Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Sandy replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
Umm, the QM? And no, having one party member down is too common of a situation, and not really a dire one. They already steal gold with every other positive roll... Yes, definitely. The whole point of taming is that relates to the Sylvan Ranger's ability to connect with nature. It doesn't make much sense for them to be able to tame humanoids, robots, demons etc... -

Sküld is taken aback by the heroes' aggressive tone, but bravely greets them anyway. "Umm, hi everyone! My name is Sküld Verdandi, and I'm an altar girl at the Oracle's Shrine. I was supposed to meet you at the gate, but then I ran into this gathering and stayed to listen in. Sorry..." The elven woman also walks to the party. "Heroes of Heroica, I presume? I am Teresa, a representative of the Embassy. I'm sorry but I couldn't help but to overhear that you are here to cause a scene with the Wolfgang. I would strongly advice against it, if you ask me. The Hovels have been quite peaceful since the riots. The people around here don't have a high regard towards your organization, I'm afraid. Assaulting the Wolfgang representatives even though they have done nothing wrong would not help you gain anyone's trust, but would only vilify you further. But that 's just my two cents..." At that moment, the pale orator on the stand closes his book. "Theeese aaare the laaaws ooof Uuulric Wooolfkiiin wiiill impooose iiif yooou eleeect hiiim the kiiing ooof thiiis ciiity. The pooower iiis iiin yooour haaands, ciiitizens ooof Eubriiic. Uuulric iiis the meeessiah of a neeew eeera, prooomising tooo briiing peaaace aaand juuustice tooo Eeeubric aaat looong laaast. Tooo shooow hiiis cooontinued beeenevoleeence tooowards the pooor and depraaaved, heee oooffers thiiis breaaad tooo yooou." The Wolfgang attendants then start to direct the crowd. "Alright, everyone! Line up here, please!" "There's plenty for everyone, so no need to push or cut the line." Most of the people in the crowd form a haphazard line, while some stay back, observing the situation. Living in the Hovels is bound to make people suspicious of everything, after all. The man in the top hat stands on the side with a pair of werewolves. Sküld pulls Namyrra's sleeve. "Alright, let's go see the Oracle now. I really worry for her..." She then looks at the heroes, who are staring at the group of Wolfgang members. "Unless you're really up for a fight, like you said." -

As the party gets closer to the crowd, Namyrra sees a familiar figure talking to a tall elven lady. "But I don't understand this! Are the people really willing to let Wolfgang take over just because they give free bread?!" "It is not that simple, dear Sküld. The six houses in power have done very little to make things better around these quarters. The Wolfgang, on the other hand, has always been favourable to the denizens of Hovels. If we don't count the riots that took place a year ago, the Hovels have been a much more peaceful place since Ulric took out the rivalling crime gangs. And it is not just bread they've given to the poor. Have you seen the renovation projects that have started around the Hovels in the past year or so? Most of them are being funded by the Wolfgang." "But aren't they still robbing people? How can anyone trust them, Teresa?" "Robbing from the rich and giving to the poor, mostly. And didn't you just hear what that man said? If Ulric is made king, they will enforce punishment over thievery. I'm sure many original members of the Wolfgang object to that, but I hear they have gotten a lot of new members ever since the riots. Not just criminals, but common people off the streets who are tired of the way this city treats people. It's survival of the fittest here. I'm inclined to believe that under Ulric's rule, everyone would have better chances of making a living for themselves, no matter what race or class they were born in." "Well, I've gotta say everyone has been nicer to my tribe ever since we moved out of the Hovels. We aren't treated like icky bugs anymore. But, ummm... Are you a Wolfgang member now too, Teresa?" "Ha ha, nothing like that. It's just that my work at the Embassy has really opened my eyes to the discrimination that people of different races have to endure every single day in this city. Just look at this crowd, Sküld. The majority of the people living here are greenskins or other minority races. Freedom comes with a steep price in this city... I have to say I'm not opposed to see that changed." Suddenly Sküld spots Namyrra, and waves at the party. "Miss Namyrra! Over here! It's great to see you again! I still feel awful that you got eaten by that demon because of me..." -
King Ulric isn't in power yet.

