What a beautiful scene Derfel! Love the snow and the tower design; I'd love to see you build a whole keep in the style although it's ridiculousness part-intensive. The figures are also a great touch; I'm a sucker for thematic armies and those storm cloaks are absolutely stunning, and the mage that's with them looks like a legitimate Lego villain. Keep up the Skyrim MOC's!

Historica is planned to go on until late fall next year, that is unless interest from the members keeps it going beyond that. It all depends on how novel and interesting it feels at that time. I wouldn't be afraid to dive right in nonetheless; 2 minutes in heaven is better than 1 minute in heaven. -

Hello Guildsmen, What a lovely snowy day in Mitgardia it is. @Rolli: Beautiful embassy! I can't wait to see it finished, make sure to take great pictures because that baby is worth it. @Jakon: It definitely sounds like a grand idea to have an index of all races, just keep in mind it's gonna be very difficult to go through everybody's work and extract all the imaginary races. If you have the time/will I say go for it, we'll include it in our Main Guild Discussion afterwards. @Claus Von Nassau: Welcome to the guild! Wonderful collection of troops you have there; I'm sure you'll find Mitgardia to be a welcoming and exciting place. Well here we are, a bit of time still left until embassy challenge comes to completion, I hope everyone who is planning on entering is keeping track of time, also please keep in mind all the mini challenges are also due at the time of the embassy challenge. (reproduced here for your convenience) Long live Mitgardia! -

Great embassy Rucorder! darkdragon, it's good to see the gold has been spent responsibly. Mitgardians, with January almost at an end, I hope all embassies for challenge 2 are well under way. There is still plenty of time until the deadline, and I encourage you to spend time on refining your builds, even if it means posting them the week of the deadline. Remember; we won round one because of our quality builds, let's do the same with round 2. Also, I am officially endorsing Angeli's Drow battle arena; I encourage you to make a fighter and enter the fight on behalf of the great Northern Guild of Mitgardia, and show the Drow what we Mitgardians are made of! -
Absolutely beautiful and epic fantasy scene lisqr! The colors are very subdued and have a mystic quality. What colors are those trees?

This certainly is bad news, the Mitgardian Court of Valholl sends their condolences to all who knew Than-Reya and vows to better protect it's emissaries from danger in the future. A tribute of 1000gold pieces has been sent to the Urk'cape tribe to help them cope with their loss. As for the Wolfpack Rescue Company, the Court thanks them for their efforts, and for taking over oversight of our embassy's construction. -
Beautiful technique Derfel! It's remarkably effective and authentic to your style. I'd love to see a small fortress built this way.

By all means please feel free to build there. If you want to have a dwarven character who lives in the city, owns a mine, forge or anything along those lines feel free to do it! I'd love to see your take on it. I built the Omurtag Palace Complex a while ago, use it for reference if you want, or set up your own design or another section in the city. -
Great MOC Ru! It really captures the dire conditions of frontier life. The colors are nicely balanced, and the minifigures and architecture are truly excellent! Two thumbs up from me!

Hello Guildsmen! As has been already stated, congratulations are in order for we have won the First Challenge! Not only did Mitgardia win the highest overall score, but it's creations accounted for 1/3 of the top 6 entrees! I am immensely proud of our achievement; it was a group effort, as all towers were considered in calculating our guild's overall score! Let's keep this up in round two with the embassy challenge! It would be great to have a creation story like that, just make sure you treat it like a Legend, not actual events. Early on the guild leaders decided that gods of any sort will not be actual participants in events of Historica. But if it's something like the Greek or Norse Myths, then I say go for it! Welcome to the Guild! Great to have you, I assure you you have chosen wisely! -
This is a very original ship! The execution is great, your woodwork is awesome, and the colors go well with the subject depicted. If I may humbly make a suggestion though; your main back sail is a little bit too small, and looks a bit off. If you make a custom sail that's 2 or 2.5 times as long as the one you have on right now it will instantly look better. Check out proportions of this Well done!

The idea is that templates will gradually get bigger as these challenges move along. A lot of people don't have a huge collection, so we're focusing on quality vs. size. Not to worry though, towards the final challenges I'm sure the allowance will be big enough accommodate your large-scale work. -

To answer a few questions: 1) Yes, for mini-challneges I'd say LDD is ok, BUT please use good taste and scale. As these are mini challenges, please don't unleash a monstrous 2000+ part MOC on us. 2) Yes the deadline is the same as the embassy challenge. 3) Thanks Rasputin, Happy new Year to you as well! -

