Heroica RPG- Quest #91: The Sounds of Music
Kintobor replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
Alright, I thought I read that somewhere, I just wanted to make sure, thanks for the heads up! "Very well then, here's the Vibrataphone, Lawrence." Nicole moves over some of the various the scraps and projects littering the floor, as she picks up a device sitting on a bench. Swiftly moving over the clutter, she returns, handing it to Lawrence. "This is what you'll be taking to the Tritech Company Headquarters just beyond the city limits. Don't drop it, or you'll break it. I'd imagine getting knocked out would cause the person holding it to drop it. I'd rather see it in multiple parts then in some other groups hands, but still, you won't be receiving your pay if that happens as well." Vibrataphone and Blueprints (WP: 3, causes the slowed effect. Useable by all classes) "Now then, I also need you, Lawrence to take these." She hands the already encumbered paladin a set of wax coated rolls. "These are the first songs that will be reproduced and sold to the masses. There's a few well known singers in there." Nicole shrugs. "Doesn't matter to me, so long as the job gets done. I'll let you decide amongst yourselves. Now then, here's the route you'll be taking. Lawrence, you can take the map. I have things to finish up here. If you'll excuse me, I'd appreciate if you'd see yourselves to the door. I've got more work to do." Telsa goes back to work, looking about for something in the mess that was her workshop. The party makes their way back outside: back out to the cold. It seemed everyone had moved along that was lingering outside. What lay in wait for the party this snowy night? Only out the door, the party came to their first big decision, electing a leader. Karie's mind begins to boggle with information. Arthur, not human? What? And what's this talk of a Barbariccia Dellamore? "Ugh, I should have been at the Ball, for multiple reasons. Instead I was in some stupid town trying to get this old man his cloth monopoly. I could've stopped... so much... Arthur, look, I don't care if your not human by the textbook definition, you're human in my mind. You're more human than those demonic octopi, that's for sure. You're a caring guy, and you're one of the smartest men I know. If you're not human, then neither I am." Karie rubs Arthur's shoulder. "Let's... let's just get this over with." Karie rises from her chair, and blows Thailon a kiss. She walks out of the bar, hoping the others will follow, and into a secluded section of the Hall: portraits of past heroes hung on it's walls. She wasn't look forward to this. Not at all. "This looks as good a place as any, I guess."
-
I love how no one complains about Order. "Chaos is EVIL!! Evil!!! EVIIIIIL!!!!"
-
Karie gives a half hearted chuckle. "Well, you are my only living relative, and at this point I'd prefer to tell you this before it leaks itself, hehe... ha." Oh god, I'm so dead.
-
Karie's face turns redder. She tries saying something, but nothing comes out. She finally spits something out. "No comment." She slides down her chair slightly. She turns to Arthur, still slacking in her chair, looking back at Sorrow with a worried look. He needed to know, but not in the less crowded than usual hall. "Really... I'd prefer to talk about this in private later. Arthur, you, uh... mind being there too?"
-
"Well, he's definitely not tolerant of me. Seems as if whether or not I'm on the party's side or not, I'm a screw up." Karie sighs. "God... this whole thing's getting to me when it really shouldn't. They were both tight lipped about... what was that you talked about? Yeah, they wouldn't tell me a word about this Wren character when I quested with them, said "it wasn't of my concern." Wasn't of my concern alright... Who's "Baba"? Nothing good, for sure. I've never encounter Atramor, neither. He's a hero, though?" Karie scoffs. "Patricia? It's obvious, isn't it? She's both judge, jury, and executioner. Kayla had every right to stand trial. But no. That cold heart %itch did her in, defenceless, and on the ground... The rest of the watch I have no qualms with, but until she's either dead or gone, I do not associate with them, Arthur. You are the sole exception, you know that. I want Ulric dead too, but I refuse to assist the watch. You know what happened, Arthur. You also know why I detest Lawrence." Karie stares at the black, inky mass, almost speechless. "My god... it's almost... uncanny... Arthur... where did you get that? These Oculoids claimed to be made by some fire, some Life Spark. They're demons alright, but not typical ones. Call it fate, call it luck, call it karma, call it what you will... knowing myself, I'm not done with these cretins." Karie frowns. "Your a... Zootist? Is that what you meant... back you know where? When you said you'd been down a path you regretted taking? Arthur..." She turned to Sorrow. She'd probably have to answer for this. "I... know what you mean. I've got enough scars to last me a life time. Enough run ins with demons and half baked psychos to cover me for a lifetime. I've got physical scars, I've got mental scars. I feel... weak at times, since I allow them to get ahold of me, but now, I got this." She holds up the Paper Doll, "I can never be hexed again. It's almost... liberating knowing that. Scars heal Arthur. Some of mine have." Lab rat. "If it's Oculoid hunting, I want in. I have a score to settle with those filthy vermin. They're the worst kind of creature: born out of hate and malice. I may be known as a "witch", but I want to change this stereotype that all witch's are a bunch of vagabonds and ne'er-do-wells." Karie punches her fists together, attempting to show she was more courageous than she really was. "Which... grandaughter are we speaking about here? I was at home with Masson. Doing absolutely nothing. At all." Karie's face turns royal flush red. "See, that's troubling me too. These one eyed, octo-freaks must serve someone, but who? Whoever, or whatever it is, it's nothing good." Karie pilfers a glass of hot apple cider, sipping it. "Look at me, Arthur. I'm a walking, talking pile of luggage. I'm still here. Somehow." She pondered for a minute. She really had screwed up a lot these past few months, hadn't she?

