  1. I find the advent calendar to be disappointing every year. Too similar to last year's. I understand having Santa and the x-mas tree in there every year, but the other stuff especially the robber and police could do with a bit of a mix up.
  2. That set wasn't really based on the movie. The look was clearly based on the comics/cartoons and it's not like they can make an X-Men set with only characters that never appeared in a movie. The only thing in there that could be linked to the movie is the sentinel. Any similarities between the set and the movie is just down to the fact that both of these are based on the same source material. Don't get me wrong though. I would love to get a set featuring Apocalypse next year, and I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
  3. If we do get an X-Men set (very unlikely), I doubt very much it will be linked to the movie and it's more likely that Marvel would want it released in a different period to distinguish it from the movie even more.
  4. Thank you. Was that face chosen on purpose or is it a fun coincidence that ...
  5. Loving Female Thor. What head did you use for that one?
  6. What's the quality like? This could be the first non-LEGO fig I end up buying if good enough.
  7. Would love to see pics of this scene incorporated in the GE or any other set for that matter
  8. I wonder, if it's a pre-order and it ships on March 1st, will we get the double VIP points in March?
  9. Good thing the prohibition is on cookies and not alcohol or else Chez Albert would be in trouble
  10. Most of the creator houses do, I believe.
  11. If the Apple building did go ahead, it would the first modular I'd miss on purpose. It's just bland and uninspiring. I have no idea how it got 10000 supporters. The library and ghostbusters building on the other hand ... In a heartbeat.
  12. Thanks for the comments all. Yes, some may consider it ‘cluttered’, but I like it this way. I wanted to have a busy town with lots of activity. My only ‘rule’ now is that anything I add, has to have some reason or mini-story behind it (some maybe sillier than others, of course). My son loves to see the trains go round (and I have too many to hide away), so they had to be included. As I wanted to be able to have two running at the same time, I accepted that it would be close considering the limited space available. Besides, if one of the minifigs does get hit by a train, it’s not like it’s fatal; they can be rebuild after all ;-) At most, there will be three on the track (not counting the monorail shuttle), with one of them being stationary. Although maybe not all long ones at the same time, like in the pictures. I will swap them out now and again with some from my shelf to have some variation. @TheLegGodt - I’m a bit stuck with regards to the roads. I’m currently using what I had available, but would need some more T-junctions for what I have in mind. Mine are the older roads with the green borders, so I’d have to be a bit creative with the joins so it is not too jarring against the new style plates. The LEGO plates are actually fine for what I have in mind; at least for the main road. I was thinking of using the area between the road and the modular pavements for parking spaces and a green zone, where I can set up some little scenes. However, for the secondary roads leading to the train station and around the corner buildings, I could do with something a bit more flexible and less wide. I have been thinking of using some alternatives for these, but am not sure what yet. Brick-build roads aren’t really an option for me (at least not right now) and I am a bit reluctant to use a non-LEGO solution, although would consider it. Any suggestions? @Hrw-Amen - Nice to see you like the micro manager. At first, my plan was to stick with the city theme and make it a current-day town (I actually bought that particular set for the ice cream truck), but then I decided to make use of my other sets. So, now it’s set in the wider LEGO universe. I am keeping it light, just adding some nods to the other themes, and hopefully with a sense of humour. You won’t see any transformer-like fire engines walking around or Star Wars space ships flying over (although, a stormtrooper speeding on his bicycle through town would be funny, right?). It will be mostly minifies with maybe some set pieces. You may see Harry Potter enjoying a cup of coffee on the terrace (well not in these pictures, but you may have spotted his owl nearby), or some characters from the LEGO movie about town. Just now, I added Iron Man enjoying an ice-cream while the Mandarin is seeing what’s on at the cinema, and very soon Superman will be enjoying a leisurely flight above town. Just little thing like that.
  13. We recently moved house and I finally have some room to have a permanent town layout. It's not finished yet, but I thought it has progressed enough for me to share and get some input from the community on my first proper town. My goal is to display the modulars while still having a decent train layout and bringing some life into it by using as many of my minifigs as possible to create these little scenes. A view down main street. This is not final as I don't have all the correct road plates I need yet. I'm also not sure yet about the placement of the family house at the bottom right. A birds-eye view of the town. Public transport needs some work. You may have noticed that the monorail hasn't been completed yet (missing some track and the supports need improving). The railway crossings are also still work in progress. A front on look at the town. You may recognise some faces from The Lego Movie. I haven't seen it yet (no spoilers, please), but have decided that my town is set in the same universe so I can be a bit more creative with some of the minifigs I use. I also have Cloud Cuckoo Palace on order, which I'll put on that shelf as a way to incorporate that place into my town. Once the roads and public transport issues have been sorted, I'll post some close-up views of the various happenings around town. I welcome your thought and suggestions. Thanks.
