Heroica: Glory Amongst the Stars Mission #3: Rat Catchers
Kintobor replied to Kintobor's topic in Heroica! The RPG!
"Well, I do like to think I put enough effort into the place to keep it operational." Rachel scratches the back of her head. "However, this place is old, and was left to collect dust. There's a lot that needs repairs, so it should keep me busy enough." At the mention of rats, she visibly bites her tongue. "It's a bit complicated... why don't we step inside and I'll explain what's going on, yeah?" Rachel steps inside her office and makes room for the PCs. The office space is a mess: leftover takeout piles on top of a table, and sawdust lines the floor. The cluttered space has led to things being tied to the roof, as a large device dangles nearby the lantern. A soft droning noise echoes through the room. Rachel grabs some of the leftovers and dumps it into a garbage bin, it too overflowing. "Sorry about the mess, it's uh... getting out of control. So, here's what's going on. As you can clearly tell, the hall has a garbage disposal issue. Like, a big one. The garbage chute is clogged with a mass of garbage, and because of this, we cannot properly dispose of the garbage around here. This is an issue on top of the fact that we're also in the midst of renovating parts of the former hotel into a space more adequate to a guild of our nature. To top it all off, I'm pretty certain we have a rodent issue. They're coming up from the garbage chute, and out into the basement, so unclogging it is your first priority. Then, you'll need to descend into the garbage chute and take out whatever is nesting down there. It's a nasty bit of work, but someone's got to do it. Once you've done all that, I can begin grabbing the junk and properly disposing of it instead of it just lying around. I'll be taking you down to the basement storage facility so you can get started, but do you have any questions before I lead you down there?" -

Rachel removes one of her work gloves and snatches a piece of candy from Valesia. She pats herself down, finding a clean piece of wax paper and begins to wrap up the sweet. "A little something something for later." Rachel grins to herself before replying. "Well, there is a bit of a problem involving rodents. It incidentally also has to do with the garbage chute. It's a little complicated to describe, honestly. Part of me was a bit hesitant to go to deep into the details in case someone saw the notice that isn't from our guild, so I described the situation to the best of my ability." "Oh, hey Enson." Rachel notices the stool. "Huh, well, it does look like one of the stools we were looking to get replaced anyways. Man, the amount of money going into this place is insane..." Rachel points behind Enson, towards the garbage heap. "Feel free to just toss it into the pile for now, I guess." -
"Then you misunderstand me." Zaria replied, pointing to herself. "How can they trace a theft back to anyone if we just make our way off the train as if nothing ever happened? If they have no evidence of a theft, then what can they do? Make a baseless claim that it was stolen?" Zaria took in a deep breath and sighed. "Right, looks like I'm in charge." Leadership was not something Zaria was used to, but she figured it wouldn't be too hard. "If neither of you two have any more questions, I think we have enough information to proceed." She turns to the hologram. "We will get you what you are looking for, Leopold, in one form or another."

Heroica: Glory Amongst the Stars Mission #3: Rat Catchers

As the heroes began introducing each other, the door to the maintenance office swung open as a human woman, seemingly in her early twenties, stood in the door frame as she removed her googles and put her glasses on. Dust covered her from head to toe as she smiled at the party. "You must be the folks I hired. So, uh, hi, my name's Rachel Sprocketson. Oh, uh, and for some of you, welcome to Heroica! ...is that peanut brittle?" She pointed Valesia's cooking. -
Zaria shook her head "You have little faith in yourself and your allies." She opened up her reusable water bottle and drunk from it. "If you are so concerned about this being traced back to Oc Tan, then we will simply need to be discreet about this and get off the train at Con'Stop like everyone else, without anyone the wiser to our reason for being on the train." She shrugs. "Or are you not up for a challenge, Yelana?" She states, almost sounding board.

~This mission is for chosen heroes only. If you'd like to join Heroica: Glory Amongst the Star, please refer to the Heroica: GAtS Rules and FAQ thread.~ ----- The heroes made their way around Heroica Hall, through the old, overgrown gardens and green space, towards the back entrance of the Maintenance Office. A large pile of junk lays sprawled out on the overgrown lawn, covered in cobwebs and dust. Old chairs, beds, pipes, insulation, and other old and worn furniture and interior hardware, from insulation to boards heaps precariously in the pile. From inside the maintenance office, the heroes can hear the smashing of metal and the roar of a saw blade, noises seemingly muted by the expanse of the former hotel-turned-mercenary guild's interior. From where they are, they could peer inside and see a figure working away at a bench. "Alright, Enson, pink and bubbly, and the chef, just got word from Rachel. You're to meet her at the outside entrance to her office around the back of the hall whenever you're ready. She says to take your time getting ready." Chosen Heroes for Mission #3: Rat Catchers -Enson (Duvors) -Valesia (Waterbrick Down) -Aysu (Peppermint_M) Mission Master Note: Please complete any business in the Hall, Library, or Trade Bazaar in the next 24hrs. Mission will be posted at that time. -
Zaria confusedly looks towards the hologram. "Leopold, I can assume? We were told to come here. Are we just... going straight to the train then? If we are immediately heading out, that is fine, I thought maybe we would be briefed or given some more information. Where are we boarding the train?" Zaria asked. She'd never dealt directly with Oc Tan before, or any large corporate conglomerate for that matter, but she was aware of the company's existence.

