  1. Just to be clear, I do not think that they will make anything that looks like the old sets at all. They will include new builds that are just a nod to those older sets. I think the 90th anniversary set is likely to include a large castle with civilian structures integrated into the castle and a joust. Not much of a stretch, as even without the video many would have guessed this. My list above with prices just goes to show how much everyone can expect out of this set. Since those 4 iconic sets total cost is still lower than the $400 USD price this castle is likely to arrive at.
  2. Well, the speculation train has hit full steam! I am on board and ready to share... I am also willing to wager that this is NOT the castle we will be seeing released in August. Nice breakdown Eldiano, I also think things in this video are included on purpose. I just disagree with your conclusion. It is very obvious that this is a teaser video. Remember everyone, when this video was being made, TLG did not know that the identity of the 90th anniversary set was going to be leaked already. So, this was meant to be a teaser/semi-reveal of the upcoming 90th anniversary set. Not a reveal of the model itself. They will save that reveal for new hype this summer! What they included in this video was not just by chance. We know that now because of the unintended "Lion King's Castle" leak. Therefore, I think there is a good chance that the inclusion of specific sets might indicate that there will be a nod to those sets in the 90th anniversary set. Yes, the castle will be grand, bigger and more detailed than any other in the past. But, I now think it could be more than just a castle. -Breaking down the promo video... The 3 in 1 (31120) and Blacksmith (21325) were included in teaser because they are newest models and still on shelves to help sales. obvious plug by TLG... -6080 was OBVIOUSLY included in video since the anniversary set will be with crusader/lion faction and a nod to 6080. Remember we were not supposed to know this before this video came out!!! This was supposed to be a hint to us fans! The leak earlier in the month has people thinking about this wrong. This video was meant to hint that the upcoming set is a nod to 6080. Why then include the other past sets? It could be random. But, I think the 90th anniversary set will very well include a civilian building like the MMV (10193), which is even likely to be integrated into the castle. I also think it may include a farm building like the MVR (7189), and a jousting tournament like (10223). At about $400 USD it could include all of this easily and still have the best castle ever. I also think it will include a trebuchet somewhat like the one they used to launch the Delorean. Last, but not least as far as coincidences go, take a look at all of the sets that were included with the lion knight line on Brickset. https://brickset.com/sets/theme-Castle/subtheme-Lion-Knights There is the King's castle (6080), the guarded inn 6067, armor and blacksmith shop 6040 & 6041, and knights challenge 6060, So there is a castle... and modular civilian buildings that can be combined with the castle... and also a jousting tournament in both the video and in the original Lion Knight Castle line. Inclusion of all of them in a grand homage to the old castle line with modularity sure makes sense to me. After all, if you take a $100 castle, and $100 MMV, and a $120 joust, and a $70 MVR you come to $390 which is just about the cost of this new set. At $400 it could have it all and with new techniques be beautiful. I think it will be. A final note: I think the voting for the anniversary set was just to make this look democratic. I think TLG always intended to release a castle for the 90th anniversary set. I think they pretty much knew the way the voting would go as well. People are literally starved for castle and they know it very well. The "Lion King's Castle" release will also push even more sales of the blacksmith set and the 3 in 1 castle. I do not find it a coincidence that those sets are on the shelves at the same time as this release! Especially after years of no castle offerings on the shelves at all. TLG doesn't do things at random. They are a multi-billion dollar company that plans things well in advance.
  3. The vine will be useful for sure. Any new plant part or color is a boon for just about all themes! I feel that the number of plant parts is finally fleshed out pretty well where I can MOC a substantial number of plants, flowers, and crops.
  4. Congrats! An absolutely fantastic build. Very good representation of the Falcons castle of old. The texture, color and all aesthetics are stellar. My only nitpick would be the windows in the bottom section that would seem to allow attackers to easily breach the defenses!!! But that could add playability, so it is all good. Great work!