"If you're done loitering around, you can find the Wolfgang's gathering place from Lamppost Square en route to the Oracle's Shrine. If you head through this gate and go straight, you can't miss it." And sure enough, under the only lamppost in the entire Hovel district, a crowd was forming. The smell of fresh bread lingered in the air, mixing into the other, less-pleasant odors of the area. A sinister figure wearing a top-hat was reading something from a large book to the gathered townfolk. His voice was drawling, monotonous and hoarse. "...Aaand aaall faaarmes, aaartisans, eeenterpriiises and guiiilds muuust paaay a yeeearly tiiithe tooo the throoone, consiiisting ooof a teeenth ooof theeeir iiincooome. The people in the crowd were seemingly uncomfortable, shifting and muttering anxiously, their eyes more on the stacks of bread guarded by armored Wolfgang members and werewolves. The long-winded speech just kept going and going. What will the heroes do? -

"All I heard was that the Wolfgang were offering bread to the people of the Hovels in exchange for lending an ear for them. They're spreading their propaganda again, methinks." "O ho ho, you mean that 'King Ulric' crap? The thought of Wolfgang leading this city cracks me up every time!" "Yes, it's all silly business, really, with the Wolfgang preaching their 'holy word' to the poverty, even though they would listen anyone who gave them the time of the day. Our captain isn't interested in what happens at the Hovels. As long as the rubble stays inside this wall, she's happy." "If you want to go see what the fuss is all about, we won't stop you." "We won't? Oh well, as long as you don't get any wrong ideas listening to the howling of the wolves. Or did you want something else?" -

But I guess you are right. If I make it out of this alive, I am stronger than I ever imagined. I just never imagined I'd be going on a quest again. Oh, I better hurry. The others must be waiting for me, and I haven't even decided what to bring with me!" The first thing Byblos the Librarian grabbed was the black book, without even thinking about it. Then he started to look around for other things that might be useful. Half an hour later he arrived at the main hall pushing a wheelbarrow full of books and other essential things. "I apologize for my tardiness! I just couldn't decide what to bring with me... Shall we be off, then?" The four other heroes waiting for the librarian to join them exchanged worried glances. They all thought if it was wise to bring the frail scholar along for the quest. But on the other hand, the Oracle had personally chosen him, so she must have had her reasons. Like it says in the description, the Mystic Knight can enchant "either their weapon or their shield", which refers to the equipped equipment. You have to realize that if the buff consumables are removed from the Marketplace, then they no longer have a set price. QMs can sell them in the quests for whatever price they want (which is kinda true even now, but at least now players can go "aw heck, I'll just wait until I get to the Marketplace to buy these"). I really don't like the idea of adding any sort of cooldown effect to anything. It just adds one more thing for the QMs to keep track off... But that's why there's ways to remove positive buffs from enemies nowadays. Enemies can very rarely rebuff themselves.
-
You can't be chosen to every quest you'd want in - especially in your case it would be totally impossible, since you want into so many quests. But rest assured that this will not be the last quest involving Byblos. No, WP:5 is a good number for a "restart" weapon, and the price is affordable too, so Anwyl's weapons will not be raised from that. The WP was originally raised because the one point's difference to the starting weapons was a bit too small.

Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Sandy replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
And here's a "little" addition to the High Cleric's Shield-skill, which should fix any issue of lameness it had. SHIELD: Hallowed Ascension – The high cleric connects with their deity, reviving all fallen allies and restoring everyone in the party to full health at the cost of 1 ether. All undead enemies are instantly killed as well, unless they are immune to sudden death. If all ether is depleted, nothing happens. With Arc Heal, High Clerics are detrimental to a group of undead enemies anyway, so I think the addition of undead insta-kill isn't too powerful. -
Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Sandy replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
I've thought of a new Shield-skill for the Guardian Knight: SHIELD: Mirror Sentinel – The guardian knight takes a protective stance that reflects all attacks and special skills directed at the party back to the opponents for the duration of the next round. With that, Aura of Honour, Master of the Order, Shield Bash and Well Deflected Damage, the class should stand out enough from the other knights. -
I'm not willing to limit the amount of effects one player has, since that would be totally artificial and would force me to go through many class builds again to fit the new ruling. I fail to see what it would solve, besides making the battles less complicated and varied. I am willing to consider removing the "drinks" from Portia's Shack at the Marketplace, to reduce accessibility to the positive effects. They are more fitting to be sold at a bar, anyway. But I still need time to think about all the possible consequences.

