  1. At first I had the roof plates set at an elevation where the bottom technic piece would be hitting right at the top edge of the cornice. Once the bottom was secure, each would then in turn hold the one above it. I then noticed in looking at pics of temples, that some had decorative elements on top of the cornice in front of each round tile. This worked much better and looked nice as well. I used the "tooth" piece pointing up. I will try to get some better pictures up in the next few days. Thank you for the kind comments.
  2. Yes, it's great for temples which have very simple roofs. I do not think it woul translate well to roofs with hips or valleys so villas or houses would be a challenge.
  3. http://farm3.staticf...df82943b_m.jpg Sorry still learning how to post pics. Hopefully the link works. The tiles are created using 1x2 tiles and round technic connectors. I have a series of 4x plates that are overlapped two studs to make a shallow series of stairs. This creates the difference in elevation for the different courses of tiles. The 1x2 tiles are furred up with 1x2 plates so that they hit the technic connectors about halfway up. I realize full well that if this link does not work, this description makes no sense whatsoever. In the building I have used black 1x2 plates as it creates a nice shadow line, that and I didnt want to buy a few hundred dark red plates.
  4. Been trying to figure out a way to replicate terra cotta roof tiles. Here's the results so far. Sorry for crap pics, my wife is out of town with the decent camera. She took the knowledge of how to orient pictures correctly with her too.
  5. Best of luck with the project. It looks like you have real passion for the subjevt matter. I would so love to see a Roman Lego theme. They should put Russel Crowe on a strict exercise regime and make the gladiator prequel and do a tie in. Too gory for TLG but I can dream. ps, next time you are doing and underwater dig in Egypt, I would pay big bucks for a cannon ball from the Battle of the Nile!
  6. Yes, you are correct and everyone else who suggests your project is too big are wrong. So silly of us... I'm not trying to flame you but I think if you really want to try and get something to 10,000 votes you need to scale it back and focus on quality and playability, not volume.
  7. The kraken and Pegasus are great. I would love to see a ancient civilization theme, but as a cuusso project I think it is overly ambitious. The designs are great as mocs, but there are too many and they are too large. Check out http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/9068 for another great roman cuusso project. Not my project but I really like it.
  8. That is awesome. Now make it move back and forth seeking the ring, lol.
  9. Phew thanks! I have been playing with lego for 40+ years and this is my first technic set. I am blown away by the complexity and engineering that goes into these sets. My appreciation of technic mocs has skyrocketed.
  10. I'm sure the answer is in the 57 page thread below, but was hoping someone could save me some time. Are the Unimog's wheels motorized? I just finished installing the motor and if the motor is supposed to turn the wheels I must have screwed something up in the transmission. Thanks
  11. Super job, we need more ship MOCs around. The only thing I'd do different is that it appears to be flush-decked, whereas a frigate of the 24 gun class would have at least had a quarterdeck and fo'c'sle, if not a poop deck as well. Altogether though it's a great MOC! Edited by cortman, 11 March 2013 - 10:43 PM. Correct me if I'm wrong but usually a frigate of this size would have gangways connecting the quarter deck and forecastle. When the ships boats are tied down to the ribs that run across the waist it gives the appearance of being flush decked.
  12. Fantastic build!
  13. Very nice work. I particularly like the tile floor. I think it is very nice how you made this moc feel very heterogenous. With all of the different materials of r the different sections it gives the feel that it was built/rebuilt, added on to over the years.
  14. Agree, the structure on the right is the highlight. Really captured the feel of the movie architecture. Great use of pieces.
  15. Has to be Cavetroll birthday party. My kids watched this one aout 15 times back to back. I enjoy them all though.
  16. Was wondering this too. Will Lego store preorder cases for you?
  17. Usually they only keep replacement parts for current sets handy, but you never know.
  18. Very nice! What website is the contest through? I havent seen it.
  19. Well said. Finished my third trip through the POB canon a few months ago.
  20. This is one of those builds that looks like a TLG set, but better. So creative and brilliant execution. Love the background inside.
  21. Attacking uphill in the snow, the Romans would never go for that! JK nice battle scene. This is just off the top of my head but didn't the XIII get there Gemina distinction in the first century AD?
  22. +1 Adreva 11. Nice fast overseas transaction.
  23. I am blown away by these sails. Incredible.
  24. Anything still for sale/trade?
  25. Nice job. I like the dynamic pose of the eagle. Very realistic position.
