I think the green robes are an interesting second attempt. I wouldn't be surprised if they went with black and green details again like the last prototype/release Voldemort contrast. Finally giving him a robe is great, though, and the face is nice. The molding is shoddy, but I believe it's at least a real prototype.

Unless it's not a minifigure set, it would make a lot of sense for the D2C to be compatible with the other Hogwarts sections. It could be like the Disney Castle or Tower of Orthanc; a huge structure with a lot going on that is still minifigure-oriented and fits in with the other sets. For it to just be a big set covering stuff from the other sets would be a little odd, because even at that price, they wouldn't be able to represent all of those landmarks in one model.

Geez, every hour is like ten more pages on this thread! I'm mixed on the four-pack. While I think it's great, all of them feel better suited for a CMF series. Wouldn't generic Hogwarts figures (students, or even ghosts) be more appropriate for a side release like this. That being said, the figures look nice. Hooch is meh and I'm not totally sold on the Grandma style for Umbridge's hair, but Slughorn is nice to finally see, and Boggart Snape is fantastic. I forgot there was another possible use for the bird/hat combo, but LEGO saw it! On the dead topic of Lucius' hair, it would probably have to be a new piece, like Gandalf/Saruman's hair/beard without the beard. His hair is very straight and most often falls in front of his shoulders, too, so the new Dumbledore's hair would work, but it wouldn't be perfect.

The Hogwarts Express looks great, especially with the station included. I'm not sold on Lupin's hair, but it's much better than before. The Quidditch pitch also looks great, but the Whomping Willow set is a pretty, if non-essential castle add-on that I could pass on. So are the Dementor's hands black or grey? The latter is what we were shown in the leaks, and is more accurate due to the iconic shot of the hand clawing around the door.

Ha, I knew the Dementor would use the new ghost piece! Personally, I like it a lot more. In the first film they were in, at least, their robes were a lot heavier and were actually robes, not like mummy cloth pulled tightly around them, so I don't mind the standard minifigure proportions. The weird skeleton-pogo leg always confused me, too, and I like that we finally get a head that's just a hole in the hood over the face, and not a completely exposed face.

Huh. This topic gave me a lot to think about. I know I used to be one of the most obnoxious users on here, saying far too much about anything, but now I find I have nothing to say. I've seen good threads go dead and active threads which just have nothing of substance, being wild speculation and wishlisting with no actual opinion or commentary, anything worth reading. I now find myself clicking on threads just to clear my notifications, but not to actually read them. I always liked having discussions about new things coming out, and I remember a higher percentage of thought-out long answers instead of quick comments without much to say, but in the past three years at least, I've seen fewer places for genuine engagement. I don't really know how that would be solved, because moderation does its best, but never have I seen these irrelevant conversations truly improve. There are still things I come for; I love @Robert8's minifigure design thread and discussing designs and writing bios, and whenever a CMF series is out, I'll be there to share my thoughts, but any licensed theme discussion feels like it's full of fluff. I've never been one for general community activity, but I did enjoy having real discussions about sets and fan creations. I see less of that now.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 18 Rumors and Discussion

That last picture of the Joker just proves my critique of the clown: the yellow skin clashes with the other colors. If the clown had white makeup like the Joker, it would be one of my favorites in the series...however, it's still worth purchasing for the Clown Prince of Crime himself. -
In both of their heydays, Castle and HP happily coexisted, because HP really isn't a Castle theme. The lack of a Castle theme now owes more to the 2013 wave and Nexo Knights than it does to this one emerging. It seems like NK and this will make whatever potential Castle theme coming up more historically-oriented, but I'm not convinced it'll never come back.

I think that was just a pun on the vegetable leek. No way that stem piece could work as a Bowtruckle.

The Niffler could not be anything else. The eyes are LEGO styled, the colors are distinctly from its palette, there is visible dual-molding, and even the sculpt styling matches their other animal pieces. It's a LEGO mold.

Cursed Child seems like a rather unlikely source for sets, regardless of controversial decisions. They've never done a theater-sourced license (which actors would be portrayed by minifigures is a definite issue) and due to the different likenesses from the films, it would likely be a subtheme like the DCU sets being separate from the comic sets.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 18 Rumors and Discussion

The problem with cactus-monsters is that there are very few standard green heads. Unless you're willing to go a shade off with Bright Green, you'll be stuck with the decidedly non-monstrous Toy Story Army Man heads. -
How, exactly? It's either a spell projection or a tattoo. Neither would be a three-dimensional construct in bricks, and making a skull with a snake coming out of it would be tricky with LEGO pieces, anyway.

CMF hands have to be loosened a little to connect studs on top of them. Putting a bar in their hands first might help. -
They probably don't see a point in making a different castle for each movie. The first and second films are under the same production crew, and Hogwarts is pretty much the same in both films, so it's easy to combine those. The third film is when the castle starts getting changes due to the changes in production later in the series, so a new castle set would be needed then.

How would they do the suitcase, though? I'm imagining something like an assorted scene of dioramas for each of his magical habitats, with the open suitcase in mega-scale on top of the scenes, as if they've jumped into it and entered its pocket dimension? It's either that or just the interior scenes.

If the line continues in future waves, yes, but we don't have any information that would suggest he's coming, even in the dodgy set list we've been talking about.

I don't think inclusion is good if it isn't done well. If a minifigure seems lazy or poorly-done, I'm not inclined to think it was a worthwhile addition to a set. I'd rather have one done correctly from the get-go, and in this new Wizarding World line, it feels off when there's something subpar due to the Great Hall already demonstrating that there are many new molds in this line. Looking at Hermione and Hagrid and the like, I feel like they could have and should have given the characters here new or more appropriate pieces. Also, sorry, I got caught away with the carriages. They look pretty much identical to the Hogwarts fare, so that earlier comment got me thinking too fast to remember the context. Perhaps Grindelwald just copied them.

We're complaining because the figures could have been better. Just having Picquery in the set doesn't make her good. Her lack of molded or even printed hair under her hat makes her look outdated, and even a few folds or wrinkles of fabric on her dress would have made her look proper. It's not as good of a figure as it could have (and should have) been. Grindelwald may still be accurate to a look we haven't seen yet, but it's clear from Seraphina already that there are probably improvements that could have been made. That's definitely a Hogwarts Thestral-drawn carriage, so perhaps he was being imprisoned at the school?

Having seen the trailer, I think Grindelwald could have used either the Snape or Master Luke Skywalker hair. The slicked-back style isn't close to either his FB style or the COG style.

I didn't even notice that was a video. Well, now that I have, I'm excited. The carriage looks great, though Picquery and Grindelwald aren't impressing me.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 18 Rumors and Discussion
8BrickMario replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
LEGO wouldn't sell an armless torso, so the whole piece is either specially molded or fused together like Axl's body. As is, there's no removing the suit. -
I feel like a dementor figure could use the ectoplasmic ghost legs in solid black to imitate the hanging tattered robes. They could use normal torsos as well, since the skeleton body and bizarre pogo legs never quite captured the billowing cloaks they wore. They might also do well without an open hood exposing their faces, and they're not afraid to make new pieces...
