Any way to add multiple arms to a minifig?
ED-209 replied to HumanPackMule's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
If you do intend to powerdrill some new arm sockets, be careful. Not only of your personal safety, that should be obvious, but also powerdrills tend to skip a little - which is of course very noticeable at this scale. Personally, I take a scalpel and place it right at the centre point of where I want the hole; then rotate the scalpel gently. This wears a small dimple in the plastic that will help keep the drill bit from slipping or skipping across the surface. Whichever path you take, good luck with it! -
My first thought when I saw this thread was: knives. Your choice of blue-grey or chrome! I don't think that they'd be too short; after all bayonets were usually more of a dagger-length than sword-length, weren't they?

What figure represents the castle line?
ED-209 replied to Tom Bricks's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'd opt for a knight over one of the kings - one of the most recognisable and iconic images that people associate with the middle ages is the "knight in shining armour"; a king just isn't quite specific enough in my mind. Then for me it's the question of which knight? As much as I like the new castle figs, if we're aiming for something a little more vintage, I'd lean towards someone like this: -
I think he probably means "the green area is grass, right?" That being said, the whole thing looks very nice! The elegant, clean lines of a Japanese house are very recognisable in your work. I don't think that there's a problem using tiles or SNOT for grass, but it is usually a more "textured" surface so I think that studs are perfectly justifiable. Personally, I'd try to keep the grass uniform - if it's tiled inside the courtyard then it should be tiled outside the house too. (But that's just my two cents! )

Why havent they resurrected the robin hood series?
ED-209 replied to The Chronicler's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
That's a very good point! After all, the Lego dwarves/skeletons/trolls trailed a couple of years after the Lord of the Rings films raised kids' awareness of the "motif". While I don't expect Ridley Scott's Robin Hood to be terribly kid-friendly, I'm going to cross my fingers that Lego do seize the opportunity! Even if all we get is another civilian-themed set like the MMV with new Robin Hood caps, I'd be happy! -
Either the red coats or the pirates, it's hard to decide! But I voted for the red coats because I'm in a law-abiding mood!

ZOMG, I love it! The building is quite nice but it's the figures that seal the deal for me! I think that I actually prefer the look of the golden knight without the armour over the top - it's just such a gorgeous torso. Reminds me a lot of Charles the First's armour: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3488/318043...4ba8133.jpg?v=0

Ah, Capt.Kirk beat me to it! (And very nicely too!) But I went with Vinnie Jones' costume from the X-Men 3 movie, so I figure it's still worth posting it! I figure it'd look pretty sharp when coupled with one of the troll helmets! http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=bb324

Simple, yet very effective! Reminds me of Robin's costume in Alex Ross' Kingdom Come - and the leather flight helmet has a bit of an Elseworlds vibe to it.

Spider-Man and The Terrible Ten
ED-209 replied to tin7_creations's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Woah, very nice indeed!! I really like the Vulture's wings, and Mysterio looks awesome! I like Sandman too, but I may be a little biased there! My only question is: movie Kraven?! Am I missing something here? I mean you've done an excellent job and he certainly looks cool and the costume design is a far more sensible (rather than looking like he raided Freddie Mercury's wardrobe!), but is this a design that appeared in some unused film concept art or something? I'm quite curious about this, I always liked Kraven but felt that his traditional comic costume always looked a little too ridiculous to take him seriously! (Damn, I really need to make myself a Mysterio figure now! ) -
Oho, exceptionally well done! Great decals, Killer Moth looks awesome, and I love Man Bat's hair! And yeah, the Mad Hatter has full-size legs in the game:

I still think that there's a few more good possibilities for sets, but then that didn't seem to keep the Batman line afloat, did it? I mean ideas like the Last Crusade tank fight and Ravenwood's bar from Raiders spring to mind. But no, disappointingly I fear that the line will run out of steam shortly.
-
Ooh, absolutely gorgeous! I like it even more than your bakery, I think that the choice of colours makes it stand out against the MMV buildings - gives it a sense of individuality. I'm looking forward to seeing more pics (eventually!)
-
Haha, that's awesome man! I love it, although now you need to build a series and incorporate it into a huge temple entrance!

