Heroica RPG - Quest#100: To The Tower of Babel
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
The party decided to leave the Wolfgang envoy to defend for themselves against the witch and the giant. "Shoo! Get out of here before I turn you all into toads!" "Mother! Watch out!" The noise of the struggle soon faded behind them. Walbartan and Hodurr followed the heroes as they made their way back through the wild undergrowth of the mire. "The easiest way to Port Taboo is to follow the Blood Brick Road, but the guards from Vega must certainly be patrolling it by now. It is still dark, too, so who knows what we might encounter in the wilderness. Maybe we should put up a camp for the rest of the night?" What option would the heroes choose? Holy hell, I must've been tired yesterday! For some reason I thought I had signed up to WBD's quest, but it was of course your Hybros quest! Sorry for the confusion! I will be away for the first two weeks of September on a trip to Greece, with an unknown access to online. If that's a problem, sign me out of the quest by all means, but I would still love to play.

I know, right?! I really love building the sets and the figs for these quests, but sometimes I feel like I'm spending too much time and effort on what will only show in a few shots. That's why I add photos of scenes that don't really need them - just to give the sets more screentime.
-
I'll add a link to the wiki to the Index. Please feel free to add in whatever information you see fit for the game - others can always edit it if there's some glaring mistakes in it.

"Aaan iiintereeesting choooice. Yooou reeeally waaant thaaat dwaaarf deeead, dooon't yooou?" Before anyone could respond, a new person walked into the clearing. It was an elderly woman with green skin and garish clothing. "The Wyrd Tree is sacred! How dare you defile it by laying your hands on it?!" The old woman looked dumbfounded yet defiant. Orokai approached her first. "You better turn back, hag. We..." The shrubbery thrashed again as another gigantic figure leapt through them and hurdled himself against Orokai. The two were evenly matched. "You don't hurt mother!!!" Meanwhile, the old woman had whipped out a pink wand. "Get down there, you menace!" she croaked and flung a beam of light on Mr. Gaunt, knocking him down from the roots he was standing on. "She's a witch, and not the only one in these woods by far. We will handle this, you better run before others appear", Detraehd Loc warned the heroes. What would the party do? Stay and settle the matter or flee out of the Marshlands? -
That's something for you guys to speculate. For the record, these are the items Mirror Sorsha and Mirror Carrot would've dropped if their counterparts had participated into the battle: Barbaric Helmet (SP:2; Power +3; suitable to barbarians; headwear) Swift Boots (Changes HIDE into STEAL & HIDE, allowing the wearer to steal gold equal to the target’s level if it carries gold, in addition to hiding; suitable to rogues; footwear)

A red-skinned woman with fiery eyes and hair greeted Throlar at the stall. "You are in for a game of Lucky Clams, then? My name is Ifrita, and I came all the way from Port of Farzibar to bring this game I developed known to the masses. It's been a massive hit so far!" The woman then told Throlar how to play the game. In Lucky Clams, you try to find pairs among 15 clamshells. Each pair you find gives you a different reward - but watch out for scrap metal! PRICES: Open 2 clams: 5 gold Open 4 clams:15 gold Open 6 clams: 25 gold Open 8 clams: 35 gold Open 10 clams: 45 gold Open 12 clams: 55 gold Open 14 clams: 65 gold Note: You can stop opening clams at any time, despite the amount of openings you've purchases. PRIZES: Find yellow pair: Grand Potion Find red pair: Grand Tonic Find blue pair: Remedy Find orange pair: Phoenix Essence Find turquoise pair: Fenghuang Essence Find gold pair: 60 gold Find either of the two white pearls: combine with any pairless clam opened to create a pair Find the solitary scrap metal: lose the game automatically "The clams are reshuffled after each game. How many would you like to open for starters?" -
Fabian takes the pauldrons from Hybros and gives him 30 gold in return. "It is a done deal, Master Mummy! I don't believe I've had these in stock before..." OoC: Just for the record, bolding words has a better effect in making them pop out if you don't bold almost everything. "So that would be 15 gold each? Certainly, for a strapping fellow such as you!" Fabian takes the hats and hands 30 gold to Em.

