  1. "You've been incredibly intrusive." Zaria scoffed. "Reading other people's minds without their consent... you should be thankful I don't have half a mind to spill a perfectly good cup of coffee on you."
  2. "Well, suit yourself. If you are ever interested in hearing more about Varuth, I would be more than willing to speak to you about his teachings." Zaria replies with a smile.
  3. I believe it's in the Library thread.
  4. "I feel like at this point we all agree on the outcome, but not the method in which we get there." Zaria shrugs. "Which is fine by me." Zaria shakes her head smiling, putting her hand to her forehead ashamedly. "I suppose giving you a full name would be good, would you not agree? My name is Zaria Karana, it is a pleasure to meet you, Soren." Zaria was astounded at the lack of knowledge of the Pantheon in the hall. "No, he is not an elven deity, but rather a member of the Pantheon, which was established by the Republic many, many years ago. He's seemingly been with us since before we could even travel the stars, guiding us down the road and whispering us towards enlightenment. Varuth, the Hotelier, the Hospitable, the Wanderer, is a deity of travel, wisdom, and hospitality. When on the road you pray to him that you might arrive at your destination safely, and when you are at your destination you pray that your next journey will bring further understanding and enlightenment. You bless the inn owner, the bartender, and even the owner of the stable when you're simply looking for a place to stay the night. The galaxy is a big place, and Varuth teaches you that through travelling it and being a part of it do we find understanding in others and ourselves." Zaria finishes, taking a drink of coffee. "I could continue on, but only if you are interested. There are many deities within the Pantheon, but Varuth is the deity whom I worship and whose teachings I espouse when the need arises."
  5. "Heh, you're here to roleplay and get enjoy a light combat system? Pathetic. The real Heroica players stay in the hall thread and argue about philosophy and politics while staying in character."
  6. "Perhaps, but my faith in Varuth helps guide my sense of control over this universe. It does not take much to ask for his guidance and open one's heart to the voice of the open road. Whether you decide to listen to his wisdom, well, I suppose that is up to oneself to do." Zaria replies. "Heavens, where are my manners: my name is Zaria, by the way. Yourself? I do not think I've caught it." Zaria notices the new face walk in, turning briefly to look them over before returning her attention to the man before her.
  7. "I am going to forget what I heard about myself "lacking control" under the pretense that it is likely you are inebriated." Zaria comments nonchalantly, not making eye contact with Soren and taking a drink from her coffee. "Well, I hope Varuth keeps you safe in your travels to come. You seemingly had his blessing when you scrapped that robot."
  8. Current Sign Ups for Mission #3: Rat Catchers: -Enson (Duvors) -Valesia (Waterbrick Down) --- "Well, I suppose I've got the time to figure out how I'm going to see that." Zaria laughed.
  9. Zaria wasn't sure if Yelana was being sarcastic or not, but continued to speak to her. "Well, perhaps you would like to enlighten us on your past experiences?" Zaria suggested. "If you are going to ask questions you should expect to get some directed towards you sooner than later, Yelana." Zaria proceeded to enjoy her cup of coffee. She wasn't sure where the coffee came from, it most certainly wasn't the type of blend or roast she was used to, but it would do.
  10. I think they're different enough once you get past the "everyone's cool mom" aspect. It's pretty clear Zaria and Valesia have had pretty different experiences growing up.
  11. Boomers would be waving as well. I suppose Karie and Dyric did come to amends by the end, though.
  12. I mean, fair. There were few people in the Hall I think Karie had an issue with, and she was very easy to get along with, even if she was very argumentative. With Zaria, I'm hoping to explore some new ground. Part of me wanted to come in with another showboat PC, another entertainer turned hero, but I wanted something else this time around. Originally I considered Zaria being chimeran so she'd be a literal "mama bear", but I didn't have the parts, and I'm hoping to eventually recreate Zaria once I can get my Lego collection back, as WBD built her current figure.
  13. Out of curiosity, what does that make Karie in terms of "everyone's cool X"?
  14. I based Zaria's character concept around the concept of "everyone's cool mom", but I'm also totally cool if Valesia and Zaria are "everyone's cool aunts".
  15. "Well, let's hope next time you have allies backing you up." Zaria commented. "There is a distinction between being brave and being lucky." Zaria shakes her head at Thorvald. "I'm quite good, thank you. I prefer my coffee black." She nods thankfully, indulging in her drink before responding to Valesia. "It was not uncommon for priests and travellers to leave behind a little something to the abbey, whether it be a book or a recipe or a bauble from their travels. The abbey became a repository for knowledge, although by no means were we a grand, or ornate temple, not by any means. Still, it was home for a long time, no, it still is, really. Eventually, though, wanderlust settles in, and then, well... the only cure for that is to get up and go." Zaria took a long drink from her coffee before continuing, smiling at the thought of travel. "I hope to one day to see the groves of the Cladrasith. I mean, I hope to one day see a lot of this galaxy, but perhaps my impatience is getting the better of me."