  5. It is a variety of figs and heraldry that I am hoping for. However, civilians go to the head of the class. Not Kings and Queens, but... we will get those too. I want regular civilians because you need them in multiples to populate castle MOCs more than anything. Just having soldiers and nobles populate a medieval city doesn't look good at all. Any new animal mold(s) or new color(s) would be excellent. Another opportunity to include the sheep? Lucky for me I already have a lot of goats, but I will not deny the demand for them in the community! A new color of goat would be awesome! I would love a bird that is not a chicken too. A pheasant, or just a small bird to put into trees? I have no doubt the castle will be beautiful and the parts will be very useful to castle fans. However, it is the little castley bits, prints, flags, barding, torsos, and minifig accessories that I can't MOC that I truly desire. I will be buying in multiples. And then buying whatever I can on bits-n-pieces because I have a kingdom to populate! The hype is real!!! A link to another article about this set. https://brickshow.com/2022/03-12/
  6. I am totally jazzed for the castle set. Thank you for sharing the news!!! I am most looking forward to the figs, heraldry, barding, animals, etc. Maybe we will get some new weapons/armor? Either way, it is the unique castley bits I can't MOC myself that I want. And please, please, please give us a civilian minifig or two! I am sure the build will be beautiful, and the bricks will be useful. I always wondered what a huge official LEGO castle would look like? The hype is real! I hope if it is successful enough that it will inspire a return to regular castle releases. I know I will buy my fair share of this set! https://brickshow.com/2022/03-12/ Here is a link to another article about the Castle set.
  7. Great work and color scheme! I love the MOC!
  8. I do think 2013 castle was uninspired. Especially when you compare it to Kingdoms and the Fantasy era lines. IMHO, I think TLG purposefully juniorized the 2013 line specifically because it was sharing shelves with a more mature LOTR/Hobbit line of sets. Which did not endear it to young children as they are not the target castle group. And it was less attractive to older kid/adults who like castle. The worst part is that TLG took the wrong lesson from those years and stopped castle altogether instead of admitting to their own design/marketing failure. That said, I think we will get a castle theme sooner or later. As I am sure we all feel... sooner would be better. @zoth33 I too have succumbed to the temptation of the bad guys from Ninjago. In fact, I got nutty a couple of months ago and purchased a ton (3500+) of Ninjago, Nexo Knight, and even Chima bad guys. I got good sized armies of anything that could be fantasy or from the medieval period... The only figs I avoided were the ones that had modern (electronic/machine) designs on the figs. From Ninjago, I got all of the different Snakes, Snake worshippers, Samurai (from hands of time), Blizzard army, Hunted, Stone army, Ghosts, Skeletons, even the islander, and aquatic baddies. I got large armies of the Nexo Knight Lava monsters, and Rock monsters. The nexo knight baddies are so unique. I love them. From Chima I got some of all animal types, but a lot of the bad factions... Crocs, Wolves, Sabre tooth tribe. The spider guys from Chima are just incredible looking and my absolute favorite!!! but there are not a lot of them available. They all make for some awesome armies of generic (not licensed) fantasy type soldiers. I kind of always wanted them, and am glad I took the plunge since it is now getting hard to find them in large numbers.
  9. @Roebuck, indeed I have purchased a lot of animals this year. Bahhh... I think they are great and long overdue, but wish they were a little easier to get in bulk. @MAB, let me get this straight... Elves is similar to castle because the rainbow buildings were castley... LOTR and the Hobbit sets which had way more castle type of builds aren't castle... AND, kids don't care about minifigs vs minidolls... We will have to disagree on this. If I had to choose between no castle and a rainbow flavored minidoll line like Elves. I'd go with no castle, which is exactly what I did. Part selection (mostly due to color) in Elves was terrible IMHO. The few useful pieces I just got off of bricklink for a tiny fraction of the cost for the sets. We did see LOTR, Hobbit, and castle coexist in 2013. Guess what else happened that year? The castle theme went POOF, going on 9 years now. The licensed themes devoured demand from what was IMHO, a lackluster castle offering. Why? Because the LOTR and the Hobbit sets were WAY better castle sets than the 2013 castle line was. When 2013 castle came out "Helm's Deep, Uruk-Hai Army, and Mines of Moria" were still on the shelves. 2013 castle didn't stand a chance. Then, when castle sales dipped, TLG decided that castle was no longer an evergreen theme and here we are begging for scraps on this thread. For the record, I bought a lot of 2013 castle, LOTR, and Hobbit sets. I guess we agree on one thing. Even though I don't want a licensed theme, I would rather see a licensed castle theme than no theme at all. Which is why I said that I would regrettably buy the sets. @Poco Lypso, yes they may have some great civilian torsos in a licensed theme. But like in the Hobbit sets most of the torsos have flesh colored areas which ruins it a bit for me. I have way too much invested in classic yellow figs to switch over at this point. And now I shall wait... Sadly, I think it will be quite a bit before we get anything... I hope for everyone's sake, I am wrong.