Zaria made her way into the bowels of Ebria Station. Although the atmosphere was less inviting than the upper levels, it was a new locale, and Zaria was intrigued by the areas... unique charm. Making her way into the board room, Zaria takes a seat and looks around, focusing on the projection of her employer once the image comes through. "Well, I am ready." Zaria replies to her employer. OOC: Purchased a plasma potion, so I'm down 10 gold. Will likely be looking into some healing spells at some point, but no matter. Thanks for having me!

"I do not know if I could honestly relate to a single word you said." Zaria replied, laughing to herself. "Government agents, crime syndicates; definitely not the life I had prior to coming here. Where I come from, lawyers are a foreign concept. Magistrates appointed to villages deal with crimes, along with local militias. There are problems with the system: bribes, scandals, corruption, but it has been like that for centuries." -

Zaria stared at Varen, unsure of what to make of the description of his former routine. "I have so many questions and I do not know where to start. Does every lawyer follow such a routine?" "While you are at it, a glass of water, please? I do not wish to over power my sense of taste." Zaria chimed in. -

"Oh, no no, I find talking about your travels quite interesting!" Zaria replies. "I am genuinely disappointed that I am out of seemingly decent coffee in my cup. I was expecting it to be worse than it is. Coffee culture in Kharza' Fal is very particular, I was expecting not to like it. If I am honest, part of me is a little jealous. As grateful as I am for my travels across my home planet, that is all I have seen. I have not been to a volcano planet or travelled the stars. Part of the reason Heroica sounded so fascinating was the prospect of seeing as much of this galaxy as I can." Zaria smiled. The thought of seeing new planets and places made her excited, almost a little tingly. -

"Well, it is as they say. It is not about the destination, but the journey there." Zaria replies. "Sometimes the road gives us hardship. Sometimes it gives us a lot of hardship, but the road is not adversarial. The road just is. You have to take the good with the bad." Zaria takes a drink of her coffee, finishing it, frowning. "How disappointing. The coffee was pleasant." -

Heroica: Glory Amongst The Stars - Heroica Hall

"Oh, where do I even start?" Zaria thought for a moment before responding. "Well, Kharza' Fal is a planet of extremes. The days are warm, and the night's cold. Although some believe that my home planet is a desert, that is far from the truth. There are blistering deserts from where I am from, but also vast swaths of grassy hills, great and vast snow capped mountain ranges, and lush forests, through all of which great streams spill into the oceans." Zaria motions with her hand, moving it out from her to simulate a rush of water. "I grew up in a small town, one of many that dot the planet, but I have been to all the major spaceports, and as cliche as it sounds, the capitol of the planet, Rovodan Spaceport, is the most beautiful. Gardens and fountains are abundant in the city. The city's architecture was built with these green spaces in mind, and when the flowers are bloom, it is hard to image one being in a busy spaceport." Zaria takes a drink from her coffee, savouring the flavour as much as she was reminiscing in the years she spent seeing her home planet. "It is a wonderful mixture of peace and relaxation when I needed it to be, and adventurous and a bit harrowing when I wanted to test myself." -

Zaria held back a laugh. "Actually, no, I am not from money. I wound up borrowing a friends bike for a game while I was visiting one of the spaceports on Kharza' Fal, which is the planet I have lived on my entire life. It turns out that was a terrible idea, as even on the lowest speed I crashed his bike. Needless to say, I have not played polo since, and I doubt I ever will. As interesting as it was, I was never good at steering. I always preferred walking and football, anyways. Keeps me in shape. I can't see myself getting any real exercise out of hitting a ball around with a club. My name is Zaria, by the way. Yours?" She asked the lawyer. -

"Golf courses? You mean with the small, grooved ball and the club and the man who stands at the hole with the flag?" Zaria asked. "I'll be honest, all I've ever really needed to learn how to play was football. I did try and learn how to play polo once, but... if you recall me talking about wrecking an anti-grav bike... yeah, that's how I did that. Now, if you want a sand experience, I can tell you all about Khazra' Fal's beaches and deserts. I know what some people will say, it's coarse and rough and gets everywhere, but those people do not know how to relax and enjoy the warmth of the sun and the sound of the surf." -

I wouldn't say Zaria is a complete opposite of Karie, but I did try and make sure the two are different characters, same goes for Annienal.
