  4. Yes, even ranged attacks are affected by Firewall, but the damage is halved (3 damage). Yes, the back row receives halved damage (2 damage). So? Any job class that has ether can use the scrolls, not just original mages and clerics.
  5. The Saracens look at each other. "I am deeply sorry, sahibs, but I for one have never heard of poor tourists. Get them, men!" The three thugs assault the party, but Thothwick and Thormanil quickly draw their weapons. Bluto loads his harpoon while blowing a raspberry at the attackers. PREPARE FOR BATTLE! OoC: I will return to Cinna and Bartholomew tomorrow.
  6. It says the effect is permanent in the description already. Of course, the upgrade is weapon-specific, and will not transfer to another equipment. You also won't lose the upgrades when you change classes, since it's permanent.
  7. The party decided to split up. While Cinna and Bartholomew headed towards the eastern parts of Salmanda to find the menagerie of a man called Marmaduc, the rest of the party turned right from the Daystar Tower and came into a shadowy alley. The shade was pleasant in the heat of the day, but that was as welcoming as the alley got. Bluto leaned closer to Thothwick and Thormanil. Three dark figures emerged from the shadows. Two of them carried massive sabres while the third snapped his fingers and a flame appeared on his hand. "Good sahibs, I am afraid you have taken a wrong turn somewhere", the flame-wielding man said. "This is the territory of the Saracens, but I would be most willing to direct you to the right way, for just a meagre price." "Yeah, a meagre but not negotiable price! Guffaw!" one of the sabremen laughed. The other just stood there with a sinister look on his face. "Oh, be nice to these tourists!" the pyromancer scolded his companion, then turned back to the party. "Just pay us 100 gold and we will show you out of the alley." "Refuse, and you can stay here - forever, guffaw!" the grinning sabreman said, slashing his blade in the air. The serious man had meanwhile moved behind the party, blocking their way out of the alley. What would the party do? Pay 100 gold to the Saracens, or face them in battle?
  8. I could see Tesni carrying the bear-shield, for one. Or the wolf-shield.
  9. Results of Round One of the Pirate Kitchen Battle: Eric vs. Pirate Chef - Extra Critical Hit >Ad-Hoh (Darkness) vs. Pirate Maid - Special Damage Christopher vs. Kitchen Rat (White) - Damage >Hybros (Throwing Knife) vs. Kitchen Rat (Brown) - Critical Hit >Erdathcath vs. Kitchen Rat (Light Grey) - Critical Hit Maurice vs. Kitchen Rat (White) - Special Guard (Fail) Kitchen Rat (Dark Grey) - Free Hit against Eric The battle in the kitchen begins. Eric scores a massive hit against the chef right off the bat, dealing 36 damage. Ad-Hoh tries to cast a spell on the Pirate Maid, but she screams for help. Since the mage is standing on the back row, all five of the maid's allies only hit him for 1 damage each, causing him to lose 5 health. Christopher is attacked by the white rat that he targeted, but he only loses 1 health thanks to the protection of his shield. Hybros throws his knife with lethal accuracy, dealing 20 damage to the brown kitchen rat. Likewise, Erdathcath shoots her arrow true, causing 19 damage to the light grey rat. Maurice is bitten by the white rat, and not even his special resistance can prevent him from getting poisoned. He subsequently loses 1 health because of the poisoning. The remaining rat gets a free hit on Eric, causing 5 damage to the barbarian. All six enemies still remain. 10. Welcome to the game, Flipz! Your character has now been added to the Gallery of Heroes in the first post of the Heroica Hall topic. Here's an avatar sized (100x100 pixels) picture of your character:
  11. I think you should focus on playing whatever class you want, and not worry about screwing your future game up. The expert classes are going to be something totally different, as they will most likely be the ultimate classes that people will stick with until the end of this game (whenever that may be). Remember that the whole point of this game is to ENTERTAIN and PASS TIME, so please don't take it too seriously. Just have fun with it!
  12. "Just don't forget me, Miss Cinna!"
  13. No, upgrading a weapon at a blacksmith does not affect any special effects the weapon might have, aside from the ones that give double power against certain type of enemies.
  14. The turban-headed man reads the list. "I THINK THE ALMAGESTA HAS ONE NOCTURNE AMORELLA IN HER GARDEN, BUT LIKE THE NAME SAYS, IT ONLY BLOOMS AT NIGHT. HOPE THAT HELPS!" The man throws the paper plane back down.