  10. I read this from three pages back... Whew... I feel like I dodged a bullet there. And yet, it seemed to make so little sense to me? Why offer castle and knights as minidolls? If anything, I think that the historic themes have a larger percentage of AFOLs vs child fans than most themes outside of Star Wars. AFOLs are mostly married to minifigs, by tradition, and since many have decent sized collections of them. Even though a minidoll knight theme might appeal to some (your opinions and wants are valid), I don't think a theme like this would capture young boys, or girls, or TFOLs, or AFOLs. I think it would have been an epic failure for TLG. The repercussions of which would have echoed in the castle community for a long time to come. As it is now (as specified in interviews), we are likely only getting a set or two every 3 years with Ideas or Creator sets. Sadly, I will wait here for a castle ideas/creator set in 2024 or for TLG to come to its senses and give us a real Castle theme again. I am not one of those who wants a licensed castle theme. Even though I would buy it. I don't want fleshies or factions that are from any licensed story. I would prefer some generic factions and hopefully some fantasy elements to help it to sell with the kids. Hard to believe the Crownie's brought me out of my dark age 15 years ago now. AND yet, I have not had any castle sets to buy for 8+ years. The fantasy era and Kingdoms were just fantastic themes. I am hoping for a return of them some day. Since I re-engaged with LEGO, there have now been more years with no Castle than with it... I wonder if I am going to slip into another dark age? In the meantime, my savings account swells waiting for the day...
  11. I was browsing around Bricklink looking at minis and I went to look at how much peasant figs are going for. I was thinking about adding some because my display is getting bigger and ... OMG! Any store that has 5 or more are going for 20+ US dollars each. I don't think I will be adding more at these type of prices. I have to admit, I already have a LOT of civilian figs. I am glad I bought hundreds of them in bulk back when they were $5 and less per fig. Not having castle for such a long time is really driving prices up.
  12. Yes those dragons on the shields and flags are terrific. Definitely my favorite from the old school castle guys. From the 2000's on, I do have a soft spot for the heraldry on the two kingdoms factions. They both have a much more detailed sigil that match each other well in their aesthetic. I think they appeal to adults more and the checkered color pattern just does it for me. I was saddened in 2012 with the heraldry from the last castle theme. I thought it was a step backwards, but I guess they were trying to appeal to a younger group since Hobbit sets were out at the same time.
  13. Love the photos everyone. I may have to get motivated and share my latest acquisitions. I just purchased about a thousand "bad guy" fantasy figs from ninjago, nexo knights, and chima... It is amazing how I dislike the protagonists from those themes... but the antagonists were pretty darn cool! @ zoth33 If you are talking about the scale armor on the dragon knights, I agree. It has always been one of my favorites. It is a good generic armor type without heraldry so you can be flexible about which army you add them to.
  14. Yes, we need 12th century city sets. Sadly, we aren't going to get them. As for the ideas sets results. If you built a castle themed ideas set this year, as beautiful as they are, you were simply wasting your time. Perhaps next year or more likely the year after TLG might consider another castle ideas set. They are going to rotate through the history themes from year to year no matter how good the sets are and how many people vote for them. After doing two Brickworld shows this month, I can say with absolute certainty that kids and adults are frustrated as hell that there are no castle sets. I have been displaying Goldcrest for about 13 years now. The feedback I am getting from patrons has shifted greatly after the 2 year hiatus created by the pandemic. Since my display is such a large castle people are seeking answers from me on how to get castle sets/minifigures. I have to sadly inform them that I bought my castle LEGO long ago and that I am also longing for new castle sets. Never in my many years of displaying castle have I got even a small percentage of complaints I am now getting about the lack of historic sets for people to buy. I tell every patron to write to TLG to express their concerns in hopes that there is one intelligent person in the company that might hear them. IMHO TLG has strayed too far from their historical model concerning themes. Many parents want their kids to have a similar experience with LEGO that they had. Sadly those products are being denied to them and I feel that is an opportunity lost. The natives are getting restless... Which is great, because they are coming to the place I have been for a few years now.