  14. Today I received the final of my modulars, the Parisian Restaurant and also the Haunted House. At the same time I ordered the Ice Cream Machine - mainly for the alternate build which will go nicely in my city layout - as well as Cloud Cuckoo Palace, just because it's unlike any other set before. I'm actually thinking about incorporating it into my city layout as well.
  15. Unfortunately, my trains are currently all packed up ready for us moving house. The good news is that I should have a bigger space available to display them all so hopefully I'll be able to share some pics in a month or two. Currently, I own: 10233 Horizon Express (x2) 10219 Maersk Train 10194 Emerald Night 10020 Santa Fe Super Chief 10170 TTX International Double-Stack Car 10205 Large Train Engine with Tender, Black 10013 Open Freight Wagon 10014 Caboose 10015 Green Passenger Wagon 10016 Tanker 10017 Hopper Wagon 10001 Metroliner 10002 Railroad Club Car 7939 Cargo Train 7898 Cargo Train Deluxe 4565 Freight and Crane Railway 3677 Red Cargo Train 2126 Train Cars 4708 Hogwarts Express 9467 The Ghost Train as well as train related sets: 7936 Level Crossing 7937 Train Station 8404 Public Transport Station 4533 Train Track Snow Remover Looking forward to the 2014 sets!
  16. I'll be building my second set this weekend, I think. I ordered the extra bits I need for the bogie and modified underside yesterday as well. Still think it's a bit of an oversight of Lego not to include the extra bits, considering they designed the set to be connected. Anyway, I learned all about wanted lists on BrickLink and how to create them by parting sets, so it's all good!
  17. Got this as a xmas present from my son (wife really, as he's only a few months old). Played it on my wife's iPad and found it quite fun as did she. However, I'm really waiting for the Windows Phone and Windows 8 versions which were announced a few months ago. Has anyone heard anything new about it since?
  18. Would there be any benefit in replacing the baseplate with a standard one and adding a PF setup instead?
  19. Thanks guys. I know that I'll never be running 8 trains at once so it was probably more a theoretical question. I've got another one if you don't mind. Can you use a 9v wheelbase with a PF battery and receiver or does it need to be a PF wheelbase? And if you can, is it safe to run a train like this on a 9v powered rail? It seems to me that the motor would get power from the rail and battery at the same time, possibly harming the motor or battery? Or have I got that wrong
  20. Thanks. I suspected that would be the case. Sounds like it'll be a case of leaving some of my trains on 9V then. Luckily I do have a decent amount of 9V tracks and I can always include PF only loops in my setup. I wonder if there will be a solution from TLG in the future; they must realise people's collection will grow over time (unless they replace it with another new system in a few years ).
  21. Happy New Year all. I included a short introduction in a question I posted in another thread, but just saw this thread so thought I say proper hello here. I've been a fan of LEGO for as long as I can remember and got hooked on the train sets specifically during the late 9V era; late 90's to be a bit more specific (although I do remember playing with the 4.5V trains when I was younger - I'm 42 now, btw). Unfortunatly, I've been on a break for several years now (nearly a decade, it turns out) but decided to get back into the game and spent the last week rebuilding all my train sets and reading up on developments in the world of LEGO Trains. Of course, the biggest surprise for me was the discontinuation of the 9V system and the move to current PF system. After the initial shock, I got to grips with the new direction and already ordered a few of the more recent sets to make up for lost time (as well as some of the older ones I missed. Yes, I went on a bit of a spending spree ). I already owned the following sets: - 4565 Freight and Crane Railway - 2126 Train Cars - 4533 Train Track Snow Remover - 4708 Hogwarts Express (motorized with MOC tender) - 10001 Metroliner + 10002 Railroad Club Car - 10205 Large Engine with Tender + all the rolling stock to go with it (10013/14/15/16/17) - 10020 Santa Fe Super Chief And I've already ordered/got my eye on: Emerald Night, Cargo Train, Red Cargo Train, Maersk Train, Ghost Train and the gorgeous Horizon Express (I'll have to create one of those bitmap signatures once I got the new additions).
  22. Hi all, I'm new to this forum but not Lego. I've been on a break for a few years but decided to get back into the game and spent the last week rebuilding all my train sets and reading up on developments in the world of Lego Trains. I already ordered a few new sets to make up for lost time. The biggest surprise was the discontinuation of the 9V system and the move to the new PF system. I think I pretty much got to grips with the new system but do have one question that I hope you can help me with. As I understand it, one PF controller can accomodate up to 8 trains? What happens when someone has more than 8 trains? Do you just get another controller? Won't these channels interfere with those of the first controller?
