower; only his apprentice Kaloyan and his servant Roger remain bedside. As his life force leaves him, Edrin utters to his disciple; “Protect the people, protect the Kingdom of Leon my gentle Kaloyan”. Kaloyan: "Farewell my old friend, may they treat you better in the next world than they did in this one. Quit your sniveling Roger, this is a time to rejoice!" Roger: "Rejoice how ser?" Kaloyan: "The passing of my tutor makes me the senior-most mage in Western Leon; this is a moment I have been waiting for for nearly 20 years!Follow me, there are rites to attend to!" Up near the top of the tower: Kaloyan: "Ah here we are, the Rotunda of Elemental Magic!” Roger: What is this chamber ser? Tis’ fancier than the rest of the tower?” Kaloyan: “This is the portal to the paranormal, the opeining to the occult my dear servant. “ Roger: “What is it’s puropos ser?” Kaloyan: “Look around Roger; these are no simple mosaics. These pictographs are riddles with enchanted stones and runes od elemental magic. All the elements are present: air, water, fire, and earth. Over by the terrace you see the quintessence; the fifth element; the Dominion of the Underworld. It is the force of death magic in other words; a forbidden practice in Leon. This chamber can augment any spell and impose it on the surrounding area. This was Edrin’t secret weapon; I intend to make it my tool of dominion. Now Roger, head on down to the village and summon the elders to come up and greet their new lord” Some time later: The Elders arrive, but not a trace of rejoice or obedience is evident in their sturn faces and their frustrated postures. Kaloyan: “Well would you not bow And greet your lord?” Village Elder: “You have some nerve mage to summon us! We swore loyalty to Edrin the Wise long ago in exchange for his protection. His dominion over this land was earned and he suffered for his people. We have no loyalty towards you, you young cockerel!” Other Elder: Keep your nose buried in your books, and your eyes on the stars and let the Empire of Leon take care of its people. Third Elder: “Never send for us again or make claims of entitlement to power, or else the Emperial courts shall hear of your defiance! “ Kaloyan: “You dare speak to me that way you ungrateful peasants! Who are you to challenge the might of a Mage! Who are you to set foot in the hallowed chamber of the and denounce the practice that has saved your timber homes form fires, giants and advancing armies!” “Get out of my sight!” Kaloyan: “Cockerel! Filthy peasants! To speak that way to a mage, and in his own tower nonetheless! I’ve had it Roger, it’s time we used the fine resources my mentor never had the nerve to use! It’s time to teach these town-dwellers why it is that people feared mages before their precious Empire took over. Let us see what else Wise old Edrin has hidden away in this tower!” Kaloyan: “You poor old man… If only you could see what your beloved people think of mages now. You were too soft on them; they lost all respect for the power of your position. You could have had it all if only you had the ambition! To single handedly crush an Orc invasion and to slay a mighty dragon rider in service to the crown, not to mention defeat the greatest of the vampiri clans and why? So that these peasants can eat and drink and enjoy their sinful ways and demean you?! Kaloyan: “Let us look around” Kaloyan: “These are the ancient texts of the Tasher Mages! I can only imagine what kind of powerful spells must be described within!” Kaloyan: “Edrin’s Potions room! There is enough vials in here to fight a small army. Let’s see Roger what can we use to send a message to the little town below?” Kaloyan: “Ah yes! I have heard of this; why this should be quite the demonstration! This must be primed with a large amount of earth Magic. Let’s ascend the tower and see just how powerful this Rotunda is!” Kaloyan primes the spell and fills the potion with earth Magic> Kaloyan: “Come on Roger, at dawn we go down to the village and show these ungrateful peasants why a mage is to be respected! A new day will arrive and I will be the Harbinger of its advent!” “The era of submission is over; the era of the Mage is here!” To be continued… I hope you like it! Comments are welcome!

Well done Darkblane! The design is really neat and the color scheme is a work of beauty. It's great that you decided to use the base as it adds a ton of credibility to the rest of the lime green in the ship! I like your figures, and of course the smooth transition between Technic and System parts is very pleasing to the eye! I hope to see more of this type of build from you!

Wow Angeli! That is impressive in both scale and design. I love all the tran pieces anchored to the arches; it creates a very neat light effect. This will be a sight to behold when it's done! Am I correct in assuming this is your biggest city so far?