Heroica RPG- Quest #91: The Sounds of Music

OOC: Zepher, if you're busy, a heads up would be nice. I really, really don't want to kick you off the quest. "Vibrataphone, Arbour. As for how the device functions, the roll is placed in the device. Each roll has grooves and scratches in it, that are recorded vibrations. A needle attached to the output moves across the device, and picks up the vibrations caused by the recorded sound, and outputs it through the cone. Quick physics lesson: sound is created by vibrations. Voila, you've produced sound. There's more to it, but the meat of it is eighty six percent technical jargon. As for reproducing the properties of a minstrel, I'd say one could, but you'd need both a minstrel to perform the song and a vibrataphone to record it. As for how big the device is, it's fairly large. One would have to hold it with two hands." "That would be decreasing our market if we simply sold ether products. Funny, seeing as how you're an ether user." Does the party have anymore questions?- 286 replies

The fact that I'm now the resident redhead means a lot to me. Beat that Haldor!

"Most likely for reason's why I don't like them." Karie takes a swig of her juice before continuing. "No, I have no clue who this Mephisto is. What's he, some arch demon or something? But whatever this Mephisto is, I'm not as scared about him as these Oculoids. They can read people's minds, and use there darkest secrets against them. They did a good number on me... without using any weapons. They can suck the souls out of people and change their appearance once they've done so, as well as possess them. Me and Althior though, we did them in for now. Although, their still around. My last quest solidified that. It's been nagging at me since yesterday. The thought of what they did under the lighthouse. They were taking people, abducting them... and turning them into... these things. Similar to them, yet like slaves. Killing machines. They went through at least five others before... they perfected the only one left alive after... I'm sorry, I can't go on. I think I'll be sick if I do. Bottom line, they're out there, and these laboratories are too. I almost kept me up last night." Karie slumps a bit, obviously worried, she begins to take a few of the candies and stuffs them in her mouth. Karie stops eating and turns to Thailon. She giggles, swallowing her food. "Well, aren't you a charmer? I'm already taken, if that was your intention."
-
Karie shakes her head. "Even when the watch does have someone useful, they go off and fire them. Typical. Not much happened to me. Demons, being badgered and berated by heroes, more demons, except with the Syndicate this time, the usual. You ever met Dyric and Thothwick? Idiots, the two of them... Thothwick in particular. He's the most two faced, pretentious, self righteous..." Karie tosses a hard candy at the rooster, looking bored. "Well, best we get cozy, I got a feeling we'll be here awhile. I'm up for a game of cards or dice if anyone's got anything? Anyone up for hot apple cider? The hard variety, of course?"
-
Well Guts is more or less Heroica's Chuck Norris. Guts Holla was attacked by sixty armed men. He danced his way out of it, with not a single man standing. Stay thirsty, my fellow Heroicans.
-
Karie watches as another fellow walked over and sat down, pulling his hood off. "Hehe, I can relate to owning a hood. Must get pretty stuffy under all that, eh? Name's Karie. And typically I've got a cat with me, but I figure she's sitting at home doing cat related activities." She holds her hand out. "So, you three that just sat down, what's new? Anything of interest? Arthur, I know you've been off for awhile, so how about telling me of your daring exploits?"
-
A battle doesn't need to have incredibly high stats to be difficult. I got one coming up that has a bunch of smaller enemies buffing the tank, while another spawns the enemies needed to buff the tank. Oh, and, the enemies are pretty much all anime-esque maids.
-
Nope, it failed. The bombs went to the Shadeux, not the Hinckwells, who the party was hired to give them to. Since they didn't, the quest failed. I know this because I was on the quest and the only person who wanted Hinckwell rep.