I kinda agree with CMP. Having your quest NPC drop by at the Hall is a nice way to introduce them to the players before the quest begins, but it definitely shouldn't be overdone. Besides, a big bad villain showing up just to flaunt their badness in front of the good guys' faces - and not even trying to hurt them - is kind of a cliché.
-
It's best that QMs steer away from him, if he decides to come back. I was really hesitant about writing that he successfully completed the quest in the Heroes' Gallery, but apparently Kintobor didn't give him experience from the battles he didn't participate in, so I wrote it anyway.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
Sandy replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm really loving the line-up this time. After 11 series, the designers have to think outside the box a little, resulting in many clever and original minifigs in this series. They could have chosen to go with more replicates and variants of existing minifigs, but there's really just 3 of those in this series: male Lifeguard, male Rock Star and female Genie - and they each bring their own twist to their earlier counterpart. As always, the female figs stand out for me, but I'm also really digging the Gamer, the Wizard and the Piggy Guy. I'll get them all though, as always.- 1,109 replies

Heroica RPG - Quest#100: To The Tower of Babel
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
"If I may respond..." said Walbartan, checking with her comrades. "The Wolfgang was originally started when our leader Ulric Wolfkin arrived to Eubric riding on a talking direwolf. He immediately struck fear and admiration wherever he walked. In a matter of months he had gathered enough followers at the Hovels to take out most of the crimelords wreaking havoc in the city. He welcomed their hirelings to his secret base in the sewers, the Wolf's Den. But becoming a crimelord wasn't Ulric plan, it was just a first step on his path to become the King of Eubric. Why he wants that, only he knows, but we as his followers support him loyally. He is righteous to those that follow him and merciless towards his enemies - in short, just the leader our city needs. The Houses in Power have been leeching us common folk for centuries for their own gain, without giving much of anything back. Ulric promises order, justice and equality. The Wolfgang remain his core allies, but his supporters extend far beyond the Wolf's Den now. If you want to see Eubric become a stabile kingdom instead of a chaotic hellhole, you will want to join us." -

Yooou caaan chooose theee twooo whooo aaare tooo joooin yooou." "I am terribly sorry we had to lead you on like that" Walbartan said, sounding sincerely apologetic. "Gods know I am a poor liar. We are not called "Fearsome" because we are vicious or evil, mind you, but because all four of us were shunned away by our communities. I was the laughing stock of the Crinkah Tribe for being so gentle, but the Wolfgang welcomed me with open arms. You have treated me with nothing but respect either, so I would be honored to continue offering my druidic skills for your needs." "Yeah, I'm sorry for feeding you the story about a slain wife, too. Didn't you think it was a tad too coincidental, though? I was supposed to meet you on the Blood Brick Road and weasel myself into your party like Walbie did, but the mutant assault gave me a more thrilling option. In truth I've never even been with a woman, they've all been so disgusted by my mixed heritage. My sword is yours still, if you take me with you." "I SURELY ain't no drunkard, and I can really help ye wiv the BOMBcrafter. He's a DWARF, too, ye see, and even tho I'm only HALF-dwarven, he oughtta listen to ME. And my BERSERKER fightin' skills will no doubt come in HANDY should ye blokes run into TROUBLE on the road." "I kill things. Efficiently. Enough said?" Althior and his comrades had to now decide which two of the Fearsome Four would they take with them on their mission, and which two to send after Throlar? "I will leave you to it, then." Roland started barking orders at the servants. "Someone take these bodies away. They're scaring away the customers!" "I'll find the killers myself if nobody else in this damn city is competent enough for that!" Glimda grumbled as she left the palace. Throlar now had a choice between three stalls: Lucky Clams, Triple Magic and Decamon. -

QM Note: From this point on, there are two different quests going on in the same topic. Throlar continues with the original quest while the others are on the Wolfgang quest. One of the quests will succeed while the other one will fail, depending on who gets to the tower first. Nothing prevents from individual heroes to switch quests in the middle of the process, though. "Certainly. You can take any of the rooms in the False Wizard. I'll instruct the guards to let you in and watch the door for you. It's still early, though, so you wouldn't want to spend some time with one of our games?" "Spleeendid. Nooow, Miiister Thooornbaaack wiiill fiiill yooou iiin ooon theee deeetails." "HA! Didn't take me fer a strategic MASTERmind, DID ye? Anywho, the rumor GOES that the Tower is protected by heavy-duty MAGICS. So we need to take it DOWN with brute FORCE. It just so HAPPENS that there's a BOMBcrafter livin' in Port Taboo. Ye have to CONVINCE him to make a big BLASTER fer ye, then sneak it into the Tower and KABOOM!!!" "It might not be as simple as Thornback makes it sound, but we are confident that you can work out the kinks yourself." "Thaaat iiis whyyy Uuulric waaants yooou." Suddenly something rustled and crashed through the woods. The heroes drew their weapons, but it turned out to be just Orokai. "Sorry I'm late. What did I miss?" "They said yes, Orokai. We don't need to pretend anymore", said Walbartan, relieved. "Aaah, eeeveryooone iiis baaack togeeether agaaain. Heeeroes, leeet meee iiintroduuuce tooo theee Feeearsome Fooour." Orokai and Walbartan nodded along with Hodurr Thornback and Detraehd Loc. -

