  1. I suggest viewing in all sizes on Flickr for more details. ;) The idea/general shape was based on a very rough sketch I did sometime back. Additionally I wanted to try a shape that I had never really done before with a starfighter. All stickers are official if you count cutting them in some places. Other stickers are those little scraps that usually outline the main object that I've never though to use until now. Click all sizes to see the sticks even on the cockpit. I'm pretty sure this turned out as my favorite starfighter I have ever built. You can see it a little better here and see interior here.
  2. Guess I should toss my name in the hat. Thanks for everything that you're doing.
  3. Sorry for the late reply to the EB questions, I meant to respond for the right moment and it's here I promise. Dave I'm glad to inspire. And big thanks from everyone for the kind comments. The tentacles were in the original concept of it (see new image below) and while they don't really have a definite backstory I was thinking along the lines of Black Fantasy and the Apocalypse in winter all at once. The usage of the 1x1 teeth was actually borrow from flickr user -Mainman-, so I can't really take credit for that. The image went a little funky with resizing in GIMP, but this was the original cartoony concept for the entry. As you can see the general concept is the same only if I had, had the pieces I would have possibly expanded it a little. Also I had planned on doing a custom flag, but that too became a little more complicated than expected. Anyway here is just a general look at what was planned and the outcome.
  4. Ah I completely missed Day 6 and I had planned on posting. I didn't know their would be a conviction so quickly.
  5. I know I've been a little lazy when it comes to voicing my opinion, but I don't really like to think of it as hiding in the tent. More like a shyness to talking. I promise to share my thoughts a little more from hereon out.
  6. Thanks for the kind response. Here's another pirate using the BrickArms monopod to hold the parrot up and cut flex tubing for the arm.
  7. The link must have broke when I replaced the photo because of an editing mistake. All better now. Thanks for the kind words.
  8. Looks better than the last one in my opinion. Maybe it needs more flowers. If it does then I'll rephotograph it later. See more on flickr.
  9. Sorry I'm late. I see why there was no conviction last night. That's good although also bad because it seems the deserters are still around. Vote later.
  10. Especially since he started using ABS plastic. Now they not only look fantastic, but don't break too! I never though to fill in a visor with the black line. Thanks for the idea.
  11. Neat work with that minifigure cast! I'm getting the SteamPunk vibe from this. Loving that plane. The 'Angelina Jolie' character has to be my favorite.
  12. $6.50 sounds about right to me. Are you also balancing in any materials you'll need or already have? To me a blank/official minifig is worth about $4.00 tops. Meaning when I go shopping on BrickLink for minifigures I don't like to pay much more than $4.00. Anymore than that and I'll just buy the parts I need. So lets say about $4ish dollars for each plain minifigure you want to customize and then an average of $2.50 for material? That sounds pretty fair to me. Looking forward to seeing your 12 customs.

    WIP

Thanks for that kind response. I uploaded the second picture to BrickShelf using a deeplink this time so there shouldn't be any problems. Flickr was probably having trouble since the photo is set to friends only. (Flickr friends that is) Everything should work now. Funny you mention that. The original intention was to have a gate breaking open (like shown in the just uploaded second picture) and all of the pirates pillaging and running wild on the old fort. I agree. If I can find my light bley slopes (can't find them used in any of my currently built creations, but kind find them where I supposedly sorted them ) then I'm really hoping to do some rock work similar to what I used in Yo ho, Yo ho. Probably less steep though. When I build the rock face I'm hoping to use some of those bamboo chute type pieces integrated into the cliff. I'm a little to lazy to actually look up what they're called, but I used them in the Yo ho, Yo ho diorama. I'll see what I can do. I liked the cluttered look a little. Originally there wasn't suppose to be as much tan. I was using it as a transition from the white to the crumbling stone. I'll add the vegetation for sure.

    WIP

I spent all of today working on this one diorama and I'm not quite sure I like. Now I'm trying to see if there is anything on it that I can salvage. I thought I may as well show all of it since I do somewhat like it. I also really want to get any thoughts on it. Here's a WIP shots when I was about halfway through. I like the techniques I used and the minifigure action. What really makes me dislike it is the thin 'incomplete' look it has all about it. I think it does look better in person, but even then not that great. Here's an additional photo I took later tonight. Anyway all thoughts are welcome. I'm trying to somehow salvage this and maybe make a pirate dio I like a little more. Any help welcome. Thanks in advance.
  15. Haha! Thanks. I'm glad all of you like it.
  16. The decal printed on the captain can be seen here. I did have some problems applying the decal. The backing paper kept getting stuck to the decal continuously. =/ As always see more on Flickr.
  17. Current WIP ship and posted creation. As far as sets go. Well I'll get another pic later.
  18. I hope this is the right decision and everyone is correct in what they've been saying and what I've been hearing. Here goes my first vote. Vote: Private David Reutal / Dragonator
  19. I usually make up a pirate creation as I got. At least the base is made on a whim with the landscaping and such. Then I may take inventory like others have noted for building buildings and such. As far as landscaping goes whenever I make a BrickLink order I always buy loads of basic dark bley and light bley bricks. I also buy plenty of dark and light bley slopes in with different angles of rock work. If they have those and even if the don't I also try to buy dark tan (especially wedges since my quantity of dark tan is so limited) and plates in any other organic color I see such as green, tan, or brown. Blue bricks and tiles help to. Now that I look at it, it seems like my BrickLink orders usually consist of basic brick with regards to pirates. I guess that's because I've gotten enough of the more 'specialized' parts and minifigures from sets. At least usually that's how it goes.
  20. An operation put in place during the Great Winter involving a former soldier being send into the hills and setting up camp as an experiment. After weeks in the mountains a soldier comes to retrieve the man of Mission 5. Not sure about the photography with this one. Other than that nothing else will probably change before the contest. Unless of course you guys like the photography. I just ran out of black paper. Also see more on Flickr or on MOCPages.
  21. I've been going over different ideas, browsing Wikipedia and Googles pictures/articles looking for inspiration in a hopefully new creation and depending on the day will either come up short or strike an idea. For the past couple of weeks I've been looking into a new pirate dio, but have consistently managed to come up short. Anyway my question to you is what is behind your inspiration? Hopefully others have this question so it will be beneficial to them as well. I just thought maybe there was more to finding inspiration behind some of the other pirate builders in the community. Thanks, Zack
  22. It seems we are off to a sad start, but I have faith that we will prevail. Long live the 42nd!
  23. I liked it! The animation was very nice and smooth. Great work.
  24. ^I've gotten a haircut since then.
  25. The radio. With the channels and everything. It provides LEGO inspiration in some inexplicable way. New Divide - Lincoln Park