  16. "Well, Varuth is on of the many gods that is part of the Pantheon put into effect by the Krassar Republic many, many years ago. Varuth's doctrine revolves around travelling and being hospitable to those who you meet. He's a god for wayward wanderers, such as myself. There's so much to see in this big, bright, beautiful sphere, and Varuth is very much about seeing as much of it as one can. Growing up in the abbey I'd often listen to other priests talk about where they'd been and what they'd seen in their travels. Growing up in an abbey dedicated to Varuth meant that when a priest was not travelling, they were preparing the place for the faithful to stay, or even just wayward guests. Often I would cook meals, tend to the abbey's gardens, ensure our guest chambers were clean, just to name a few things I did. Of course, priests would still meditate and read up on scripture or various places in the galaxy: I swear half the library was filled with travel guides and maps. Sometimes you need to relax from the journey, and Varuth understands: we take the journey at our own pace. As much as the destination is important, Varuth has a lot to say about how one should act getting there." Zaria motions to the bartender. "All this talking has made me thirsty. Bartender, you wouldn't happen to have any coffee? If so, please pour me a cup, I'd greatly appreciate it."
  17. Zaria finally grabbed a seat at the bar. "Well, I did a number of odd jobs before my travels brought me here. I grew up among the priesthood of Varuth in an abbey which overlooked a town. I was taught how to channel magic through the invocation of his name, and it is also where I began training with a sword." Zaria shifted her armour around from her neck and pulled up a necklace with a worn compass made of warmmetal dangling from it; her holy symbol. She let's it dangle around her chest as she continued to speak. "When you get to my age you do not just stick to one profession: I served in Kharza' Fal's citizen militia, I took time in meditation at the abbey, I spent several decades on the open road exploring Kharza' Fal; I've had a severe case of too much time and too great a sense of wanderlust." Zaria laughed. "I heard about this place through the grape vine and thought that Varuth might be showing me where to go next on my journey. Doesn't hurt we're staying in an old hotel. You ask me, it is a sign of the warmth and hospitality to come." "No, I was just preparing for a potential tussle." Zaria comments on the subject of her being skittish. Part of her felt a little offended at her readiness being compared to being skittish. "I feel like if worse came to be, you would want us all in a fight with whatever you were fighting. Well, it seems like you trounced that cyborg quite handily." Zaria looks over to the entrance hall. "Commendable work, honestly." "I crashed a anti grav-bike when I was younger. ...I think that's about all I can add to the topic of flight, really. Sorry."
  18. Zaria grabs a banana taffy, unwrapping it an begins to chew. "Mmm. This is quite sweet. Good, though." Zaria looked over at the body on the floor and shrugged, responding to Valesia, "No, I can't say that anything immediately jumps to mind." She motions at the newly arrived chimeran. "Any idea on what was trying to turn you into paste, ma'am?"
  19. "My name is Zaria, it is a pleasure to meet you, Valesia, and yes, I would be more than a little interested in brinewater taffy." Zaria shakes Valesia's hand.
  20. Zaria turns her attention to the newly arrived Cladrasith, her interest piqued, only to be jostled by the commotion in the front hall. As the chimeran with the walking stick approached from the front entrance, Zaria moved over to the tables and grabbed her sword, just in case. "Or just someone who frequents the gun show enough." Zaria comments, stretching her arms and rotating her shoulder blades, almost out of instinct. "Not that I am the person for the job, mind you. I like staying in inns and hotels, but I could not stay cooped up in one. I have to travel. The road calls."
  21. I was waiting for someone to destroy the front doors of the hall, as is tradition.
  22. Zaria took a moment to turn her attention to the mission board. Eyeing her option, she put her name down for Mission 1 and Mission 2, despite having little experience in stealth or in aetherdiving. Still, experiences were experiences, and she was intrigued at the possibilities of either. She'd never really took much interest in aetherdiving and was curious what the aetherspace looked like.
  23. We could still say the overall concept of the quest was the same, sans a few contradictory elements. Let's build characters who don't accidentally wind up being incredibly distance relatives this time, okay?
  24. Zaria shook her head. "Not where I am from. While I imagine if you were to refer to the region as the Rumi Star Cluster everyone in Kharza' Fal would recognize what you meant, everyone refers to it as the West Marches." Zaria responds. "And you do not know if I came from Kharza' Fal or not. I might have bought this armour in a market not knowing where it came from." "Ah, I see." Zaria stated, watching the man stand up on his own. She knew with the way she exercised, she could probably pull him up with one hand, but if he did not want help, so be it. Besides, she was too busy thinking on the concept of a "fixer". Lawyers were something she had heard of, but had honestly never met. "I will be frank, this is my first time getting involved in this kind of work. I spent my childhood growing up in an abbey where the monks dedicated their lives to the worship of Varuth, the God of travel. It was peaceful, but certainly not dull. We had a number of eccentric individuals grace the walls of the abbey during their own travels. Some stayed a few days, others stayed for years." Zaria smiled fondly in nostalgia, remembering the small orchard within the walls of the abbey and sweetness of the fruit that grew within on warm summer days, planted long before her birth.
  25. Zaria stood up from her table and walked towards the bar, shaking Yelana's hand firmly. "I'm Zaria Karana. A pleasure to meet you, Yelana." She continued to stand while speaking to her new acquaintance. "I'm curious, are you new here as well? I just arrived and I heard a lot about this place, even as far away as the West Marches. It took most of my savings to come here, but the road called, and I usually answer when it does." Zaria wasn't sure whether or not to respond to the question, seeing as how she just arrived herself and couldn't really comment, but she did take a moment to observe whether or not the hall was loud or not. It didn't seem loud to her, but then again she was more used to the noise of open air markets and the revelry involved in solstice celebrations.