Hello all, it's my time to add to the landscape of Mitgardia again; this time it is a catacomb set in the Mitgardian Mountains. more here It's time for a few mew build challenges! Category 1: The Mytgardian Legend: Write a short story and build a small MOC that shows off the lore of the North. Sleeping giants? Dangerous catacombs? Dragon's nests? Tundra trolls? You bet, all are welcome! Make it a great build and story and I will bestow upon 2 skillful builders the title of "Lore Master" Category 2: Ship-Building: Build a mighty vessel from the North, and place it in a harbor, or out at sea. Don't limit yourself to viking ships, and especially please don't use those giant viking hulls unless they are done in style. I would like to see some more-interesting medieval warships. Get creative here. A scene would be great here. Best builder here gets the "Admiral of the Mitgardian Fleet" Category 3: Celebration Day: This one is fun! Describe and build a scene from a Mitgardian festival or celebration. It can be a religious occasion, a military victory, a seasonal (harvest) festival or a traveling troupe of performers. Aesthetics will be key here. Best 2 Builds get the title of "Mitgardian Bard" I hope to see more of you join the builds, I am still waiting on a few members to join the building fun. Long live Mitgardia! -
Thanks guys, it's always a pleasure to hear your comments!

To address a few questions: 1) The Mitgardian capital is Valholl and nobody has yet built anything for it. As this is the residence of my character, I will eventually build quite a few scenes set in Valholl, but if anyone else wants to take a shot at it, please be my guest. No maps, no plots of land and no assigning people particular places; let's agree it's a huge city and apart from the royal palace and a few major religious/economic buildings, housing is open to all to build! 2) Custom flags? Yes it's allowed although the yellow green flags are pennies on bricklink, but if you don't use sites like bricklink it's understandable to build some yourself. The only criteria is be mindful of scale and use good taste. 3) Starting your own city/town etc.: I don't have to give permission for guildsmen to start a new colony/city etc. If you want to build up your own corner of the Northern frontier you may do so. Just let Viceroy know if you're adding something new, so that he can incorporate your town in the map, or give suggestions for good locations! 4) Embassy challenge: Lots of Avalonian embassies already have started to appear. it's still early to have finished embassies, but it may be a good idea to start planning. I am not worried; I know our guild's quality is always up to par, and so I'm simply waiting to be pleasantly surprised again! That's all for now, as always long live Mitgardia! -

Greetings Guildsmen! Happy New Year to all! @ Fat Tony: That is one f the best brick-built dragons I've ever seen! Well done, I would love to see the finished beast! @ Gondabuggan: Welcome to the Guild! I recommend starting by building yourself a character, writing a short story and posting a few pictures so we can all meet our new Mitgardian brother. Occupations range from settlers and farmers, to warriors and hunters, to wizards and traders. (Although our guild is a bit short on wizards) Get creative and have fun most of all! Long live Mighty Mitgardia! -
It's all good mate, no bad feelings; I actually think you pulled it off better than I did. The color scheme is much more balanced and your pictures and editing quality are amazing. Cheers and thanks!

Shameless self-promotion at it's best, but we may consider sending an ambassador down to the Drow cities, rest assured. (although it was my initial impression that Drow aren't interested in diplomacy... ) -
Hey there, Great design, great furniture, great geometry and mosaics...hold on a minute.. where have I seen this before? Oh yes, I built this 3 months ago : I'm humbled that you'd follow my design so closely, but I don't see my MOC listed as inspiration either here or on Flickr and it makes this MOC'er get a bit sour seeing some other guy push these as his own designs. I humbly request that you do so, and I'll list you as inspiration if i ever copy that great tree design. Cheers.

You are right I don't think you have enough titles yet either! In all seriousness I totally missed this, so here it is: The post above has been edited to reflect our new Royal Architects. Of course, welcome and pleased to have you! Post your proposal here and Viceroy may include your town on the map, if you ask him nicely. Good question Dan, I wrote it in the first post but neglected to transfer it here. For the top 5 the title is "Round One Defender of Mitgardia" -

Check out the new "Religion" section of our guild description in the first post ) Round one judging is nearing its final stages; the top 5 Mitgardian Watchtowers have been selected by the Valholl council of elders and each of the top 5 builders will receive a special title and prize for this honor. Picking these was a challenge, as each builder here displayed a tremendous level of involvement, skill and creativity, and in the end these were agreed upon to represent Mitgardia in Round 1. May I present to you: Mitgardia Top Five: "Welcome to Mitgardia" by Busboy489 "Watchtower at the pass" by rucorder "Guarding the road to Valholl" by Ecclesiastes "Syalir Peak Watch Tower" by Dan Church "Hot Springs Tower" by Viceroy (Please note they aren't in any sort of ranked order; all 5 occupy the same niche) All titled members please include your titles in your signatures. The overall winning guild of this round will be announced within a few days. Congratulations once again and I hope there will be just as much involvement and creativity in round 2 as there was in round 1! Long Live Mighty Mitgardia! -Jarl Nibelung -
I'll help you out; yes it is Vanek, and you'll find out what exactly they're talking about in the next few chapters. Thank you, I appreciate it! No I am a pre-medical student, but story writing has always been a hobby of mine though, and i've been raised on a steady diet of classic and new fantasy books, movies and video games. You name it, there's a good chance I've at least read up on it, so to me they are the easiest stories to write and build on. If I had to pin my style on one source I'd say Terry Pratchett is definitely my hero. Thanks for your inquiry!
