We don't have all day! The captain will arrive with the commodore by tomorrow morning, and he wants this entrance sealed!" The light from a torch can be seen as a group of men round the corner on the walkway noticing the party. A gruff, bearded man makes his way to the front of the small band of men, his torch illuminating the party. He sneers. "Well, well, look what's sneaking about, sewer rats, in from the cold! And what else have we here? An undead abomination? Typical. State yourselves! Who are you, and why are you here?"- 418 replies

Heroica RPG- Quest #78: As Thick As Thieves

Readying himself, Elgar strikes the rusted hinges. He strikes them again. On the third try, the pickaxe breaks the hinges and the grate falls into the water. The party could now enter the Resigore Prison. Would they be prepared for what potentially lay ahead? There was only one way to find out...- 418 replies

Elgar moves forward and grasps onto the grate, pulling on it with all of his might to no avail. Looking at the grate, the hinges which it swings open on and it's deadbolt lock have been rusted as well. QM Note: Although, I am impressed you tried the most simple solution first.- 418 replies

----- "Here, help me move this crate into the hallway." Karie and Masson pick up the crate full of tools and move it into the hall outside of Masson's lab. The Syndicate banners had been taken down and crates scattered about the space. The cleric sits on on top of a crate, playing solitaire. "Looks like exhausting work, if I do say so." "Yeah, I heard playing cards can be really hard." The cleric shrugs and continues to play as Masson turns to Karie. "Well, at least most of my personal possessions are out of here..." Masson looks back, looking discontent. "Karie, I lost the picture, the one of my aunt, uncle, me and my cousin. I must have gone missing during the move or one of your allies must have taken it." Masson takes a moment before continuing. "Ah well, c'est la vie. We have more things to sort through." "Masson, wait. I... well here." Karie looks through her various items and pulls out the photo. She wasn't used to such physical labor, yet she considered herself quite the sprinter. "I kept it in case the worst happened. I thought if anything, at least someone should remember your story. So here, take it back." Karie returned the photo to Masson. He looked it over wistfully. "Thank you, Karie." He puts it in his robes and rubs his hands, noticing Karie's panting. "Are, uh... you alright? We could take a break?" "Yeah. A break would be nice." -----

And they're gone as quickly as they appeared. Time for the quest to kick into action! I assure, 78's about to go into a whole world of awesome with it's plot. The prison, with the exception of the demolished East wing is accessible to the party, and the mechanics are going to actually try and encourage clever roleplaying. In other words, what characters say and do are going to affect what happens in the prison as if it was one huge environment. It's going to be pretty cool!

Heroica RPG- Quest #78: As Thick As Thieves
Kintobor replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
The walk was longer than expected. At least three hours later, partially through the Eubric Forest, and following a rundown, unused road, the party finally gets a look at their destination, the Resigore Prison. The front entrance sat in the sand, with the East section of the prison looking in shambles, even from a distance. The West end went slightly into the ocean, the waves lapping against the walls. As the sun sets into the sky, the party can see lights flickering within the prison and outside the outer walls, getting closer to a small bank, the party can get close enough to the entrance without being spotted. A horse drawn carriage idly waits in front of the prison as two guards stand watch. As the party watches, the doors swing open as two men walk out, one clad in robes, the other in Hinckwell uniform. The two guards salute as they walk out. The hooded man had a thick accent, while the official looking man had a sense of authority and power in his voice. He looked quite young, most likely in his mid twenties, and despite the aggressiveness in his voice, it had a sense of youth to it. "You know precisely what went wrong! You left a mess! When you claimed to be one of the best men in your profession I expected it! And now apparently you left "a mess"? Intolerable!" "Sir, it was unforeseeable. The alchemist put up much more of a fight than we expected." "You seemed to be doing well without your assistant, Gustav, why is it now that when you have one your abilities become stunted? Are they holding you back? You do know that when people screw up, the commodore gets less than thrilled? I want this mistake wiped clean. You know what to do. Head to the alchemist's house and set it ablaze. Make it look like an accident, and ensure the fire doesn't spread!" "Of course sir." "I'm heading into Eubric to run some errands and to fetch the commodore. I want the alchemist's house burnt to the ground by tonight! As well, inform the men that I want that grated opening by the West end closed, and tell the men to keep an eye on our little experiment. The commodore wants to be present when we reveal our findings, and I want it to go off without a hitch! I will be back by early tomorrow. That house better be burnt Gustav, or else." "Very well sir, do take care." The Hinckwell official turns on his heel and climbs into the carriage. As soon as he's in the driver whips the reigns and the horse quickly make their leaving, heading back down the road. Gustav watches and makes his way back into the prison, the guards closing the door behind him. What will the party do?- 418 replies