"It's NOT Ulric that wants that TOWER taken down, anyway, it's that CURSED witch! He'll do ANYTHING for her, APPARENTLY!" For the first time, Mr. Gaunt showd some emotion as he frowned menacinly at Hodurr. "Dooon't yooou taaalk abooout theee Miiistress liiike thaaat, dwaaarf." Roland and Glimda sighed as Throlar went on another of his rants. "Do you keep a library up your big behind? I didn't ask for a history lesson, I just want to catch my sister's killer." "Enough, Glimda. So you are headed to the Tower, then. You are an oblivious fool if you think the Keeper will just let you march in. I've only been in there once, myself, and that was by invitation. But if that truly is your mission - and not, say, ruining my lucrative enterprise here in Vega - I am willing to let you continue." "You can't be serious!" "Trust me, Glimda, the faster we get rid of this dwarf, the better. You will get your belongings back - in the morning. You will get out of the gate and never show your face in this city again, is that understood? Now, even though I believe your mission is doomed, you might try your chances with Countess Lyudmila of Fellcrest. She has a long history with the Keeper, and just might help you if you're nice to her - just beware she doesn't suck you dry. Hahaha!" "Roland, what about...?" "Bufkin will have captured the others, if he's any good. If he isn't, there's no need to shoot the messenger. We will keep the greenskin here for more questioning, since he apparently does not belong to Heroica, and..." A loud crash and screams emerged from downstairs. The Emperor and the brothel owner rushed out of the office, with Throlar in tow. When they arrived to the foyer, they found several monkey guards squashed dead and Orokai gone. "Aaarrggghhh!!!" screamed Glimda and punched the wall in a very un-feminine way. "Can't we just all go to bed already?" Roland sighed, shaking his head. -
Here's the ending of that quest. Monk Pretzel and Thalion met with Copper Fox at the bar, but they didn't make an actual confrontation about it. The Copper Fox did hint that he had spies among the Wolfgang, though.

Why don't you scroll through the Statistics topic and find out yourself? Sarge must be pretty high on that list, though.

Mr. Gaunt held up a letter, and a black bird swooped down from a branch above and delivered it to the heroes. "Unlike the one you found in the tavern, that one is authentic." Periwinkle read the letter by peeking over Eric's shoulder. "Who's Bluto Ziegfried?" The bearded man raised his hand. "..." "Quite a dilemma you have there", Walbartan muttered. She had remained silent throughout the encounter. -
I think that's just visits, though. I've visited the wiki hundreds of times already just by myself.

You're right - Ahriman was benign in comparison to the other archdemons. As the archdemon of envy, Ahriman just wanted to claim arugably the most beautiful nation in the world to himself and cherish it, but of course Naamah couldn't let him (the greedy bitch). When he was resummoned, Ahriman just hung above the city that was once his and made the world know his ire (which is why the Oracle got the visions).

Periwinkle looked bewildered for a while, but then closed her eyes and sighed deeply. When she opened her eyes again, she was smiling. "Loki... Eric... I've been on my profession for long enough to have heard hundreds of sob stories. I've been proposed to a dozen times, too, with each suitor promising me the moon and the stars from the sky. You're the first one who is being honest with me - even though it took a while - and I thank you for that. I know I ain't anyone special, and my life so far has been pretty pathetic. So even if I have to share your attention with your sword, I'll be happy for that." Periwinkle gave Eric a long and wet kiss. "So she lives, I assume. Now let us not linger any longer. We are awaited at the Wyrd Tree." The assassin took the party into the thick marshes of Ozmath. They each got their boots soaking wet before they finally arrived to a small pond with a great white tree with blood-red leaves growing in the middle of it. In the shadows of the tree they saw three men standing. "What took ye so LONG, Loc? I've been eaten ALIVE by these damn MOSQUITOS!" "Had to give you time to sober up, Thornback." "Ha! It was all an ACT and ye KNOW it!" "Eeenough, yooou twooo", said the dark figure standing under the Wyrd Tree in a drawling voice. "Weee haaave gueeests. Damnit, why didn't anybody correct that sooner? I had to edit the map now, too.
