I believe Guts gave away the lamp as well without testing it out.

"No trouble at all, Purpearl! Pests are pests are pests, they've got to be dealt with, of course. So more than forgiven. Hel, it ain't my life on the line anyway." "Best I can tell you'll be hopping on a ship and heading out to sea. Can't say where you're headed, exactly. That information is confidential, so I told him to not tell me. See, if someone goes after him, and captures me, and tries to get the information out of me, I genuinely won't have it, so probably they won't try to get it out of me, knowing that." "Hey, don't worry, no one is going to attack you while you're with me. I'm friends with more people than not, and so attacking me doesn't make since. For every one enemy I've got, there are two friends to protect me. A smart system, ain't it?" He grins. "Oh, look, there's three more friends now." "Encouraging!" declares Everyman with a smile. "I think last time I saw you, you know, saw you in person you had a little lackey mage, but I'd heard the good news threw the grape vine that he was bonkers and joined the watch and was fired from the watch and leaks now, so, glad to hear it's true!" "Well, I don't want to spoil the surprise before everyone's hear. But I've heard of Thistlethorp. Bit cross-eyed? Yeah, it's not like the Crimson Crownies to make a mistake - if they're after him, they're after him, but Gods know that what's his face, my pal, has made some enemies, apparently, so who knows, maybe there was a merry old mix up? Oh, and look, another protector arrives! Did you get distracted with some unrelated adventure as well? I'm Johnny Everyman, and you're Purpearl Calmcacil! See how much I know?" Heroica RPG- Quest #96: Tying up Loose Ends
Zepher replied to Scubacarrot's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Well, Nyx," says Boomingham, hacking up a bit of blood, "I think I'll go ahead and take a break from this chap here and deal with that Cobra instead." Nyx nods, and Boomingham swings his Scupperer at the Cobra from the back row. Battle Order (unless Pandora gets online and can post! [hope I'm reading your OoC correctly Pandora I'm not trying to dictate your actions!]) >Nyx casts light at Abe >Boomingham v. Sewer Cobra -
It also raises the question how the original Ogre got in the room? The one that Ellaria and Atramor just killed. It was established Skrall was too big to climb the building, and too big for the door, so did that other Guard Ogre get shoved in as a child and then has lived there ever since?
-
OoC: Worth noting - no one has been lazy or slow with responding! The dice gods happen to be holding a person or two up, so I'm moving this along for those who finished! "Well hola there, amigos!" exclaims Everyman as he pivots and finds two heroes behind him, as if they've been there the whole time and not like they've just arrived from two separate directions. "Ah, the lovely Miss Fenral - still single, I hope - and you must be... Nerwen?" He laughs aggressively. "Just kidding, just kidding. Oh how I make myself laugh. Matthias, how are you, I'm Johnny Everyman, but I guess you already knew that, huh? Where are the other four protectors? You should at least know where your Heroica fellows are, right? It's always the ones you don't expect to be on time that surprise you - but I guess something you're expecting can't really surprise you." Makes sense, and on top of that is the ruling that seems most balanced! And we've discussed it before, but without someone to review the weapons he makes, Sandy ironically puts out the most unbalanced weapons.
-
Broomsticks are broken because they let previously un-ranged classes suddenly become ranged. And they're not all that rare, because anyone can start with one - but that's besides the point, and it's not a huge issue as far as I'm concerned. Just a minor one - not something worth losing sleep over. Having hosted with Quilin Balde for an entire quest, unless Sandy was paying no attention (which would be understandable, considering how many quests there are) it does indeed ignore the row the hero is in. And again, the Boots of Evasion also, practically, allow the hero to ignore row, as they can attack from the front but be damaged as if they were in the back.
-
Let me revise that. I think the broomstick is an incredibly broken weapon to begin with. Here's the quotes, though.
-
That being said, I'm still against a damned ranged Dragoon. But I do actually remember that ruling, so thought it was worth mentioning.
-
I thought that was what you lived for.
-
I actually recall that too, in all honesty - and changing the ruling now seems a little unfair, considering that some people probably chose their weapon's type based on the fact that it would not be limiting, but on the other hand I fully understand the ruling in this case, so that a Dragoon (and other power-house like heroes) can't become ranged. Though there are other drops that allow for just that (Qiln Blade, Boots of Evasion).
-
A'okay with me! I actually kind of prefer them that way (for the exact reason that WBD outlined) but I don't know if I had forced them that way in the past, and didn't want to over-rule myself in a manner unfair to other players.
-
But with ether cores they can hop in for one round, and then hop back out for three or four or five. I'm actually with JimBee on this one, though I didn't think it when I saw it in 93. It's certainly worth looking into and thinking about balancing-wise, and I think he's on to something. If only for free-hit purposes.
-
102ers - busy day, updates will roll in when I can manage! Rest of the anxious crowd watching the dormant topic ( ) they've almost all found their way to each other.
-
Saving them has made them particularly powerful. The way Scuba described it is correct, unless Sandy disagrees, in which case it's incorrect!

Heroica RPG- Quest #96: Tying up Loose Ends
Zepher replied to Scubacarrot's topic in The Heroica Archive
OoC: I was in the back row, so should only have done 44 damage. "Back to dancing with ugly for me, right?" he asks Nyx, twisting away from the Cobra and lunging at Abe from the front row. -
Oh, I knew exactly what you were referring to! I love that you got a scar from it - I think it's a fitting memory to have a scar from.

Heroica RPG- Quest #96: Tying up Loose Ends
Zepher replied to Scubacarrot's topic in The Heroica Archive
OoC: That old scar that I gave her? I wish more people reacted to being shot by getting scars. Boomingham frowns. "I hadn't even noticed you were hurt. Damn. After this battle, if we make it through, let's make sure I get one of those Phoenix Essences from you. But for the time being, I'll play with your little snake friend for a little." Boomingham swings at the snake with his Frozen Saber from the back row. -
Weapons that hasten heroes still hasten them even if they don't land a hit. Since the Pheles Rod used to ALWAYS create an Aura, it works like that. The 1/2 chance is to help the QM balance, not to confuse them, though that seems to be what it did here.
-
I actually bought a set to get Scupperer (or at least the closest purist look-alike I could find), so perhaps I do conform a little bit.
-
It's certainly a cool way to make characters! I don't do it personally, but more power to the people who do - and if it's possible, I try to work it!

Heroica RPG- Quest #96: Tying up Loose Ends
Zepher replied to Scubacarrot's topic in The Heroica Archive
"I have so many wonderful qualities, and yet you only focus on my usefulness," pouts Boomingham with a large smile. He sees Barty floating nearby. "Did this little chap bother you while I was around. Thanks for showing up when you're least useful." "I'm always useful." "So, dear, what's the plan? Should I try to keep the Boney chap off our backs, or get to work on the snake?" -
Matthias is the first Ranger I think should really stick with his base class - Triple Shot with that cannon is awesome. EDIT: Though of course no one will know what I'm talking about!
-
Scuba puts us through the gambit for sure. It's interesting to be flying by the seats of our pants every battle - especially since I know that I myself sometimes design some difficult battles. I wouldn't say no to an easy battle (especially since the challenging battles make it so that we only get about one battle a month) but it's certainly a fun challenge!
