  1. Surprised that people here don't seem too impressed with this episode, I thought it was pretty amazing. For starters it actually gave Ventress some personality and turned her into a very cool character. I also believe her EU backstory remained intact and she was even using the ship from the animated Clone Wars shorts. The writing in the episode was really fantastic, as well as the animation. Some of Ventress' expressions, particularly after Dooku had betrayed her were really great and made you feel a lot more for the character, even though she's still very much the villain. We also saw them move away from the political focused episodes we've had lately and was much more action based. The dogfight in space at the start was amazing and the lightsaber duels, especially the four man at the end was better choreographed than anything from the movies! Oh, and Dooku's pyjamas were awesome Though I will agree that the assassination attempt didn't make a whole lot of sense.
  2. For the cheaper price, I think this is a great set that would look great on display. But for the £100 they were originally asking.. I'm not surprised we haven't had a review until now.
  3. I actually quite like this set. The colour scheme of the starfighter itself is a little basic, but it seems more like what the Jedi should be flying. I mean, who's giving them the money/time to customise these things? But perhaps something matching his astromech would have made it a bit more interesting. But I like the simplicity of these wedge starfighters and I think they look great all together (I'll take a picture of them all, when I get the set, if nobody else does first). And for the younger crowd, looking for something to play around with, I think these JSF sets offer a lot and that's probably why they've sold so well and we've seen so many variants.
  4. Bare in mind these are prelim pictures. Most of the PoTC sets are just blank boxes, I don't think it's too far fetched to assume they could just be using the 2004 Falcon as a place holder. Granted, I don't understand the logic of the EU. But then why is he referred to as Greedo in Episode 1? Repeatedly.
  5. Once again (at least in the UK site) most of the sets that were discounted were already out of stock BEFORE they went on sale, can't say I'm impressed with that. Did manage to get the Palpatine magnet set and mid scale Star Destroyer for half-price though, so I'm happy with that.
  6. I'm glad to see the Starfighter's been knocked down a bit and that it's clearly been selling poorly. It's an OK set, I'd probably get it now if the January sets were up for order at the same time.. But hopefully they'll judge the value of sets like that a bit better in the future.
  7. If you want to get technical, it actually falls slightly before official "G-canon". Most people consider the stories to be canon, but are liable to be overwritten by higher sources.. Such as the movies or TCW. My problem with the EU comes from the quality of it though, most of it is dire and usually doesn't even remain consistent within itself. How can you bash TCW for not remaining consistent with something that wildly varies depending on the writer? The movies didn't really retcon anything, so much as change from peoples expected vision of SW. Again, I have no problem with people expressing opinions one or the other, it just seems like every other post in these threads is some kind of snide anti-Clone Wars comment and it's getting very tiring to read them all the time. Back on the topic of the JSF's.. Another thing I didn't like about the EU was the tendency to colour code things like this. Aayla Secura has a blue starfighter, Kit Fisto's is green, Mace's is purple and so forth. It's a little silly, although in this case, it definitely would have made for a better set if Mace did have a purple one. It's odd that they picked such a bland colour scheme, since people often say these new vehicles are only introduced to sell toys.
  8. I thought some of the Clone Wars bashing may have stopped a little, after the huge discussion in the last thread, but I guess not. So just to through it out there again.. the timeline hasn't been "ruined" or "retconned" everything you guys are talking about is part of the EU and not official canon. Unless it's adopted into the official lore.. like what we've seen with characters like Quinlan Vos, it should be considered nothing more than a "what if" scenario. Again, much of the EU is written by hack writers with zero talent.. You can't expect them to acknowledge every little thing that may have been good and ignore the reams and reams that's considered bad. As for these starfighters.. I don't mind them too much, they're pretty basic sets that are clearly meant more for the younger crowd, and I think they're good in that respect. They're swooshable little ships that come with fairly good minifigs and again, I'd blame the source material on this one, as Mace just had a very boringly designed ship. Kit Fisto's may have been a better choice but it would have been a third red one. I hope we see the Eta-2's introduced in the Clone Wars shortly as they're just overall more interesting ships.