Does Kingdoms live up to Castle expectations?
Sirens-of-Titan replied to K-Nut's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Great topic! Here's my 2cents: Kingdoms is the best thing to happen to Castle since KK2 was terminated. While I am obvoiusley a lover of all things fntasy, I really love having 2 human factions to compete and populate the world of Lego. Here is the breakdown of how I see Kingdoms: Minifigures: Some of the best looking armor, printing, shield art, and horse barding of all time. Very true to actual Middle Ages coats of arms and not in any way cartoony. The introduction of the bucket helm really moved castle mini's into a new light; the early middle ages as opposed to the late, and with it came a ton of useful accessories like printed armor plates and matching body printing. The civilian mini's are also an incredible addition to any castle fan's collection. Without them all we had was MMV torsos. Buildings: A much more-realistic and true to life design that matched the earlier classic castle in architecture, but made use of earth tones and gorgeous subdued colors. This is the major improvement in my opinion; sets that look realistic and presentable. Setting/story: Very open-ended and light-hearted setting. The background art is always sunny and very romanticized, as opposed to dark and ominous. Kingdoms projects an aura of happiness and a spring-like warmth, which in my opinion makes for a far greater story-telling atmosphere. The title itself suggests a story of ongoing struggles and I personally would love to see this theme continue with at least one more wave. -
Thank you all for the great comments and thank you very much ISC for the frontpage! To answer a few questions; 1) Yes I do plan these out, but just the general layout and shape and not on a stud-by-stud basis. I mostly get an idea for a theme and go with it whenever possible, modding each little section until it fits well with the rest. 2) Although this is the end of Asparuh's story I will have one more fantasy series based around a new character, with a different approach/edge. These were all very straight forward MOC's without too much overlap in the story save for the characters. My plan is to do one that is a bit more-elaborate yet still allows for independent appreciation of each individual MOC. What can I say, I'm loving fantasy right now and I still have a few ideas I simply must put into brick form before doing something outside of the theme. For those who enjoy these I say this; you won't be disappointed in the new approach and new characters, and those who don't probably won't mind either way. 3) Unfortunately no LDD files exist for this, and I have bent quite a few rules of conventional attachment of bricks (without violating any) so it would not really work if I tried to make one. The wall is very very simple (a mosaic of bricks and headlight bricks with tiles attached.) and the towers are simply 8 hinge pieces and on top of them headlight bricks with cheese slopes, and round bricks. 4) Sandy I'd be honored to have this as a location in your Heroica RPG, please let me know what you have in mind. Thanks again to all!

Hello all! I've been planning this one for a long time, the dramatic resolution to the fantasy story I present to you: "The Purge of Evil" Story: The land of Kavala is a territory nestled in the hot deserts between Leon and the Eastern Kingdoms. Travelers and armies alike avoid the cursed wastelands when possible; and for good reason. Kavala is the home of the vampiri clans; blood-thirsty beings that command an archaic type of magic which allows them to pass between the spirit world and the real one. Although they are creatures of flesh and blood, vampiri are in essence demonic spirits that make their way across the veil and terrorize the world of men. Count Vlad of Kavala has long been a scourge on the Kingdom of Leon. His armies of slavers and ghoulish fiends have plagued Leon’s parishes for nearly ten years; pillaging, burning and killing. With the aid of a monstrous drake Count Vlad’s forces have destroyed dozens of towns and even the Impregnable Castle Leon; the former dominion of Asparuh the Warrior. Now the King of Leon authoritatively moves against the wicked Count with a full force and the aid of the kingdom’s most remarkable heroes. Asparuh of Leon and his companions have invaded Kavala making their way to Vlad’s capital and seat of power; The Fortress of Zagora. After a long and costly battle the outer wall of the fortress has fallen and only the keep itself remains. Inside, Count Vlad and the remnants of his clan and army lash out against the advancing knights, breaking them at the walls as if they were waves in a sea. Asparuh and his companions now make a final push on the keep and attempt to, once and for all, purge the evil of Vlad and the vampiri form the face of the earth. Asparuh the Warrior Leads the Assult Ghouls! Cursed men who have been turned by the Vampiri, their suffering will soon come to an end... Edrin the Wizard takes no chances when it comes to undead annihilation Count Vlad and his second-in-command Nya overlook the battle below On the high terrace of Zagora, a decade of pain and suffering end with a single thrust of Asparuh's blade. Count Vlad is no more, good triumphs over evil today... To see the full set of Pictures please see my MOCPAGES LINK I hope you enjoy it! Comments are welcome!