But the two are not connected in any way, so it doesn't "make sense". I for one would not take it for granted that an enemy immune to hexed would automatically be immune to taming as well. You can't leave game mechanics up to the players interpretation like that. What's the problem with QMs just saying when their monster is immune to taming? -

Since I like some of the job traits I've thought for the Veteran Classes so much, I've decided to give them to the Paragon and the Prophet as well, to make them that much more desirable to move onto once the player hits Level 50. Paragon's job traits are: Command, Aura of Honour, Gamble, Initiative, Restoration and Retreat Prophet's job traits are: Nurturing, Spellcasting, Arcane Wisdom, Track Down, Clairvoyance and Glossolalia -
Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Sandy replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
I actually did take your suggestions into consideration when creating the classes, but giving them additional actions just seems too much. The Sylvan Ranger was an exception, since I couldn't figure out how to increase their skills otherwise without outclassing the Barbarian Chieftain. Archmage can already drain ether, you just have to realize that not that many enemies have ether to begin with, so it's kinda futile to make it a separate skill. High cleric can revive with their Shield-skill, allowing them to revive otherwise is just overdoing it. And the Guardian Knight is already extremely defensive without additional blocking skills. Remember that there's still Master Classes to advance to. If these Veteran Classes were made too powerful, nobody would want to become a Paragon or a Prophet anymore. Because that doesn't make any sense. They are two totally different things. -
Tanking means absorbing damage, it doesn't include automatically damaging the enemy while doing it. So this change does not punish tanking in any way. You're silly.

I think it's only educational to include strong female characters in action themes, even though the target demographic might not relate to them or even dislike them. It shows children (especially the prepubescent boys that are the main demographic) that women can fill other roles than that of a mother or a damsel-in-distress. And a female minifig in an action themed set is sure to encourage at least some girls to buy that set. I was a "quirky" child when it came to LEGO sets, because all it took was for the set to include one female minifig to make me want it. That's why Paradisa was a big hit for me, despite the pink boxes. I guess I wanted equality to my playing sessions. I remember that at one point I had a whole of nine female minifigs, and I was so proud of that. Nowadays I've lost count, but there are plenty enough girls among my collection of 1500 figs.

Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion

Good suggestion. There's really no reason the enemy won't attack the ranger if he fails to tame it Well, a QM can always make bosses immune to taming, but in theory, yes. And here's the last one! Quite a fun one it turned out be, if I do say so myself. (It's probably because it's 3:30 AM here...) Rogue Thief – These stealthy robbers leave their victims hanging out dry, just as Lady Luck was wont to do. · Additional Health: +20 · Weapons: Rogue thieves use the same equipment as rogues. · Job Traits: Flee – Rogue thieves can leave battles at any time, but they will not gain any rewards from the battles they’ve fled from; Gamble – Each time the rogue thief gains gold, they can take a single gamble of “double or nothing”; Kingpin – If there are other original rogues in the party, the rogue thief is lucky while the other original rogues gain 50% more gold from stealing. · Battle Style: Devious – Rogue thieves use every trick in the book to survive battles while gaining wealth on the side. 1. SHIELD: Grand Theft Hero – The rogue thief performs almost a perfect crime as they transfer health equal to three times their weapon power added to their level from the target to themselves and steal all positive effects and drops that the target has. 2. CRITICAL THEFT: The rogue thief attacks the target with strength equal to two times their weapon power added to their level. If the target carries gold, the rogue thief steals gold equal to the target’s level. 3. THEFT: The rogue thief attacks the target with strength equal to their weapon power added to their level. If the target carries gold, the rogue thief steals gold equal to the target’s level. 4. STEAL & HIDE: If the target carries gold, the rogue thief steals gold equal to the target’s level. Then the rogue thief hides for the remainder of the round, avoiding all actions that might come their way. 5. DAMAGE: The rogue thief is struck by the opponent’s attack. 6. SPECIAL DODGE: The rogue thief has a 1/2 chance to dodge the opponent’s special skill so that it hits the next ally in turn instead, unless the skill hits everyone.