  9. Personally, I hate the EU. The majority of it is absolute garbage written by hack writters who would have been rejected for Star Trek Enterprise. It does have its moments and its fair share of good story arcs.. However, it's exactly what the title says it is, expanded universe. None of it is official and should only ever be seen as fun side stories for people who enjoy the lore, not 100% set in stone canon. A few good elements from it have been brought over into the movies or the series, and that's fine. But personally, I don't think you can have it both ways. Why are things like Mara Jade and Thrawn consider holy where as Luuke is shunned by even the biggest EU fans? It's either all canon, or none of it is. I think the fans of the expanded fiction should be grateful that even small parts of it have been adopted as canon. If you happen to like the EU though.. that's fine, I don't complain about it everytime we see a new set come from it and I wouldn't even be bothered if we saw an increase of EU sets being released. Other posters have already said similar things, but I've never been one who's posted much on these forums and a big part of that is due to the attitudes of many posters here. It seems every other post I see is some kind of snide comment about the CW. It's extremely arrogant and immature, which is ironic considering CW being a "kiddy show" seems to be one of the biggest complaints against it (for the record, I'm in my 20's and hated the prequel movies). Expressing your opinion is one thing but many of them have definitely crossed a line, and I'd especially expect to see some of the higher ranked users setting a better example. Like it or not, the Clone Wars is currently what's keeping Star Wars going. The show is definitely not aimed solely at children and even the first few episodes showed this. Finally, you can be pretty sure Lego wouldn't have kept the Star Wars licence going for so long without the CW constantly providing the new material for them.
  10. I think Shaak-ti and Tinn look fine. A little odd, but I'm not sure how else they could have done their heads. I don't see any problem with her face, she always had rather large lips. I think the Aurra Sing minifig is my favourite though, her expression is perfect :)
  11. That seems like a really odd move consider the reason they've been selling so well is because people like the minifigs, you'd think the recent random bags would be proof of that too. Watch the sales of magnet sets drop when that starts happening. I understand that they want people to buy the expensive sets to get the minifigs. But surely releasing the magnets much later than when the sets first go on sale is enough to cut down on that. I really don't understand the reasoning behind this.
  12. Nothing in the EU is canon, and if the MF is ever introduced in the Clone Wars (which is very possible but would be rather silly) it would almost certainly ignore these novels.
  13. I can see why long time collectors may be getting sick of so many re-releases, but you do have to remember that not everyone buys LEGO all the time. A lot of people may have missed older sets or only just started collecting. I only started buying sets in 2008 so it's not just for the younger crowd, I've been pretty happy with the selection of sets we've had. But we do seem to be getting less OT sets, the 2011 lineup is almost totally absent of them and I think that's because they've decided to go with more new Clone Wars sets rather than re-releasing so many old ones.. and I think this is a good move. TCW gives us a chance to get more brand new sets with new characters and in a few more years they can revisit some of the older sets that need updating.. such as the X-Wing. If you're sick of it, stop buying them for a while. There's only so much they can diversify with the licence and focusing on TCW is a clear attempt to do this.
  14. I hope you're right, but it was obviously pointing in that direction. And like I mentioned a while back, they have hinted at a romantic relationship plot for Ahsoka. This is obviously going to be it. (Rather than with Chuchi as we speculated :P) As for her being a knight, one of her first lines about that did throw me off. But she is referred to as a Padawan several times later on. On another note, do we have an episode next week? I'm not in the US and don't really know how the scheduling works but we only had a teaser for the movie being shown after the last episode, so I assume there's no more episodes for a while due to Thanksgiving then Christmas, etc?
  15. I can definitely see Ahsoka's character arc going the way of Romeo & Juliet here but I sincerely hope it's not something they follow up on. The second the character was onscreen it was blindingly obvious they were going to be in some kind of romance plot. I do like the fact we finally got to see a different side of the separatists, but the boys character was very bland, several of the lines between the two made no sense what-so-ever and personally, I really feel it cheapens Ahsoka, who's otherwise been a great character to watch develop. Throwing in a romance arc really takes away from that and I'll be very disappointed if it's how they choose to end the series. That aside, I thought the episode was great. The story was genuinely interesting, non action based and again, it was good to see the other side of the Separatists, that they've been insisting is there all along. Just leave the awkward teeny bopper romance out of it next time.