Thanks Shoc, thought I'd add in a couple of new ones! Reed Richards, Mr Fantastic: and his wife Sue Storm, The Invisible Woman: I suppose Reed's torso could also be used for Johnny Storm when he's not on fire too. Two versions of a Spidey villain, the Sandman: Hope you guys enjoy! And BTW, I'm still open to further suggestions/requests that anyone might have?

Jack Napier - origin of a supervillain
ED-209 replied to ED-209's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Ah, so it wasn't just me then? -
A very simple custom, and in my opinion, a great use for the grinning head from the Indy Shanghai Chase set! For those not in the know, this fellow takes a dip in a chemical bath and winds up like this: (Incidentally, my apologies if someone has already done this first! )
-
Haha! That's a great idea!

Thanks! Yeah, I try to base the faces on official Lego heads so they kind of "fit in" more. The Hulk is based on one of the Viking heads, Nick Fury is based on the new pirate captain, Wonder Woman is based on Catwoman. Anyway, here's a few more: First up is Wonder Woman again, this time in the new "licensed minifig" flesh tone. It seems a little off to me, but these are apparantly the correct CMYK values. I've added the face decal too (for both versions), as I stupidly forgot that she'd need her tiara! LOL, thank you, well the "bump" is meant to be more of a "crease" in the outfit! I wasn't trying to portray a pot-bellied Robin, although that is a rather funny concept! I sort of went with the way that Burt Ward's costume was more of a tunic than tights (or at least that was my intention!) But here's a version of Grayson's outfit with a more heroic physique if you'd prefer it! http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss186/EdwardTheRed/Lego%20decals/GreenLantern.jpg' alt='GreenLantern.jpg'>

Say, that's a great idea! I assume this was the kind of Robin outfit you were thinking of? I decided against doing detailed musculature because it looked a little freaky! Don't forget to use use "naked" arms and legs though! I intend to make Wonder Woman in both yellow and flesh tones, but can anyone tell me what colour the flesh of licensed figures is? I'm trying to match the CMYK values using the colour charts: http://www.peeron.com/inv/colors http://www.peeron.com/cgi-bin/invcgis/colorguide.cgi ...but "flesh" (officially "nougat") seems way off. Am I way off here, or what?

Really just for the fun of it to be honest, well, at least at this stage. When I've built up enough decals to fill an A4 page I intend to either print them all at once myself, or get them all printed professionally. Thanks for all the kind words guys, it's always nice to feel appreciated! I'm open to any other suggestions, if anyone has any good ideas for other characters to make decals for?

My version of the new Gold Knight
ED-209 replied to diabloiij's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Very nice indeed! LOL You know the first thing that springs into my mind? That this poor bastard is the King's decoy! The real King is on the battlefield dressed as a normal knight, but all the arrows are all fired in the direction of this guy in the conspicuous armour! It's a crappy job but the Christmas party is pretty good. -
Thank you! Good idea! I posted them last night and, rather stupidly, didn't think of deeplinking them! So I deeplinked this morning as I was heading out the door to work. Thanks, I'm quite pleased with the Supes one too. I'm just dying to print one up and order one of AreaLight's wonderful Superman hairpieces!
-
Fairly self explanatory really. Some of my superhero decals. Superman: Batgirl (based on the Lego Batman video game): The Riddler (in his dapper dark green suit): Nick Fury (as portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson in the Iron Man film): The Incredible Hulk (in classic purple pants): The Incredible Hulk (in more modern/sensible blue pants): Enjoy!

"Come quietly or there will be... trouble."
ED-209 replied to ED-209's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I've always been a fan Robocop too (hence my nickname!), and I was hooked on the old game on Amiga 500 in my youth. And thanks, I certainly appreciate you deeplinking the images! Thanks guys, I'm glad you like him! I had to restrain myself from packing too much detail into the torso designs as I was aiming for that "genuine Lego" aesthetic, so I'm pleased to hear that the level of simplicity strikes the right balance. I'd be happy to trade with you exxtrooper, although I don't know if I'd have anything you'd want! PM me with some ideas of things you're looking for if you'd like.