Karie watches as people get up from the bar as new quests shove off, trying to drink the tea. She felt bored. The hall was quiet, and nothing was going on. She felt cooped up inside the hall. "Ring, ding-a-ling, someone call?" Karie sat up to see the cleric she saved from two nights ago, giving a sleepy smile. "So, Masson's in need of some help, I presume?" "Yeah, with the move. He's getting there, and he's looking for an extra hand and was wondering if you'd help him out. Just about everyone else but himself and Charity are busy at the moment." "I could give a hand. I got nothing better to do around here." "Good, then throw this on." The cleric tossed Karie a lump of clothes which she instantly recognized as her Syndicate uniform. "Wait, how did you get this?" "I broke into your house. It wasn't too hard, really." Karie didn't know what to say. She just looked at her uniform and shrugged. "So long as my house is locked as of now and you didn't steal anything, alright, fine. Lets go, we got stuff to do." Karie and the cleric walked downstairs to the washroom. After a few minutes she walked back out with her new clothes in a small bag and her Syndicate garbs on. "Masson really ought to find a tailor to make these more summer appropriate. And why am I wearing this?" "He doesn't want people to catch on who his members are as we move out or are on the street, especially you. And like I said, wait till winter, then the whole ensemble becomes a gift from heaven." Karie follows the cleric out of the hall at a brisk pace, and out into Eubric.

I'm not sure where LordoftheNoobs went, so for now, all his actions will be controlled by the party leader. As well, I apologize for the lack of an update today, I was busy doing some work for my grandparents. "Well lads, looks like we'll be off, plenty of things to sell!" "Agreed. Shall we leave, Christian?" "Lets. The last thing we need is to get kidnapped or worse, caught loitering on the job." The two men begin to walk down the road, conversing among themselves, eventually disappearing into the night. The party knowing where they have to go head for the city limits, and to their new destination, the Resigore Prison. The only question was: would they be prepared for what could possibly be behind Costello's and potentially numerous other disappearances? I'll allow you guys to roleplay the walk to the prison for a little bit, as I have a few sets to build. Things are about to get interesting...- 418 replies

"Wow, wow! Alright, this should be more than enough! Okay, we'll tell you what we know. Apparently, some shady group of individuals have purchased a run down building on the coast of Uland, in Eubric Bay, just a two hour's walk from Eubric, the Resigore Prison. What makes the purchase bizarre is that there have been reports of people going missing since the prison was purchased about a month ago. Notable names include Connor Etifried, a mage who happened to have close ties to the Ziegfrieds, and Lydia Corenell, a Lion knight known for her brutal battle style and no nonsense attitude. So far, seven people have gone missing in this style, most either accomplished knights, or members of the Guild of Invision. "Apparently, the latest person to disappear, Costello Watt, was last seen dragged out of his house in the middle of the night six days ago by two robed men and thrown into a cart." "Wherever this "Costello" lives. He was apparently a Guild of Invision member too. However, this is probably not connect at all. Just a coincidence." "That's what we've heard involving the disappearances. Anything else you want off us before we continue on our way? We may make our quota tonight, Christian!" "Indeed we may!"- 418 replies

"You don't know about the kidnappings? Well... um... seeing as how my... business associate and myself have made very few sales this evening (with the exception of that other disguise kit...), perhaps if you, say, purchased some of our wares or even paid us some money we'd be more than willing to loosen our lips about the rumor mill." Jacob nudges Christian in the ribs. "Jacob's right, our customer benefits are far better than any other company, I can assure you. I'll have you know, that as salesmen, we hear more rumors than most people get in a week, so if you want to hear what the town's talking about, you best ask us."- 418 replies

Sorrow peaks open the door and notices the two men now standing outside the door. "You know, I think there's no one in this house." "Perhaps not, but you should still knock." "Me? Why me? You knock. It could be that kidnapper." "No, you knock. That's precisely the reason why you're knocking." "Fine. We'll both knock." The two men turn around to see Sorrow crouching in the door way. They both give a puzzled look before opening there briefcases full of various supplies. "Good evening sir, my name's Jacob, and this is... "Christian, and we are door-to-door salesman nonpareil. Can we interest you in some items?" The two men seem legit, with their briefcases shoved full of various items. Christian and Jacob, Door-To-Door Salesman Nonpareil Disguise Kit: (Accessory. Carefully making his way to the front door, Sorrow places an ear on the door. It sounds like two individuals in light conversation. "Do you know the next house we're stopping at?" "The entire street." "Well, which door would you like to start at?" "I don't know, you pick. The quicker we're off the street, the better, what with the disappearances and all." Deciding it would be best to search the rest of Costello's house, the party look about the place. Much to their surprise, the two story building was rather small. The kitchen and dining room were opposite of a parlor room in the entrance hall, with the laboratory at the end of it. A set of stairs led up to a small washroom and bedroom, as well as a small library, which is stocked with books on varying subjects. Despite the small house size, the furniture is well kept, and it seemed as if Costello had good living conditions. The party doesn't find any evidence to help in finding Costello. Coming back downstairs, the party can hear a conversation going on outside Costello's house. OOC: In other words, the evidence is all in the laboratory.- 418 replies

Karie, sitting at the bar, realizes the group of important looking people standing about the front of the bar. "A raffle? Crud, I don't have any paper on me... Here, just take one of my autographed photos. Don't worry, I have at least two dozen more. They're taken with a light box and the qualities not great, but it should still work." Karie Alderflask hands over her autographed photo to the man in the armor.