  15. Thank you for sharing. Love GoT! That is more dark red in one place than I have ever seen. And therefore, I think it needs more dark red!
  16. I agree. I am not going to get my hopes up. As for the creator expert sets you mention. They sound great, but I would only be happy if those sets came with some new factions, flags, and minifigs. Printed and not stickers...
  17. Wow... The "castle in the forest" crowdfunding achieved and sold out almost instantly on Bricklink! Perhaps TLG will get the hint and notice the true hunger there is for Castle sets. 8 years of pure hunger... I had no chance as the website was malfunctioning during the sale.
  18. I like the helmet with the gold armor and the cape the best. The rest are pretty good. Thanks for sharing!
  19. I have not used bricks and pieces much in the past but am warming up to the service especially for rare parts/colors. My collection is about 1/3 from sets, 1/3 from Pick a Brick, 1/3 from Bricklink and LUGbulk. I definitely like some of the fantasy bad guys from Ninjago, Nexo Knights, etc. The problem I have adding minifigs to my armies is just getting a decent number of figures for new factions. I have castle armies that represent every castle faction ever released by LEGO. The smallest faction I own are the KKII jellybean knights and strangely enough I have about 50 of these guys. The rest of my factions are 100-600 figs strong. So, whenever I add a faction I am looking to get enough figs so they number at least 50ish. Otherwise the factions are so small as to not be noticed among my collection. Getting individual minifigs from superhero sets look cool individually but are barely even noticeable when displayed with my castle collection. This is the minor curse of building big armies. It is harder to add anything that looks good with everything else as a whole. In all honesty, I really do not need brick any more. And yet... I keep buying more. New interesting molds and colors are fine... but I just have a TON of brick because brick is never hard to acquire. I also have more weapons, helmets, armor, than I could ever use for my minifigs. That is because the old castle sets would come with way more weapons than the minifigs could ever use. The limiting factor for me is shields, heraldry/flags, and period appropriate minifigs(torsos), especially civilians. These are the limiting elements because there are not a lot of extra shields or flags/heraldry in castle sets. You can never have enough soldiers if you have large armies. And as everyone knows, civilians have been very rare indeed. Even with large bricklink orders I never have enough civilians to balance all of the military figs I have. Torsos, shields, flags are what I am short on. I also would prefer new heraldry and castle minifigs. The new black falcons look cool, but they are way too similar to the old ones to make them an entire new faction. They will just be elite units/subfaction in the old black falcon army. Because I already own a ton of the old BFs, and all of the old castle factions, I get less excited for the new reworked castle factions. So... this explains why I crave a new castle theme. Because it might provide me with more of the parts that I actually need and added variety of factions to add to my world. Castle sets from "Ideas and 3in1" will offer very few of the very parts I need the most. I will likely get one HP chess set for the accessories. Black is OK, but white weapons/helms are not ideal for my use either... although I have never tried white on my figs before? Someone post some pics of the white armor and weapons on normal castle figs? I would be grateful. I am open minded to trying it if it looks good...
