The columns were definitely the hardest part of the build. Lots of trial and error once I got to the top where the roof meets the pillars. Because of the 3 wide base at the bottom of the columns, nothing lined up at the top so many jumper plates had to be used. Probably the most satisfying build I've done.

Love it! Love the hot rod and the details! Gas pumps look great!

Hmmm maybe its more. I didn't really keep a piece count as I was building it. I placed over 30 orders on Brickilink and some of them were for other projects so I'm only guesstimating.
-
Thanks 'sonicstarlight'I really enjoyed the challenge of building it. I hate doing interiors, I wish I had the patience to really take the time on them.
-
Thank you 'L@go'I think about 3000 pieces. Most of the pieces were from Bricklink it cost about $300 in pieces.

I don't have an actual pic of that part of the build but they are done as shown on the LEGO website under Building Tips I think. Jamie shows how its done there. The only difference is the rear of the colums you have to use either 1x1 round bricks or 1x1 bricks in order to support the 8 wide arches which are positioned 2 columns up.

When I 1st saw pics of the TH Jamie did back in 2007, I have always wanted to build one. I started this back in December before we heard the latest modular was going to be a large Town Hall. I was a little worried LEGO would do this and was sort of relieved to see it ended up being totally different. As I posted earlier I did buy the instructions off the internet but after looking through them realized they were not designed the way Jamie actually built his so I scrapped them and mainly used pics from Brickshelf for reference. I'm not real good with interiors and decided this would be a County Courthouse. In hindsight it probably would have been better built on (4) 32x32 green plates with some greenery on either side of the building and full windows on the sides. I grabbed the 1891 logo from the new Town Hall. There are lots of obvious differences. I did the columns in white and I designed my own windows due to cost of the garage pieces used on the original. I also used the US flag design from the Fire Brigade, only slightly larger. Overall I would have to say this is the hardest, most complex building I have made. The columns were pretty difficult to figure with lots of jumper plates at the bottom and where they connect to the roof at the top. Well here are some pics. I'm hoping to post some more pics with other buildings for height comparison. For now I only have this one: Hope everyone enjoys, comments and criticism always welcome!

New elements added to Pick-A-Brick
Badsneaker replied to BigRedGoat's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I order the 2x2x4 75 degree corner slope from PAB (on the phone though) for .43 cents each. Those average $2.75 each on Bricklink. -
Looks great Love all the details and great work on the roof design.

So it looks like the top floor windows are not new 1x1 or 2x2 panels like many of us thought. Its just 4 2x2 windows behind each arch. Also agreeing the rear is very bland. Detailed windows and fire escapes would have made the elevator mechanism not nearly as noticeable. I still like the finished photos though. It still looks to be a great build.
-
Well aren't they using "cutaway" photo for the elevator?

Wow its so tiny looking compared to the box pictures!

The more I look at the pics the more I envision MOCing it onto a 48x48 base and lowering the height to make it look more like the 2007 TH. I think it could be done with the existing pieces. I can't wait to get this. I will build it then take it apart and do a MOC using only pieces from this set.

I thougt someone had said they were 1x2 panels back to back.

B-RV-12E Since I've been hanging around the board recently I wanted to post some pics of this Norman Bates themed MOC I made. (I sell it on eBay too so some members may have seen it there.) Its built on 4 32x32 plates.

Looking again I would have eliminated the very top section with the white 1x4 arches and 75 degree slopes and just capped the roof on top of the clock with black 75 degree slopes. Looks like some serious modding is going to happen on this one!

Here is the building of it: And here the Brickshelf folder. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=272790

I've been reading all the posts since the pics got posted earlier today and wanted to see what the general consensus is on the new Town Hall before rushing a post. I had been hoping it would be the one (or similar one) Jamie made back in 2007. In a way I'm glad its not since I started working on that exact (well almost) one a few months ago before I heard the rumors of a new Town Hall. I will still probably get this and maybe post some pics of this design as well as the old design for comparison. I think this would have looked better slightly shorter and wider with the columns going all the way up to the the top like Jamie's old design. It looks too squat and the columns too close together. The old design seems simpler yet more sophisticated and official. The height of the old one better fits with other modulars. I agree some separation between this and other buildings with some greenery would be the way to go. Throw a 16x32 base on either side with a bunch of tall homemade trees would work fine. There were probably a lot of considerations and reasons why they went taller, not wider on the building. I do however like the building overall. I like the fact LEGO is stepping it up a little and taking a chance on a larger, more expensive building than previously. I can't wait to see more detailed pics and the interior! Overall from what I can see it looks to be hit overall. Great job to all the designers at LEGO for providing these wonderful sets! I'm 42 and remember putting together my 952 Technic Tractor in '82 and never dreamed LEGO would be doing this so many years later.

Thanks for the clarifying that Trajic Banjo!

Or is it called the Erlinger brick? Anyways its the 1x1 brick with 4 side studs and one top stud. The one Jamie uses to make the columns on his Town Hall.
-
I'm really thinking its either going to be a 48x8 base, or a 16x32 (x3) or 16x32 (1) and 32x32 (1). The latter if LEGO is concerned the depth of the 48x48 will sit too deep on a city block, but then again a 48x32 building might not have enough depth to make it realistic looking. The Town Hall Jamie made back in 2007 is 48x48 and goes all the way to the back of the base. The rear side windows are positioned so the standard 32x32 modular would fit next to it without interfering with the side windows. If the price is going to be around $180, I would think the building would have to be wider than the standard to justify the higher price. And if there is going to be columns made with the Erling brick, 32x32 would be way too small to use 4 of those. I don't think (and hope) they will be using the 2x2 round grill brick for columns. That would go against the modular buidling code which usually uses more advanced building techniques. IMO.

I thought someone had said this one would be priced higher than the current modulars? Like $180 USD.

eBay user sells instructions for other builder's MOCs

Does anyone know what program he uses to make the building instructions? I'd like to try making some of my own. -

Yeah I guess you have a point there. Maybe Jamie might want to throw his 2 cents in on this. I have a strong feeling however the new Town Hall coming out will be the very one we are talking about here. -

I bought the Town Hall instructions months ago before I even knew what was going on. Be happy to send them to anyone who wants them, although they are not correct in a few areas. Windows and columns mostly. I ended up using pics on Jamies public Brickshelf for reference to make my own and added my own touches here and there.