  15. No and yes. As a Rogue advancing into a Sorcerer, you will gain 1 ether per level PLUS an extra ether for the class (a total of 16 ether if you're at Level 15 when upgrading), while a Mage advancing into a Sorcerer would already have 19 ether at Level 15, and then would gain an extra one (a total of 20 ether, giving the mage an edge). Health and ether continue to upgrade like usual upon level up. The values mentioned in the advanced class rules are additional bonuses to those values. When you switch advanced classes, you need to change the bonus health and ether accordingly. For example, if you switch from Level 15 Sorcerer into a Level 15 Raider, you will gain 3 health (since Sorcerer's bonus is +4 but the Raider's bonus is +7) but lose all your ether. Hope this clears it up for you. Yes, that's correct. Although since I spent so much time finalizing the advanced classes, I'm currently too out of steam to start planning the expert classes.
  16. The chef rumbles in anger. "Don't you dare offer me MY OWN RUM, you thieving bastards!!!" "And I'm an absolutist, so no thanks", the maid chimes in.
  17. The woman shakes her head apologetically. OoC: You don't need a map, there's already a list of available locations. "WHAT DO YOU WANT?" the man shouts back.
  18. It depends. If the choice affects the damage output, it should be made before the roll (as is the case of Mortal Hits). In certain cases, like in Mystic Knight's "Enhancement", the choice of whether to upgrade a weapon or a shield can be made after the roll instead, since it doesn't affect the damage done in that round (unless it's rolled in the first turn by a hastened player, but I'll leave special cases like that up for the QM's jurisdiction). Yes. It's up to each QM whether the Animal Talk will work or not. That's why the players should never speak for the NPCs behalf unless given permission by the QM.
  19. "<In the eastern parts of the city. His menagerie is open to the public, so it is very popular and anyone can point you to it.>" Has the party done enough questioning? Where will they head next? ~ The dark alley ~ The souk ~ Marmaduc's Menagerie ~ The Almagesta's palace ~ Shipwreck Shore ~ Kalakita Bog
  20. EDIT: Beaten to the punch.
  21. "<Ah, you are a ranger. Sorry, my tongue just does not twist to the complicacies of your language. I am Scaro, by the way, from the tribe of Hyenamen. Let's see about that list... You need Demonic Dust? It is left behind by demons when they are banished. I do not know where you could find a demon around here, though. Oh, the richest man in the city has unicorns in his menagerie. The man's name is Marmaduc, and he collects rare animals. He even tried to cage me once, that greedy fool...>"
  22. Looks fun, good job! And thanks for correcting my maths, I really suck at calculus...
  23. The party leaves the stockroom and enters the kitchen. There they face the confused cook and maid. "Where the hell did you come from?!" the pot-bellied cook shouts, waving a greasy sausage and a long, sharp knife. "Were you raiding my rum storage for the fellers? You don't look like our folk, though..." "Psst! I think they're spies!" the maid whispers. "A-ha! That does it! YOU - that's what for dinner!" The kitchen staff is joined by four squealing rats, lured out of their hole by the promise of fresh meat. PREPARE FOR BATTLE! 24. "Grrrrough?" It turns out that the horned man is some sort of a man-beast incapable of common humanoid speech. The man with the serpent staff nods. "Indeed. I am a Cobra Priest from the Kalma Marshlands south from here. Unfortunately I do not know much about Salmanda since I just arrived, but I must warn you. When I came through the Kalakita Bog on my way into town I encountered a frightful wyvern. It almost got me with it's foul breath, but since my brotherhood trains to become immune to all sorts of poisons, I managed to survive with just a few scrapes. For some reason the wyvern did not chase me, but just stayed in the spring where I came across it." The man takes another look at the list. "Oh, you are searching for the venom of the Golden Scorpion?! If you manage to find it, you could sell it to me. I would be willing to pay 1000 gold for it, it is so rare and hard to acquire!"
  25. Only the eyes of the woman can be seen behind the veil, but they are friendly. "Danab's Fountain, you say? Of course I know where it is, but you should not go there. A terrible wyvern has befouled the sacred spring. It has turned the once purifying waters toxic, and even the Almagesta's soldiers have been unable to kill it. No, don't ask me about the location, I could not live with myself if you were to die by going there." The man looks at the list, then gives Docken a strange look. "Pubberised? Whazzat? I do know that you can find Golden Scorpions from the Shipwreck Shore outside the city, but they're a rare sight indeed. Oh, and if you're looking for rare items, there's a souk nearby. Just go left from the Daystar Tower."
