  1. Oh definitely I wouldn't imagine they would use it either.
  2. I'm thinking it is going to be the Jamie Berard Town Hall which has been pictured earlier in this thread. 48x48 base I would assume as the 32x32 would be too small for 2700 bricks as well as the details. Which is going to suck for me since I am working on my own version of Jamies' Town Hall: At any rate, I'm sure I will get it anyways.
  3. Really great looking design, very original. Interior details are very clever and nicely appointed, very tasteful. You should be an interior decorator!
  4. Hate bringing it up again, but it looks like he has added (stole) some other builders designs. He blatantly copied all of this brickshelf users photos: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=stefauster If anyone here knows this guy, give him a heads up if he doesn't already know. He also is on that legostein website Here is the eBay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Corner-Cafe-Building-Instruction-10182-10185-10190-10197-10211-10218-Modular-/250958819668?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a6e4fb154#ht_574wt_1185 There are plenty of ligit sellers on eBay doing LEGO instructions, including members here, but this is pathetic. All of the others are still there for purchase, the wax museum, Town Hall, Spanish Grocer, etc. Not only do I feel bad for the designers, I feel bad for the people purchasing them. I'm sure most of them never end up building these anyways, as the cost and difficulty of getting all the pieces will probably turn them off once they realize this is not going to be a nicely packaged $150 LEGO modular. Nicely shot photos are a world away from actually buying all the pieces, I'm sure most of these folks aren't Bricklink users and/or have a nicely organized brick collection. They probably have a few official modulars and think this will be an easy way to add to their collection. Worst case is I see a lot of these purchases done by parents of younger LEGO enthusiasts who see this on eBay and get their parents to buy the instructions, only to find the cost and difficulty of actually doing it will more than likely end up in a disappointed child. Sorry for the Christmas rant, but I saw these instructions today and it just grinds my gears. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!

  7. Great work! Really lovely buildings. I really like the 16x32's even done on the 32x32 plate. I find doing these 16 wide MOC's too be a fun quick build compared to doing a full size 32x32 and you can really squeeze some cool details into the building small width. The 1st photo of your "old version" town looks like it could on the back of an official LEGO box. Great street scene. Please permit me to use some of your technique and building style for inspiration.
  8. Thanks again everyone. I took a little of everyones advice. I moved the 2nd floor windows over toward the center 2 bricks. I also raised the 2nd floor windows 2 plates higher.I left the 1st floor front windows where they were. I don't want them too close to the front porch. The house doesn't have to be exactly as the one in the movie for me, I still want to put my own touches into it. Here is the last photo before I finish it later this week. I'm waiting for one last Bricklink order. I will post some nice photos of the finished creation. BTW, if anyone needs the black 75 degree corner roof pieces, you can get them from LEGO service for .43 cents each. You have to order them on the phone. I have the element number if anyone needs it. The cheapest on BL is 1.40 or so. Not to take away from BL sellers but that is a BIG difference in price. I was going to originally go with grey since they are cheaper and more abundant but I really wanted black for the roof and I'm glad I spent the extra money. Most of you have seen my other haunted houses I did in the past and those had grey roofs. It just looks better in black I think.
  9. I love your interior decorations. The furniture looks great!
  10. Thanks Eldervampire, I considered taking those windows out but I really like them. I know the original Bates house doesn't have them, but I wanted to personalize it a little bit.
  11. Thanks for everyones suggestions. I moved the 2nd floor windows in 2 bricks and also raised them 2 plates. Looks much better. I'll post more pics when its all done.
  12. Thanks Sirens-ofTitan, I'm not sure I understand your suggestion, can you elaborate?
  13. Thats the house Phred, thanks. I may just leave them as is. It just seems there is too much gap to the inside of the windows.
  14. I'm working on a MOC of the Bates house from the Psycho movie. Looking for advice or suggestions about the second floor front windows. Do you guys/gals think I should move the windows over and have them centered under the arch windows on the roof? This would mean I'd probably have to move the 1st floor windows which would put them right up against the front porch. Let me know what you all think! Thanks!
  15. Great looking Town! I really dig your style of building, great details everywhere. I love all the cool camera shots and captions! Build on with your bad self!
  16. Yeah good point. Has anyone called LEGO to see if they could make the 75 degree dark red slopes available on PAB? You can get the black windows albeit with trans blue glass here: http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?q=3508%2D1 $20.00 for 10 with the glass.
  17. Nice review, thanks for taking the time to do it. I was under the impression LEGO purposely manufactures the reddish-brown bricks in slightly varying shades to give a building more of a "brickish" look. Can anyone clarify this?
  18. It probably wouldn't be that noticeable if you used black or dark bluish grey if you didn't want to spend 20 bucks on one piece. The other dark blue half arches are under the stairs and you can't even see those. Doesn't using the Service just add the pieces and quantities to the Pick-a-Brick store anyways so why would LEGO care how much you buy?
  19. Unfortunately there are many sellers on eBay who sell custom LEGO instructions via digital delivery. They will probably do nothing about it. I purchased the Town Hall instructions, mainly for the window details (which are wrong, I figured out how Jamie does it if anyone wants to know or see), but I was under the (false) impression the seller had some sort of agreement with Jamie.
  20. That was the 1st thing I thought of when I saw this beautiful creation. The same auction seller has your wax musuem and Jamie's Town Hall instructions listed in his store. Shameful for doing that without permission.
  21. Here is the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/City-Hall-10182-10185-10190-10197-10211-10218-/250841473252?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a675120e4 Some of the instructions vary slightly from the real model, mainly the window and columns technique, but otherwise worth the 10 bucks. Also you get a Bricklink parts list which you can import to your wanted list on Bricklink.
  22. I'd love to see instructions on the windows and columns. I know Jamie explains the column technique on the LEGO website, anyone have any details on the windows? I've seen the Brickshelf photos and I kind of get it but not completely. Ah I found the instructions for $9.99 on eBay. Does anyone know if that is actually Jamie himself selling those or someone else? EDIT by Hinckley: Here is the eBay user in question And here is a listing of his current auction items
  23. You've gotten a lot of great advice here. You may also look in your area and see if there is a LEGO club you can join. You can gets lots of on-hands experience and advice there. I personally learned a lot of cool techniques from the some of the official LEGO modulars. I know they are pricey, but you can learn a whole from building them. They also make great parts packs to make your own buildings. If you can get your hands on the Fire Brigade or Grand Emporium, build it then take it apart and make your own building. If your concerned about keeping pieces from sets together, grab some shoe boxes, label them and keep all the pieces for a specific set in them. Then if you want to rebuild it another time, you'll have all the pieces in one place. Keep all the original boxes and instructions too. I really like the 4 wide cars from the old sets and think they fit fine with the Modulars. Like Ralph says, MOC'ing your own cars takes a lot of small pieces! I have 2 pics to share. The first is my very 1st MOC, after purchasing the Green Grocer. Its the green building. The 2nd is a later MOC after many days and nights and months of building. Good luck, don't worry about what other people think, get started and post some pics!
  24. Just this one pic of the 1st floor:
  25. Here are a few pics of another I made.