  16. To be fair, she had the reverse grip style before Starkiller and both were based on Quinlan Vos. The double lightsabers was teased some time back too, when you inputed a secret code on the Cartoon Network site. I'd say it's more of a coincidence that both characters have turned out with somewhat similar styles. Though again I'd point out that Ahsoka does these because of her agility. It makes sense to have a second saber, more for defence. (which isn't held backwards and is shorter). Unlike Starkillers approach of just constantly holding two backwards and looking utterly ridiculous :P
  17. They obviously built up to this point but that doesn't mean the next game will follow on from there. There were several moments in the game why Optimus is asked why he didn't step up and become leader sooner, which he simply shrugs off and responds with "There's much you don't know about me." and then later "That is a story for another time". But I'm guessing they're just leaving their options open. Being set on Earth would likely mean they'd have to redesign all the transformers though.
  18. I'll have to go with Aurra Sing, I really love her character. Shaak Ti and Embo are a close second though.
  19. This is coming straight off a wikipedia article with no source, so I'll go out on a limb and say this is false. However, as others have said, HP 5-7 is almost certain and Toy Story is at least a possibility, though personally I can't see how it'd be that interesting.
  20. http://www.wired.com/underwire/2010/11/clone-wars-ahsoka-new-look/ Interesting article, plus an explanation for Ahsoka's new costume, which does appear to be a permanent change and not a one off thing like many feared and reveals her two lightsabers, which we knew about but hadn't properly seen. Also confirms Anakin and Obi-wan will be getting costumes more inline with their Episode 3 attires.
  21. I quite like the tri-winged shuttle actually, better designs than the other shuttles so far anyway. As for Vos, I get the feeling Lego probably wanted to include more of the main characters.. Anakin, Obi-wan and Ahsoka rather than the one of Jedi characters that a lot of kids may not even remember. I think Shaak Ti and Tinn have been requested for a lot longer than Vos have, so they probably decided to just hold him back for a later set.
  22. I'm not sure what more you could want from this episode. The atmosphere was really great in the palace, really reminiscent of things in Jabba's palace in Episode VI, without directly ripping them off. We had good music, slave dancers in metal bikini's and a big music number that were all really well done. The fight at the end is one of the best action scenes of the series. We had the first major character of the series die, which I'm sure a lot of fans won't be sorry about.. and from what I understand, they kept Vos pretty close to his EU appearances, in terms of his personality and force abilities. Not as good as Assassin or Cadets, in my opinion but at least showing that the quality is staying improving.
  23. Really amazing news! I've only just started playing through the first game (couldn't justify paying full price for such a short game and the lack of offline multiplayer killed it for me) but I'm really enjoying it a lot. Easily the best portrayal of the Transformers ever, in my opinion. I really loved how they're so closely based on the G1 styles but brought more up to date. I had been looking forward to the new 'Prime' TV show before I saw the designs they were going with. All I'd really ask for this time would be more diverse locations.. Being set on Cybertron really limited what they could do and to have offline co-op this time.
  24. I thought the final episode was actually really fantastic. The only thing that really let it down was the ending, considering it was the season finale, it was somewhat anti-climatic. Though it was interesting how they portrayed Boba Fett, I was expecting to see him as more of a straight up villain, instead he almost makes peace with the Jedi and Windu at the end. I'm not a huge Fett fanboy, but I'll be interested to see how they continue his story.
  25. We've had Jedi die because of the bad guys before. I just hope he kills someone who matters. Master Di was a pretty cool character and his death would have been dramatic.. if he didn't die in the very episode he was introduced in. We need them to build up some more of these new Jedi characters before simply killing them off. But yeah, really impressive new trailer, seems we're finally getting somewhere with this series. I don't think it's been as bad as some people are implying but perhaps they shouldn't have grouped so many of those filler episodes together.