Heroica RPG- Quest #91: The Sounds of Music

The woman almost cracks a smile, resisting not to chuckle before she stops herself. She fixes her glasses, and speaks to the imp. "No. I'm not Gioconda. Of that, I am one hundred percent certain. My name is Nicole Telsa. And yes, I did remember hearing about that little incident, but even then, you have outstanding respect from many members of the Ji Pei house and the Tritech Company." Her voice was monotonous most of the time, with a hint of youth and interest. She didn't seem any older than twenty five. "Miss Arbour, I assume? Yes, I did some background research on each of you before I hired you. You assisted Mr. Szalinski with his shrinking issue. It's good to hear your enthusiasm. I just hope your true to your word." She looks the druid over casually, her eyes almost piercing through her. She shrugs her shoulders. "Considering you're going to act as couriers, I have no say in what happens once the vibrataphone leaves this workshop." Nicole scans De'kra thoroughly. "Well, aren't you a curious specimen? You secured most of Mr. Chavlo's missing shipment, correct? Anyways, let's get out of the cold and into the workshop for a moment. The mess grows by one hundred an one percent everyday, so mind the mess." She leads the party into the small workshop. Various parts and contraptions lay about, with gears and tools litter the floor. Containers: filled with various gems line one wall, while a curious contraption seems to be heating the room in the corner. Turning on her heel, Nicole faces the party. "I'm certain you know mostly why you're here, but for the sake of convenience, I'll go over it again. The Tritech Company has finally managed to produce and perfect one of Mr. Legonardo's designs: the Vibratphone, a device that can replicate and reproduce sound. Now, the device in question was given to me to finalize and ensure nothing was faulty, and after a thorough look over, the device is one hundred percent ready for the next phase, which is reproduction and marketing. The device will be sold to the market next month, during the Black Over sales. The reason you're here is because we fear the item's been leaked. We don't know how, or by whom, but we can't take any risks. You're to take the Vibrataphone to Tritech Headquarters outside the city wall, and delivery it to Dr. Don, who's waiting for you there. If by some means the Vibrataphone is broken or stolen, do not worry about showing up to the Tritech headquarters: we'll get the message. Now then, is there any questions?"- 286 replies

"Hmm. Can't say I've been there. As for people I can't get along with, yeah, I've met a few. Not like everyone else agrees about my opinion on them, though. Shawe? Yeah, I met one of them. Young guy, black hair, bit of stubble. Oh well." Karie tries hard not to laugh, but the talk of the pumpkin bombs makes her crack a smile. "Decimated a whole group of drugged up vigilantes with one. They didn't stand a chance!" She begins breaking into a hysterical fit of laughter. "I'm sorry! They're still kicking around though, don't worry. Oh, god! Uh, sorry. Just got back from a quest last night though. No, it was... same old stuff." Karie takes a drink of juice, continuing to listen. "No, we've met before, but it's good to see your doing well after... well, the incident out in the woods." She motions for him to sit at the table as well, nudging the tray of sweets in the two mages directions. "What, you mean out in the Fields? I don't know. I could go out, but only for a bit. I'm not to fond of mother nature and the great outdoors." Karie's mind races back to the Oculoids out in the Eubric forest. She shudders slightly. "I got nothing better to do though really. Might help get my mind off things."

As the party sifts about in the cold, the large wooden doors creak open, a skinny, bespectacled woman stepping out of them, looking about. Her eyes make contact with the party, almost piercing through them as she motions them over, her glasses beginning to fog up. "You must be the Heroicans I hired? My calculations are rarely ever wrong. If so, your punctuality is most admirable." How will the party respond?- 286 replies

Karie hears Arthur mumble something at the bar, turning to see him. "Arthur! What are you up to these days? Why don't you sit with me and Sorrow? I could use the company about now."
-
"Sorrow, I don't know if contacting Sarah and your son is the right thing. I mean, I know you want to know how they feel, but... sometimes, it's better not to know. I mean, look at me. Would I be better off not knowing who I am? Who I really am? The sister to a deceased high profile burglar? I don't know. If you do contact them though... I don't know. Just... be careful, alright. Move on from your mistakes, or at least make amends with them. With all the mistakes I've made, it's sort of hard too, but I try, in some way or another." "I don't know, it's just... I don't want what happened to me to happen to my kid if I had one, you know. I can't see myself bring a life into this world, only to see it get abandoned. It's not a pleasant feeling. I don't think I'll ever meet my real parents. They're probably dead at this point." Karie pauses, taking a long, somber drink. "You know, sometimes I wonder what would have happened if Kayla never got run through that night. If she was still here. Would she remember me? Would she of cared? I don't know. I'll never know. I don't blame you any more Sorrow. I want Patricia gone. I want her gone." Karie begins to sift her drink around, thinking of what to say next, something to lighten the mood. "You do anything ridiculous, Sorrow? Something you look back on and say "why did I ever do that", and then laugh it off?" She laughs, but the look of regret still lingers about her like a flock of vultures. "My first year on the street was like that, really."
-
Yeah, they'll annoy you to death. "Hey, listen!"
-
Yes it does.