  20. I collect and build LEGO castles. It is the theme and the time period that interests me. And this is what I spend most of my LEGO money on. For the last 8 years my spending on LEGO has been way down. An actual castle theme gives me a lot of the minifigs, weapons, tools, heraldry, animals, etc. that inhabit my medieval MOCs. How useful the current sets are for castle MOCing is largely determined by the AFOL and also the size/composition of their collection. If you don't have a lot of LEGO, and specifically old castle sets, these "new" castle offerings can be invaluable if you want to build castle MOCs. To someone who owns multiples of almost every castle set ever offered these sets will seem lacking in comparison. I truly appreciate this years offerings. They are both very nice sets. However, as I have said previously on this thread these sets do not offer enough specific parts that help in building medieval MOCs. The minifigs in particular are not varied enough. Making an army of the Black Falcons requires a bits and pieces purchase because there are no small sets to buy at all. Also two expensive sets with few "castley" parts cannot make up of 8 years of no castle sets at all. And yet, it looks like we are in for a long wait going forward. I suppose the hardest part for us old collectors is that we just came to expect a castle theme to be available. I've been collecting castle since 1984, so I am pretty invested at this point and I doubt I am going to switch over to a new theme. Except for the brief respite in the early 2000's when TLG was on the brink of failure, there have always been castle sets for me to buy and add to my collection. It never occurred to me that castle could go away forever. Even an 8 year hiatus seemed impossible to me. TLG announced castle as an "Evergreen" theme just a few years ago when they were asked about the recent lack of castle sets. I have to admit that the article https://www.brickfanatics.com/lego-designer-says-creator-3-in-1-is-the-new-home-of-retro-themes/ from a few months ago really took my by surprise and I felt devastated by it, which I am sure came through in my past posts. Up until that article came out, I thought a new castle wave was imminent. And if you read through the comments on this thread, I think the majority of us thought something castle was going to be coming soon. This was especially true when the Nexo Knights theme stopped. I just hope TLG changes their minds and starts taking my money again. At this point, I refuse to get my hopes too high. If the "castle theme" is going to reside in ideas and creator, I would only expect sets every 3 or so years with few dedicated parts for castle builders. While this may be good for some people it will never satisfy and old collector like me. @ LEGO David, I do not display any of my sets, except for the holiday collection for one month of the year. Now approaching 1.5 million parts, 6000 castle figs, and a ginormous display for public shows, I literally had to take apart all of my sets so the LEGO doesn't take over the entire house. I'm lucky my S.O. lets me spread out as much as I do already.
  21. I does look a bit like a gypsy wagon. AFOL day at the LEGO store this weekend in the USA. I suppose I will get a couple more blacksmith sets because I have nothing else to buy until August.
  22. Hoping to see this at Brickworld Chicago 2022. Great job!
  23. Well... It looks like the LEGO store employee that told me August a couple of months ago is a good source of information. I have waited 8 years for 2021's offerings. I can wait a little longer. I just hope these sets sell so well that TLG changes their mind and considers a full castle theme again. Fingers crossed. Anyone want to make a prediction of how many pages this thread will be by the time we get a full castle theme released again? Put me down for 167 pages... My prediction takes all of the pre-release hype discussion into account...
  24. I do not attach the baseplates to the plywood at all actually. This is great because I can change them out or reuse them. This is why the baseplates are so beneficial. When they move small amounts on the wood they do not catch and separate like plates/bricks do. I have special racks built in a moving truck specifically for moving my display. Yes, I own a moving truck solely for moving my LEGO around. Some people might call me crazy. The racks have L shaped sides that keep the baseplates from moving off to the left and right. Forward to back the sections of the display butt up against one another so there is nowhere for them to go. To be honest gluing the baseplates to the plywood would not help with stability at all. In the case of an accident or a sudden stop the large structures would just separate from the plates or baseplates anyway and go flying. I just hope I never get into an accident when moving my LEGO and I drive very carefully. I also know I will have plenty of baseplates for myself when TLG stops selling them. However, I am not just thinking of myself. I fear future fans will be losing an essential part that can be vital for making large displays more stable. Eventually baseplates will become really hard to obtain.
  25. Unfortunately, the news from over a month ago that classic themes were only going to get the occasional nod in creator and ideas, instead of getting themes of their own means... we are not going to get battle packs, rarely to get horses, other animals, or many new medieval prints/molds at all. Hence the pirate torso and a skeleton in the 3in1. Needless to say, if you are trying to build a castle faction with these sets you are in for some serious hurt. We got two "castley" sets for a combined $250. While I do like the designs, we got 4 soldiers, one horse, one good civilian, one okay civilian, a skeleton, AND... a pirate. By comparison, in 2007 you could buy the entire castle line for $325 with 43 castle minifigs, 5 horses, 5 skele horses, 2 dragons, a large troll, and all of the armor, shields, weapons, and heraldry to arm and dress up all of those figs. Not to mention a castle, a skeleton fortress, a dwarf mine, a large ship, plus a host of the smaller sets. When you put the two years releases side by side, and read the fan reactions, it really shows how desperate we history fans have become. I understand what we all want. After 8 years of waiting I feel castle fans deserve more. All I can say is buy up what castle you can get, keep voting for castle, and keep contacting TLG with your concerns/desires. 2021 offered me something, and I am thankful for that. However, I am far from satisfied. I also refuse to lower the bar so far that this years effort is what is considered acceptable for castle collectors.
